The first bout will begin at 7:30PM.

The ticket price is $25 per person. All registered amateurs with their 2010 books in hand pay $15 per person.

GABRIEL CAMPILLO & BEIBUT SHUMENOV CLASH IN REMATCH FOR LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE ON JANUARY 29

LOS ANGELES, January 26 – On Friday, January 29, KZ Event Productions and Golden Boy Promotions are pleased to present an evening of world championship boxing when they present “Campillo vs. Shumenov II” at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In the 12-round main event, Spain’s Gabriel Campillo will defend his WBA Light Heavyweight World Title against Las Vegas resident Beibut Shumenov, who will defend his IBA Light Heavyweight World Title, in a rematch of their heated 2009 title fight. In that August bout, Campillo upset the odds in an exciting 12 rounder that saw both men hit the deck before the Spaniard took the razor-thin and highly controversial majority decision.
“Campillo vs. Shumenov II” is presented by KZ Event Productions and Golden Boy Promotions, with Campillo vs. Shumenov presented in association with Sampson Boxing LLC. The bout will be televised live on Fox Sports Net (FSN) and its regional sports network affiliates beginning at 11 pm ET / 8 pm PT (check local listings). Doors will open at 6 pm and the first bell rings at 7 pm.
Tickets for this action-packed night of boxing are priced at $150, $125, $100, $50 and $40 (general admission standing room tickets) and may be purchased at the Hard Rock Hotel Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations, online at www.Ticketmaster.com or by phone at 800-745-3000.
In the event’s opening televised fight, former Cuban amateur star Erislandy Lara faces veteran junior middleweight Grady Brewer, winner of The Contender II reality television show, in a 10-round bout.
Also in action will be undefeated Uzbekistani standouts Gayrat Ahmedov and Ravshan Hudaynazarov, super featherweight stars Eloy Perez and David Rodela and hot California prospects Carlos Molina and Ronny Rios.
A professional since 2002, 31-year-old Gabriel Campillo (19-2, 5 KO’s) really hit his stride in 2009. Formerly the holder of the Spanish light heavyweight title, Campillo kicked off last year by decisioning Lolenga Mock for the European Union belt. Just three months later on June 20, he defeated Hugo Garay in his home country of Argentina for the WBA Light Heavyweight World Title before finishing off 2009 with his win over the previously unbeaten Shumenov. On January 29, he looks for a repeat against Shumenov in his United States debut.
One of boxing’s most amazing stories, Beibut Shumenov (8-1, 6 KO’s) represented his country of Kazakhstan in the 2004 Olympics, but didn’t make his professional debut until 2007. Shumenov quickly made up for lost time, defeating veterans Donnell Wiggins and Epifanio Mendoza, as well as former World Champions Montell Griffin and Byron Mitchell, all within his first eight professional fights, an impressive feat by any standards. Although he lost to Campillo in his first world title bout last year, the 26-year-old Shumenov plans to use the defeat as a learning experience and aims to reverse that result on January 29.
Former amateur star Erislandy Lara (9-0, 5 KO’s) has made a seamless transition to the professional ranks since leaving Cuba, and in nine fights has dazzled boxing insiders and fans with his speed, power and poise. Fresh off of a near-shutout win over veteran Luciano Perez in his first 10-round fight last December, Lara will look to continue his meteoric rise against the vastly more experienced and always dangerous Grady Brewer.
The story of Lawton, Oklahoma’s Grady Brewer (26-11, 15 KO’s) is the classic tale of a fighter who came up the hard way, but in 2006, Brewer finally got his chance to shine as a competitor on the hit reality series “The Contender.” By the end of that year he scored three victories and defeated former World Champion Steve Forbes to take home the series crown. Since then, Brewer has put together four more wins, three by knockout and is eager to pin the first loss on Lara’s record on January 29.
Making their United States debuts on January 29 will be light heavyweight Gayrat Ahmedov (12-0-1, 8 KO’s) and his fellow countryman from Uzbekistan, junior middleweight Ravshan Hudaynazarov (9-0, 7 KO’s). Both fighters are known for their ring savvy and exciting styles, and with Ahmedov riding a five-fight knockout streak and Hudaynazarov winning his last three bouts by knockout, fans can expect fireworks from both of them. Ahmedov will face Harley Kilfian (8-3, 7 KO’s) of Kenton, Ohio in a six round bout while Hudaynazarov battles Rochester, Minnesota’s Scott Ball (10-6, 8 KO’s) in a six round fight.
Eloy Perez (15-0-2, 4 KO’s), from Salinas, Calif., will start 2010 with a 10-round junior featherweight clash against the pride of Oxnard, Calif., “Dangerous” David Rodela (14-1-2, 6 KO’s) in defense of his USNBC Super Featherweight title in a bout that was originally slatted for the January 30 undercard of Shane Mosley vs. Andre Berto. These California standouts combined for a record of 6-0 in 2009; but on January 29, somebody’s winning streak will end.
Undefeated junior welterweight Carlos Molina (9-0, 5 KO’s) of Norwalk, California will return to the ring after a very successful 2009 during which he stepped up his level of competition and defeated five of his last six opponents by knockout. Molina will be making his Las Vegas debut against St. Joseph, Missouri native Tyler Ziolowski (12-10, 6 KO’s) in a six round bout.
19-year-old featherweight phenom Ronny Rios (8-0, 4 KO’s) kicks off his 2010 campaign on January 29, and if his 2009 season was any indication, fight fans should be in for something special from the Santa Ana, Calif. native, who went 6-0 with 3 knockouts last year. Rios will see action in a six round featherweight bout against Willshaun Boxley (5-3, 3 KO’s) of Coons Rapids, Minnesota.
Opening up the show will be junior welterweight prospect Jessie Vargas (7-0, 3 KO’s) of Las Vegas, Nevada in a four round bout against an opponent to be determined.

Undefeated MMA heavyweight Bobby Lashley faces Wes Sims Saturday at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla., live on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT delayed on the Wes Coast).
“Ruthless” Robbie Lawler took part in a media workout on Wednesday at the American Top Team (ATT) gym in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Lawler meets Melvin “Mo Mercy” Manhoef on Saturday night.
Marloes Coenen showed the media some moves on Wednesday during a workout. The public is invited to Friday’s weigh-in at the Chairman’s Club at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla., starting at 5:30 p.m. ET.
Coenen shares a lighter moment with SHOWTIME announcer and MMA legend Frank Shamrock. Coenen battles Cris Cyborg for the Strikeforce Women’s World Lightweight championship.
Herschel Walker is interviewed by young reporter Joey Brander from a local CBS affiliate. The 6-foot 1-inch, 220 pound Walker holds a fifth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and has experience in the combat disciplines of Muay Thai and Kenpo.

“Wrestlers 4 Haiti” Raise Over $6K for Relief Effort

(Tampa, FL) – Pro wrestlers are mainly known for the weight they throw around in the ring. Turns out they have quite a bit that they put to use outside of it as well.
Wrestlers 4 Haiti, a group hastily put together with great cooperation and organization by pro wrestler Kia Stevens, a.k.a. “Awesome Kong,” and about two dozen of her compatriots, has already raised over $6,000 for the relief efforts in that earthquake-ravaged country—and counting.
The primary fundraiser was an event at a club in Lancaster, PA on January 15, where Stevens and friends entertained, mingled with fans and concerned citizens, and took pledges throughout the evening. Those unable to attend were encouraged to contribute via PayPal.
“My good friend, DJ Seth Gold, is from Harrisburg and he and I have put on parties together before,” Stevens said. “I landed there for a wrestling event on Thursday and he texted me, wanting to know if I wanted to put on a benefit for Haiti.”
The idea was certainly a good one, but Stevens realized time was of the essence.
“I said it was a fantastic idea, but they need help NOW,” she said, recalling the moment. “So I suggested that we put together something the next day, and whatever we raise, we raise.”
Because of the short notice, Stevens had modest hopes.
“I figured if we even just raised $500, that would help. It would buy some water or something.”
But enter fellow wrestler Mick Foley, who told the newly-named “Wrestlers 4 Haiti” that he would match whatever funds were raised, up to $2,500.
“That gave us a goal,” Stevens said.
After a day-and-a-half of whirlwind promotional efforts, including quickly arranged appearances on radio shows, Wrestlers 4 Haiti—about 24 pro wrestlers all told—mobilized through social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook and got the word out. A PayPal address was set up for those who wanted to contribute online.
And the cash is still coming in.
“We’re still getting pledges via PayPal,” Stevens said. “And we’ll continue soliciting donations until the situation in Haiti stabilizes,” she added.
The funds are being turned over to the American Red Cross.
Wrestlers 4 Haiti isn’t the only cause that Stevens is involved with; she’s also the founder of Fountains for Youth, a nonprofit that aims to help teens with at-risk situations utilizing peer influence.

U.S. Olympian Sadam “World Kid” Ali Fighting Feb. 6 in Newark

BROOKLYN (Jan. 27, 2010) – The road to boxing stardom for 21-year-old Sadam “World Kid” Ali, a 2008 U.S. Olympian, is being patiently paved and continues February 6 in Newark, New Jersey.
“I’m a promotional free agent taking fights one by one,” Ali explained the route he’s taking. “We’re doing it this way to show people I’m a boxer worth investing money in. I’ll probably have a lot of fights before I sign with a promoter. I’m only 21 and in no rush.”
Ali (4-0, 2 KOs), fighting out of Brooklyn, was a celebrated U.S. amateur boxer, starting when he was only nine, who became the first Arab-American member of the U.S. Olympic Team, as well as the first New York City based member of the U.S. Olympic Boxing Team in 20 years. He also was a 3-time PAL National and 2-time National Golden Gloves champion.
Last year, Sadam turned pro January 18, stopping Ricky Thompson in the opening round. He went on to win all four 2009 fights, the last coming Oct. 31 at Mohegan Sun, which ended in a 4-round decision versus Osvaldo Rivera.
Ali is matched against fellow Brooklyn welterweight Jason Thompson (4-0, 2 KOs) in a 4-round bout on the Feb. 6 “Heavy Artillery” card, headlined by Tomasz Adamek and Jason Estrada, at the Prudential Center in Newark.
“I know Jason Thompson and I’ll be ready for whatever he brings,” Ali said. “He has experience from the amateurs, fighting top guys like Danny Jacobs and Joe Greene. A lot of people will be at this fight, especially Polish fans there for Adamek, but a lot of my fans will be there, too. I have to shine; I know it’s going to be crazy. It’s just the beginning for me.
“It’s cool fighting on the same show with guys I know like (Jason) Estrada and ‘Kid Chocolate’ (Peter Quillin). I feel more comfortable than if I were fighting where I didn’t know anybody, but it’s just going to be me and Jason Thompson in the ring. Nobody’s going to help us and I just have to stay focused. I’m hard to figure out in the ring because I don’t fight one way. How I fight depends on my opponent and I figure out my best opportunity to win in the first 30 seconds. I can stand and punch, or move around and bust-up my opponent. I do it all! The key to my success is making good adjustments during the fight. ”
Ali’s head trainer, Andre Rozier, added, “Thompson is a durable opponent. Sadam hasn’t had any walk-in-the-park fights since he turned pro and Jason’s a tough nugget. We know that because he used to train in our gym. He’s a real competitor who will bring intensity into the ring like he always does. Sadam has worked hard for this fight and I expect him to excel and shine. Whether he wins by knockout or decision, he will put on a fantastic performance.”
Ali’s Olympian experience jump-started his pro career, which is still in its infancy, yet, he’s already showcased his tremendous potential. “Being an Olympian – the first New Yorker since 1988 on the U.S. Olympic Boxing Team and first Arab-American ever on the U.S. Olympic Team – has been a big boost,” Sadam concluded. “I gained valuable experience fighting all over the world against all types of guys.”
“Sadam has very fast hands and nimble footwork,” Rozier broke-down his fighter. “He is a real character – he can be standing in front of you and then he’s behind you. Sadam is his own entity, not like any other fighter. He does it his way – box on his toes, or tighten-up his defense and slug. He’s still a baby but he will be world champion, I’m sure of that. He has the ability to be great but that will all be up to him.”
The long journey has just begun for “World Kid,” unbeaten prospect Sadam Ali, a name to remember for the future.

Harris returns Friday night against Zumbrun

NEW YORK (Jan. 27, 2010) – Dangerous Maurice “Sugar Moe” Harris, returns to the ring Friday night in Albuquerque against veteran Billy “The Kid” Zumbrun.
The 33-year-old Harris (20-14-2, 10 KOs), winner of the 2002 ‘Thunderbox Heavyweight Tournament,” has been inactive for more than two years due to promotional problems. His fight against battled-tested Zumbrun marks Harris’ debut as a member of the new Boxing 360 stable.
In 2002, Harris knocked out previously unbeaten and future world title-holder Sergey Lyakhovich (16-0) in the ninth round. Harris earned a spot in that November’s “Thunderbox” tournament, eventually capturing the $100,000 winner’s purse by out-pointing , respectively, in 3-round matches in the same evening.
During the course of his up-and-down career, Maurice has also defeated David Izon, Jimmy Thunder and Jeremy Williams.
Harris fought only four times in the last six years and he’s anxious to get back into the heavyweight picture. “I’m ready and feel great,” Harris said. “I’m older, wiser and my experience is my greatest advantage. I’m going to really crack this guy and show people some new things that they haven’t seen from me. Look out heavyweights!”

Darnell “The Ding-a-Ling Man” Wilson (23-9-3) vs. Harold Sconiers (16-20-2). An interesting note on this fight is Darnell has lost 4 out of his last 5. One lose being to Andre Purlette (40-3). His opponent Sconiers is fresh off a 3rd round KO win over Purlette.
6 Round Jr. Middleweights
Cecil McCalla (9-0) vs. Jason Champion (4-4). Maybe an unassuming bout on paper, but factor in that Champion fought Jesse Nicklow (19-2) twice, losing razor thin decisions, and a loss against Tim Coleman (17-1) in another 2 point decision. This fight will be fun to watch.
6 Round Lightweights
Thomas Snow (12-1) vs. Jason Rorie (5-5). Every one of Jason’s losses have come at the hands of undefeated fighters. This guy comes to fight and will need to against the talented Snow.
4 Round Heavyweights
Venroy July (2-0-1)vs. Kevin Johnson (3-2)
4 Round Lightweights
Derrel Martin (4-11) vs. Dwayne Martin (1-1). Derrell’s last six opponents had a combined record of (50-1-3). He won once, lost four by decision and was stopped once. This will be a fun start to the show on Friday.
