Full Broadcast Averages 4.04 Million Viewers, Winning its Time Period in Adults 18-34 and Men 18-34 and Significantly Boosting the Networks Time Period Averages in all Key Adult and Men Demos

“CBS SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS” Tops College Football on ABC and ESPN in Men 18-34 and Adults 18-34

The main event of CBS SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS featuring Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers reached 5.46 million viewers while drawing impressive young adult and male demographic ratings, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings from 11:00-11:15 PM on Saturday, Nov. 7. The demographic ratings include a 3.5/10 in men 25-54, 3.3/11 in men 18-49 and 3.1/12 in men 18-34, 2.5/7 rating in adults 25-54, 2.4/8 in adults 18-49 and 2.4/09 in adults 18-34.

For the entire broadcast, CBS SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS (S) (9:00-11:24PM) averaged 4.04m viewers, winning its time period among adults 18-34 and men 18-34, and delivering ratings significantly higher than the Network’s season to date averages in the time period among young adult and male demos. The ratings include a 1.8/06 in adults 18-49, 1.8/07 in adults 18-34, 2.6/07 in men 25-54, 2.5/08 in men 18-49 and 2.3/09 in men 18-34.

Compared to CBS’s 9:00-11:00PM season-to-date averages, CBS SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS was up +38% in adults 18-49 (from 1.3/04), +125% in adults 18-34 (from 0.8/03), +117% in men 25-54 (from 1.2/03), +178% in men 18-49 (from 0.9/03) and +283% in men 18-34 (from 0.6/02).

CBS’s SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS outrated ABC’s regionalized primetime college football in men 18-34 (2.3/09 vs. 1.9/07) and adults 18-34 (1.8/07 vs. 1.5/06) and ESPN’s Florida State vs. Clemson primetime game in men 18-34 (2.3/09 vs. 0.7/03) and adults 18-34 (1.8/07 vs. 0.5/02). CBS also topped ESPN2’s primetime Vanderbilt vs. Florida game in men 18-34 (2.3/09 vs. 1.1/04) and adults 18-34 (1.8/07 vs. 0.9/04).

The audience composition for CBS SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS was 31% adults 18-34 and the median age for the broadcast was 41.4.

Let’s Get It On Promotions’ newly acquired Gonzales is coming off of a first-round knockout over Ray Craig in May. The undefeated Gonzales has proven himself as a knockout artist as he has stopped all but one of his opponents. Northern Nevada’s own Derek Hinkey is coming off of a controversial unanimous decision win against Loren Myers in July. Hinkey injured his hand early in the fight and was unable to stop the durable Myers. Monoglian native Bayan Jargal is widely regarded as one of the top lightweight prospects in the world. He was signed by Let’s Get It On Promotions last December, and remains undefeated.

Reno Nevada’s own Rick Reeves is coming off of a sensational submission victory on October 10th against Donnie Evenson. Reeves will be facing off against Sacramento’s Kito Andrews (4-2). In a local MMA match-up Devin Conkling will be fighting Frankie DiMartino of Carson City, NV for local bantamweight bragging rights.

The show will open with a local boxing rematch between Yerington’s Andrew Rempp (1-1-1) and Reno’s Johnny Mancilla (0-0-2). Rempp and Mancilla fought on February 14th of this year to a controversial draw.

FightZone TV Enters Fourth year Of Broadcasting

FightZone TV enters their fourth year of broadcasting the best of MMA events from around the country and UK with the premier of AFL1: “Unconquered Begins, Rumble At The Rock” which was held recently at the Seminole Hard Rock in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and features some of the top Florida MMA teams’ champions such as Ariel Gandulla of Bradenton, Fl. who took on Danny Babcock from Palm Bay, Fl. WORCESTER, Mass. (Nov. 9, 2009) – Shining star and undefeated prospect, Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez, rated No. 13 by the NABA, headlines Thursday night, Nov. 19, at the Main Street Armory in Rochester (NY).

The Dominican Republic-born Rodriguez (12-0, 8 KOs), fighting out of Worcester (MA), faces veteran super middleweight Brian “The Assassin” Norman (17-9, 5 KOs) in the 8-round main event, Edwin’s third in only 13 pro matches.

Rodriguez, 24, was so impressive in his last fight in Rochester, stopping Angel David Gonzalez in the third round, that promoter Ron Resnick called requesting Edwin’s return appearance, but this time as the marquee attraction. Edwin is coming off of a win Oct. 3 by a unanimous, one-sided 8-round decision against battled-tested Darnell Boone in Rhode Island.

Norman, representing Decatur, Georgia, has already upset 23-1 Tracy Sneed (WDEC8) and took current WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal and unbeaten world title contender Joe Greene the distance in 8 and 6 round bouts, respectively.

“I’m excited to be fighting another quality opponent,” Rodriguez said. “He’s been in the best and Pascal and Greene couldn’t put him away. My goal is to win and keep improving each fight, something I can’t do without fighting solid guys like Norman. I’m really looking forward to fighting again in Rochester, which is becoming my second home. It reminds me a lot of my hometown, Worcester, because it’s blue collar and fans really get behind their favorite fighters. I’m very happy that Rochester has adopted me as one of its own.”

Saturday, November 14 – Las Vegas, Nevada (HBO PPV) – Welterweights: Miguel Angel Cotto (34-1, 27 KOs) vs. Manny Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 KOs)

Certain truths are self-evident. Among them, that the term “Super Fight” is over-used by promoters seeking to inflate ticket and PPV sales. However, this coming Saturday, boxing fans are being treated to an actual Super Fight, between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto. In a year when the sport has enjoyed a revival in every division except the heavyweights, this fight is second to none.

On paper, it would appear that Pac Man has to be favored. He is in the prime of one of boxing’s truly legendary careers. He has grown in size and strength, yet has retained his speed of hand and foot, and his punching power has translated extremely well to the higher weight divisions. More, in Freddie Roach, Manny has the perfect match as his trainer: Roach understands the mental and physical dynamics of boxing as well as any trainer today. In fact, like Pacquiao, Freddie has secured his spot among the best ever. Now, that is a tough combination to compete against in the brutal, unforgiving world of boxing.

Yet, in Miguel Cotto, Pacquiao faces his most dangerous test in the higher weight divisions. It would be easy to focus too much attention on Cotto’s lone loss, when he was TKOed in 11 rounds by Antonio Margarito in July of 2008. But Miguel Cotto brings far, far more into the ring than one defeat – a loss that certainly has an asterisk next to it, due to the loaded hand wraps controversy.

Cotto is, in fact, one of the most intense of predators inside the ring. Except for the loss to Margarito, Miguel has been able to ultimately impose his will on some of the best fighters of his era, including opponents who have speed, superior boxing skills, and serious punching power. Cotto has fast hands, good balance and upper-body movement, can cut off the ring, and the ability to throw his punches in a manner that can offset an opponent’s greater hand speed. And, as Paul Malignaggi has noted, he is the “dirtiest” fighter in the business: he will use his head, shoulders, and elbows as weapons. In his war with Zab Judah, Cotto also displayed a willingness to throw as many hard low blows as needed to impair his foe’s defensive skills.

It is also important to recognize that Miguel Cotto’s best punch is his left hook to the body. It is extremely difficult to fight back if you have had the wind knocked out of you. It’s impossible to remain on your feet, if your opponent has curled your legs underneath you with a shot to the liver. That’s just a reality in the ring, and one that accounts for the two out of three loses on Pacquiao’s record that were by knockout.

Still, although no outcome will surprise me, I tend to favor Manny by TKO somewhere around the 8th or 9th round. The biggest factor, in my opinion, will be his advantage in hand speed. Pacquiao is a crisp puncher at welterweight, and Cotto’s eyebrows will not hold up. The reduction in his field of vision will make it easier for Pacquiao to deliver punches that Miguel does not see coming. And Cotto has a history of being hurt by fast punches that he doesn’t see coming – not only in the Ricardo Torres fight, but more importantly, even against Malignaggi.

If Manny Pacquiao wins, it will set the stage for the only fight in boxing that would be even more anticipated as a “Super Fight” – against Floyd Mayweather, Jr. It seems to me to be one of those fights that boxing demands. Not just the experts, and the fans, but boxing history. While I believe that we will see that fight, likely next June in Yankee Stadium, and it’s build-up will be outrageous, it might not be as exciting a fight as we are going to watch this weekend.
