That was not the only action filled fight of the night as Jamal Davis and Manuel Guzman traded heavy shots throughout their six round Jr. Middleweight tussle.

Every time Davis would have Guzman in trouble, the Lancaster, PA native would come back to rock Davis. This fight was a crowd pleasing affair.

Former Dominican Olympian, Jerson Ravelo got back on the winning track by outpointing Willis Lockett over eight rounds.

PHILLY’S FINEST FIGHTERS ON ONE BIG NIGHT OF BOXING

Salem, NJ (August 8, 2009)—This Friday night two of the hottest fighters in the boxing Mecca that is Philadelphia will apply their craft across state lines in New Jersey as undefeated lightweight, “Hammering” Hank Lundy and rising Jr. Middleweight, Derek “Pooh” Ennis will participate in separate co-features on a big night of boxing at the Campbell Fitness Center in Salem, New Jersey.

The DUNGEON IN SALEM is promoted by Lamar Johnson’s Dungeon Warrior Promotions in associations with Bionic Bull Promotions.

Lundy, 14-0-1 with eight knockouts will take on Gary Bergeron in a bout scheduled for eight rounds.

Lundy of Philadelphia has developed into one of the hottest prospects in the city as he will take on anyone at anytime regardless of his opponent’s record or credentials.

Lundy has stopped his previous two opponents including Josh Beamon in his last fight in five rounds on July 17th.

Bergeron will be looking to upset Lundy and walk into enemy territory to do it.

The native of Chalmette, Louisiana sports a record of 10-4 with six knockouts. In his last bout, Bergeron dropped a six round unanimous decision to Henry Mitchell on July 25th in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

Ennis of Philadelphia quietly climbing the ranks and is on the cusp of landing a significant bout.

Ennis has a record of 18-2-1 with twelve knockouts. Ennis is riding a six bout winning streak with three of those wins coming by knockout. In his last bout, Ennis scored two knockdowns en route to a six round unanimous decision over the durable John Mackey on July 10th in a bout that was televised on ESPN 2.

Ennis opponent will be announced shortly.

In a six round Jr. Lightweight bout, Coy Evans of Philadelphia will battle Darrell Martin of Baltimore, Md.

Evans has a record of 4-0-1 and is coming off a four round unanimous decision over Jose Espinal on February 3rd in Brooklyn, New York

Martin has been a staple in the Delaware Valley as this will be his be the tenth appearance in the tri-state area.

Martin sports a deceiving record of 4-10 with one knockout as the combined record of his opponents is 61-7-5. This will be the fourth consecutive where Martin will be taking on an undefeated opponent.

Martin is coming off a six round unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Eddie Soto (11-0) on July 17th in Providence, Rhode Island.

In a six round Lightweight bout, Antonio Espinoza will risk his undefeated record against san opponent to be named.

Espinoza of West New York, New Jersey has a record of 11-0 with one knockout and is coming off a six round unanimous decision over Ron Boys back on May 23rd in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania

In a Ladies Lightweight bout, Elizabeth Sherman of Philadelphia takes on debut Keytida Cook of York, South Carolina.

Sherman has a record of 1-0 which was a knockout over Samantha Ward of Anderson, Indiana on June 27th.

Coming off his debut victory on April 4th over Soumana Abdoulaye, Lonnie Jackson Jr. will battle debuting Bobby Bynum of Wilson, North Carolina.

Rounding out the card will see Dan Grafton of Philadelphia battle Walter Tyler of New Jersey in a four round Cruiserweight bout.

Jones-Lacy headlines Aug. 15 “Hook City” PPV in Biloxi

BILOXI, Miss. (August 9, 2009) – Two promising lightweight prospects, Jason “American Boy” Litzau (24-2, 20 KOs) and Verquan “The Show” Kimbrough (21-1-2, 7 KOs), open-up the “Hook City” pay per view this show Saturday night (August 15), headlined by 8-time world boxing champion Roy “Captain Hook” Jones, Jr. (53-5, 39 KOs) and 2-time super middleweight world title-holder Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy (25-2, 17 KOs), in one of four title fights airing live from the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi.

Litzau and Kimbrough square-off in a 10-round bout for the vacant NABF title in a much-anticipated showdown that has the potential to be the Fight of the Night. Kimbrough is trying to get where Litzau, who has fought for a world title, has been and plans to return.

Litzau, fighting out of St. Paul (MN), has already tasted what it’s like to be in a world title fight having lost to IBF featherweight champion Robert Guerrero 1 ½ years ago. Like Kimbrough, the flashy, 26-year-old Litzau was a standout amateur, winning 125 of 135 matches, including a gold medal in the National Silver Gloves Championship, later earning a spot on the 2001 U.S. National Boxing Team.

“Every fight I’m in is exciting,” Litzau said. “There are always fireworks in a Jason Litzau fight. Every fight is an important fight but a win will get me closer to where I was (world title fight). Kimbrough’s a good, quick boxer. I knew him from the amateurs but he was always bigger (weight class) than me. I’m taller (5’ 10” to 5’ 5”) and will take advantage of that by shooting jabs and moving. When I fight there’s always a buzz because fans know that they’re going to see an exciting fighter — Jason Litzau. Nothing but a great fight is going to happen August 15th.”

In the 12-round co-feature for the IBO cruiserweight crown, 2-time world champion Danny “Green Machine” Green (26-3, 23 KOs), the Australian power-puncher rated No. 5 by the WBA, takes on South American light heavyweight title-holder Julio Cesar “La Furia” Dominguez (20-4-1, 14 KOs).

Also on the PPV card, NABO junior heavyweight champion B.J. “El Peligroso” Flores (23-0-1, 14 KOs), rated No. 3 by the WBO and No. 6 by the WBA, defends his belt against former world title challenger Epifanio “Diamente” Mendoza (29-7-1, 25 KOs), the Colombian KO king who has knocked out 25 of his 29 opponents he’s defeated.

Of all guts and glory action offered up at UFC 101, only three fights plucked at the heart strings of fight fans everywhere. While two bouts ended as most would have predicted, another caught spectators completely off guard and one of the predicted finishes ended in the most unpredictable way.

Hendricks vs. Sadollah

Amir Sadollah won the hearts of MMA fans while competing on season 7 of The Ultimate Fighter. After defeating everyone the show threw at him, he faced CB Dollaway at the finale to win the title of The Ultimate Fighter. Cellulitis and a broken clavicle kept him out of competition for over a year. Unfortunately, his return to the octagon was a disappointment to Sadollah and the crowd .

Sadollah and Johny Hendricks both looked strong at the start of the fight. Sadollah stalked the UFC freshman, possibly a bit too early in the fight. Hendricks caught the TUF winner with an uppercut, dropping him to his knees. Capitalizing, Hendricks hammered at Sadollah until the fight was called to a halt by referee Dan Mirgliotti.

In my personal opinion, it appeared that Sadollah, though in trouble, was trying to get back to his feet. He did not look finished. This had all the makings of a premature stoppage where Sadollah should have been given the opportunity to work his way out of the danger. That being said, I hope to see a rematch in the future.

Silva vs. Griffin

In a much anticipated match up, Middleweight champion Anderson Silva faced former Light Heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin in a 205 pound contest. Griffin, though losing his only title defense, was still the more popular coming into the octagon. In comparison, Silva, who has been criticized for phoning in his last two lack-luster wins, received a much cooler reception.

Clipped early in the first, Forrest Griffin found himself in trouble early. Frustrating his larger opponent with showboating and strange angles, Silva bated Griffin to stalk him. Falling into his habitual brawler style, Griffin did just that, throwing all of his momentum into the chase. Missing with a string of wild straight punches, Silva stepped out of the way, tapping the LHW on the chin, dropping the LHW with the jab.

Penn vs. Florian

Hungry and stronger than ever, Kenny Florian entered the cage with bad intentions to steal away the lightweight belt of “The Prodigy,” BJ Penn. Penn, fueled by his inability to defeat Georges St-Pierre in any weight class, had no plans of allowing that to happen.

Florian fired first with a headkick but was rocked by BJ’s right hand. Florian ate a vicious knee but, unlike Sean Sherk, survived. KenFlo’s chin was tested again in the second but returned with a pair of unchecked leg kicks.

In the 4th round, Florian, taking a page from GSP’s book, pressed Penn against the cage in an effort to wind the champion. Not having GSP’s physicality, Florian wasn’t able to hold the pressure. Penn put Florian on his back with a double leg takedown. After passing Florian’s guard, Penn pounded the challenger, forcing him to give up his back. Taking advantage, Penn quickly sunk a deep rear naked choke to remain lightweight champion.

It was good to see the two champions represented in this event were back in the mental game. Both could easily be accused of becoming complacent but this night proved they found their competitive spirits. While the knock-out suffered by Forrest Griffin was nothing if not bizaare, the TKO handed to Amir Sadollah was just plain saddening. While Griffin and Sodallah will live to fight in the UFC again, it’s uncertain if the same can be said for Kendall Grove.

Now Aaroyo will take his chances at upsetting the “MJ” Express.

Aaroyo has a record of 20-9-1 with four knockouts and has faced his share of world champion, challengers and undefeated opponents.

Aaroyo has never been stopped as he even took Knockout Artist and former world champion Randall Bailey the distance while dropping a close decision in 2006.

In the co-feature one-time Super Middleweight contender Jerson Ravelo (19-4, 12 KO’s) looks to get back in the win column when he takes on Willis Lockett (12-8-5, 5 KO’s)

In an interesting Jr. Welterweight bout, Ronald Cruz (5-0, 3 KO’s) takes on the rough Julias Edmonds (5-4) of Philadelphia.

in a Jr. Middleweight affair, Jamal Davis (9-5, 6 KO’s) takes on the durable Manuel Guzman (6-7-1, 2 KO’s)

There will be three other preliminary bouts that will feature undefeated Lightweight Frankie Trader (5-0, 2 KO’s) and Atlantic City’s own Osnel Charles (1-0) in separate bouts.
