No Velasco, but Klarcyk ready for title

LEMOORE, CA — Shawn Klarcyk is excited to be defending the Palace Fighting Championship World Bantamweight belt.
But the Porterville, CA mixed martial artist would prefer to be fighting Oakdale, CA’s Rolando Velasco, who was the champ before vacating the title.
“Of course I want to fight Rolando again. I feel that the first fight was never finished so, to hear that our second scheduled rematch was canceled, I was pretty disappointed. So, whenever Velasco is ready I will be waiting,” Klarcyk (8-2) said. Klarcyk will take on Tulare, CA’s Brandon Miller (3-2) for the strap on September 26 at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore for PFC 10’s “Explosive”.
Velasco (5-0-1) defeated Klarcyk by technical knockout in January, but hasn’t been able to come back and defend his title for a variety of reasons.
Meanwhile, Klarcyk pulled off impressive wins against Anthony Garcia and Jason Georgianna for the interim title in May.
“Shawn has proven himself to be one of the most exciting and efficient 135-pound fighters on the West Coast,” PFC President Christian Printup said. “With Rolando it’s just been a mater of bad timing. He has a family reunion this month and that’s something very important to him and I believe that he is starting school at UC Davis and I’ve always known education is his No.1 priority. He’s made it clear he couldn’t compete in September and he knew he was going to vacate the title.”
In steps Miller, who has lost two of his last three fights to David Granados (5-3-1).
“I know that (Brandon) will be standing across the ring from me and he picked a bad time to step in the ring with Shawn Klarcyk,” said Klarcyk. “I’m expecting a very fast TKO in the first round, and I regain my tile.”
Obviously, Miller is expecting a different type of outcome.
“I’ve seen Shawn fight a few times before. I know he’s good on the ground with good cardio. I question his striking ability though,” Miller said. “Well I see this fight definitely going to the end with me getting my hand raised. Whether it goes one round or all five it’s going to be an exciting fight. One the fans aren’t going to forget.”
It should be a fight with a nice contrast of styles, as Klarcyk is widely recognized as one of Central CA’s top grapplers and Miller is primarily known for his kickboxing.
“I think that this is a tough fight for Klarcyk. Miller is tough and scrappy and really has nothing to lose in this fight,” Printup said. “But this is still a fight a champion should win. When it’s all said and done, I think we will learn a lot about both guys.”

Distributing Abraham-Marquez world title fight Broadcast live Oct. 4 from Germany

HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 11, 2008) – Integrated Sports will distribute the much anticipated October 4th showdown between unbeaten International Boxing Federation middleweight champion “King” Arthur Abraham and top contender Raul “El Diamente” Marquez, in the United States and Canada, live from Germany.
Abraham-Marquez is promoted by Wilfried Sauerland, presented by Sauerland Event and its Managing Director, Christian Meyer, in association with Seminole Warriors Boxing. The broadcast is being distributed in the United States and Canada by Integrated Sports for live viewing at 3 PM/ET – 12 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, TVN, DirecTV, Viewer’s Choice Canada, and Bell ExpressVue, for a suggested retail price of only $24.95. A replay will be shown that same night starting at 9 PM/ET.
Abraham (27-0, 22 KOs), rated No. 2 by The Ring and ESPN, is coming off of his first fight in the United States (Hollywood, FL), stopping Edison Miranda (30-2) in the second round of their June 21st title fight in explosive fashion. Abraham, however, remains somewhat of a curiosity factor in North America in terms of being a serious threat for Kelly Pavlik in a potential unification bout.
“King” Arthur captured the IBF middleweight title nearly three years ago by way of a fifth-round knockout of Kingsley Ikeke (23-1). Eight successful title defenses have followed against Miranda twice, Shannon Taylor, Kofi Jantuah, Sebastian Demers, Khoren Gevor, Wayne Elcock and Elvin Ayala.
The 37-year-old Marquez (41-3-1, 29 KOs), rated No. 2 by the IBF as well as No. 8 by The Ring and ESPN, earned his title shot against Abraham by defeating previously unbeaten No. 1 contender Giovanni Lorenzo (26-0) in their IBF title eliminator on the June 21st Abraham-Miranda card. Marquez, fighting out of Houston, was a 1992 U.S. Olympian who was the IBF junior middleweight title-holder in 1997.
Despite taking off 1 ½ years to work as a broadcaster for HBO’s boxing telecasts in Spanish, Raul is more experienced in the ring than Abraham – 269 to 161 in rounds fought – having been in against world champions Jermain Taylor, Shane Mosley, Fernando Vargas and Yori Boy Campas.
“We’re delighted to show this fight in the U.S. and Canada and help reintroduce ‘King’ Arthur Abraham to fans here,” Integrated Sports president Doug Jacobs said. “It’s a pleasure working with promoters Wilfried Sauerland and Seminole Warriors Boxing. Hockessin, DE—Undefeated super bantamweight Teon “The Technician” Kennedy, of Philadelphia, PA, will box Robert DaLuz, of Providence, RI, in a scheduled six-round contest Friday evening, Sept. 19, at the Hockessin Police Athletic League (PAL), 7259 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. First of seven fights is 7pm.
Topping the card are a pair of eight-round light-heavyweight contests featuring Richard Stewart, of New Castle, DE, vs. Andre Hemphill, of Philadelphia, PA, and Chuck Mussachio, of Wildwood, NJ, vs. Willis Lockett, of Tacoma Park, MD.
Kennedy, 22, is 9-0, 5 K0s. Last time out July 18 he knocked out previously unbeaten Thomas Snow, of Washington, DC, in two rounds of the scheduled eight-round main event at the New Alhambra in Philadelphia, PA.
A pro less than two years, Kennedy won the 2004 National Golden Gloves at 112 pounds and he is considered one of the best 122-pound prospects in the country. He also scored an eight-round decision this year over Castulo Gonzalez, of Lowell, MA, at the New Alhambra.
DaLuz, 30, is 11-13-2, 9 K0s, but has boxed some of the best super bantamweights and featherweights along the East Coast and has only been stopped once.
He also has beaten Castulo Gonzalez along with Allen Litzau, Jason’s brother, who was 12-2 at fight time.

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 11, 2008) – The stars will be out September 17 at “The Maul In Manchester” pro boxing show in the 7th annual Fight To Educate charity event at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Boxing Hall of Famers Roberto “Hands of Stone” Duran and Angele Dundee, as well as future HOF inductee Tommy “Hitman” Hearns, will be on hand to meet and greet fans.
The 7th annual Fight To Educate, presented by Members First Credit Union, in association with Cedric Kushner’s Gotham Boxing, will benefit the New Hampshire Union Leader Santa Fund for the Salvation Army, the Bobby Stephen Fund for Education and SEE Science Center.
Unbeaten prospects Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin and Ronald “The Chosen One” Hearns will be showcased in separate bouts in “The Maul In Manchester.”
Five-time world champion Duran (103-16, 70 KOs), inducted into the HOF in 2007, is arguably the greatest lightweight of all-time. The ferocious, relentless Panamanian defeated Sugar Ray Leonard, Pipino Cuervas, Iran Barkley and Ken Buchanan, among the more notables.
Probably best known as the great Muhammad Ali’s head trainer, Dundee also trained Leonard, Carmen Basilio, Jimmy Ellis and George Foreman for his fight against Michael Moorer.

INAUGURAL HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLER OF THE MONTH NAMED BY TAKEDOWN WRESTLING RADIO

Des Moines, IA- September 8, 2008- The first winner of a new monthly promotion was named Saturday when Marshall Peppelman of Harrisburg, PA was awarded the High School Wrestler of the Month title. The award is presented by TakeDown Radio and is made possible through the support of Resilite, W.I.N. Magazine, Brute adidas, intermat, and Sunflower Wrestling Supply. The winner was announced on the September 6 edition of TakeDown Radio.
Peppelman was selected from a field of applicants from throughout the country. The award is based on the wrestler’s success on the mat, academic performance, and contributions to their community. Submissions were filed by wrestler’s coaches and parents.
Peppelman is a junior at Central Dauphin High School and holds an 84-7 high school record. He is also a 2008 Pennsylvania Individual State Champion and helped Central Dauphin secure the State Dual Meet Championship. Additionally, he has won numerous tournaments including the Beast of the East, PowerAde, and Fargo Cadet.
Off the mat, Marshall is an Honor Roll member, takes several advanced courses, maintains an A grade average, and participates in outside SAT preparation courses. He received the Proclamation for Excellence Award from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and regularly contributes his time to charities along with volunteering as a wrestling camp counselor.
“We could not have written a better dossier if we were making it up” stated TDR founder and host Scott Casber. “Here is a remarkable person in terms way beyond wrestling. He comes from a family of wrestlers including other state champions, and from a strong wrestling state. We are absolutely thrilled” Casber concluded.
The High School Wrestler of the Month Award includes interviews on TakeDown Radio, intermat, and in W.I.N. Magazine. It also provides product awards from Resilite, Brute adidas, and Sunflower Wrestling Supply. In the event school restrictions prohibit personal product awards, they will be contributed to the team.
