Team KZ showcases top prospects

LAS VEGAS (August 4, 2009) – Team KZ is much more than its undisputed leader, unbeaten light heavyweight Beibut Shumenov, who challenges World Boxing Association light heavyweight champion Gabriel “Chico Guapo” Campillo, August 15th at the Sport Complex “Daulet” National Tennis Center in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The Aug. 15th show will be presented by KZ Event Productions, owned and operated by the Shumenov brothers, Beibut and Chingis, in association with Sampson Boxing, LLC.

Two Team KZ members, 4-time Uzbekistan National amateur champion Gayrat Ahmedov and Uzbekistan light middleweight Ravshan Hudayaynazarov, will be showcased on the August 15th card.

“We’re building our promotional company to compete with the best in the business,” Chingis said. “My brother’s success has brought a lot of positive attention to KZ Event Productions and we’ve been able to sign some great prospects like Gayrat and Ravshan. We’re very excited to have them both in our stable of future champions. They both fought on our last show. We’re also evaluating talent all over the world to sign more outstanding prospects.”

Ahmedov (11-0-1, 7 KOs) fights former Eastern & Central African titlist Douglas “Daggy” Otieno (19-1, 9 KOs) in the 12-round co-feature for the vacant PABA and WBO Asia Pacific light heavyweight titles, recently relinquished by Beibut Shumenov.

Hudayaynazarov (8-0, 5 KOs), 2007 World Military Games gold medalist, fights 42-pro fight veteran, ex-Kenyan title-holder Joseph Joseph “Mish” Miyumo (30-7-5, 17 KOs), in a 6-round bout.

2004 Kazakhstan Olympian Shumenov (8-0, 6 KOs), reigning International Boxing Association title-holder, takes on slick Spanish southpaw, Campillo (18-2, 6 KOs), who won the WBA title in June as a decisive underdog, taking the WBA crown from Argentinean favorite and defending title-holder, Hugo Hernan Garay (32-3).

The 25-year-old Shumenov will make history if he defeats Campillo in his ninth pro fight, eight less than the fewest ever for a world light heavyweight champion, Michael Spinks (17). Now living and training in Las Vegas, Kazak star Beibut is currently rated No. 9 by the WBA.

WBO light welterweight champion DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley (34-11, 20 KOs) continues his comeback in an 8-round bout versus “Jessie” James Kimori (11-1, 7 KOs).

Also scheduled to fight on the undercard against opponents to be determined is Philadelphia light welterweight Karl Dargan (4-0) and a pair of pro debuting Kazaks, super featherweight Abzal Adambaev and heavyweight Doszhan Ospanov.

Cestus Fighter, “Da Bomb” George “Crushes” Gonzalez in Four on ESPN Under card!

On July 31, 2009, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida was the site for ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights” boxing series that was headlined by Julio “The Kidd” Diaz taking on the impressive looking young prospect Victor Cayo. The event was promoted by Seminole Warriors Boxing and proved to be another great night of super boxing action. The under card was loaded with enlivened young boxers that could very well be the future of the sport. Among those young charges was Cestus Management’s Super-Middleweight Don “Da’Bomb” George (17-0-1 w/15 kos) taking on rough Puerto Rican Emmanuel Gonzalez in a six round bout.

Things quickly heated up in the first round as “Da’Bomb” (167 pounds) came out sticking a powerful jab followed by a booming overhand right to the head of Gonzalez (166.25) which did not allow the Puerto Rican to find any kind of range or rhythm. The second and third rounds had some very rough and exciting toe to toe exchanges which saw Gonzalez attempt to up his aggression but was met head on by George who was throwing some hardcore leather in the form of jabs and overhand rights, followed by left hooks to the head that where clearly rattling Gonzalez by the end of the third round. The first thirty seconds of round four was red hot as George was connecting with hard shots to the head and body which where backing Gonzalez up and making him grimace. The end of the fight was sudden with George connecting with a bone crunching right hand to the solar plexus that stopped Gonzales in his tracks. The body shot dropped Gonzalez to his knees where the referee started the count; Gonzalez tried to get up but fell back down and was on all fours, causing the referee to stop the contest at fifty three seconds of round four. The fans erupted when “Da’Bomb” did his trademark celebratory back flip.

“We are now one more step closer to being serious players in our weight division”, said Gina Iacovou, who is Cestus Management’s CEO. “(Emmanuel) Gonzalez was a good gage as he has been in there with some very strong respectable opposition, Donovan really showed that he is on his way and ready for us to move him into the next level.”

Mike Michael, who is Cestus’ chief adviser, said, “It was a very solid win for Donovan as Gonzalez is notoriously known for being a real tough kid. He (Gonzalez) really took some hellacious shots and Donovan showed that he is a viscous power puncher that has a granite chin with the heart of a lion and has an explosive big punching exciting fighting style which is what fans want to see”. ” Michael added, “We are now ready to step up to the next level and establish Donovan George’s presence by the end of 2009 “. New England Boxing Promoters Burchfield and Cappiello join forces

PROVIDENCE (Aug. 3, 2009) – Longtime New England boxing promoters, Jimmy Burchfield and Rich Cappiello, have joined forces and pooled their resources under Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc. (CES) banner.

Burchfield, operating out of Providence (RI) for the past quarter-century, and the Brockton (MA)-based Cappiello have been the two most dominant boxing promoters in New England for the past 15 years.

“Rich has a great talent for evaluating, signing and moving prospects,” Burchfield said. “Fighter development will be one of his primary responsibilities and he’ll help strengthen CES in many ways. You don’t know how this boxing business works unless you’ve done it and you’ve paid your dues. Rich has done all of that for years. He knows what it takes. We both believe in this move. Rich has developed a lot of valuable relationships that will help CES.

“We want to expand our market to include Philadelphia, New Jersey, parts of New York, and all of New England. The bottom line is filling up arenas. To do so, we must give fans more value for their entertainment dollar, which is more important than ever in these trying times. Pooling our resources like this makes so much sense. Everybody involved in CES is supporting this move because it strengthens our position.

“What we’re doing is a good example of what was discussed at the recent Boxing Promoters Association. We want to be one of the strongest promoters in the country and, to do that, we have to work with each other. We already have a strong team and it’s even stronger now with the addition of Rich Cappiello. You can’t buy his experience in this business.”

Cappiello, who also owns a gym in Brockton, wanted to go in another direction. “In today’s bad economic times,” he said, “working together makes a lot of sense. It makes both of us stronger. I’m confident that this will be a permanent relationship. I talked about doing this with some other promoters, but I know that Jimmy was the best fit. We competed, as promoters, but there were no vendettas. I’m a New Englander and I feel better working with somebody who has worked here for so long and I can meet with by just driving a few miles.

“The economics of boxing are so different today that it’s become difficult to survive. Other guys are coming into New England, but, working together, we will be able to dominate this area. For me, it’s basically a merger, but it’s still CES. I just want to build champions and I can be much more effective doing that this way. We’ve discussed this for a while, not just once or twice. I still have about 15 fighters under contract, including some good young talent that will eventually fight for CES. I see myself doing different things for CES. I’ll be concentrating on things such as fighter development instead of being involved with all aspects of running the business. It’s going to be a process, but we’re going to make a good team.”

No Biloxi Blues for “Captain Hook”

Jones-Lacy headlines Aug. 15 “Hook City” PPV in Biloxi

BILOXI, Miss. (August 3, 2009) – Living legend Roy “Captain Hook” Jones, Jr. is a Pensacola icon and 100 miles down the Gulf Coast in Biloxi, where he headlines the August 15th “Hook City” pay per view against former 2-time world champion Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy, the 8-time world champion is unbeaten in three previous fights there and nearly as popular as he is back home.

The “Hook City” pay-per-view show, headlined by two of the best left-hook punchers in boxing, Jones, Jr. (53-5, 39 KOs) and Lacy (25-2, 17 KOs), will air live from the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi.

The “Hook City” pay-per-view show, presented by Square Ring Promotions in association with Left Hook Promotions and Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, is being distributed by Square Ring Promotions, Inc. at 9:00PM ET/6:00PM PT in the United States on cable and satellite via iNDemand, TVN, DirecTV and Dish Network for a suggested retail price of $34.95, as well as on Super Channel in Canada.

Biloxi is only about a 1-1/2 hour drive from Jones’ home in Pensacola; call it his second home. Back in 1998, Jones successfully won his Biloxi debut in the Coast Coliseum against Virgil “Quicksilver” Hill, who by then had won three of his eventual eight world titles, when Jones’ devastating, lethal right hook to Hill’s body led to the referee stopping the fight in the fourth round.

A year later at another Biloxi venue, Jones defended his WBC and WBA light heavyweight title belts in convincing fashion, defeating IBF title-holder Reggie Johnson in their unification match by way of a lopsided 12-round decision.

In 2007, once again fighting in the Coast Coliseum, RJJ captured the IBC light heavyweight crown, completely dominating 12 rounds for the decision against previously unbeaten Anthony Hanshaw (21-0-1), who was being hyped as the next great 175-pounder.

Lacy, who has never fought professionally in Mississippi or anywhere else on the Gulf Coast, plans to ruin Jones’ Biloxi “homecoming” and out-hook one of the sport’s all-time greatest “hookers” in the process.

Australian import Danny “Green Machine” Green (26-3, 23 KOs), former 2-time world champion, presently rated No. 5 by the WBA, meets South American champion Julio Cesar “La Furia” Dominguez (20-4-1, 14 KOs) in the 12-round co-feature for the vacant IBO cruiserweight championship.

Top lightweight prospect Verquan “The Show” Kimbrough (21-1-2, 7 KOs faces former world title challenger, Jason “American Boy” Litzau (24-2, 20 KOs), in a 10-round Special Attraction.

Also scheduled to fight on the PPV telecast is undefeated NABO cruiserweight champion BJ “El Peligroso” Flores (23-0-1, 14 KOs) versus an opponent to be determined.
