On May 2, 2009, the best pound-for-pound prime filipino sensation Welterweight Champ “Manny Pacquaio” will defend his title against, a British Brawler turn “Boxer” or in the words of Floyd Mayweather, Sr. (the Italian Stallion) “Ricky Hatton” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on HBO’s PPV.
Ricky will win. The success of Ricky will be depending on how effective he utilize the jab to the head & body of Manny, disrupting speed and timing. Manny has had a lot of distractions during training camp and hasn’t looked as focused and hungry as in the past.
Ricky currently being trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr., looks to be in the best shape of his career and looks more hungry than ever. With Mayweather Sr., at the helm of the Hatton Camp, Ricky has been able to develop a lot more skills and understanding of the art and sweet science of boxing.
Before the last fight (Oscar De La Hoya), Manny looked more determined, humble, hungry, focused and had less disruptions during Training Camp but, this time he looks more focus on his image than as a determined fighter out to prove why he’s the best pound-for-pound champ in the world.
Also, adding Assistant Trainer Michael Moore to the camp of Manny Pacquiao has given him another ear to listen in training camp which could have it’s disadvantages.
Floyd Mayweather, Sr., stated that they will have some surprises early on for Manny Pacquiao if they expect to fight the old British Brawler Ricky Hatton, becoming aggressive and utilizing speed to hamper and confuse Ricky.
We believe the keys to this fight for Ricky will be the use of the Double Jab to Manny’s Head and Body. Make the Champ fight backwards and on his heels, Hatton with more Head Movement, disrupting speed with the jab, will feint, pretend to left hook the body, which occasionally he will follow through with to keep Pacquaio honest, will turn that left hook body shot into a uppercut, Pacquaio will try moving to the right and will be greeted by a hook and uppercut. Manny will be forced to fight a well-trained boxer instead of the old Brawler we come to know of Ricky Hatton.
Prediction is Hatton will win with a late round TKO or stoppage around the 8-10 round devasting Pacquaio with the jab and uppercut, head movements and speed of Hatton, taking the title from the once best pound-for-pound fighter now branded product known as “Manny Pacquiao”.

Worlds are about to collide! When Manny Pacquiao started out as a 106 lb fighter in 1995, nobody thought the Pilipino fighter would become the “biggest” man in boxing. But he achieved that status in 2008. He has grown into a phenomenal competitor and a legend in his home country. Ricky Hatton has always been popular in his native England but over the last few years, he has become a world-recognized figure. There is more at stake this weekend than Hatton’s IBO 140 lb title. Pacquiao wants to prove he is the #1 boxer in the world. Hatton wants to knock him from that perch. National pride is on the line when Worlds Collide!

STYLE
Pacquiao: Pacquiao boxes from a southpaw stance, moving forward bobbing and feinting his way in. Once in close, he uses his right hand to find the range and then unleashes his powerful left, either straight or looping, and will often double and triple it to the body and head. Has soundly developed under the tutelage of Freddie Roach, developing a decent right hook, either as a lead punch or thrown behind the left. Uses quick head shifts to slip punches while moving forward.
Hatton: A pure pressure fighter who makes each bout a war of attrition. Likes to get right in his opponents chest and maul on the inside, clutching, brawling, and winging strength-sapping body shots with both hands. Once the opponent is worn down, he is a very good finisher. With such a wide-open attack, his offense serves as his best defense. Since he started training with Floyd Mayweather Sr., he has employed his jab more and being a better defensive fighter. He can be hit on the way in but is willing to take two punches to land one of his own.
STRENGTHS
Pacquiao: * Unorthodox Style – Pacquiao is very unorthodox, even for a southpaw. He moves straight in but is hard to time with his bobbing and head feints. Before most opponents can time his onrushes, he is inside throwing punches like a buzzsaw.
* Speed – Pacquiao is quick and agile and his hands are deceptively quick. He throws quick one-two combinations and will force opponents on the defensive.
* Stamina – Pacquiao fights just as hard in the last round as he does in the beginning. He applies a lot of pressure and is constantly punching, wearing opponents down in the process.
Hatton: * Body Attack – Once on the inside, Hatton cranks out punishing body shot after punishing body shot. Any part of the torso, including arms, shoulders, and hips are relentlessly pounded until the hands come down.
* Aggression – Hatton attacks from the opening bell. Always in tremendous shape, he doesn’t give his opponent a second to breathe. In conjunction with his body attack, Hatton’s aggressiveness will leave an opponent both physically and psychologically beaten.
* Passion – For the last several years, Hatton has been a iconic figure in his native England. He yearns to reach that status in the United States and is willing to fight his heart out to get there.
WEAKNESSES
Pacquiao: * Trouble with Boxers – Pacquiao is at his best when in against opponents who stand in front of him and try to trade as he usually overwhelms them. But he has had difficulties against good boxers, especially Juan Manuel Marquez, who was able to clearly outbox Pacquiao for extended periods in their two encounters.
* Cuts – Pacquiao has contended with cuts and scar tissue throughout his career. He was cut badly by headbutts in his fight with Agapito Sanchez and also in his first fight with Erik Morales. His fragile skin is always a potential liability.
* Distractions – Pacquiao is a popular celebrity in his native Philippines, even running for political office there. Keeping him focused and disciplined between bouts has often been a challenge for his team.
Hatton: * Balance – When pressing the action, Hatton has a bad habit of stepping in with his back foot, squaring himself up and giving his opponent a wide open target to hit, which could be disastrous against a Paquiao’s sizzling lefts.
* Skin – Like many English fighters over the years, Hatton has to deal with soft skin. He has been susceptible to facial cuts and bruises, most notably in his fight with Luis Collazo, where Hatton suffered severe swelling to his eyes.
* Lifestyle – Hatton has a bad habit of overindulging in the party scene between fights, often allowing his weight to significantly increase, earning him the nickname of “Ricky Fatton”.
PREVIOUS BOUT
Pacquiao: Solidified his standing as the #1 Pound-for-Pound boxer in the world by dominating the Oscar De la Hoya, a multiple-time world champion and future Hall-of-Famer. Pacquiao utilized his advantage in speed to overwhelm a weight-drained De la Hoya, forcing a stoppage after eight rounds.
Hatton: Showed increased boxing skills in a dominant win over world-ranked Paulie Malinaggi. Hatton buckled Malinaggi with a right hand in the 2nd round, and was able to beat him in all facets of the game, outboxing and outslugging him and forcing Malinaggi’s corner to throw in the towel in the 11th round.
3 BEST PERFORMANCES
Pacquiao: * Oscar De la Hoya (12/06/08) – Pacquiao stole the show from “The Golden Boy.” 90% of polled experts had picked De la Hoya to win in a landslide. It was a landslide but it was Pacquiao dishing out the beating, ripping De la Hoya apart with both hands. After eight one-sided and brutal rounds, a swollen and bloodied De la Hoya was beaten into permanent retirement.
* Juan Manuel Marquez (3/15/08) – The consensus two best fighters in boxing had fought to a split draw four years earlier and the rematch was long awaited. Marquez had success when he was able to box and out-maneuver Pacquiao. But Pac-man’s power surfaced, flooring Marquez hard in the 3rd round and landing the harder punches throughout. On the strength of the knockdown, it was Pacquiao winning the split decision by a single point.
* Marco Antonio Barrera (11/15/03) – Little was known about Pacquiao when he stepped into face the legendary Barrera. After 11 rounds, much was known about Pacquiao as he marched forward and punished Barrera with scorching left hands, finally overwhelming and stopping him.
Hatton: * Kostya Tszyu (6/4/05) – Even though the bout was in Hatton’s native England, many figured the long-reigning champion, Tszyu, would handle the upstart challenger and retain his title. Hatton smothered Tszyu from the opening bell, never giving him the range he needed to unleash his offense. The pressure gradually sapped the strength and resolve of the aging champion, forcing him to surrender on his stool after the 11th round.
* Jose Luis Castillo (6/23/07) – While it was generally regarded that Castillo was on the decline, his epic wars with Diego Corrales were still fresh in people’s minds and there was some doubt if Hatton could deal with the power-punching Mexican. But Hatton ran through him, making Castillo look like a shot fighter, punishing him to the body and finishing matters with one crushing blow to the liver, putting Castillo down for the count in the 4th round.
* Mike Stewart (10/1/04) – Before he was a contestant on “The Contender Season 2”, Stewart was an up-and-coming prospect. Hatton made his trip across the Atlantic a painful one, flooring Stewart twice before the bout was stopped in Round 5. When asked if his nose was broken, Stewart responded saying he “felt like a lot of things were broken.”
QUESTIONS
Pacquiao: * Will he be overconfident coming into this bout?
* Is he strong enough to muscle Hatton on the inside?
* Will he become frustrated with Hatton’s mauling tactics?
Hatton: * Will he revert back to his face-first brawling ways?
* Does he have the speed to match Pacquiao?
* Will his hard-partying lifestyle finally slow him down?
PENECALE PREDICTION
Hatton will start out using more lateral movement and jabbing, trying to use angles to negate Pacquiao’s rushes. Pacquiao will come forward looking for an opening for his left hand. Hatton will step side to side and then try to engage Pacquiao, attacking his body and mauling on the inside. Pacquiao will try to keep his hands free from Hatton’s clutching and throwing looping lefts and uppercuts.
Pacquiao’s advantage in hand speed will show as early as the 2nd round as he will start firing left hands down the middle. Hatton will be much spryer that De la Hoya was and he will be willing and able to engage Pac-man in the exchanges. Much to the displeasure of Floyd Sr., Hatton will abandon his boxing strategy go iron-for-iron with Pacquiao.
By the 4th round, the bout will be fought in close quarters. It will be Pacquiao’s speed versus Hatton’s strength. Pac-man will lead with his right hook and fire multiple lefts to the head and body as Hatton advances. Hatton will absorb punishment on the way in but his pride and resolve will walk him through the punishment as he continues to fire wide punches to Paquiao’s ribs and torso.
Pacquiao’s rapid fire offense will begin to take its toll on Hatton’s face and signs of swelling and discoloration will be evident around both of Hatton’s eyes by the mid rounds and blood will be seeping from his nose. As the fight continues to swing towards Pacquiao, Hatton will revert more to what brought him to the dance and will charge in face-first hoping to overwhelm and break down the smaller man. He will have periods of success backing Pacquiao up, but most of Hatton’s rushes will be met with flurries of quick and hurtful punches.
Pacquiao will be in solid control by the 8th round, sharpshooting Hatton with straight lefts to the face and right hooks to the head. Hatton’s right eye will closed and his left eye will also be impaired. Hatton will be backing up by this point. After another one-side round in the 9th, referee Kenny Bayless will consult with the doctor in Hatton’s corner. Mayweather will send Hatton out for the 10th round but essentially he will be spent by that stage. A hard right hook followed by a pair of sizzling left hands will buckle Hatton’s knees and send him stumbling in the corner where Pacquiao will pounce, reigning left hands forcing Bayless to jump in and stop the fight.
The winner by TKO at 1:45 of the 10th round is MANNY PACQUIAO!!!

Middleweight Brawl Will Precede Lawler vs. Shields Main Event

NEW YORK (April 27, 2009)–Fresh off their respective thrilling wins, the versatile Nick Diaz (19-7) and knockout artist Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith (17-5) are eager to get back in the cage. The pair will square off on Saturday, June 6, in a special 180-pound showdown during the live SHOWTIME® telecast of Strikeforce: “Lawler vs. Shields” from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo.
“I think this is a great fight for me, but I really hate that (Smith) brings his kids to every one of his fights because now I’m going to be made out to be the bad guy or some sort of villain after I beat him up,” said the 25-year-old Diaz, who shocked the MMA world with his complete dominance of four-time world champion Frank Shamrock in the Strikeforce main event on SHOWTIME from HP Pavilion in San Jose on Saturday, April 11. “At the end of the day, I’m going to do what I have to do though and take him out.”
Against Shamrock, Diaz demonstrated his versatility. The Gracie Jiu Jitsu black belt spent the majority of the match trading strikes—and getting the better of the exchanges. Known for his prowess on the mat, Diaz is also a professional boxer.
Known for his outstanding endurance, Diaz just completed a 5K race and will compete in an upcoming triathlon near his hometown in Stockton, Calif., in order to prepare for what could be a marathon slugfest in the cage with Smith.
Earlier on the “Shamrock vs. Diaz” fight card, the 29-year-old Smith prevailed in a brutal and action-packed fight that surely will be candidate for 2009 Fight of the Year. The thrilling, seesaw battle with middleweight Benji “The Razor” Radach ended when Smith landed one monstrous punch in the middle of the third round.
“I’m pretty much 100 percent right now, other than some stitches I have that are tender,” said Smith, who returned to training on Monday, April 13, two days after his victory.
“I usually take a few weeks off, get out of shape and go up to about 210 pounds and wind up spending a few weeks just getting back in shape,” he said, “but I decided I wasn’t going to do that this time. I’m 195 pounds right now and I feel great.”
With 15 of his 17 wins having come by way of knockout, Smith, a Muay Thai specialist, has lived up to his nickname. To prepare adequately for Diaz’s grappling capabilities, Smith will work with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Ricardo Barros.
“Diaz is a great fighter,” acknowledged Smith. “He’s going to come in there and out grapple me and out strike me so what I have to do is go in there and beat him up. I actually think this is more of a dangerous fight for him than it is for me.”

Rising Star Daniel Jacobs Added to May 2nd Mega Fight After Scoring an Impressive 2nd Round Knockout Saturday Night
LOS ANGELES (April 27, 2009) – Rising middleweight star and one of boxing’s hottest prospects, Daniel “The Golden Child” Jacobs, has been added to the much anticipated May 2nd pay-per-view undercard of Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton: “The Battle of East and West” at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The highly touted prospect will be featured in the third of four pay-per-view undercard bouts against former two-time world amateur champion Mike Walker.
After an impressive second round knockout victory over Jose Varela this past weekend on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, which garnered a SportsCenter Top Ten (#6) for all of Friday’s sports action, Jacobs quickly accepted the opportunity to fight on back-to-back weekends and showcase his talents for the soldout May 2nd crowd while also appearing on live television around the world.
“I’m very excited that I have the opportunity to fight again this week,” said Jacobs. “I’m in shape and coming off a big knockout win, so I’m ready for the fight with Walker. It’s an honor for me to get this type of exposure on the undercard of the year’s biggest card. I promise that no one will be disappointed with my performance on May 2nd.”

Brooklyn native Daniel Jacobs, (15-0, 14 KO’s) is arguably the most exciting prospect climbing the ranks in boxing today. He has impressed the boxing world with his speed and his sensational knockout power, ending 12 of his 15 professional bouts in two rounds or less. The former Two-Time National Golden Gloves Champion and U.S. Amateur Champion turned pro in December of 2007 and has not skipped a beat since.
Mike Walker (19-1-2, 12 KO’s) from Chicago, returns to the ring after defeating two-time world title challenger Antwun Echols on October 3, 2008 in an 8 round bout. Walker was originally scheduled to fight highly rated junior middleweight contender James Kirkland who was forced to withdraw from the bout.
The rest of the pay-per-view undercard features World Boxing Council (WBC) Super Featherweight Champion Humberto Soto of Mexico who will defend his title against Canadian contender Benoit Gaudet, former two-time world amateur champion and Russian Olympian Matt Korobov facing Rodrigo Aguiar of Las Vegas in a middleweight bout and former world amateur champion, Cuban southpaw Erislandy Lara against Chris Gray of Baton Rouge, Louisiana in a junior middleweight bout.
Pacquiao vs. Hatton “The Battle of East and West,” presented by Rockstar Energy Drink and promoted by Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, in association with MP Promotions and Hatton Promotions, is a 12-round bout for Hatton’s IBO and Ring Magazine World Junior Welterweight titles. The fight is also sponsored by Cerveza Tecate and Southwest Airlines. Baltic Boxing Union title fights
BBU Light Welterweight title:
On the 4th April there was a fight for vacant BBU Light Welterweight championship title between Finnish Jaakko Myllylä and Russian Andrey Devyataykin. These two boxers made a well-paced 8 rounds fight in front of approximately 400 spectators. Younger Myllylä was a bit in command most rounds but very experienced former Russian Lightweight champion Devyataykin was a game opponent for Myllylä with his difficult style. After a close opening round Myllylä was following rounds a bit sharper than his opponent until Devyataykin made his best performance during the middle rounds. Finally Myllylä confirmed his victory with some good punches and by being more active in late rounds. Late of the last round cash of heads opened a cut in Myllylä´s upper part of forehead but it was too late to help Devyataykin to turn the fight back for him. The new new champion with scores 80-72, 78-75, 78-77 is Jaakko Myllylä . With the victory Myllylä improved to 8 (2 KO) – 0 – 0.
BBU International Light Welterweight title: On the 18th April at Lublin Poland there was a combined amateur and professional boxing show with the main event for vacant BBU International Light Welterweight title between #15 ranked Lukasz Maciec (POL) and #18 ranked Konstantins Sakara (LAT). Lublin based young and talented Maciec was in control in this fight but durable and more experienced Sakara gave a good opponent in every round, but it was too little to stop Maciec to keep his undefeated record. With unanimous decision victory Maciec took his pro career´s first title. With the victory Maciec improved to 6 (2 KO) – 0 – 0.
BBU Middleweight title: On the 24th April at Jaroslaw Poland there was a pro boxing show promoted by O´Chikara Gmitruk Team. At the co-main event Mariusz Cendrowski (reigning BBU International Middleweight champion and #1 ranked challenger for BBU title) fought against Finnish veteran Kai Kauramäki. After Cendrowski had taken early rounds, “Ironman” Kauramäki started to press more his Polish opponent. When the eight and last round was starting Cendrowski (now 17 (7 KO) – 2 – 1)was closely ahead on points. The durable and well-fit Finnish warrior was although able still to press more and when Cendrowski injured his elbow, Kauramäki was ruled to get victory over his well-merited opponent by TKO. With the victory, which are recognized as a slight upset, Kauramäki improved to 15 (5 KO) – 15 – 0.
BBU Welterweight title: There is an upcoming bout for vacant BBU Welterweight title scheduled for 8 rounds. The fight will take place at Moscow, Russia on the 30th April. The home boxer to compete for vacant title is Russian Roman Seliverstov who is currently ranked #2 at BBU Baltic Rankings. The another challenger is still TBA.
Other BBU news:
* The co-operation between BBU and WBF has ended on early March. The BBU Board has made the decision to end the co-operation with Australian-based World Boxing Foundation, WBF. Also WBF has agreed the decision. No drama included in this from either parties. After the change Baltic Boxing Union will continue its own way to develop Baltic area´s professional boxing.
* BBU Baltic Rankings has been published on early April. That ranking contains all those boxers who are eligible to participate in BBU Championship Bout. Boxers who are not ranked BBU Baltic Rankings but are among top European rankings do automatically have the right to make a challenge for BBU championship title. To check out the Ranking situation on April, please visit at http://balticboxingunion.com/champions.php .
* When publishing BBU Baltic Rankings as the main condition to be allowed to fight for BBU title, BBU Board has updated also some rules. The most important changes are:
? no more absolutely needed to have six (6) fights on boxer´s record to be alowe to fight for BBU title fight
? also such boxers who are licenced by some official national federation at BBU area can be listed at BBU Baltic Rankings and that way to participate in BBU title fights
? BBU International title fight can be scheduled either six (6) or eight (8) rounds
? Mandatory defense action for BBU Champions against #1 challenger or highest ranked available opponent at BBU Baltic Rankings after a successful voluntary title defense
