There has been huge fighter interest for RITC 142. Still several weeks away and the card is already packed with over 20 scheduled bouts.
In the Main Event, two rising mma stars will clash when Jeremy Larsen ( 5-1 ), from Arizona Combat Sports, faces Bellator veteran Victor Meza ( 10-2 ), from the MMA Lab. The winner of this bout earns a well deserved Welterweight Title shot against Alex Garcia ( 9-4 ).
In the Co-Main Event, heavily experienced fighters Carlos Ortega and Josh Rabadeaux will battle for the vacant RITC Bantamweight title.
In featured bouts, Charlie Brown ( 8-2 ), from the MMA Lab, goes against karate stylist Leonard Wilson ( 4-4-1 ), former RITC LHW Champion and Strikeforce veteran Matt Lucas ( 9-2 ) takes on rugged Mike Moritz ( 4-2 ), two physical specimens will clash when Christian Grosinsky faces Jonathan Smith and an exciting matchup is anticipated when Jason Richey ( 3-0 ) fights David Shaw ( 3-1 ).
The major local schools ( MMA Lab, Arizona Combat Sports, Lion’s Den, Team Pit MMA, RITC Training Center ) are well represented along with at least 10 “new comers” making their MMA debut.

CAGEFX 9: FINALLY; FULL RESULTS AND VIDEOS FROM MAY 28, 2010 CARD IN PLYMOUTH, MA

The wait was worth it for Cage Fighting Xtreme’s 9th event, the first one under the conditions of mixed martial arts regulation now in place in Massachusetts. Venue changes, politics, and capacity numbers all proved to be huge issues for the promotion to overcome in order to get this Plymouth event off the ground, but everything came together in the end for a spectacular show. When the dust settled, the final May 28, 2010 date faced another obstacle on fight night since the Boston Celtics would be engaged the same evening in a series-ending game 6 performance against the Orlando Magic. Still, a healthy crowd came out to cheer on the full card of fighters and to see the main event between undefeated heavyweight phenoms Christian Morecraft and Lee Beane that would make a huge star out of the “ultimate” winner.

Fight News Unlimited captured full videos for most of the fights, but we only captured partial videos of some of the other fights. The main event ended with a dramatic win for Christian Morecraft, who goes to 6-0 with the win over Beane (now 6-1). The call to the big show came quickly. Former Fight News Unlimited Writer Jack Bratcher of PROMMANOW.COM detailed Morecraft’s new 4-fight UFC contract and his new date with Destiny against Stefan Struve in a recent dispatch. See the full fight video below. Lee Beane fought a smart fight and simply lost position in the worst possible way, playing into Morecraft’s punching power advantage. These two fought like two freight trains hitting each other at full speed, and Beane can only learn from the tough first loss of his career as Morecraft will immediately be vaulted to superstar status if he can demolish the “Shyskraper” Stefan Struve at UFC 117.

Fernando Rivera (2-13) had his own best weapon used against him as his own early guillotine choke couldn’t close the show. His opponent Bill Mahoney’s (1-1) guillotine turned the tables and made Fernando tap at 2:02 in the first round:

Mark Giove didn’t let any judges get in the way of his amazing performance against Greg Mendes. His non-stop attack ended with a perfectly executed arm triangle choke at 3:42 of the first round:

Chris Cole needed less than a minute to get the quickest knockout of the night against Nicholas Santos.

The first fight of the night was also the first fight to go to a decision. Rob Costa took Johnny Kim the distance for the decision win. Fight News Unlimited only captured Round one of what turned out to be a great three round war.

Juan “El Nino” Ruiz scores devastating 4th round knockout in Panama City

Friday night at the Arena Roberto Duran in Panama City, Venezuelan Junior Welterweight prospect Juan “El Nino” Ruiz (6-0) scored a devastating 4th round knockout over the tall and awkward Jose “La Mosca” Castro who falls to 4-4. The bout scheduled for 6 rounds on the undercard of the Panamanian featherweight clash between Irving Berry and Roinet Caballero, ended in the 4th round after Ruiz caught Castro with a right hand, left hook combination to leave Castro spread out on the canvas for close to 5 minutes.
Ruiz came out strong and dominated the first round, scoring well with his strong jab to the head and body, and connecting repeatedly with his over hand rights and left hooks. The second round followed as the first ended with Ruiz pressing the action while Castro retreated. Castro had moments while fighting in the clinch but was unable to sustain any momentum. The third round Castro started to open up somewhat, but his shots where either slipped or blocked by Ruiz whose work rate had dropped from the first two rounds.
Getting told to step up the action by his corner Ruiz came out for the 4th round well ahead on all scorecards, and started to land his left hook repeatedly. Then at the 2 minute mark of the 4th round Ruiz landed a straight right hand and then a left hook to finish the bout as Castro slumped to the canvas.
Damon de Berry of Optimum Sports Agency who manages Ruiz said “it was a good win for Juan as he’s been out of the ring for awhile. We will look to have him fighting again soon”.

MFC snares top young prospect: Product of ZUMA camp considered first-class phenom

If there ever was a top-ranked, first-overall pick to be selected in a mixed martial arts amateur draft, the Maximum Fighting Championship feels it has made the right choice by snaring a can’t-miss prospect.
The MFC has signed Alexi Argyriou to a provisional contract, and the 16-year-old is expected to make his professional debut when he turns 18. A product of the renowned ZUMA stable in Victoria, B.C., Argyriou is considered a young phenom with an incredibly bright future in the sport.
The National Hockey League has its next budding stars in Tyler Seguin and Taylor Hall. The National Football League boasts future standouts in Sam Bradford and Gerald McCoy. In Argyriou, the Maximum Fighting Championship has mined out the next big thing, the five-diamond prospect poised to make an impact in mixed martial arts.
“He is the No. 1 draft pick,” stated MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich. “We have the best young fighter anywhere now in our organization. I can’t be any more succinct – he is the future.
“And not only is he a superb athlete, he is confident, he has great charisma, and best of all he is someone who brings that intangible quality of being able to hype and sell a fight. That is such a huge commodity and it jumps right out of him.”
Because of his underage status, Argyriou has the opportunity to further grow under the tutelage of ZUMA’s top instructor, Adam Zugec, who firmly believes in his young protégé, calling him the most talented young fighter he has ever worked with.
“He is just that good,” said Zugec. “I pick and choose who I work with closely. It’s about what I see within an individual. With Alexi, it goes beyond how well he punches. There’s just that desire and that hard work ethic. There are those special qualities that make him different.
“He’s grown up in the MMA scene and he just gets it. He understands the whole role like having the entertainment value but also being able to back it up. He’s a sweet, good-looking kid that you wouldn’t think can do some of that showboating type of stuff but he does. But he’s so tough. He trains and spars every day with some real bad-ass guys and he has absolutely no fear.”
Argyriou has already proven to have quite a burning desire to thrive under extraordinary circumstances. Shortly after first starting out at the ZUMA gym as a 12-year-old, Argyriou was on a run in a wooded area when a stick pierced his neck.
“He almost died,” recalled Zugec. “He had to stop for a while but he came back at 14 and he’s where he’s at now at 16. He is a fighter.”
Zugec will keep Argyriou under wraps a while longer, agreeing with the analogy that it would be similar to a top prospect in hockey or baseball being sent to the minors for some grooming before their ultimate debut. Argyriou is also likely due for another growth spurt, though he already stands six-foot and has a brother who is six-foot-six. Zugec figured his Argyriou should wind up around six-foot-two and fight professionally as a rangy yet powerful lightweight.
Once Argyriou does burst onto the big stage, Zugec is of the opinion that the youngster is going to thrive under the spotlight.
“No question about it – this is not a kid who’s going to get in there and get nervous. I absolutely see big things for him,” said Zugec. “I see him already with some similarities to (Jose) Aldo. His ground game is good, he’s a strong wrestler, he’s got good hips and he’s hard to take down. No one really knows how good is ground game is yet because no one can get him down. And he can punch and kick so well.”

Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham Claims IBF Crown For The Second Time
Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham is once again the IBF Cruiserweight Champion of the World, having regained the coveted title, at the Jahnsportforum, Neubrandenburg in Germany in Germany tonight, after the ringside doctor deeming Troy Ross unfit to continue before the start of the fifth round.
From the first bell Cunningham dominated the centre of the ring using his wickedly fast jabs to keep the shorter Ross at bay. Ross, a seriously tough southpaw, seemed willing to take a few punches in order to get in closer to let off some wicked bombs.
Rounds two and three produced more of the same, although Ross was getting a little more success. The problem for Ross though was that his getting in more also meant he was taking more shots, causing noticeable swelling.
Round four produced both a serious problem for Ross, who received a thumb in the eye which tore open the lower eyelid, and a scare for the Cunningham team as they see their man reel backwards and down to the canvas.
Thoughts of a repeat scenario to the Adamek fight were dispelled within minutes as prior to the start of the fifth the referee, Bill Clancy, sent Cunningham to a neutral corner and called for the ringside doctor to check out Ross’ damaged eye. The doctor had no choice but to stop the fight as it was clear that the Canadian’s eye injury was serious.
A jubilant Cunningham said, “Man, It’s great to be Champ again. Troy’s a great competitor, he came to win for sure.
Cunningham then hinted at a possible rematch with fellow Sauerland Event stable mate WBC Champion, Marco ‘Kapt’n’ Huck as he went on to say, “I am really comfortable with my weight and want to defend my title again soon.
I feel that I am a major force in the Cruiserweight division and want to unify the division.”
“Champ Again In ‘10” has been Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham’s catch phrase for the past six months, he has now achieved this. Congratulations Champ.

Following on from his stunning knockout victory over Light Welterweight prospect Darren Hamilton, Redhill, Surrey’s Daryl Setterfield is back in action on the 19th June at the Steve Goodwin promoted “Summer Fight Night Explosion” at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London.
Setterfield, who will be facing veteran Matt Scriven on the 19th June, is looking to build on his against the odds win over the highly rated Hamilton back in March this year. Coming into that fight Setterfield was undoubtedly the underdog as Hamilton had been rightly touted as a future star of the division, with Championship potential. However, no one seemed to take into account is that Setterfield, anything but an easy opponent at the best of times, always comes to win.
Hamilton, in true contender style, was intent on imposing himself with heavy handed attacks. Setterfield, wasn’t content to just roll over and take it, responded with vicious salvos of his own. The climax to the exciting battle was nothing short of spectacular. Setterfield let rip with the most vicious overhand right to the head, which literally stopped the previously unbeaten fighter in his tracks, followed up with a lightning fast combination that sent Hamilton crashing to the canvas so hard the paramedics were immediately called for.
Following a training session, under the watchful eyes of world class coaches Johnny Eames and Derek Grainger at the Ultrachem TKO Gym in Canning Town, East London, a relaxed Setterfield spoke about the victory over Hamilton, “Darren had gone five unbeaten. He’s a very good fighter. It was hard going as he has an awkward defence. We battled hard, I landed some good shots, as did he.
His defence was tight but as the fight went on I managed to get some good shots to his body. I think that’s why he bought his defence lower in the fourth. So when he had his left hand down lower I put a good right over the top, which shook him, and finished him off with a three punch combination. He went down hard and was out cold.
He was out, some people said the ref stepped in too late, but it was so quick he couldn’t have got in and stopped it. They had to give him oxygen but I’m pleased to say he’s OK.
I wouldn’t say it was the best fight I’ve had, it was quite scrappy at times, but it was the best finish. It was tidy right hand over the top.”
Setterfield then went on to talk about his upcoming June 19th fight, “It should be a good fight, Matt Sciven’s got lots of experience and he always comes to fight. Which are the type of fighters I like to get in with.
I’m looking to build my career now. I’ve had eight fights now and I’m still learning. It seems that I get more than my fair share of unbeaten prospects, other than my first two fights and Cassius Conner who was debuting, they’ve all been unbeaten.
I learned a lot about my power against Darren and I’ve been working on this and intend to bring it all to the fight on the 19th. I’m not saying I’m going to knock Matt out but if the chance comes I will take it.”
Daryl Setterfield versus Matt Scriven will be on the Steve Goodwin promoted “Summer Fight Night Explosion” at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London.
The stacked TWELVE fight card for “Summer Fight Night Explosion” includes the return of, International Masters Champion, Yassine El Maachi against Dee Mitchell.
El Maachi, who won the International Masters Light Middleweight Title, back in April. with a superb points victory over France’s Bertrand Aloa.
Also on the card, following some pretty nifty negotiations, will be Mark ‘The Flash’ Alexander, against Sid Razak, and Former English Champion Ryan Barrett, against a yet to be named opponent.
Alexander, coming off a spectacular, four knockdown in three rounds, stoppage victory over the highly rated Michael ‘Simply’ Devine, and Barrett, who had a comfortable victory over Sid Razak back in April, will be honing their ring skills, as well as hoping to win a psychological edge over the other, in preparation for their pivotal title fight on September 11th.
Former Olympic Bronze Medallist Boris Georgiev (Bobby George) will be looking to build on his excellent pro-debut win. As will the highly exciting Michael Norgrove when he faces the experienced Ryan Clark.
That’s not all, by a long shot, rising stars Tony Owen, Joe St John and Bradley Evans will all be looking to increase their unbeaten records. Whilst Welterweights John Brennan (opponent TBA) and Adam Battle, who will face Danny Dontchev, will be looking to impress on their pro-debuts.
Last but not least, at Light Heavyweight, Marco Stevenson will battled it out with Daryl Setterfield’s Ultrachem TKO Gym mate Matt Jack.
