Randy Couture (16-9-0) Vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (31-5-1)

ROUND ONE:

Randy lands first combo. Boxing well, won’t let Nogueira get close. Nogueira fights outside for bit. Randy goes to inside boxing, won’t go to ground. Randy landing awesome ducking jab. Fighters clinch. Randy keeping hands up, but gets caught throwing. Randy is down and stunned. Nogueira trying for crazy choke. Randy is in deep, but he gets out. Randy goes back to dirty boxing. Nogueira is fighting smart. Randy goes back outside. Looking like Anderson Silva with his boxing, Randy tees off . Nogueira slugs back. Finally a kick from Nogueira, but it doesn’t land. Both guys swinging for the fences. lots of shots landing toward the end of the round. Styles make fights, and this a sluggers’ paradise. Both guys are gonna need an ice pack and a steak on the eye after this round.

ROUND TWO:

pawing early, Randy is starting to get fancy. Nogueira catches him with one, but Randy gets TD. Nogueira working from the back well. Couture turtling up and resting. Starts throwing elbows. Nice crashing elbows bouncing off Nogueira’s skull. Nogueira gets so pissed he reverses position. Randy getting popped with decent hooks. Nogueira hooks up an arm triangle. Just like Rosholt. Randy seems to have things under control. Nogueira landing rib shots at will. Randy hanging on for life. Ducking blows, waiting for Nogueira to get tired. Randy works his way to his feet. Now it’s on. 1-2 lands nice from Randy. An uppercut lands well, but Nogueira is fighting back. Back to great slugging. Nogueira lands knee and leg kick. Randy lands nice right hook.

ROUND THREE:

Feed went out for a sec. Nogueira is on top with 2:30 left, working for chokes and hammer-fisting Randy. Nogueira gets Randy’s back. Randy has to get a KO at this point or end the round well for a decision. He reverses position and tees off from the top. Almost on cue. Nogueira is stalling, guarding well. Randy lands nice elbow. Just inside 30 seconds and it looks to be a slow end to the fight. Randy almost gets reversed in last couple seconds. Doesn’t look good for Captain America getting the win. The UFC should have had them go 5 just for the heck of it. How ’bout an overtime round?

30-27, 30-27, 29-28 For Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Aww shucks, Randy, you still look good for your late 40s.

Jake Rosholt (5-1-0) Vs. Chris Leben (18-5-0)

ROUND 1: Feeling each other out, Leben more active, chasing. Both fighters kicking each other’s legs, not landing much else. Looks like interpretive dance fighting for a while. Leben misses big left, Rosholt rushes in with flurry, knee attempt. Leben gets TD and top position against the cage. Leben tenderizes Rosholt a bit, but Leben comes up bleeding, too. Rosholt get TD inside a minute left, manhandling Leben. Leben stands away from knee. He’s mad, but not able to land anything but looping wild-man punches that are way off target.

ROUND 2

Leben works to TD, not doing all that much to stay busy on top. Few good hooks land to the jaw. Rosholt is getting that exhausted look. Ref stands them up. Leben wants the KO, can’t find proper range. Rosholt not committed to throwing andy big punches. Leben pushes Rosolt against the cage, foot stomps landing from Leben. Rosholt fights off the fence and jabs to TD. Tries arm-in Guillotine, can’t cinch. gets a bit of distance, but can’t haul off any KO blows.

ROUND 3:

Rosholt quick to get a takedown. Can’t finish off choke. Rosholt crashes down some elbows to Leben’s head. Rosholt possessed. Gets arm triangle deep. Puts Leben to sleep. Perfect execution. Looks like Leben started to pass out in mid tap. Official time: 1:30 of 3rd round.

Keith Jardine (14-6-1) Vs. Thiago Silva (13-1-0)

ROUND ONE:

Jardine comes on very strong with unorthodox striking. Thiago stalking, can’t penetrate reach. Grabs Jardine’s leg, takes him down. Jardine back on his feet in a jiffy. Just when Jardine was looking good, Silva lands a rock solid punch that drops Jardine. The left hook is followed up by straight downward shots to the jaw. KO For Silva. Official Time: 1:35 in Round 1.

Nate Marquardt(31-8-2) Vs. Demian Maia (11-0)

Marquardt wastes no time, ending the fight almost immediately with a right hand. Could have popped him another but held back. Official time: 21 seconds. KO For Marquardt, Maia takes first loss.

Teddy K. has gone away
To the senate in the sky to play.
A stalwart man for human rights,
Haunted on many sleepless nights
By ghosts and high expectations.
He got an Irish Wake of recitations.

No more in the prime of privileged life,
No more the lion’s roar in the limelight.
No more talk of Arthur’s Camelot,
Now that Teddy’s farm is bought.
A brother he was with too much to live up to.
A politician with way to much to try to do.
And so very little precious time
To make penance for his crime.

Yes, Ole Teddy K has gone away, to the senate in the sky to play
With his service themed like a famous breakfast on St. Patty’s Day.
We’ll miss him more than he might have thought.
For, he was a voice for all those who had not.
A legend striving to rise above his fatal flaws,
Making history with his fabled, flapping jaws.
He had a tireless sense of coming through,

The nineteen year-old Sonsona, from Manny Pacquiao’s hometown of General Santos City, the Philippines, is coming off an impressive second round demolition of former world champion Wandee Singwancha this past May, a victory that put his name atop the list of boxing’s elite blue-chip prospects.

Professional Boxers and Mixed Martial Artists Get Roasted For a Good Cause!

La Habra, California – On Sunday September 6, 2009, Convicted Artist Inc. has the honor of presenting the first of its kind live comedy roast of elite mixed martial artists and professional boxers at the scintillating Jon Lovitz Comedy Club in HOLLYWOOD ‘S Universal Studios City Walk. Convicted Artist has teamed up with its partners to help raise money to rebuild the recently destroyed La Habra Boxing Foundation’s Club located in La Habra, California. The club was established from an old church in 1981 by one of Southern California’s highest recognized Vietnam Veterans and boxing trainer David Martinez. Mr. Martinez opened the La Habra Boxing Foundation to allow youngsters to constructively channel their energies into a self-confidence building sport. Over ten World Boxing Champions have been trained from Mr. Martinez’s boxing club.

The Roast is an event in which top MMA & Boxing stars are subject to publicly bearing comedic insults, praise, and outrageous true and untrue stories and heartwarming accomplishments by top comedians in which they all take in good faith. Elite fighters including KJ Noons, Rob McCullough, Mighty Mo, Saad Awad, Kimo Leopoldo, Richard Schiller, Dave Cryer, Georgi Karakhanyan will have shots taken at them including Boxing & MMA trainers such as John Bray of the TV Reality Show “The Contender”; cut man & trainer David Martinez, Masters Hall of Fame Inductee & former IFL Sabres Striking Coach, Joe “Striker” Hanlin; and Tony Salazar of Advanced Boxing Techniques.

8th annual “Fight To Educate” pro boxing card returns to Manchester

MANCHESTER, N.H. (August 28, 2009) – Professional boxing returns September 23, showcasing some of New England’s top prospects at the 8th annual “Fight To Educate” charity event, live at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire.

The 8th annual Fight To Educate, presented by MB Tractor & Equipment, in association with Cedric Kushner’s Gotham Boxing, will benefit the SEE Science Center, Bobby Stephen Fund for Education, and The Veterans Count Club.

“We are extremely excited about the 8th annual ‘Fight To Educate’ pro boxing show at the Verizon Wireless Center,” said Stephen Singer, Chairman, Fight to Educate Executive Board. “It promises to be an evening of unparalleled excitement including a first-class buffet, heart-pounding pro boxing, and boxing legends in attendance. There will also be a live auction will showcase the fund-raiser with several uniquely autographed memorabilia items. It’s going to be a knockout event once again.”

Three-time world title challenger, New Jersey light heavyweight Omar Sheika (27-9, 18 KOs), headlines against unbeaten Czech Republic fighter Adam Huninger (13-0, 10 KOs), in the 10 round main event.

Undefeated Worcester middleweight prospect Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez (11-0, 8 KOs), 2-time U.S. national amateur champion, and Granite State favorite Richard Gingras (9-2, 5 KOs), star of The Contender IV and fighting out of nearby Claremont (NH), are also fighting on “The Maul In Manchester” card in separate 8-round bouts.

2008 U.S. Olympic Team alternate Danny O’Connor (8-0. 2 KOs), who made his pro debut at the “Fight To Educate,” faces Julias Edmonds (5-5) in a 6-rounder. O’Connor, a Framingham (MA) native, captured gold medals at last U.S. Future Stars, in which, he was selected Outstanding Boxer of the tournament, and National Golden Gloves Championships.

“Our show will focus more this year on local talent like Framingham’s Danny O’Connor, Worcester’s Edwin Rodriguez and New Hampshire’s own Rich Gingras,” explained Cedric Kushner, President of New York-based Gotham Boxing. This combined with the solid main event, as well as the favorite category of the show – the living legends in attendance – should more than double last year’s crowd.”

Undefeated heavyweight Faruq “The Dream” Saleem (38-0, 32 KOs) and Bronx (NY) super middleweight Hajro Sujak (3-0, 1 KO) are scheduled to fight on the undercard in six and four round bouts, respectively, against opponents to be determined.
