If 22 straight sellouts aren’t enough to get you to the next Battle In The Ballroom pro boxing show at the Irvine Marriott on Thursday, October 9th, promoter Roy Englebrecht has come us with two historic reasons to be in attendance, and they are both groundbreaking in the boxing history.

Besides the Main Event for the Battle In The Ballroom Championship Belt, Englebrecht has announced that Avalon Anders, one of the early Ring Card Girls to work at the Marriott shows, will be stepping into the ring with her 19 year old daughter Amanda Stronegger, making them boxing’s first ever Mother-Daughter Ring Card Girls! Anders was a member of Playboy’s Swedish Ski Team in 1991 and was living in Garden Grove when she started doing Ring Card Girl duties at the Marriott. Amanda is currently pursuing a modeling and acting career. “I remember Avalon having to get a baby sitter for Amanda when I booked her at the Marriott,” stated Englebrecht. “She worked for me for nearly 15 years and even was the Ring Card Girl on the Celebrity Boxing shows on Fox. Now to have Avalon and Amanda in the same ring is really having my business come full circle.”

Added to this great six bout card set for October 9th, will be another first for the sport of boxing, when Ricky and Ana Tangaro step into the ring to become the first ever husband and wife to fight on the same fight card! Married for five years and training out of the Coachella Boxing Club and trained by Lee Espinoza, they will both be making their pro debuts but will not be fighting each other. Ricky will meet Efren Lopez out of Bakersfield and Ana will face 1-0 Michelle Nelson from Alberta, Canada.

The Fernando Quintero vs Luis Alberto Cervantes main event will be a good one as both fighters can win their first ever championship belt. Quintero out of Oxnard is undefeated at 5-0 and will get all he wants from Cathedral City’s 7-2 Cervantes.

If you liked the two spectacular knockouts at the August 27th show, ballroom matchmaker Arnold Berber is working on bringing both Terrell Hendrix and Herman Scott who made big pro debuts with the KO wins. Plus exciting flyweight Angel Magdelano meets Huntington Parks’s Jose Pacheco.

Ryan Hass and John Halverson Selected to Fight in Night of Combat 2 in Las Vegas For HD-Net Fights Event

Des Moines, IA- October 1, 2008- Veteran mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters and seasoned impresarios Ryan Hass and John Halverson will compete in a nationally televised event at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas on Saturday, October 11. The event, titled “Night of Combat 2” is a co-production between Superfights MMA, Mark Cubans HD-Net high definition network, and Kim Couture’s KC Concepts promotion company.

Both Hass and Halverson began their MMA careers inside the cage, going on to co-found Midwest Cage Championship (MCC), Des Moines premier MMA promoter. Both men have competed in large scale productions previously, with Halverson going on to the UFC. Night of Combat 2 has created significant buzz based on a strong fight card, the celebrity status of one of its promoters (Kim Couture, top ranked woman fighter and wife of Randy Couture), and the world class venue. The original Night of Combat event held in June at UNLV’s Thomas and Mack Center attracted 11,000 attendees.

The event will be broadcast on HD-Net one week following the live event. Night of Combat 2 is one of the new MMA promotions showing up on the televised landscape as several networks, including CBS and NBC, scramble to embrace the nations fastest growing sport.

Nationally recognized broadcaster, announcer, and Des Moines native Scott Casber, serves as ring announcer for the event. Casber became a partner in MCC, when it was merged with Title Fight Championship in September 2007.

Reality TV show winner Otis Griffin fighting for legitimacy in Germany

IBF middleweight Abraham-Marquez title fight headlines Saturday’s PPV in U.S. & Canada

HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 29, 2008) – Former NABO champion Otis “Triple OG” Griffin has traveled halfway around the world, from his California home to Germany for Saturday’s (October 4) fight against Enad Licina, in order to prove that “The Next Great Champ” winner is much more than a reality television fighter.

Nothing has come easy for Alabama-native Griffin (19-3-2, 7 KOs), who battles Licina (14-1, 8 KOs) for the vacant IBF Intercontinental cruiserweight title in the 12-round co-feature on a special pay-per-view card, headlined by unbeaten International Boxing Federation middleweight champion “King” Arthur Abraham defending his belt against former world champion Raul “El Diamente” Marquez, live from Bamberg, Germany.

Abraham-Marquez is promoted by Wilfried Sauerland, presented by Sauerland Event and its Managing Director, Christian Meyer, in association with Seminole Warriors Boxing. The broadcast is being distributed in the United States and Canada by Integrated Sports for live viewing at 3 PM/ET – 12 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, TVN, DirecTV, DISH Network, Viewer’s Choice Canada, and Bell ExpressVue, for a suggested retail price of only $24.95. A replay will be shown that same night starting at 9 PM/ET. Al Bernstein and Nick Charles will call the action.

Griffin, fighting out of Sacramento, lost his pro debut to Jimmy Mince by four-round split decision in the preliminary round of the 2004 Oscar De La Hoya-sponsored reality television series on Fox, “The Next Great Champ.” When one of the fighters suddenly quit the show, Griffin was brought back and he took full advantage of his second chance, defeating Mohamad Elmahmoud (DEC4), Mince (DEC4 in semifinals) in a rematch and David Pareja (DEC6) in the championship final. The winner was supposed to fight in a sanctioned WBO title fight, but it never materialized and Griffin eventually built-up his pro record to 16-1-2, setting the stage in 2007 for an NABO light heavyweight championship bout against unbeaten Mike Nevitt (14-0), who Otis stopped in the seventh round.

Yugoslavian cruiserweight Licina (14-1, 8 KOs), rated No. 13 by the European Boxing Union and European Boxing Association, now fights out of Germany, where he’ll take on Griffin in Saturday’s co-feature.

Abraham (27-0, 22 KOs), rated No. 2 by The Ring and ESPN, captured the IBF middleweight title early three years ago by way of a fifth-round knockout of Kingsley Ikeke (23-1). Seven successful title defenses have followed against Edison Miranda, Shannon Taylor, Kofi Jantuah, Sebastian Demers, Khoren Gevor, Wayne Elcock and Elvin Ayala.

The 1992 U.S. Olympian Marquez (41-3-1, 29 KOs), rated No. 2 by the IBF as well as No. 8 by The Ring and ESPN, earned his title shot against Abraham by defeating previously undefeated No. 1 contender Giovanni Lorenzo (26-0) in their June 21st IBF title eliminator.

Norwich v Ipswich East Anglia derby

Danny McIntosh is confident he will go on to fight for bigger titles after Saturday’s English Light-Heavyweight Title challenge against Steve Spartacus.

The Norwich boxer has won all of his seven fights and will be seeking to keep his home fans happy when he takes on experienced Ipswich warrior Spartacus at the Norfolk Showground in Norwich.

McIntosh’s fellow Norwich boxer Jon Thaxton challenges for the European Lightweight Title as top of the bill on ‘Big Fight Live’ on ITV4 promoted by Hennessy Sports.

McIntosh believes winning the English Title will launch his career and propel him towards the British and Commonwealth Titles.

“It’s excellent news that it’s for the English title because you just look at what has happened to Rendall Munroe recently,” he said.

“He only became English super-bantamweight champion a year ago and now he is European champion talking about world titles. It can happen that quickly and this can be the start for me.

“I’ve got the potential to do that and win titles beyond the English title – this is just the start for me.

“I’ve always had the potential but now I just have to let people see what I can do in a title fight.

“I took the fight against Joey Vegas at just a week’s notice and I boxed his head off in his own back yard, so that shows I’ve got the potential to do more.”

McIntosh says there is an extra edge to this English Title showdown with being it an East Anglia derby: Norwich v Ipswich.

The 28-year-old, who trains at Brendan Ingle’s gym in Sheffield, has told Ipswich hero Spartacus to expect a hostile reception for their local spat.

“Me and Steve have sparred together and he’s a good lad, but he’s my foe at the moment and I’m thinking about doing a number on him,” he said.

“When the Norwich fans here he is from Ipswich when he is announced to come to the ring, he will get a very hostile reception.

“There’s a lot of rivalry between Norwich and Ipswich and football, and boxing is no different.

“Norwich and Ipswich don’t get on and he’s going to be getting it on the night. He will have all the Norwich fans giving him grief as well as me in the ring.”

Cuban heavy Odlanier Solis face American Chauncy Welliver for the vacant WBC Int´l title October 11 in Berlin in a supporting bout to Klitschko vs Peter. The show is interestingly enough supervised by the BDB and not the GBO, who previously handled K 2´s shows in Germany. Also on for the bill is heavyweight giant Alexander Ustinov, signed to K 2 East.

EBU feather champ Oleg Yefimovich defends the title against Italian Luca Maggio on Union Boxing Team´s show in Donetsk November 29. Contracts for Mikkel Kessler´s defence of the WBA supermiddle title against Danilo Haussler are signed but Team Palle and Sauerland Event don´t agree on who should pay income taxes in Germany. The tax rate is 21,1 % so we talk serious money for both parties and if no agreement are reached Sauerland will ask to have the purse bids they won declared null and void – which will lead to a postponement of the fight.

Zauerbek Baysangurov have today relinquished the EBU jr middle title. Mandatory challenger Jamie Moore will square off against Italian Michele Piccirillo for the vacant crown. As for Baysangurov his promoters, K 2 East, have their eyes on a IBF world title eliminator.

Ivan Pozo and Andrea Sarritzu are co-challengers for the EBU flyweight title left vacant by Bernard Inom.

Promoter and manager Wilfried Sauerland celebrates his 30th anniversary in boxing. Sauerland began promoting in Zambia but it was in 1980 when he got amateur stars Rene Weller and Manfred Jassmann to turn pro he began to make his mark and also revived professional boxing in Germany. Weller reached the EBU lightweight title and was a big star, then came Ralf and Graciano Rocchigiani and finally in the early 90´s Sauerland hit the bigtime with Henry Maske, who became a superstar and lifted boxing in Germany to a different level. Other fighters have followed and Sauerland Event remains a major player on the scene with stars like Arthur Abraham and Marco Huck.

EBU welter champ Rafael Jackiewicz defends against mandatory challenger Jan Zaveck from Slovenia November 29 in Katowice, Poland. However, it´s a fight surrounded by rumors as both men appears to have plans for world title eliminators and it´s not confirmed yet by Bullit Knockout Promotions.

WBA champ Felix Sturm and challenger Sebastian Sylvester met today at a press conference in Oberhausen. Sylvester´s manager Winfried Spiering said Sebastian would “hunt Universum´s flagship down, destroy and sink it”. Sturm vs Sylvester goes ahead November 1 in Oberhausen. In a second world title on the bill Sergyi Dzinziruk defends the WBO jr middle title against Joel Julio.

Say hello to the Austrian Boxing Association which supervised a show in Prenzlau, Germany, this weekend. The ABA will in the future work with the GBA and GBO.

Welters Jurgen Haeck and Domingos Nascimento Monteiro clash for the BeNeLux title October 10 in Gent, Belgium. On the undercard making a special appearance is cruiser Ismail Abdoul. who´s been inactive for some time due to a prison term.
