Tyric “Too Sweet” Robinson to battle Julias Edmonds in Philly war

PHILADELPHIA (February 20, 2009)—On Friday night, April 3rd one of more intriguing matchups to have hit Philadelphia in a long time will take place when undefeated Israeli sensation, Ran Nakash battles former Heavyweight prospect and extremely popular Dave Brunelli in the eight round Cruiserweight main event of an exciting night of boxing at The Legendary Blue Horizon in Philadelphia

The great card is promoted by Vernoca L. Michael and Blue Horizon Boxing Promotions Inc.

This fight harkens back to the days where great ethnic battles between Jewish and Italian fighters were commonplace in the sport of boxing.

Nakash of Haifa, Israel has not only become a staple at The Legendary Blue Horizon but he has become one of the most popular fighters in Philadelphia.

This will be his ninth appearance at The Legendary Blue Horizon as he has won his previous eight fights at the Blue with five knockouts. Overall Nakash is 17-0 with thirteen knockouts.

In his last outing on February 6th, Naksah bludgeoned Ryan Carrol (7-1) in two rounds.

After that fight, Nakash went back to Israel and re-assumed his place in the Israeli Army to fight against unrest that is going on in the Middle East.

Brunelli is one of the most popular fighters in Philadelphia as the Northeast Philly native has built up a great fan base that has supported him throughout his five year career.

Brunelli has a record of 8-4 with three knockouts and is itching to get back in the win column after losing two straight.

Brunelli is coming off a first round knockout at the hands of former U.S. Olympian Devin Vargas (15-0) last May in Atlantic City.

Brunelli is undefeated (2-0) at The Legendary Blue Horizon with the high point being a unanimous decision victory over Aaron Lyons in June of 2007.

Ironically it was Lyons who handed another out of town Philly favorite, Joey Abell his first loss.

A lot of the talk around town has Brunelli springing the upset on April 3rd.

Headlining “Homecoming” March 19 at Mechanics Hall, Worcester, MA

WORCESTER, Mass. (February, 19, 2009) – At large group of supporters attended today’s press conference in Worcester (MA) for unbeaten middleweight prospect Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez’ formal signing of an exclusive promotional contract with DiBella Entertainment.

Friends, family, members of the Worcester Police Gang Unit, local politicians, media, business leaders and boxing dignitaries, as well as fellow boxers – Jose Antonio Rivera, Peter Manfredo, Jr., Bobby Harris, Danny O’Connor and Andre Nevsky – filled the room at historic Mechanics Hall.

“It’s great to be here in this great venue,” promoter Lou DiBella said. “Mechanics Hall has a great history. I’m happy to sign and promote a great young fighter like Edwin, who could be a real star. In today’s economy, I wouldn’t be signing fighters if I didn’t feel it’s a good investment. Not only does he have world-class ability, I believe in him as a person and admire him in and out of the ring. This is one of my most significant signings. Edwin’s every bit, or better, than the most recent Olympic class, and I believe he’s a future world champion.”

The Dominican Republic born Rodriguez (9-0, 5 KOs), fighting out of Worcester, was an outstanding amateur boxer who had an 84-9 record, including gold medal performances in the 2005 USA Boxing National Championships and 2006 U.S. Golden Gloves Championships.

“There are many dangers in this sport,” Rodriguez explained why he signed with DiBella Entertainment. “A lot of promoters and managers want to make as much money as possible and leave their fighters with nothing. New York, February 18—Promoter Dino Duva has signed highly-regarded heavyweight prospect Bedarin “Rini” Toma, who will make his professional debut in the New York City spotlight on Wednesday night, February 25, at BB Kings Blues Club and Grill on 42nd Street in Manhattan.

Toma, who fights out of Astoria , Queens and is a two time New Jersey Golden Gloves champion, will square off against John Rabotte in his pro bow. Duva will promote the hard punching youngster, and his father, legendary Hall of Famer Lou Duva, will serve as co-manager with his partner Phil Forte.

Toma will show his considerable wares on the undercard of the DiBella Entertainment show featuring light heavyweights Shaun George vs. Jaffa Ballogou in the main event.

The New York boroughs have a high Albanian population, and Toma already has a huge following.

“I had heard about him and his success in the New Jersey Golden Gloves,” says Dino. “When I finally got a chance to meet him, he told me he wanted to turn pro. Some mutual friends told him to talk to us about working with me and my father. Rini, my father and I bonded quickly, and signed contracts soon after.”

“He is a tremendous puncher,” added Duva, “and that’s what we need in the heavyweight division today, power punchers that excite the fans. I can see him progressing very quickly in the heavyweight division. I know that he is popular with the Albanians New Yorkers, who are great fans, and I am excited about building him as a future heavyweight star.”

“He’s a strong guy who comes to fight,” says Lou Duva. “He gives fight fans a real show. I think he can do it, people like him. He has charisma to go with the talent.”

“I feel very good, I am very happy, I am a lucky guy to sign with Dino,” says the 25-year-old Toma. “I am very excited about fighting in New York in front of my family and friends, I am actually very nervous, but I know I will do well.”

“I am a boxer puncher, and very fast hands,” said the native of Lexha, Albania. “I come with a lot of power, I can also take a good punch, and my conditioning is very good, too.”

Toma migrated to the United States seven years ago from Albania, where boxing was prohibited, but he excelled as a three time Greco Roman wrestling champion.

Rocky Marciano is his idol. “The reason I started boxing was that I was delivering some books from the store, and I saw pictures of Rocky Marciano. He inspired me. Someone told me I had big fists like him, and that we looked similar.”

If Toma resembles Marciano in the ring in the slightest bit, he has quite a future ahead of him. Dino and Lou Duva hope so.

America’s Wrestling Radio program is back in our flagship Brute Adidas Studios this week to prepare for the Big 10’s, the PAC’s, the Big 12’s and more. After spending the week on the road at Missouri and in Little Rock Arkansas I can tell you one thing, Wrestling is GROWING. A great big wrestling thank you to Pat Smith and Greg Hatcher who along with their staff of volunteers made the Inaugural Arkansas HS State Championships a huge success. Working along side A.L. Haizlip was a real pleasure. We were pleased to welcome to the TDR Team Don Schuler who, along with his son Christian, made our trip that much more enjoyable. Thanks to all of the folks in Arkansas!

Matt Dragon- U Penn’s 157 pound Senior holds a 21 and 5 record on the year and a special place in the hearts of EIWA wrestling fans. His record speaks well enough but the student athlete lives life by example. “He’s a great student leader,” Said Rob Eiter.

Dragon looks to repeat as a champion. He did not compete last season but won in the 2006/07 campaign. He’s a wrestled with injury but always seems to come back. Find out why.

Ron Kruck- Host of Kruck’s Korner on HDNet’s Inside MMA joins us to discuss the MMA scene and the impact that wrestling continues to have on the work ethic in this sport. Ron travels the world with Bas and Kenny. Talk about a dream job. Beats soccer any day.

Jay “The Thorobred” Hieron- The former Hofstra wrestler, IFL Champion and now Affliction Knockout artist drops by for a look at his fight on the last Affliction show. He’ll discuss his crazy schedule of ups and downs and the lasting affect wrestling has had on his life, wait, it is his life. Master’s Amateur Boxing Saturday Night- February 21st

Amateur boxers from around The World and around The United States with face off in a sanctioned Amateur Boxing Match. The participants, from as far away as Germany and California, will be matched up in exciting bouts. All the men and women are above the age of 35 with some in the 40s, 50s, 60s and the oldest 71. The first bout will start at 7:00PM. The entrance fee is $20.00.

Golden Gloves Boxing Tuesday Night-February 24th

Gleason’s Gym, Inc. is sponsoring a Daily News Golden Gloves show on February 24, 2009. The show will feature the 132 pound open class boxers. The first bout will start at 7:00PM.

Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham Supports Old Foe Adamek

When Jersey City’s Polish ex-pat Tomasz ‘Goral’ Adamek defends his IBF Cruiserweight title, on the 27th February 2009, against Detroit’s Johnathon Banks at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey; he will have an unexpected supporter cheering him on ringside, former Cruiserweight King Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham.

On the 11th December ‘08 former Light Heavyweight champion Tomasz Adamek secured the IBF and Ring Magazine Cruiserweight World titles in a close split-decision win over the then champion, Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham. In the end it was so close no matter which way the decision went there couldn’t and wouldn’t be any complaint. The fight had it all, nonstop action, drama
and three knockdowns, and as such was hailed by many in the media as “Fight of the Year” candidate and the greatest Cruiserweight fight of all time, no mean feat when the previous holder of this accolade was the awesome 1986 war between the legendary Evander ‘The Real Deal’ Holyfield and Dwight Muhammad ‘Camden Buzzsaw’ Qawi.

‘USS’ Cunningham, who later this year is to face former WBC title holder, Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite, in an IBF title eliminator, explained his reasons for supporting his old foe and gave his thoughts on the upcoming Adamek-Banks battle. “”I’m looking forward to watching this. It should be a good fight. Their styles call for action. Johnathon seems like he can crack. He can take them as well as throw them. And Adamek, is tough, he’s a good solid, fighter.

The fight could go either way. I know I want the winner of the fight! I’ll be rooting for Tomasz. Yeah, I’d want to fight Johnathon if he wins. But, you know, I really want the rematch, I want my title back and I want to take it back from Tomasz.

Tomasz Adamek vs. Johnathon Banks for the IBF Cruiserweight Championship takes place on Friday the 27th February 2009 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

A total of eight undefeated fighters will risk their unblemished records on the magnificent eight-bout undercard that supports the “big boys”.

The co-feature event will see Giovanni Lorenzo of the Dominican Republic and NYC (26-1, 18 KO’s) lock horns with Colombia’s Dionisio Miranda, also of Miami (19-3-2, 17 KO’s) in a twelve round IBF eliminator for the #1 position in the middleweight division.

Paterson, NJ welterweight Henry Crawford (20-0-1, 9 KO’s) faces Keenan Collins (12-4-2, 8 KO’s) of Reading, PA. in an eight round bout.

Preceding that will be Newark’s popular former Olympian, Jerson Ravelo (19-3, 12 KO’s), against Don Mouton (7-3-1, 6 KO’s) of Houston, TX in an eight round super middleweight match.

No less than six fighters with unblemished records are featured in four six-round fights. Super Middleweight Patrick Majewski of Atlantic City puts his 9-0, 6 KO record on the line against Philadelphia’s undefeated Latif Mundy (8-0, 3 KO’s). Unbeaten Anthony Flores of Philadelphia (6-0, 4 KO’s) faces Super Featherweight Ikem Orji (4-0, 1 KO) and Philadelphia’s own Chucky Tschorniawsky, (25-9-1, 14 KO’s) will be up against unbeaten welterweight Jesse Lubash, (9-0, 5 KO’s) of Pittsburgh, PA.

The opening fight of the night will see Paterson, NJ’s two time National Golden Gloves Champion, Jeremy Bryan, currently unbeaten since joining the pro ranks, put his immaculate 8-0, 4 KO record on the line against Mexico’s Francisco Rios Gil (13-9, 9 KO’s) in a Junior Welterweight match-up.

“Fight Night” a Hot Ticket!

February 25 show at the Medieval Times Castle selling fast

In recent weeks there has been a buzz amongst boxing fans all across North Jersey. They are all in great anticipation for the professional boxing card scheduled for February 25 at the Medieval Times Castle in Lyndhurst, NJ. The event cleverly titled “Fight Night” has been selling tickets at a brisk pace. After putting together a stellar show in his promotional debut this past October, Dignity Promotions have teamed up with David Feldman’s Felko Promotions to stage another great boxing event.

“We had such a positive response from our first show at Medieval Times. Fans leaving the venue that night where already asking me when our next show will take place,” said Dignity Promotions’ Mike Indri.

“Our goal was to put on a great show at a fair price for the boxing fans and I truly believe that we accomplished that, especially looking at how well the fans have responded for this upcoming event. So far ticket sales have been going well.”

The card features three fighters making their professional debuts.

Lightweight Danny Valle comes from a rich boxing background. Valle is the grandson of notable trainer Victor Valle Sr., an accomplished trainer in the 1980s who has trained numerous world champions including the likes of former world champion Billy Costello and Gerry Cooney. His father, Victor Valle Jr., is the current trainer of former heavyweight world champion Oleg Maskaev.

Union City native Nelson Roldan will “finally” be stepping into the squared circle as a professional. The popular and rugged 160 lb. “gym war” veteran plans to impress with his long-awaited opportunity.

Another fighter making his pro debut is former University of Delaware Linebacker Kyle White. White has trained with notable fighters such as Shaun George and current jr. welterweight champion Kendall Holt. The Hoboken resident will be competing in the 168 lb. super middleweight division.

Headlining the card will be Cruiserweight title challenger Bobby Gunn. Gunn, the current WBC USNBC champion, will now be fighting for the vacant WBA NABA Cruiserweight crown. A victory would help him move him one step closer to a fight against an elite 200 lb fighter.

There are 8 scheduled bouts on the fight card.
