Marianne ‘Golden Girl’ Marston Launches Boxing Classes For Women Across London

Female professional boxer Marianne ‘Golden Girl’ Marston announced this week the launch of her new website – www.womensboxingclasses.com – as well as a series of boxing, and boxing based fitness, classes at The Boxing Clinic in Islington, North London and The Tokei Gym in Southwark, South London.

In 2009 Marianne, the protégé of Heavyweight Champion of the World Smokin’ Joe Frazier, returned home to London following two years being based in Philadelphia, PA, USA, where she is part of Cruiserweight Champion of the World Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham’s professional boxing team, and noticed that the only type of Boxing fitness programmes being offered to women in London were of the aerobic ‘Boxercise’ type.

The Boxing Fitness classes Marianne created, are far removed from the aerobic ‘Boxercise’ classes offered by most fitness centres and personal trainers. These classes are the real deal and include many of the conditioning exercises and boxing drills she personally uses in her own, and athlete clients, competition preparations.
Taking a little time out from her personal training regime Marianne said. “The recent announcement that Women’s Boxing will be included in the London 2012 Olympics has led to a substantial increase in the number of females actively participating in the sport. It is estimated that there are now in excess of 700 amateur, in addition to the 16 currently licensed professional, female boxers.
It has also led to an increased interest, by women, in boxing as a fitness exercise. I’m not just talking about the highly popular ‘Boxercise’ programmes, I mean actual boxing.

The classes I’ve created are 100% pure boxing skills and professional athlete level conditioning drills. Each class includes many elements of the regimes I have been put through when being coached in Philadelphia; Firstly, by Joe and Marvis Frazier and more recently with Nazeem Richardson, Shar’ron Baker and Steve Cunningham.

FEATHERWEIGHT PROSPECT SCORES EXPLOSIVE KNOCKOUT TO REMAIN UNDEFEATED

PHILADELPHIA (April 11, 2010)—This past Friday night at The Arena in South Philadelphia, Featherweight Coy Evans remained undefeated with an explosive third round stoppage over Morris Chule.
Evans of Philadelphia is now 8-0-1 with two wins coming by knockout. Both of those stoppages have come in the last three fights.
Evans dropped Chule twice in round two, first from a counter right that clearly hurt Chule. Towards the end of the frame, a series of hard right hands dropped Chule for a second time.
Evans showed lightning quick hand speed and a huge right knocked Chule out cold midway through round three and the fight was stopped immediately at the 1:51 mark of round three.
“It was a good fight”, said Evans.
“My corner just wanted me to stay calm and they said the knockout will calm and that’s what I did. I am happy and I have a great team with my promoter Greg Robinson, trainer Bozy Ennis and managers Moz Gonzalez and Eddie Woods plus Unleashed Power drink with River Edge Beverage Company. I know when I listen to my corner that I will be victorious”

“Coy is starting to come into his own. He is 3-0 with two knockouts since we signed him. This was another steppingstone towards a world title. I expect that Coy will be fighting for a regional title in the next twelve months.”

Big boys to battle on undercard

A rare heavyweight fight has been added to the undercard of MFC 25: Vindication taking place on Friday, May 7 at the Northlands Expo Centre in Edmonton, Alberta.
Popular brawler Ryan “The Vanilla Gorilla” Fortin (4-2), who fights out of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, takes on Chase Gormley (6-2) of Los Angeles, California, in what should be a clash of heavy hitters looking for a big knockout.
Fortin will be looking to rebound from a tough loss when he dropped a second-round submission via rear-naked choke to Nick Penner on the undercard of MFC 23. Fortin had dominated the stand-up portion of the fight, badly cutting Penner and causing a massive amount of damage. The biggest win of Fortin’s career came at Heat XC 4 back in November 2009 when he earned a quick TKO victory over Jared Kilkenny.
Gormley is back under the tutelage of MFC lightweight champion Antonio McKee and looking to return to the form he showed in his previous MFC outing. Back in May 2008, Gormley stepped up to face Eric “Big E” Pele and used a solid clinch game to pull out a clear-cut unanimous decision.

Hutcherson expects striking battle with Heath at Vindication

‘King’ Solomon mining for victory

In his last MFC outing, Solomon Hutcherson had to contend with an opponent focused on a ground game and solely searching for a submission.
With his next bout right around the corner at MFC 25: Vindication, “King” Solomon has an opponent that’s more to his liking. Hutcherson expects his middleweight clash with David Heath to be much more suited to his natural game plan.
“This fight is right up my alley,” said Hutcherson after a recent training session under the tutelage of legendary coach Duke Roufus.
“The fans know we both like to bang. Heath’s a banger too so I think the fans are really going to get their money’s worth.”
Hutcherson (11-6) will throw down with Heath (14-6) on the main televised card of MFC 25: Vindication which will be held Friday, May 7 at the Northlands Expo Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, and also air live on HDNet Fights.
Hutcherson debuted in the MFC in February 2009 when he took a spirited decision from Dave Mewborn, icing the victory with a dominating third round that showed the Racine, Wisconsin, native’s fiery nature. Shortly after the fight, the 37-year-old underwent surgery to repair a torn bicep tendon and the injury kept him out of action for 10 months until his return at MFC 23 and a clash with Jason MacDonald.
MacDonald captured a very close – and somewhat controversial – decision but it was Hutcherson who endeared himself to the MFC fans, many of whom were there to see MacDonald, one of the organization’s original stars. Hutcherson took the look but won the hearts of the people.
“I was pretty surprised by the reaction of the fans because that was MacDonald’s home-town crowd,” offered Hutcherson. “I thought it was going to be hard to win them over. But those are a lot of die-hard fans and I think they knew that coming off surgery for me to take on a guy the calibre of MacDonald that was pretty crazy.
“And he did a lot of mouthing before the fight on how he was going to submit me, choke me out in less than one round. He couldn’t submit me. He had me down but he couldn’t finish me. I was very diligent at practising my escapes and they were on time and on point. I think those devout fans realized that and appreciate that.”
If one day he gets offered the chance, better believe that Hutcherson wants to do battle with MacDonald again and he’s banking on a different outcome.
“He paid the price in that fight. After the fight, look at his face and look at mine – that should tell you the tale,” Hutcherson declared. “If I see him again, I’ll put a ferocious beatdown on him. I’m not taking anything away from Jason. He won the fight, but a lot of people were swaying on the fence. The only way we’ll really see is if we do it again.”
But before that potential fight can emerge, Hutcherson has the real target of Heath in front of him.
“Someone’s going to sleep,” Hutcherson proudly predicted. “I’m back to 100% so I’m going to be able to do what I do best – some spectacular aerial slams and really put a beatdown on somebody.”

Holyfield stops Botha in 8th

LAS VEGAS (April 10, 2010) – Hall of Fame-bound Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield added the World Boxing Federation heavyweight title belt to his overcrowded trophy case, stopping defending champion Frans “The White Buffalo” Botha in the 8th round last night in the main event on “The Legend Returns” card, promoted by Crown Boxing, at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Botha (47-5-3, 28 KOs) came out throwing bombs for the first five rounds, buzzing Holyfield (43-10-2, 27 KOs) a few times. Holyfield came on strong at the end of the fifth, taking full control of the fight in the sixth and seventh by throwing letting his hands go and throwing effective combinations.
In the eighth round, Holyfield dropped Botha with a right hand and when a damaged Botha got to his feet, Evander overwhelmed his South African opponent until referee Russell Mora called an end to the fight.
“He is a very good defensive fighter,” Holyfield said after the fight. “He’s a smart fighter, too. His right hand had a lot of power and he’s also a very quick big man. I gave myself a 7. I can get better. I’d been off a long time and I know I can get better. I want to come back very soon.”
“Evander is a great fighter,” Botha remarked. “He capitalized on my mistakes. I thought I had him going early. I have to go home and sit down with my team. Who knows (about his future plans)? We’ll see how he goes forward.”:
In the co-feature, hometown favorite Henry Namauu, 2006 National Collegiate champion at UNLV, stopped a game Rayford Johnson in the seventh round of their back-and-forth battle of tough cruiserweights. Referee Tony Weeks halted the action when Namauu unleashed a series of unanswered, power-packed punches.
Former IBF cruiserweight champion “King” Arthur Williams recorded his 47th career victory, winning a unanimous 6-round decision against previously unbeaten Valente Tinajero (8-1).

Evander Holyfield: “People talk and you act like it doesn’t bother you when they call you old and senile. I’ve been telling people since 1992 when I lost to Riddick Bowe that I was going to be undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. I won 2 but not the third. It’s never been about money. I was brought up poor and never had anything. I was taught to have goals and to never quit.
“Botha gave me an opportunity. People talk about my legacy. It’s about who you’ve fought. They can’t deny me; I fight the best. I always want to fight somebody to get a little credit if I beat ‘em. Heavyweight Prospect Vladimir Tereshkin Wins in Impressive Fashion

SCORES UNANIMOUS DECISION
Las Vegas, Nevada (April 10, 2010) – Fighting in front of a American audience at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino for the first time in his career, heavyweight prospect Vladimir Tereshkin, was impressive as he scored a unanimous six round decision over Joseph Rabotte. Tereshkin (13-0-1, 7 KO’s) completely dominated Rabotte (7-12-0, 3 KO’s) all six rounds, winning on all three judges’ scorecards 60-54.
Tereshkin was happy with his win in his debut and looks forward to only getting better in his quest for a world heavyweight title. “This was my first fight in the United States and I’m making the transition from European boxing to western style fighting. It is very different and will take time, but I feel like I’m headed in the right direction,” said Tereshkin.
Trainer John Bray was very impressed with his new pupil’s first outing and thought he did very well. “Well, you know, the kid did good. He won every second of every round and showed me some good things. We have some things to work on,” stated Bray.
Bray also noted that, “he had Rabotte hurt three times, but didn’t pull the trigger. We’ve only been working a month and we will have more time and continued sparring with Lance Whitaker, Malik Scott and Lionel Butler before his next outing and all that will change; I’m sure of that. I’ll tell what though; this kid is special.”
Catching up with his Co-Manager Alex Mezherovsky of Union Boxing Management he was also happy with his fighters outing. “It was his first time fighting in the United States and with it being on a Top Rank card, he was nervous. He did a great job and he is only 22 years old. He has a bright future ahead of him. I want to thank Bob Arum and Top rank Promotions for the opportunity of showcasing Vladimir on such a great card.”
