HOLLYWOOD, CALIF. (March 30, 2009) — When MANNY “Pacman” PACQUIAO and RICKY “Hitman” HATTON meet in “The Battle of East and West,” more than just Hatton’s IBO and Ring Magazine junior welterweight championship belts will be at stake. The ante will also include Pacquiao’s coveted title as boxing’s No. 1 pound for pound fighter. Simultaneously the stakes will be just as high for their respective trainers FREDDIE ROACH and FLOYD MAYWEATHER, Sr., acknowledged as the two best trainers in the game today.

The promotion commissioned a specially designed four-tier trophy, measuring over five feet in height, with the inscription “No. 1 Pound for Pound Best Trainer in the World,” to be presented to the trainer of the winning fighter. The trophy was unveiled to the trainers and international media covering this evening’s red carpet Hollywood premiere news conference for “The Battle of East and West,” at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, Calif., which hosted the very first Academy Awards eighty years ago.

Though “The Battle of East and West” isn’t scheduled to take place until May 2, the war of the words between the two trainers began in earnest the minute the fight was announced.

“They’ve got Roach in the Hall of Fame. He should be in the Hall of Shame,” said Mayweather. “Let’s tell the truth like it is, you see Freddie Roach training and you see me training, it’s night and day. Don’t even compare. Don’t even come close. Freddie Roach is a joke. And that’s why I say his name is “Freddie the Joke Coach Roach,” as far as I’m concerned.”

Roach, recently named 2008 Trainer of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America for an unprecedented third time has his own take on Mayweather.

“Floyd can read some good poems that’s all he’s good at that I know of. What has Floyd Senior achieved? His son’s a natural-born fighter. His brother Roger trained him anyway. Floyd never trained his son for a world title fight. He tells me he’s the greatest but what has he done? He trained Oscar De La Hoya after Oscar has already won four world titles. Floyd is a legend in his own mind.”

Pacquiao vs. Hatton “The Battle of East and West,” presented by Rockstar Energy Drink and promoted by Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, in association with MP Promotions and Hatton Promotions, is a 12-round bout for Hatton’s IBO and Ring Magazine World Junior Welterweight titles. Gee, who beat fellow Philly fighter Jameel Wilson on his last outing on 12th September ‘08, will be hoping to continue the one hundred percent success rate of Philadelphia’s premier training facility, The James Shuler Memorial Gym, in 2009 – NABA Light Heavyweight Champ, Yusaf Mack, added the NABF crown when he beat Chris Henry on the 6th February. This was followed by Jamaal ‘Da Truth’ Davis, who is better known as Tyson, beating Clarence Taylor on the 6th March and then just this past weekend, perhaps the most significant of victories, ‘Fast’ Eddie Chambers getting a well earned decision victory over former WBC Heavyweight World Champion Samuel Peter, which should earn him a chance to face one of the Klitschko brothers in the near future.

During a break in his preparations, under the watchful eyes of his trainer Percy ‘Buster’ Custus, Gee said. “I’ve been getting some great work in. Buster has stepped things up again and working me hard. Tyson’s been testing me hard, the sparring has been real good. I’m not sure who I’ll be fighting yet so have to mix it up. I’ll be ready for whoever it is.”

April 2nd at Michael’s Eighth Avenue.

Hill, 17-10-1 (10KO’s), has faced numerous world champions and contenders in his twelve year career including Jermain Taylor, Rico Hoye, Sebastien Demers, Prince Badi Ajamu, Maselino Masoe and most recently Travis Simms. In 2001, he scored a ninth round TKO of former junior middleweight champion David Reid.

Making his first appearance at Michael’s Eighth Avenue is undefeated featherweight sensation Matt “THE SHARP SHOOTER” Remillard.of Hartford, CT who will see action in a scheduled eight rounder against Minneapolis, MN native Hassan Wasswa.

Known for his all action, crowd pleasing style, Remillard, 16-0-0 (8KO’s), is amongst the finest young prospects in boxing. He is coming off a decision win over former world champion Mauricio Pastrana on November 13th in Providence, Rhode Island.

The 26 year old Tyrell Samuel, 11-2-1 (5KO’s), returns to Michael’s Eighth Avenue, following his outstanding ten round win over Ron Boyd on November 20th for the Maryland State Super Featherweight Title. Further information on his bout will be announced shortly.

In an eight round middleweight bout, Nigerian prospect Albert “THE PUNISHER” Onolunose will face Phoenix, Arizona native Anthony “THE POWER HOUSE” Bartinelli.

Onolunose, 16-0-0 with six knockouts, will be making his first local appearance. Last April he won an eight round decision over former contender Eduardo Sanchez in British Columbia, Canada. Bartinelli, 20-11-2 (13KO’s), is coming off an eight round war with former world title challenger Elvin Ayala in January at the Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas.

MCC 19 Hits Mediacom Channel Tonight, More MCC Vets On Spike TV Wednesday

Beibut Shumenov‘s KZ Event Productions signs prospect Gayratjon Ahmedov

LAS VEGAS (March 30, 2009) – KZ Event Productions, owned by world-rated light heavyweight contender Beibut Shumenov and his brother, Chingis, announced today that it has signed unbeaten Uzbekistan light heavyweight prospect Gayratjon Ahmedov to an exclusive promotional deal.

The 30-year-old Ahmedov (10-0-1, 6 KOs) was national amateur champion of Uzbekistan in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2001. He was a silver medalist at the Asian Games and bronze medal winner at the 2002 Boxing World Cup in Kazakhstan.

“We’re very excited to add a fighter of Gayratjon’s ability to our growing stable of future champions at KZ Event Productions,” Shumenov said. “He’s a devastating puncher who fans will love when they have an opportunity to watch him fight.”

Ahmedov, who has never fought as a pro outside of Asia and Europe, is scheduled to make his KZ Event debut May 9 on the undercard of an outdoor show, headlined by former Kazakhstan Olympian Shumenov (7-0, 5 KOs), at Khadjimukan Stadium in Chimkent, Kazakhstan.

Shumenov, the 2008 WBC Asian Boxing Council Organization’s Boxer of the Year, already holds three championship belts – WBC Asian Boxing Council, WBO Asia Pacific and PABA — and is rated No. 8 by the WBA, No. 9 by the WBO and No. 16 by the WBC. His most defining victory to date was a one-sided victory by 12-round decision (120-107, 120-108, 120-108) against former WBC title-holder Montell “Ice” Griffin (50-8, 30 KOs) last August in Kazakhstan.

British Boxer Marianne Marston Strikes Gold With New Sponsorship Deal.

American trained English Super Bantamweight Marianne ‘Golden Girl’ Marston, along with various soon to be announced American championship boxers, will be spearheading London based sporting equipment and apparel manufacturer Pugilistic Urban Garments planned assault on the $50 Billion American sporting goods market in 2009 with their pugilistic arts flagship brand P.U.G. Athletic.

Marianne, a protégé of former Heavyweight Champion of the World, Smokin’ Joe Frazier and Cruiserweight World Champion Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham, was previously sponsored by P.U.G. Athletic prior to her moving her training base, from Gleason’s Gym (London) near Tower Bridge, to Philadelphia and Smokin’ Joe Frazier’s Gym, where she was under the personal tutelage of
the legendary Heavyweight champ and his son Marvis, in February 2008.

Marianne’s American adventure soon became a roller coaster ride as shortly after committing herself to being with Smokin’ Joe Frazier, to prepare for her professional debut, the Philadelphia landmark gym closed down. Marianne’s dream looked at an end after just 58 days.

Not one to give up so easily Marianne tried out for Percy ‘Buster’ Custus at the “home of champions”, The James Shuler Memorial Gym, in West Philadelphia. Initially working with former Junior Middleweight World Champion Robert ‘Bam Bam’ Hines before switching her day to day training, due to her having difficulties understanding Robert’s strong accent which was causing frustrations between them, to the exceptional female trainer Shar’ron Baker.

Around the same time P.U.G. Athletic, who were concentrating on the European sporting goods market, decided not to renew their sponsorship arrangement as Marianne would be initially competing in America and as such could not see any benefit to their brand at that time.

Just as disaster loomed again for Marianne, up steps Cruiserweight King Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham and his wife and manager Livvy who invited Marianne to be part of Team ‘USS’ Cunningham, opening up a whole new world of opportunities for her including sessions at training camp with Team ‘USS’ Cunningham’s world class coach Anthony Chase and advice from team leader
Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham and “Trainer of the Year” contender Brother Nazeem Richardson in addition to day to day coaching from Shar’ron.

Marianne, who returned to England at the beginning of March in order to arrange the visa she requires for her professional debut at the 9th May ‘09 Ivan Cohen promoted event in South Philadelphia, met with P.U.G. Athletic boss John Rooney Jnr. when she returned to Gleason’s Gym (London) for some training sessions and a new sponsorship deal was arranged in record time.

Taking a moment out from her grueling preparations a very pleased Marianne said “I’m so pleased to be working with John (Rooney) and P.U.G. Athletic again. John has always been a great supporter of boxing. He used to sponsor my hero, Joe Calzaghe, and supports other great champions like Ian Napa and Danny Williams.

It’s so exciting to be involved in their expansion plans, to say I am proud to be a P.U.G. fighter is an understatement. I’m a great believer in their products. Over the past year I have tried out loads of gloves and couldn’t find any that came close to my old ones. I kept having niggly hand injuries so I got a friend of mine to send me over a new pair of P.U.G.’s late last year and hey presto no more problems. They really do offer the best hand protection!

Whilst I’m enjoying being back in London and training at Gleason’s, I’m really looking forward to getting back to Philly so I can be fully prepared for my fight.

I’m missing everyone at Shulers terribly. I missed Tyson’s (Jamaal’s ‘Da Truth’ Davis) and Eddie’s (‘Fast’ Eddie Chambers) fights and missed even more not being there to celebrate their victories with them. I’m also going to miss Gee’s (Culmer) fight this Friday (3rd April).

Whilst not one of my gym mates, I’m desperately hoping I can get my visa through soon so I can be there to support fellow Brit Carl Froch, when he takes on Jermain Taylor on the 25th (April). If I do I’ll be ringside for sure, what a great way to prepare for my fight, watching awesome fighters at close quarters, who knows I might steal some of his moves and use them in my fight in May.”

Marianne professional debut will be on the undercard of Philadelphia’s Brian Cohen WBC Americas Light Heavyweight title fight on May 9th 2009 at the South Philadelphia High School. The co-feature will be headed by Gabrielle Rosadl. In addition to Brian, Gabrielle and Marianne there will be seven further fights on the night.
