PHILADELPHIA (June 24, 2009)—On July 8th at the FOX & HOUND ON 1501 Spruce Street in Philadelphia, There will be a major press conference in conjunction to one of the biggest boxing shows in Philadelphia that will take place two nights later at The Arena in South Philadelphia.

THE PRESS CONFERENCE WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

The show is promoted by Blaine Garner’s Shalyte Entertainment in association with Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment Sports (CES).

In the main event, which will be televised by ESPN 2, Matt Godfrey will be defending his NABF Cruiserweight title against the undefeated Shawn Hawk.

The co-feature will pit Shaun George taking on Chris Henry in an important Light Heavyweight bout. This bout is co-promoted with DiBella Entertainment.

In addition to those two bouts there will be nine undercard bouts which will include the WBF All America’s Light Heavyweight title between Tony Ferrante and Billy Bailey. There will be a Jr. Middleweight bout between Derek Ennis and John Mackey in addition to two ladies bouts featuring Olivia Fonseca and Jackie Davis plus undefeated Coy Evans and Issac Suarez in separate bouts

(PRESS RELEASE) — King of Champions, the top MMA promotion in Colorado, today announced the complete card for its exciting mixed martial arts (MMA) event, “NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS.” This event features fighters from some of the top fight camps in the Western United States, including Xtreme Couture, Team Quest, and the TapouT Training Center. Headlining the card is current WEC fighter Danny Martinez (12-3) taking on local rising star Nick Honstein (5-1) for the King of Champions Bantamweight Championship, and in the co-main event, Alicia Gumm, the wife of UFC veteran Brad Gumm, will battle with Lacey Shuckman in a bout contested at 115 lbs. WEC fighter Danny Martinez is a tough veteran known for finishing his fights. His only career losses have come against tough up-and-comer Adrian Wooley, UFC/WEC/Affliction veteran Mark Hominick, and current WEC shooting star (and Urijah Faber protégé) Joseph Benavidez. He has brought a decisive end to 9 of his 12 opponents, and his losses have come only by decision. He wants to prove that he belongs in the big leagues, but standing in his way is tough local product Nick Honstein, who is determined to topple the challenge provided by Martinez, and show that he is the one that should be climbing the mountain. This is an important fight for both athletes, and will be hotly-contested.

King of Champions prides itself on bringing in some of the best fighters in the United States, and from some of the best camps out there. Three Team Quest fighters are scheduled to appear, as well as a combatant from both the Xtreme Couture and TapouT Training Center fight teams. In short, KOC is determined not to recycle the same local fighters show after show, but is committed to developing the local talent through challenging them. Molitor and Ruiz Each Eyeing Victory at Rumble at Rama VIII

Both Fighters Expecting Fireworks for IBF Eliminator this Friday

TORONTO, ON (Wednesday, June 24, 2009) – Former IBF Junior Featherweight World Champion, “The Canadian Kid” Steve Molitor (28-1, 11 KO’s) and Mexico’s Heriberto Ruiz (41-7-2, 23 KO’s) met with the media Wednesday for the final time prior to their IBF eliminator for the number two position Friday night, in the Main Event of Rumble at Rama VIII, set for Casino Rama, in Rama, Ontario.

Molitor, who is looking to put his last fight, a fourth round TKO loss to Panamanian Celestino Caballero, behind him, stated categorically that fans should expect to see the fighter that defended the IBF world title five times, and not the man who lost it to Caballero.

“I’m coming into this fight ready to show the world that I’m back to being one of the best pure boxers in the world,” Molitor said.

“I’m slick, fast, pretty, and smart, and I’m going to dominate Ruiz like I dominated everybody before Caballero, and that’s by winning every minute of every round.”

But while Molitor sounds more than confident about his chances Friday night, Ruiz has been put to the test numerous times in his career, and has usually passed with flying colours.

The native of Los Mochis, Mexico holds unanimous decision wins over leading Junior Featherweight contender Rey Bautista, reigning IBF Featherweight champion Cristobal Cruz, and this past March secured his stool opposite Molitor with a twelve round unanimous decision over Mauricio Martinez in the main event of Rumble at Rama VII.

“I’ve had a great camp preparing for Molitor,” Ruiz told the assembled media at Toronto’s Delta Chelsea Hotel.

“Molitor is a great fighter, but I’m much better prepared now than I was for Martinez. On Friday you are going to see a new, better contender then you’ve ever seen from me before.”

Allan Tremblay, President of Orion Sports Management, Molitor’s promoter, thinks that the time his charge has spent away from the ring since losing his belt to Caballero last November has been more than well spent.

“We’re delighted to have Steve back, hungrier than ever,” Tremblay said.

“He’s got a new son, new wife, new home, and some much needed rest for the first time in years. He’s a fresh, new fighter, with fresh new inspiration to pick up where he left off before the Caballero fight.”

Jeff Craik, Vice President Marketing for Casino Rama, was equally effusive about Molitor’s ring return.

“It’s great to have Steve back where he belongs, headlining yet another great card at Casino Rama,” Craik said.

Iraqi War Veteran Woody Weatherby carrying NH MMA on back against Everson in ASC pro MMA debut show

SALEM, New Hampshire (June 23, 2009) – When U.S. Navy veteran Woody “The Dynasty” Weatherby (7-1-0) enters the cage July 31 to fight Lance Everson (11-6-0) in the main event on the inaugural American Steel Cagefighting (ASC) professional mixed martial arts show, Nashua resident Weatherby will be fighting for all of New Hampshire’s MMA fans, fighters and clubs.

ASC is promoting an explosive 10-fight card July 31 at the Icenter in Salem, New Hampshire.

Weatherby, born in Tacoma (WA), has lived in Nashua for the past 14 years. He represents Renzo Gracie NH, out of Derry (NH), where he earned a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to complement his boxing skills learned and developed in the Navy. Woody spent 4-years active duty in the Navy, including two stints fighting in the Iraq War on a ship, serving as a search-and-rescue swimmer and operations specialist.

“I was privileged to serve and the Navy matured me enough to handle MMA, plus I boxed in the Navy,” the Hillsboro County correction officer said. “I really want to put New Hampshire on the MMA map, big-time. Massachusetts has Kenny Florian and Joe Lauzon; Maine has Marcus Davis (all well known UFC fighters). I want to be like that for New Hampshire. When I go into the ring or cage, I bring the whole state with me.”

Weatherby has been an MMA fighter for five years, starting right out as a pro, and his fight against Everson is a classic match-up of contrasting style MMA fighters. “I’m now an established grappler,” Weatherby explained, “but I know I have good hands with knockout power in both. I like to ground-and-pound, too. But I’m a fighter who likes to brawl. He’s going to try and throw me down and then use his ground-and-pound game. My plan is to make it a stand-up fight and make him pay every time he shoots. I know I can submit him if we go down, but I won’t be surprised if he stands and I knock him out. He’s a good fighter and sometimes he likes to bang, but then he’ll try a takedown, like Matt Hughes’ style. I’ll make him eat a jab, right, and then another jab. When he comes in close,, I’ll use an uppercut. I hope he stands and fights.”

The co-feature pits IFL veteran Nate “The Future” Lamotte (10-4-0), of Manchester (NH), against troublesome Doug “Flash” Gordon (9-7-0). The Super Fight is a match between a paIr of former UFC fighters, super heavyweight Kevin “The Shamnan” Jordan (11-8-0) and UFC pioneer Patrick Smith (16-13-0).

Also scheduled to fight on the ASC card is undefeated New York lightweight Pat Audinwood (7-0-0) vs. “Mr. Big” Al Buck (6-7-0), former Cage Fury Fighting champion; lightweight Damien “The Omen” Trites (2-3-0) vs. Joe Dechaves (3-1-0); pro debuting featherweights Al Germain Sterling vs. Albert Reccio; welterweight Carlos Nieves (3-6-0) vs. Ryan Schieding (3-1-0); Worcester featherweight Evan Parker (1-0-0), Boston welterweight Aaron McKenna in his pro debut, and Boston middleweight John Clark (7-2-0) against opponents to be determined.
