LAS VEGAS (Nov. 5, 2009) — Grapplers Quest, “The World’s Largest Grappling Competition,” has selected The Texas Station Gambling Hall and Hotel in North Las Vegas as the official host for the 2009 World Series of Grappling, featuring $15,000 in cash and prizes, Saturday, December 12, starting at 10:00 AM/PT.
Attendees will meet Mixed Martial Arts superstars, help raise money for Autism, win door prizes, participate in video game tournaments, and shop for numerous MMA brands and local businesses supporting the event. For more event information, visit http://tinyurl.com/gqworldseries2009
The 2009 World Series of Grappling is the first International professional and amateur submission wrestling event in Nevada, drawing some of the World’s Best Submission Fighters to compete for $15,000 in cash and prizes, including Ryan Hall, Sim Go, Baret Yoshida, Scott “Einstein” Epstein, Urijah Faber prodigy, Matt Sanchez, Wilson Reis, Rodrigo Ranieri, Daniel Valverde, Romulo Barral, Chris Moriarty, Walter Vital, Marcello Salazar, Bruno Bastos, John Toth, and South Africa’s World Female Grappling Champion, Penny Thomas. Professional Grapplers and mixed martial arts fighters may submit resumes to the event promoter, Brian Cimins, at CEO@Grapplers.com.
Additionally, more than 1,000 amateur competitors worldwide are expected to battle for 230 World Amateur Grappling Titles for all ages and skill levels in Submission Grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, in addition to $10,000 in Absolute, open weight division prizes. The 2009 World Championship Grappling event will feature 27 International Teams, including Brazil, Japan, Canada, Dominican Republic, Mexico, as well as 33 United States-based squads.
Also, 75 World Championship Belts will be on the line for all Advanced Divisions, open weight classes, and Superfight Divisions.
Grappling is the ground fighting art of Mixed Martial Arts that combines the throws of Olympic Judo, takedowns of Wrestling, Leg Locks from Sambo, and other Submissions from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu like arm-bars, shoulder locks and chokes. Competitors of all ages and skill levels participate in the event, which is open to all grappling styles.
Grapplers Quest helps raise funds for Autism Awareness, Education and Treatments, and hopefully a cure at each competition nationwide. One dollar from each ticket sold is donated to help support “Grappling with Autism,” a nationally recognized effort to assist in funding Autism Biomedical and Diet Treatments for families in need. Los Angeles, CA (November 5)-On the heels of his first primetime television appearance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live and his recognition as a 2009 Gusi Peace Prize laureate, boxing phenom Manny Pacquiao now finds himself on the cover of TIME Magazine Asia edition (see below) as part of a five page feature story on the boxing Champion that will be included in all editions (global and US market) of the magazine hitting newsstands this weekend.
With the population of Asia being the largest in the world, Pacquiao is overwhelmed with the idea of so many people seeing his face on the cover of such a prestigious magazine.

LAS VEGAS (November 4, 2009) – Due to the official sell out of the MGM Grand Garden Arena for the November 14 Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel Cotto “FIRE POWER” mega-fight, tickets for closed circuit seating are not far behind and moving briskly as fans head to Las Vegas in droves to be part of boxing’s big fight finale of 2009.
Limited seating is still available at all locations including MGM Grand Premier Ballroom, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, The Mirage, Excalibur, Monte Carlo and Circus Circus. In three days, on Saturday, Nov. 7, the talented Mixed Martial Arts fighters will be featured on a fight card at the Sears Centre on the CBS Television Network (9 p.m. ET/PT).
Fedor (30-1, 1 NC), of Russia, will be opposed by undefeated, hard-hitting Brett Rogers (10-0) of St. Paul, Minn., in the main event.
Mousasi (29-2-1), of the Netherlands, will put his 13-fight winning streak on the line against Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (7-4) of Murrieta, Calif., in a non-title scrap; Miller (22-6) of Orange County, Calif., will take on a winner of 12 in a row, Jake Shields (23-4-1), of San Francisco, for the Strikeforce world middleweight belt; and Werdum (12-4-1), of Marina Del Rey, Calif., and Silva (13-1), of Coconut Creek, Fla., will clash in a battle of highly regarded Brazilian heavyweights in the other CBS matchups.

“I am always amazed at the reaction I get in cities in the United States and it gives me a good feeling. I appreciate it very much. It only makes me want to give a better performance.

“This is going to be a good fight. Brett Rogers is good opponent who is undefeated. Fighting in a cage will be different, but I have trained in a cage before.’’

“I feel good and I am happy to be part of such a great card. The exposure we will get for ourselves and the sport of MMA will be tremendous on Saturday night.
“My opponent is very dangerous and I expect a very difficult fight. He has lost a couple fights but they were to good fighters, so there may be some people who are underestimating him. But I am not.
“This fight will last longer than my last one, which I was actually hoping would last longer. But I don’t think there is any way this will go the distance.’’
JASON “MAYHEM’’ MILLER
“I think it’s funny how some people are underestimating me. I’m shocked at the odds. I should be the favorite. But oddsmakers’ jobs are to make money and to get action.
“I’m going to turn this into a brawl. I’m not interested in turning it into a hugging contest, which is what he may do. I want to keep the fight at a fast pace, while I think Jake will want to slow it down and grind it out.
“It’s possible, if I have my way, and Shields does his part, that we will have the fight of the night.’’
FABRICIO WERDUM
“I have prepared very hard for a good fight and that’s what I expect. I think this fight will have a little bit of everything. He’s a very strong opponent and has lost only once.
“I want to fight the best, but my focus is always on my next fight. So, right now, my concentration is totally on Silva. I have to win Saturday so I can continue to do what I want to do.’’
ANTONIO “BIG FOOT’’ SILVA
“I am very happy to be fighting again in the United States against a very worthy opponent on CBS.
“I had a fight in late September, but that only lasted one round (3:51). But I trained very hard before that and I trained very hard after it. I’ve been training daily for about four straight months.
“There was a time, in the beginning, after I was told I couldn’t fight, that I actually doubted that I’d be able to fight again. But as time went on, and things progressed and everything was solved, I became more confident.
“Still, it was a huge relief when I was told I could fight again.
“I am ready for Saturday and prepared for anything he has to offer and ready to go anywhere the fight goes.’’

Jose Canseco, Rodney King Ready to Take on Opponents in Much-Anticipated Boxing Event

(Springfield, MA) – Jose Canseco is ready to silence one of his critics—the hard way. Meanwhile, Rodney King isn’t turning the other cheek this time.
Former baseball star Canseco, a slugger at the plate, is now a slugger with his fists, and he has another Celebrity Boxing Federation (CBF) match scheduled to prove his mettle.
The iconic King, a symbol of late-20th century civil rights, is scheduled to appear on the same card.
Canseco will take on Pittsfield, MA native Todd Poulton on Friday, November 6 at the Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place Hotel as one of the two headline bouts of Celebrity Boxing 13: David vs. Goliath.
The other headliner match will feature King, who’ll face Derek MacIntosh, a former basketball star-turned actor from Cambridge, MA.
Rodney King is famous for the plea, “Can’t we all just get along?”
Not in the ring on November 6, apparently.
“He’s been yapping about me a lot,” Canseco said of Poulton, who’s a CBF veteran and someone who’s battled OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) most of his adult life. “Well, he’s going to get his chance with me in the ring, but I’m going to make sure he regrets it,” Canseco added, grinning.
The bad blood between Canseco and Poulton was on display once again on Tuesday, October 6, when a press conference was held promoting the fight at the same hotel as where the match will take place.
As for King, he wants to win badly enough that he’s moved from Los Angeles all the way to Broomall, PA so that he may be trained by Pennsylvania boxing legend Marty Feldman.
“If I’m in, I’m in all the way,” King said of his cross-country move to be with Feldman.
In CBF circles, Canseco is perhaps best remembered for going toe-to-toe with actor, radio personality, and Reality TV star Danny Bonaduce earlier in 2009—a match that is still talked about.
“I’m done talking,” Canseco said about the match with Poulton. “Now I’m just waiting for November 6.”
