On June 4, Dan “The Beast” Severn, 3 time UFC Champion and UFC Hall of Famer will make a special guest appearance at the Central Pennsylvania WARRIOR CHALLENGE 6 in Lancaster at the Lancaster County Convention Center.
The 2-day Warrior Challenge event kicks off Friday June 4 with a 15-bout Mixed Martial Arts event with a fight card featuring local professional and amateur fighters battling it out and testing their skills in the 20- foot hexagon cage.
The main event features Denis Hernandez, Florida’s, IKA Kickboxing Champion against Justin Scott of Dallastown, Pennsylvania who will attempt to defend his undefeated 9-0 record.
The action continues Saturday, June 5 starting with Seminar by Dan Severn,then moving to our Submission Grappling and Karate Tournament with divisions for men, women and kids.
Purchase of an General Admission ticket to the Friday night event allows a competitor to attend the seminar and compete for free on Saturday.

“Kid Chocolate” plays Wild Card Unbeaten middleweight Peter Quillin to train with Freddie Roach

NEW YORK (Apr. 28, 2010) – Undefeated middleweight prospect Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (21-0, 15 KOs) is following the advice from the famous quote attributed to Horace Greeley, “Go West, young man, go West.”
Quillin, who was rated as high as No. 5 by the IBF before a series of unfortunate circumstances, due to three consecutive injuries, cost him 18-months of his career. He will soon be moving from New York to Los Angeles, where he will now be handled by 4-time Trainer of the Year, Freddie Roach, at his famed Wild Card Gym.
“I still have a lot of things to learn and I will get better with Freddie Roach,” Quillin commented. “I’m excited about moving to California. Lawler and Lashley were overwhelmingly victorious in their last starts, both of which took place at the STRIKEFORCE event at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla., on Jan. 30, 2010.
Lawler weathered an early onslaught from Melvin “No Mercy” Manhoef before rallying dramatically to crumble Manhoef with a devastating right hand at 3:33 of the opening round and Lashley stopped Wes Sims with a barrage of punches in the first round (2:06).
Recognized as one of the hardest punchers in the sport, the 28-year-old Lawler, of Granite City, Ill., was discovered and schooled by MMA legend Pat Miletich. Lawler’s fight with Aaron Riley
at UFC 37 on May 10, 2002 later became the first MMA bout in history to air on network TV (FOX Sports).
At 6-foot-3, 265 pounds, Lashley, 33, is a monstrous specimen of a man who has stopped all but one of his five opponents in the first round. A resident of Denver, Colo., he soared to stardom while competing on WWE’s Raw and Smackdown! series between 2005 and 2007.
Noons is a confident, prolific striker who has won four in a row and is the last fighter to defeat current STRIKEFORCE welterweight champion Nick Diaz. In a thrilling, bloody fight on Nov. 10, 2007, Noons won by first-round TKO when a cageside doctor stopped matters after the first round due to excessive cuts around Diaz’ eyes.
The 5-foot-11, 27-year-old Noons’ other victories during his winning streak came over Edson Berto (KO 3, knee) on July 27, 2007, Yves Edwards (TKO 1, punches and elbows) on June 14, 2008 and, in his first outing following a near-two-year respite to continue a boxing career, a decision over Andre Armado at DREAM 13 last March 22.

Edouard in Panama, Friday, April 30

Press Release — Daniel “The Haitian Sensation” Edouard (22-2-2 KOs 13) makes his return to action Friday, April 30 at the illustrious Hotel Melia Panama Canal, Colon City, Panama. Edouard, whose last fight was nearly a year ago, has been a constant presence in the boxing gym and feels he is in supreme condition.
“My conditioning is great. I had an excellent camp and I’m ready to go.” A buzz started when Edouard was slated to face Sergio Mora on the undercard of the Roy Jones Junior/Bernard Hopkins rematch, but ultimately, he was not able to commit to that fight due to family crisis. He continued, “The business of boxing sometimes causes you to wait. Then there are times life makes you wait. I’m just happy the wait is over.”
Edouard, ranked #11 WBA, #20 WBC and #14 IBF/USBA, as his ring name implies, is of Haitian decent. Common to the entire Haitian community, of which Edouard is no exception, are the still lingering signs of a massive earthquake that hit the island country in early January.
“We have suffered great loss as a people and on individual levels as well, but we are not discouraged. We are working hard to rebuild that which was lost and improve those things we can. It isn’t an easy task, but we are faithful that as we continue moving forward we will get it done.”
Immediately following the earthquake, Edouard, who is actively involved in humanitarian work through Haitian Sensation Foundation, relocated his boxing camp to his native homeland. “Moving the camp to Haiti allowed me to keep assisting in relief efforts while staying focused on my next fight.”
Edouard faces current Panamanian light middleweight champion, Jose Arosemena (12-5-2 KOs 10), who is described as a knock out artist. Arosemena hopes to advance his career at the expense of The Haitian Sensation.

John Bray Boxing Foundation Helps Establish Local Youth Boxing Club

The John Bray Boxing Foundation in conjunction with the City of Orange Cove held the Grand Opening of the Orange Cove Boxing Club along with a free youth boxing clinic in an effort to help the community in preventing and combating gang violence while promoting discipline and academic success among school-age students. The special guest was world class boxing trainer and California Boxing Hall of Famer John Bray who made the long trip from Los Angeles.
In November of 2009, Jerry Gonzalez, the Chief Executive Officer of the John Bray Boxing Foundation, made a presentation to the Orange Cove City Council asking for assistance in opening a boxing club for the youth in the city as they were experiencing major gang problems. The Orange Cove City Council were all pleased and offered to assist.
A facility as well as funds for equipment was made available by the City of Orange Cove and the John Bray Boxing Foundation assisted with the purchase of equipment through Everlast Worldwide Inc. as well as the organization of the boxing club. The intent of the Orange Cove Boxing Club is to assist at-risk students from becoming involved in gang activity and offer them a variety of educational and physical options from tutoring to the sport of boxing.
Both organizations arranged this free youth boxing clinic because of the issues concerning kids that are of crucial importance to the community.
Children and young adults face many temptations every day, whether it is drugs, gangs or peer pressure. The Orange Cove Boxing Club wants to provide these promising young men and women with an alternative where they can feel at home and escape the pressures they have to deal with on a daily basis.
The clinic kicked off with special guests speaking to the participants about life skills and attitude development. These guests consisted of staff from the John Bray Boxing Foundation, the Orange Cove City Council which included Mayor Victor P. Lopez, Mayor Pro-Tempore Glenda Hill, Council Member Esther Gonzalez, Council Member Gilbert Garcia, Council Member Bertha Del Bosque, Police Chief Frank Steenport and John Bray.
After the special guests spoke, the boxing clinic commenced and participants were shown different boxing techniques on heavy bags, speed bags, double end bags and foot work. The clinic wrapped up with a free raffle and kids were given various gifts from our sponsors.
After catching up with John Bray after the grand opening, he had the following to say about the event: “I was very pleased with the turnout of the event. The City of Orange Cove has a strong community and that showed as the City Council as well as the Police Chief and all the parents showing up for the event. They really care about their community and it showed. If people in cities were more like the city of Orange Cove, the world would be a better place.”

HERBIE: WINNING PRIZEFIGHTER WILL LEAD TO WORLD TITLE GLORY

HERBIE Hide believes winning Friday’s Prizefighter will be the perfect preparation for a shot at the WBC cruiserweight world title.
Hide, 38, is one of eight men competing in Barry Hearn’s latest Prizefighter event – Cruiserweights II – at the York Hall in Bethnal Green, east London.
A former WBO heavyweight champion, Hide is clear favourite to win but has the most to lose, although he insists it was an easy decision to enter.
“Why am I in Prizefighter? “Well, it’s because I’m a warrior – a gladiator,” said Hide, who has won 48 of 52 fights, 43 inside the distance.
“I’m number two in the rankings for the WBC title and my promoters in Germany have put me back.
“But now Giacobbe Fragomeni is fighting Krzysztof Wlodarczyk for the vacant WBC title and the winner should fight me, but that could be in another three or four months.
“Going in Prizefighter is a warm-up fight for me before I fight for the world title.
“Everything you do in life is a risk and in boxing there have been fighters who are number one and take a warm-up fight and get beaten. Champions take non-title fights and lose them but I believe I’m the best cruiserweight in the world.
“At this stage of my career I can’t be concerned about losing. I believe I’m the best so I will just go out there and do what I have to do.”
The rest of the contenders include former Commonwealth champion Darren Corbett and Mark Krence, who has fought for the British heavyweight belt.
As always, the Prizefighter line-up features a number of inexperienced prospects and Batley’s Zahid Kahut, winner of four of his five professional fights, believes Hide should not have entered.
“Everyone is talking about Herbie Hide being the huge favourite and, with a record like his, how can he not be?” said Kahut.
“But I think he’s making a big mistake entering this tournament as he already had a title shot around the corner.
“With his suspect chin and the unknown quantities that are in this tournament, I think he’s really putting it all on the line.
“If he wins then good luck to him as he would’ve taken a risk and it would’ve paid off. But I really believe he’s not going to win and someone will knock him out.”

Mayweather has the speed and technical ability to make world-class opponents look mediocre. Mosley has a combination of quickness, power, and physicality that can take Mayweather in those uncharted areas where he is on the receiving end of fistic combinations instead of dishing them out. STYLE
Mayweather:
A pure boxer with great speed who does everything well with an arsenal that includes a snapping jab, accurate right hand, and left hook that can be doubled and tripled with tremendous effect. Uses feint moves to freeze opponents and open punching lanes. Tucks his chin well behind his shoulder to roll with punches. Even on the ropes, he is a difficult target to land a solid punch. He doesn’t have great punching power. Most of his stoppage victories come from outpunching and outclassing his opponents but rarely scoring clean knockouts.
Mosley:
A well-schooled boxer with exceptional speed and power in both hands, Mosley boxes well from the outside, employing a strategy called “power boxing”. Is very effective with combinations and employs a solid body attack when in close. Is adept at controlling the pace, using angles and feints, forcing opponents into mistakes. Will roll his shoulders and use upper body movement to slip punches and freeze opponents. For most of his career, Mosley was trained by his father, Jack. They have since parted and veteran Philadelphia trainer, Nazim Richardson, most known for his work with Bernard Hopkins, is now manning the reigns in Mosley’s corner.
STRENGTHS
Mayweather:
* Experience – Boxing is in Mayweather’s blood since his childhood. Completed an extensive amateur career by winning the bronze medal in the ’96 Olympic Games. He has been competing successfully on a championship level for the past 12 years, facing and defeating all styles.
* Speed – Speed Kills. Mayweather has incredible hand and foot speed, which allows him to move inside, unload his offense, and dart out of range before his opponent can set himself.
* Ring Generalship – Mayweather knows every inch of the ring and how to control a fight. He knows when to attack, when to box, when to turn up the heat, and when to coast. Mayweather owns the ring when he is in there.
Mosley:
* Experience – Mosley has been a championship caliber boxer for a decade now, tangling with top names such as Oscar De la Hoya, Winky Wright, Fernando Vargas, Vernon Forrest, among others. He’s fought guys who are bigger, younger, and harder punchers before. There isn’t a style that he hasn’t faced.
* Versatility – Mosley can switch gears and make adjustments in the ring, being the aggressor and fighting inside or boxing and counterpunching from the outside.
* Durability – Mosley is a solid durable fighter with a good chin. He has been down once in his career and hurt only on a handful of occasions, even though he has faced several heavy-handed punchers.
WEAKNESSES
Mayweather:
* Brittle Hands – Mayweather has been plagued throughout his career with hand injuries. The soreness in his hands, especially the right hand, reduces Mayweather’s exceptional offense, often forcing him to rely on his foot speed to dance around and pitter-pat opponents.
* Distractions – There has been harsh feedback towards Mayweather since the failed negotiations to make a fight with Manny Pacquiao which includes constant controvery about blood-testing and finger-pointing. This is in conjunction with constant potential family disfunction including his off-and-on relationship with his father and legal issues for his trainer and uncle.
* Punching Power – Most of Mayweather’s stoppage wins have come from an accumulation of punches. The usual result is the referee or opposing corner stopping the bout to prevent further punishment. It is rare to see Mayweather finish a bout with one punch dating back to his days as a 130 lb boxer.
Mosley:
* Sizzle – At times, Mosley’s offense will contain more sizzle than steak. As he has aged, he has adopted a style with more moving and feinting, and while his moves are slick and eye-catching; there is more style than substance which doesn’t score points.
* Age – Mosley is 38 years old and is several years past his prime. Over the last few years, while still competing at a high level, it is evident that Mosley has lost a bit of his trademark hand and foot speed.
* Inactivity – Along with the fact that Mosley is older is the compelling issue that he has not fought in 16 months. It might keep him fresher or could make him rusty against one of the fastest and sharpest fighters in the game today.
PREVIOUS BOUT
Mayweather:
(9/19/09) – Mayweather used his superior size and speed to outbox and outpoint the smaller but game Juan Manuel Marquez, winning a comprehensive unanimous decision. Mayweather floored Marquez with a left hook in the 2nd round but never came close to stopping his outclassed adversary.
Mosley:
(1/24/09) – Mosley turned in a masterful performance, decimating the favored Antonio Margarito and battering him into submission in nine brutal round. While the talk was about Margarito’s illegally wrapped hands, Mosley made it a moot point by boxing well early and picking up the pace late, scoring an emphatic KO over the historically iron-chinned Margarito.
3 BEST PERFORMANCES
Mayweather:
* Diego Corrales (1/20/01) – Experts were torn on who to pick in this one with many leaning towards Corrales to win by KO. Mayweather never let him in the bout, knocking him down five times before the bout was halted in the 10th round.
* Arturo Gatti (6/25/05) – Although Mayweather was a solid betting favorite, many expected Gatti to make things rough for Mayweather. It never happened as Mayweather floored Gatti in the 1st round and dealt out a severe beating before Gatti’s corner stopped the bout after six one-sided rounds.
* Ricky Hatton (12/08/07) – Hatton was undefeated coming into the bout and set a gameplan of constant pressure to wear out Mayweather. After a few uncomfortable rounds, Mayweather was able to find his range and take over, flooring Hatton twice in the 10th round and forcing a stoppage.
Mosley:
* Oscar De la Hoya (6-17-00) – Mosley had moved up from lightweight only nine months prior, skipping over the junior welterweight division, and challenged on of the sports top boxers. In a thrilling encounter, Mosley rallied down the stretch, out-punching the bigger champion in winning an exciting split decision.
* Fernando Vargas (7-15-06) – The first bout between these two warriors saw Mosley win when Vargas was unable to continue due to damage around his eyes. It was competitive enough to warrant a rematch. Mosley rendered the rematch a mismatch, keeping Vargas off balance, before flattening him with a homerun left hook in the 6th round, setting up the stoppage moments later
* Antonio Margarito (1/24/09) – Margarito was coming off a brutal demolishing of Miguel Cotto who had previously scored a close win over Mosley. Conventional wisdom favored Margarito but Mosley’s speed and ability negated Margarito’s offense and Mosley’s power left him battered and beaten in nine one-sided rounds.
KEYS TO VICTORY
Mayweather:
* Use angles and movement to keep Mosley from setting his feet.
* Keep the action in the center of the ring and stay off the ropes.
* Control the tempo and don’t get goaded into a slugfest.
Mosley:
* Jab to the body and force Mayweather back on his heels.
* Use feints to force Mayweather to punch first and open up opportunities to counter punch.
* Use a sustained body attack to slow Mayweather down.

* Will Mayweather be overconfident coming into this bout?
* Can Mayweather’s legs stand up to Mosley’s pressure and body punches?

PENECALE PREDICTION
Mayweather will open the bout by boxing from a distance, using his footwork and angles to keep the bout in the center of the ring and Mosley off balance. Mosley will take the role of aggressor and move forward, trying to cut Mayweather off and trap him against the ropes.
Mayweather’s quickness and manuevering will allow him to keep the pace measured during the first two rounds while Mosley keeps advancing, flicking out probing jabs, trying to measure the distance between them. Mosley will try to gain the momentum in the 3rd round by employing more power boxing and stepping in harder with his jab and imposing his will on Mayweather with some single right hands to the body.
The tempo will start to pick up in the mid rounds. Mosley will be continuing to advance, using a double jab to Mayweather’s chest and torso but is unable to find a lot of success landing his trademark left hook and uppercut to the head. Mayweather will throw quick counterpunches that will score points, but not causing much damage. It will be evident that Mayweather is uncomfortable when Mosley presses forward and dictates the pace.
The closely contested bout will see various momentum shifts in the bouts second half. It will be Mayweather’s sharp rights and quick hooks, while he rolls and counters against Mosley’s deliberate punches that carry more force behind them.
The scoring will be tight as the bout reaches its final few rounds and with everything up for grabs in the championship rounds, Mayweather will rely on his advantages in speed and youth to outwork Mosley in close and thwart his offensive attack. Mosley will show desperation in the final round and will even connect with a few solid hooks to Mayweather’s head, but it will be just too little too late as the final bell rings.
As the decision is announced, it will go in Mayweather’s favor, in a unanimous nod, by close but accurate scores of 116-113, 115-113, and 116-112.

On Sugar Shane Mosley:
“When I beat him, they are going to say he is old.
“All these fighters get the belts that I gave up. When you are bigger than the sport, belts don’t mean anything. He needs a belt…A belt means something to him.”
On breaking records:
“All I can do is hope for the best. There is no limit to what we can do. The sky is not even the limit. If they did say a fight is going to do 700,000 homes, it will do something like 1.4 million. We can never predict a certain number.
“The ultimate goal is to always break records.”
On USADA Drug Testing:
“There are all these athletes out there cheating. I am clean and pure.
“I know I am a clean athlete. I didn’t start taking vitamins until I was 30, so I know I am a clean athlete.
“You see so many different fighters going into comas and dying. All fighters are taking is a urine test. From what I hear, enhancement drugs are making these fighters punch harder and all it is doing is hurting the sport.
“I want to be able to separate the average from the good and from the great. I want to separate the ordinary from the extraordinary.”
On the success of 24/7:
“I truly believe that we have so many different characters. My father, when he is in the boxing gym, is ‘Floyd Joy.’ My uncle is ‘The Black Mamba.’ We have children that are characters. And of course, myself, I am leading the pack. So many different personalities and so many people inside the gym and outside the gym. We have fun, but we know when to turn it on and when to turn it off.
“This is something that we talked about for a long time. Going in depth and behind the scenes, and showing things that no one had ever shown about a fighter. We talked about this back in the 90s.
“I think that in my household, when I am with my family, we are always positive and thankful for what we have. As far as the world right now, people love to watch controversy. Any show that is really controversial. I think I am versatile. I am very controversial, but when I get home, I am Floyd Mayweather and to my children, I am just dad.”
On his team:
“Our whole circle has changed totally. The only two people that are still here are me and you (to Leonard Ellerbe). Mainly the guys that are with me now are the guys I grew up with (in Grand Rapids, MI).
“I have Rafael Garcia. He does a tremendous job. You get what you pay for in life. You want your hands to be wrapped by the best so you have no hand problems, you get Rafael Garcia. If you want to make tremendous money, you hire the best to make you the best deals. Simple as that.”

On the fight:
“This is what makes Sugar Shane Mosley; being able to fight, being able to box, and being ready mentally.
“I can box too. I have boxed guys I was supposed to punch out. This is what makes me Sugar Shane. Being able to box, being able to slip and slide, being able to do everything.
“Every time I fight, I’m looking to knock the guy out.
“I don’t think I am going to spend the whole fight trying to outbox him. I am going to do everything Sugar Shane is supposed to do.
“Every fight has its own significance. This fight would be a great win. Beating Floyd would be a big feather in my cap.”
On Floyd Mayweather:
“He brings a lot of mouth and we’ll see what this mouth is about.
“He had to fight somebody if he wanted to be considered the best.
“It’s not really what Floyd says or believes; it’s about what I believe.
“I see where he has slipped and I see some things where his body is beginning to go. But he doesn’t see that.
“He has great defense. He’s a great fighter. That’s why we are looking at each other May 1. I am happy he accepted this challenge.”
On his love of boxing:
“I’m always doing something. I’m never really that far away from the gym.
“Even when I retire, I’ll probably never be far from the gym. I will be sparring. I can’t get away from the gym.
“It depends on how you train. That’s the most important part of the picture.
On the scuffle in the ring following Mayweather vs. Marquez:
“You guys seem to forget, I am part of Golden Boy Promotions. That’s why I was in the ring.
“The reason why I said something was because I was called over and I was welcomed into the conversation.”
On trash-talking:
“Floyd says a lot of things that are sometimes out of line. I guess right now we are enemies.
“A lot of times when people say something that’s true it hurts. But then when they say something that isn’t true, it just rolls off your shoulder.
“When they say those different things and I know they’re not the truth, I can’t change their mind. I know the truth.”
On past losses:
“The fight game is really a mental game. People don’t realize that. It’s not really that physical. I think mentally, at that point in my career I wasn’t on top of my game mentally.”
