NABC Champ Calvin “The Finisher” Kattar Joins IntenZe Fight Team @ CZ33 Bike Week, NH

The IntenZe Fight Team is proud to announce new team member Calvin Kattar (9-2) will be fighting Chris Conner (5-2) at the Combat Zone 33 fight in Laconia at bike week on June 19th, 2010.
Kattar, who is from Methuen, Mass., last fought March 26th at XCFL 2, lived up to his nickname when he “finished” previously undefeated Jeff Anderson (8-1) in the third round via a TKO, with punches while on his opponent’s back.
The IntenZe Fight Team will have 4 fighters at this event.

Owen: I will still be unbeaten after Prizefighter

Unbeaten Welshman vows to maintain winning streak at York Hall
Ricky Owen enters Saturday night’s Prizefighter Super Bantamweight event at York Hall, Bethnal Green without a defeat to his name – and the Welshman says that record will stay intact.
The 25 year-old is unbeaten in 11 fights with four wins by knockout, but that record is spread over six years. Owen explained that while injury has played a part, it is tragedy in his personal life that has both stalled his career but also acts as the motivation behind his desire to win Prizefighter.
“My dad passed away last month and my mum a couple of years ago so I really want to do them proud,” said Owen. “Winning Prizefighter means everything, but I also feel that I have nothing to lose. The unbeaten record means a lot and I will keep it going. This is a great opportunity to prove myself after only having two fights in two years and I’m going to take it.”
The Swansea fighter’s eleventh win came at York Hall with a points victory over Aberdeen’s James Ancliff in April 2009, and he returns to the venue in Prizefighter to face Yorkshireman Gavin Reid in the fourth quarter-final of Barry Hearn’s latest eight-man, one night tournament live on Sky Sports – where the winner will pick up a cheque for £32,000.
“Prizefighter needs boxers like me – the format suits me to the ground as I like a bit of a scrap,” said Owen. “I want to get title shots and they are the next steps if I get past this. Win this and I really believe I’m on my way to big things.”
Victory for Owen would set up an all-Welsh second semi-final as Newport’s Robbie Turley faces Welsh Commonwealth gold medallist Jamie Arthur in quarter-final three, and Owen says that he and his fellow countrymen are desperate to follow in the footsteps of Newbridge’s Gavin Rees who won Prizefighter Light Welterweight in December.
“I get great support in Wales who are always behind me and all our fighters so another Welsh Prizefighter winner will be great for the sport back home,” said Owen. “I’d love to have a big title fight in Wales where my supporters can come and if I win Prizefighter, that dream could come true.”

Heiland replaces Mackay, Mady takes on Waardenburg For June 18, 2010 Ringside MMA card

(For immediate release) May 22nd, 2010 – Montreal – Ringside MMA is announcing 2 changes to our 7th card, “No Escape”, which is scheduled for June 18th, 2010 at 7:00pm. Jason Mackay has been injured, and will therefore no longer be able to face his opponent, Derek Gauthier. Also, Pierre-Etienne Marcoux from Drummondville has pulled out of his match against Dimitri Waardenburg of Granby, citing personal reasons.
Local favourite Derek Gauthier (6-1-0) is coming off a rebound win over Jason Rorison at Ringside: “Rage”, after suffering the first loss of his career, by way of TKO, at the hands of “TNT” Tyler Jackson. He will now be facing NAAFS veteran Joe Heiland, who steps in for the injured Jason Mackay. Heiland has a very strong record of (6-1-0), with his only defeat in 7 matches coming in his last fight against Daniel Strauss in December of 2009. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Heiland will be looking at getting back in the win column in front of Gauthier’s home crowd on June 18th!
The other change involves Dimitri Waardenburg out of Speedy Gym in Granby, who is currently on a 2 fight win streak which started with Pierre-Etienne “Speedy” Marcoux. Marcoux was looking for redemption in a grudge match against Waardenburg, after losing their first match by the judge’s decision, however Pierre-Etienne has since announced that he had to pull out due to personal reasons. Ringside MMA quickly found a suitable replacement in the flamboyant Chucky “The Energiser Bunny” Mady (3-1-0). Mady, who represents the Mady School of Martial Arts in Windsor, Ontario, has a win in his last fight against Demetrius Dean in April of this year. Mady will no doubt be looking to put his Isshin-Ryu Karate skills to the test against Waardenburg’s Muay Thai. This bout has the potential of being explosive and action packed, as these two pugilists will no doubt be engaged in a striking war!

These fighters did not disappoint, as fans were treated to a thriller they can see now on GoFightLive.tv. The USBA Super Bantamweight Title was on the line for Teon Kennedy and in a fight that saw 12 rounds of gusto, from both Kennedy and his challenger, Jose Angel Beranza.
As the fight started, Kennedy seemed in control and making a sure campaign to retain the title. But Beranza wasn’t about to go quietly and in the 6th round, Kennedy’s right eye began to swell and then close. Beranza took full advantage and brought himself back into this title fight. Despite eye problems, Kennedy stood and traded with Beranza much to the delight of a near sellout crowd. In the final 2 rounds, fans saw an all out war by both men in an effort to seize the victory.

In a stellar co-feature fight, Patrick Majewski and Loren Myers put on a bloody battle for fans. Unfortunately this fight was stopped in the 6th round (scheduled for 8) due to the cut. However, before the stoppage came, fans were treated to an action packed fight filled with heart and courage.
In other bouts, Ronald Cruz remained undefeated at 9-0 as he beat 25 fight veteran Juan Ramon Cruz. Local Favorite, Josh Mercado stopped Joel Nieves in 3 rounds. Ryan Carson won a decision over Marcos Garcia. And finally, Rafael Jastrzebski won a 4 round decision over Troy Maxwell in their Super Middleweight bout.

The highlight of the event at the Fitzgerald Casino in Tunica, Mississippi was the 5th round stoppage of the bout featuring undefeated former amateur standout, Shawn ‘Showtime’ Porter vs Bobby Kliewer.
With a 1st round knockdown early, this fight proved to be a showstopper. Referee Randy Phillips finally stopped the bout in the 5th round when Porter dropped Kliewer for the fourth time. Porter moves to 15-0 with 12 KOs for his career.
In a battle of undefeated Middleweights, Dominic Wade scored a 4 round unanimous decision over Michael Faulk. Another big bout came from the card featuring a 2nd round stoppage victory for debuting Randy Coffman.

Gary Hyde wins ruling to continue managing 2-time Olympic champion Guillermo Rigondeaux Manager; wants star back with Freddie Roach

MIAMI (May 25, 2010) – Irish boxing manager Gary Hyde, who last December won a legal judgment in Miami to manage two-time Olympic champion Guillermo “The Jackal” Rigondeaux, recently received legal confirmation to continue managing the Cuban boxing star, effectively knocking out Hyde’s opposition for control of Rigondeaux’ pro boxing career. Defendants had sought reconsideration of the ruling and that was denied.
Rigondeaux (5-0, 4 KOs), fighting as a super bantamweight out of Miami, defecting from Cuba, where he was a 7-time national champion. The 29-year-old southpaw also won multiple World Championships titles, as well as a gold medal at the 2003 Pan-Am Games, during his incredible 243-4 amateur career.
In order to develop “Rigo” into a world champion, arrangements were made for 4-time Trainer of the Year, Freddie Roach, to become Rigondeaux’ head trainer, as well as for Guillermo to workout at Roach’s famed Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles. “The two have unfortunately parted ways,” Hyde said. “Misinformation and false accusations against Roach were made by people who have been controlling Rigondeaux. The truth is ‘Rigo’ left Freddie because Roach said he wasn’t in proper condition to fight April 10 (at Sunrise, FL) because he’d been training only two weeks. ‘Rigo’ shared Roach’s apartment with Jose Benevidez, Sr. and Jr. and he received excellent treatment from everybody at the Wild Card Gym.
“They said Freddie didn’t have the authority to prevent ‘Rigo” from fighting (Apr. 10), so, as his manager, I stopped him from taking that fight. Then they instructed ‘Rigo” to leave Freddie and return to Miami. Roach and Rigondeaux work amazingly well together and understand each other very well. Freddie said that ‘Rigo’ is one of the best fighters he has ever worked with and predicts he’ll be world champion.”
Hyde remains in Rigondeaux’ corner despite interference from others, building on a relationship they started years ago when Gary helped ‘Rigo” to defect and relocate.
Hyde has agreed in principle for a multi-million dollar promotional deal which would make ‘Rigo’ the highest earning super bantamweight of all-time. “It’s in Guillermo’s best interest to return to Los Angeles and resume training with Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Gym,” Hyde concluded. “Freddie knows what it’ll take to make ‘Rigo’ a world conqueror like so many of his other fighters over the years. Rigondeaux will be 100-percent ready for every fight when Freddie Roach is working his corner again.”
