“I think this is a fantastic way to see the fight and I am glad to give fans the chance to do it again on May 1 with my fight against Sugar Shane Mosley,” said Mayweather. “Going to the movies is one of my favorite things to do and I actually have a movie theater in my house, too. Fathom and Golden Boy Promotions first teamed up for the highly successful cinema presentation of the Floyd “Money” Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez fight on the big screen in September 2009 – the first fight to be shown in movie theaters in over 20 years. Last month, the two companies announced an agreement to continue presenting live world championship boxing on the big screen in high definition throughout 2010 beginning with “The Rivals: Hopkins vs. Jones II” featuring Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins vs. Roy “The Terminator” Jones, Jr. which took place on April 3.
“Watching the fight on the big screen in movie theaters across the country is a fantastic way to experience a mega-fight like Mayweather vs. Mosley Who R U Picking?” said Richard Schaefer, CEO Golden Boy Promotions. “The partnership we have with NCM Fathom is a part of Golden Boy Promotions’ continued efforts to provide sports fans with an unparalleled level of entertainment.”

“Mayweather Promotions is extremely grateful to have another opportunity to bring a big boxing event like Mayweather vs. Mosley to the big screen and theaters throughout the country,” said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO Mayweather Promotions. “Everyone in the theaters that night can expect to see a great night of boxing between two of the best in the sport today.”
Mayweather (40-0, 25 KOs) is thought of by many as the best boxer of this era. Born into a boxing family in Grand Rapids, Mich., Mayweather started boxing at the age of seven. He would go on to compile an 84-6 amateur record while earning three Michigan Golden Gloves titles, three National Golden Gloves titles, PAL and National Championships, and an Olympic Bronze medal in the 1996 Games. Turning pro in the super featherweight division in1996, an undefeated Mayweather faced Genaro Hernandez in 1998, earning the WBC world championship. Mayweather successfully defended his super featherweight title eight times from 1998 to 2001, then won the WBC lightweight championship from Jose Luis Castillo in April 2002. He began facing opponents in the junior welterweight division in 2004 and took the WBC 140-pound championship from Arturo Gatti 2005. Mayweather added the WBC welterweight crown to his resume in a win over Carlos Baldomir in 2006. Following a brief semi-retirement in 2008, he returned to the sport in a dominant 2009 win against the number one Mexican fighter in the world, Juan Manuel Marquez. The bout was purchased in over one million homes-only the fifth non-heavyweight fight to do so – and was broadcast to more than 240 movie theaters nationwide.
Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs) is a welterweight mega-star and five-time World Champion, currently holding the WBA Welterweight World Championship. Mosley has fought his way to world championships at lightweight, welterweight and junior middleweight; earning himself a reputation as one of the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing and becoming a household name. Prior to turning professional, Mosley was a three-time National Amateur champion and an alternative 1992 Olympic team member; compiling an amateur record of over 250 wins. In 1998, Mosley was named “Fighter of the Year” by the Boxing Writers Association of America after defending his IBF lightweight championship title five times, winning all by knockout. He spent much of the early 2000s dominating the welterweight division, as well as taking on opponents in the junior middleweight class; earning both the WBC and WBA junior middleweight titles. In 2008 he scored a stirring last second knockout of former two-division world champion Ricardo Mayorga, to set up his 2009 fight against WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito, in which earned Mosley his sixth world title, the WBA World Welterweight Championship in a dominating knockout win.
“Boxing on the big screen is like sitting ringside for all the excitement. The fight fan experience is second to none,” said Dan Diamond, vice president of Fathom. “With two champions like Mayweather and Mosley squaring off, this bout will be an electrifying welterweight mega-fight from Las Vegas. If you can’t be ringside, you can be a part of the action live with our HD theater experience, offering the biggest and most exciting way to catch a fight.”

WELTERWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION SUGAR SHANE MOSLEY: LOS ANGELES MEDIA DAY QUOTES
Posted on | April 12, 2010 | 1 Comment
“The theme of this fight is ‘Who R U Picking?’ Well people should be picking me because I have proven that I can knock people out in any round. I’m experienced and I have the speed, power and agility to win this fight.” Welterweight World Champion Sugar Shane Mosley said on April 12, 2010 at his Los Angeles Media Day.
Sugar Shane Mosley, Current WBA Welterweight World Champion
“I think a lot of people who have fought Floyd have let his talking get to them and they go into the fight angry. They are fighting with their emotions when they are in the ring. I’m not going to do that. I know how I want to fight Floyd and I know what I want to happen, so I am going to do what I have to do to win.
“Training is going great. We have a good strategy going and I have been sparring some tough guys and trying a lot of different things against them, so I am going to be ready when I get into the ring May 1.
“A victory over Floyd Mayweather would definitely rank in my top victories. It would let people know that once again they overlooked Sugar Shane Mosley and that was a mistake.
“Floyd is a great fighter and there are a lot of different things he can bring to the ring. But there are a lot of things I bring as well. On May 1 we are going to find out who the real chess player is.
“I think there is too big a deal being made about the fact that Floyd is undefeated. Before my first loss I was 38-0 with 35 KOs. That’s a hell of a record, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t be beat and it doesn’t mean Floyd can’t either.
“It might be harder to fight someone who hasn’t lost before because they really don’t want to lose, but when you are fighting anyone on this level it’s going to be tough. No one wants to lose, so I don’t think that is going to be an advantage for Mayweather.
“There is a clause in the contract that says Floyd gets a rematch if I beat him, but I would give him the rematch anyway, because it would be great to beat him twice.
“There are different personalities in boxing. Some guys like to talk a lot, but I’m not going to run my mouth just to do it. If I’m going to say something I’m going mean it. If it comes out of my mouth you know it’s going to be heartfelt and it’s going to be the truth.
“Naazim has definitely reenergized my career. He is one of the hardest working trainers in the business. You can find him in the middle of the night watching film so that he knows the other fighter inside out. It’s all about strategy with Naazim and I’m confident with him as my trainer going into this fight.
“Floyd Mayweather is good, but I’m going to be fast. He’s never had to deal with speed and skill like Sugar Shane Mosley’s before.
“I’m a full-time fighter; it’s a lifestyle for me. I love to do what I do.
“The drug testing has been thorough. They have come four times already and taken blood twice and urine twice. They just show up randomly to take it, but they come during normal hours. It’s not like they are showing up in the middle of the night, and they haven’t disrupted my training. In the end I think the testing is a good thing to change our sport.
“I’m going to do everything on May 1. I’m going to attack. I’m going to box a little. I’m going to do it all.
“The theme of this fight is ‘Who R U Picking?’ Well people should be picking me because I have proven that I can knock people out in any round. I’m experienced and I have the speed, power and agility to win this fight.”
Trainer Naazim Richardson
“Training camp has been good. I am not worried about the fight for Shane. I think Shane can knock out anything that weighs 147 pounds.
“I think Shane’s speed is faster than Mayweather’s. I’m more worried about Mayweather’s timing, he has great timing. He has the benefit of learning from his father Floyd Sr. and his Uncle Roger on boxing intelligence in the ring, but Shane can handle it and has the ring experience to match him.
“I know Shane will win the fight. I am looking for the best Shane Mosley to come in the ring on May 1 and when that happens, we win the fight. I will keep him focused on the task at hand and not let him get caught up in the Mayweather hysteria. We are good to go.”

Evans Destroys Chule in Main Event
By Tony Penecale (Ringside)
In a performance bound to open some eyes, Coy “Pretty Boy” Evans impressively dismantled game Morris Chule in the main event of Greg Robinson’s Power Productions boxing card held at The Arena in South Philadelphia.
Evans, 124, Philadelphia, not known as a knockout artist, opened the bout by using his speed advantage to land at will against the mechanical Chule, 125, Pahokee FL by way of Kenya. Evans found a home for his counter right hand, landing it flush both to the body and head.
Things only got worse for Chule in the 2nd round. A sizzling Pretty Boy combination had Chule stunned and when he tried to retaliate, Evans landed a hard counter right hand over the top, dropping Chule to the canvas. Chule arose but quickly found himself back on the canvas courtesy of another Evans right hand, and the bell was a welcome respite to the punishment he was taking.
Chule has the look of a desperate man in the 3rd round, and he came out firing everything he had but Evans deftly blocked each shot before dropping his hands and rolling his shoulders, inviting Chule to try and hit him. Evans landed another combination that had Chule reeling before landing a thunderbolt of a right hand that left Chule laid out on the canvas where he remained for several minutes.
Evans improves his record to 8-0-1 (2) while Chule falls to 11-11-1 (8).
In a battle of southpaws, pro-debuting Keenan Smith overcame some early jitters to pound out a unanimous decision over Luis Esqulin.
Smith, 130, Philadelphia, was tentative in the opening round, trying to find the range on his straight left hand, while Esquilin, 127, Philadelphia, was content to move around the ring and try to keep Smith off balance.
The bout started to pick up the pace in the 2nd round, as Esqulin became more willing to stand and engage while Smith started to relax and started to let his punches fly more freely. After completing his first two professional rounds, Smith started to pick up the pace in the 3rd round and landed several hard combinations including a laser-like right hand that sent the tape holding Esquilin long braids flying, giving him a bad-hair event similar to the one Paulie Malinaggi suffered a few years ago.
With his hair taped back in place for the 4th and final round, Esquilin tried to rally a comeback but Smith was just too smooth and effective, landing counterpunches and controlling the action throughout the remainder of the round.
The unanimous decision went to Smith by the score of 40-36 by all three judges. Smith is successful in his debut and is now 1-0 while Esquilin drops to 1-4-1.
Maurice Amaro was winless coming in to his bout against pro-debuting Joe McKenzie but you couldn’t tell by the way he effectively boxed and spoiled the McKenzie’s first foray into the professional ranks.
Amaro, 171, Philadelphia, opened by using a stiff double jab to force McKenzie, 170, Philadelphia, back on his heels and control the pace of the bout. McKenzie tried to counter with wild right hands with no success.
Amaro, wearing zebra trunks, should have worn a pattern more like a tiger as he was the predator and not the prey on this night. His success continued in the 2nd round as he aggressively pursued McKenzie, who was flowing blood from his nose, compliments of Amaro’s hard jabs.
Amaro controlled the action throughout the 3rd and 4th rounds, as the pace started to slow and the weary fighters started clinching whenever they got inside, resembling the previous weekend’s fight between Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. The only moment of drama in the final round was when a right hand by Amaro had the weary McKenzie stumbling into the ropes but McKenzie was able to hold on to the final bell.
Amaro was rewarded by the judges winning by the score of 40-36 by all three judges and is now 1-2, while McKenzie loses his pro debut and is now 0-1.
In the evening’s opening bout, Puro Pairol upset the local favorite Kareem Cooley winning a decision over four rounds.
Pairol, 130, Cuba, drew Cooley, 133, Philadelphia, into a slugfest at the opening bell, and used wild right hands and left hooks from odd angles to continually beat the favored fighter to the punch.
Cooley had trouble getting his offense untracked early and Pairol made him pay for keeping his hands low but landing unorthodox punches and outworking him on the inside. Cooley had some success near the end of the 2nd round, finally finding range for several uppercuts.
Pairol continued to come forward and slug throughout the 3 rd round but as the round progressed, the tide ebbed slightly towards Cooley who landed several good jabs and right hands but continued to fight the wrong fight, which benefited his awkward opponent.
Sensing he was behind on the scorecards, Cooley tried to ramp up the pressure in the final round, and landing hard, crisp shots together and the Cuban fighter was happy to engage the hometown fighter in an old-fashioned Philadelphia slugfest.
The decision was close but all three judges benefited Pairol by identical scores of 39-37, Pairol gets his first win and is now 1-0-1 while Cooley suffers his first loss and is now 1-1 (1).
Several Philadelphia boxing personalities were in attendance including NABA welterweight champion Mike Jones, cruiserweight Garret Wilson, up-and-coming heavyweight Joey Dawejko, female sensation Olivia Fonseca, the always loquacious Simon “One Punch” Carr who was there promoting his Punchline clothing apparel, and former IBF junior middleweight champion Robert “Bam Bam” Hines.
