FORMER NHL TOUGH GUY NATHAN PERROTT TO MAKE PRO DEBUT AT THE LEGENDARY BLUE HORIZON ON SEPTEMBER 11TH

PHILADELPHIA (September 2ND 2009)—On Friday night September 11th, former NHL tough guy, Nathan Perrott will be making his pro debut against Makidi Ku-Tima in a four round Heavyweight bout as part of a HUGE eleven bout card at The Legendary Blue Horizon in Philadelphia.

Nathan was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the second round of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, with the 44th overall pick. Unsigned by New Jersey, Nathan signed with the Chicago Blackhawks and spent 3 and a half years in the Chicago organization before being traded to the Nashville Predators in 2001. Nathan made his NHL debut with Nashville during the 2001–02 NHL season, registering 3 points and 74 penalty minutes in 21 games. Nathan continued to play within the Nashville organization before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2003 for Bob Wren. Nathan finished the 2002–2003 regular season with the St. John’s Maple Leafs. In the 2003–2004 season Nathan was a long shot to crack the Maple Leafs roster but rose to the occasion. He spent the entire 2003–2004 season playing for the Leafs registering 3 points and 174 penalty minutes in 40 games. At the beginning of the 2005–2006 season was traded to the Dallas Stars for a 5th round draft pick.

Perrott boxed as a teenager and then pursued his hockey career. One summer Perott was spending in Sana Monica, California a boxing trainer thought that Perrott could make a career out of boxing. That trainer heard that Lou Duva was looking for a hockey player to train. Duva and Perrot met at the first Samuel Peter-James Toney fight in Los Angeles.

Ironically Perrott went to camp with the New Jersey Devils which was not far from where Duva resides. While in New Jersey, Perrott met with Duva’s son in law, famed trainer Tommy Brooks.

Perrott had four amateur bouts, posting a 3-1 record. Perrott continued his hockey career in Russia for two years. While in Russia, Perrott struck up a friendship with former Olympic gold medalist and currant IBF number-one ranked heavyweight Alexander Povetkin. Perrott then came back to New Jersey and hooked up with trainer Joe Grier and has settled in Clifton, New Jersey.

Perrott has sparred with up and coming Elvin Sanchez.

That is just one of eleven big bouts scheduled for September as in the main event Jr. Welterweight Steve Upsher Chambers (19-1-1, 5 KO’s) of Philadelphia takes on Aaron Drake

In the co-feature, it will be an eight round Jr. Middleweight tussle, Darren Fallen (12-4-1, 6 KO’s) takes on rugged Joshua Onyango (14-17-1, 11 KO’s)

In an intriguing six round Jr. Featherweight bout, Joselito Collado (8-0, 2 KO’s) of Queens, NY battles local favorite Jules Blackwell (8-2-2, 3 KO’s) of Phoenixville, PA

Phillip McCants (7-1-1, 3 KO’s) of Philadelphia tries to shake off three years worth of rust when he battles unbeaten prospect Glenn Tapia (3-0, 2 KO’s) of Passaic, New Jersey.

In a six round Lightweight bout, Isaac Suarez (7-0, 2 KO’s) of Lancaster, PA battles Mondre Pope, (1-0-1) of Virginia.

Former New York Yankees farm hand Richard Brown (4-0, 2 KO’s) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida will take on Kevin Hood (5-11-1) of Coatesville, PA in a four round Heavyweight affair.

Joe Alonzo of Philadelphia will be making his pro debut against William “The Scool Teacher” Brown (4-3, 2 KO’s) in a four round Welterweight bout.

Popular ladies welterweight, Jackie Davis (2-0, 1 KO) will take on Victoria Cisneros (3-6-2) of Albuquerque, New Mexico in a ladies Welterweight bout

Filipino, Jason Sia makes his pro debut against Deroy Beaton in a four round Jr. Welterweight bout.

Sonsona and Lopez Say Little, Promise A Lot

Filipino Upstart Slugger and WBO Jr. Bantamweight Champ Vow to Wage War at Rumble at Rama IX

TORONTO, ON (Wednesday, September 2, 2009) – WBO Junior Bantamweight Champion Jose “Carita” Lopez (39-7-2, 32 KO’s) and his opponent, budding superstar “Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona (13-0, 12 KO’s), met for the first time at the final pre-fight press conference in advance of their title clash that tops Rumble at Rama IX, set for Friday, September 4th, at Casino Rama, in Rama, Ontario.

While both fighters had little to say to the assembled media on Wednesday, they promised that the subdued press conference was just the calm before the storm.

“I know he is a strong, fast fighter, but I didn’t work this hard to become champion just to give my belt away,” said Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico’s Lopez who after four previous attempts at a world title, finally tasted boxing glory in his last fight, a 12 round unanimous decision over Pramuansak Posuwan for the vacant WBO 115 lb. title.

“I respect my opponent greatly, but with all his skills, it’s nothing I haven’t seen and dealt with before.”

For the 19 year-old Sonsona, Lopez poses easily the most daunting challenge of his young career.

“I know this fight will be a tough one, but I’ve trained hard, and am confident that if I stick to my game plan I’ll come home a champion,” said Sonsona, who hails from General Santos City, in the Philippines, the same hometown as international boxing superstar, and Pinoy icon, Manny Pacquiao.

“Lopez is a tough, tough man. This should be a great fight.”

In his last fight, Sonsona burst on to the international boxing scene with a devastating second round TKO over former world champion Wandee Singwancha this past May, and put his name on the shortlist of elite boxing prospects.

And while the 19 year-old Sonsona is nearly half the age of the 37 year-old champion, and possesses power not normally seen in boxing’s lower weight classes, Lopez hasn’t lost since a unanimous decision setback in September of 2001 to Fernando Montiel, one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, and has gone 15-0-1 in the stretch, with 9 KO’s.

“This is such a great night of fights,” said Allan Tremblay, President of Orion Sports Management.

“We have such a competitive and compelling main event between a potential superstar in Sonsona, and a hardened, tough-as-nails vet in Lopez. Both guys throw bombs, and both come to put on a show. I really think we’re looking at a potential fight of the year candidate.”

In the evening’s co-feature, former IBF Junior Featherweight champion “The Canadian Kid” Steve Molitor (29-1, 11 KO’s) will face seasoned veteran Dario Azuaga (76-15-2, 64 KO’s) in an eight round bout.

“I’m excited to be a part of this great card, and eager to get another crack at a world title,” said Molitor, who has reunited with his previous trainer Chris Johnson, who skippered Molitor’s corner during his title winning effort over Michael Hunter in November of 2006, and four successful title defenses.

“Everything is pointing in the right direction. I just have to be patient and take care of business against Azuaga.”

Olympian Demetrius Andrade returns home for Friday night’s “School’s In” show at Twin River

PROVIDENCE (Sept. 2, 2009) – A year ago, 2008 Olympian Demetrius “The Cape Verdean Assassin” Andrade was a world amateur champion representing the United States in the Olympic Games. Now, considered one of the top pro prospects in the world, Demetrius returns home to fight Friday night in the 6-round co-feature on the “School’s In” card, at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, Rhode Island.

Poor scoring at the Olympics may have left Andrade with a sour taste, but the junior middleweight has moved on as his pro journey takes him, hopefully, to even greater heights.

“All of that is in the past,” Andrade said. “I learned never to put the final result of a fight in the hands of the judges. I either knock out my opponent or beat him badly to where there’s no doubt I won.

“I’ve been training hard in the gym for this fight. I really love fighting at home. There’s no added pressure on me at all. I like it better than being far away from home in a hotel room. Here, I enjoy chillin’ out with my family and friends. I’m much more comfortable fighting at home and look forward to it.”

THE HUGELY successful Prizefighter event, scheduled for Friday 2nd October and featuring the cream of British heavyweights, will now take place at ExCel, London following unprecedented demand for tickets.

Originally slated for the York Hall, Bethnal Green, the competition featuring the likes of Danny Williams, Audley Harrison and Michael Sprott, sold out its 1,100 capacity within 48 hours of going on sale. In addition a waiting list has been created running into several hundred.

With a total of seven 3 x 3 minute round fights, Prizefighter’s explosive all-in-one-night concept goes from strength to strength, with Heavyweights III featuring some of British boxing’s biggest names.

There is £32,000 out of a total purse of £80,000 going to the winner as well as a glorious opportunity to use Prizefighter as a launch pad for a world title shot.

“We felt that a sold out York Hall would create a superb atmosphere for what is the most high profile Prizefighter yet, but with the unprecedented demand it was only fair to give everyone a chance to be at what will be boxing’s night of the year” said promoter Barry Hearn.

NOTES ABOUT PRIZEFIGHTER

– Eight competitors in the same weight fight in four quarter-finals, two semi-finals and the final with all the action happening in one exciting night of boxing.

– Each contest lasts a maximum of three rounds with standard boxing rules applied.

– If there has not been a knockout or stoppage then the winner will be decided by three scoring judges at ringside.

EDMONTON, Aug. 31, 2009 – Super Channel Fights!, part of Canada’s only national pay television network, is proud to offer the undefeated super middleweight Andre “S.O.G.” Ward sharing the stage with his first Super Six World Boxing Classic™ opponent Mikkel “Viking Warrior” Kessler on a special Saturday primetime edition of Showtime’s ShoBox: The New Generation on Sept. 12.

Ward (19-0, 12 KOs) will tangle with Shelby Pudwill (22-3-1, 9 KOs) of McGlauglin, S.D., in a 10-round super middleweight scrap live from Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California.

In his last fight Dec. 6, 2008, Pudwill beat Anthony Osbourne, with an eighth-round knockout. Inactive in all of 2007, Pudwill suffered a loss in his fight before Osbourne to John Duddy in 2006. Pudwill took eight straight wins into the Duddy fight – hadn’t lost for almost five years – from June 2001 to March 2006.

The Ward fight will air LIVE immediately following Mikkel Kessler World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight mandatory title defense against No. 1 ranked Gusmyl Perdomo of Turmero, Venezuela, offered on same-day tape delay from Herning, Denmark.

“As the mandatory challenger, Perdomo deserves to fight for the title (but) I want to take my WBA belt into the tournament.” said Kessler. “(This) is the last obstacle that I need to overcome. I will be prepared and I will be ready. I will definitely not underestimate him.”

Viewers will be treated to Kessler’s showcase title fight preceding his Super Six World Boxing Classic™ showdown with Ward scheduled for Nov. 21, 2009. Ward vs Kessler promises to be one of the most exciting fights of the year, pitting Team USA’s only Olympic Games gold medalist from Athens 2004 against Kessler of Copenhagen, Denmark, an early favourite in the tournament.

The action begins on Super Channel at 10 p.m. ET. It’s all on Super Channel Fights – unedited and commercial-free.

Boston Mass. September 1, 2009 – World Championship Fighting today announced more fights for their September 26th show at the Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington, Mass.

Local 7 Iron Worker, and frequent WCF Fighter John Benoit takes yet another tough fight when he takes on American Top Team’s Hitalo Machado. Benoit was very impressive in his recent win at WCF 7 over Damien Trites, and he looks to keep the train rolling against Machado. Machado makes his WCF debut, but is no stranger to the local fans. He’s a Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt, and is also an accomplished striker. This highly anticipated fight is sure to please.

Damien Trites will make his return to WCF after his war with John Benoit when he takes on Noah Weisman. Noah was impressive in his pro debut with WCF, beating Steve Beck by submission in the first round. Trites will be a big step up in competition for him, but Weisman is looking to get in there with the very best fighters the WCF can give him. Trites is looking for a rematch with Benoit, and a win here could set that fight up.

Two WCF newcomers are set to face off at WCF 8 when Jonathan Sola takes on Jeremy Ross. Both have fought some of the best 155ers in New England, and win here could propel them into the top 10. Both fighters are well rounded, but their strength is their jiu-jitsu. A slick submission is to be expected in this one.

In what could be the fight of the night, Luis Felix takes on Chris Foster. Felix has great wrestling and heavy hands, and Foster is one of the best boxers in local MMA. Both fighters will look to win by knock out, and no matter who wins, this fight will be action backed from the opening bell
