Carson Jones-Ricardo Williams USBA title fight set for December 15!

Posted on | November 2, 2011 | No Comments

Oklahoma City, OK (November 2, 2011) – USBA welterweight champion Carson Jones will look to take another step towards his dream of fighting for a world title when he battles 2000 Olympic Silver Medalist Ricardo “Slicky Ricky” Williams in the main event of “The Corona Rumble at Remington, Presented by Monster Energy” Thursday, December 15 at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, OK.

The card is promoted by HD Boxing and tickets are available by calling 405-473-500 or going tohttp://www.tix.com/Event.asp?Event=409622.

Jones, 32-8-2 (22 KO’s), hasn’t had any soft touches in the paid ranks, battling a plethora of prospects, contenders and undefeated fighters. Although he’s had his fair share of frustrations, the 25 year old has been on a tear during the last two and a half years, compiling an outstanding 15-1-1 record against solid opposition. Jones’ victims include record breaking knockout artist Tyrone Brunson (21-0-1), Michi Munoz (21-2), Jason LeHoullier (21-2-1), Michael Clark (41-5-1) and Said Ouali (28-3).

Once considered a can’t miss fighter, Williams has also been through a number of ups and downs since turning pro in January 2001. The quick handed Cincinnati native lost twice in his first 11 bouts and was out of the ring for more than three years due to legal issues. Since resurfacing in 2008, Williams has won all ten of his bouts, putting his current professional ledger at 19-2 with 10 KO’s.

“This is my first title defense,” said Jones, who is rated sixth by the IBF and defeated the aforementionedClark to win the USBA belt. “When I defended the NABA junior middleweight title, I didn’t come out on top but I am better at welterweight than I was at 154 and I’ve scored six straight knockouts. I don’t think Williams will give me any trouble at all and I don’t see this fight going the distance!”

BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN: LENNOX SHINES ON SHO BOX UNDERCARD

Posted on | November 2, 2011 | No Comments

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CARTERET, NJ (November 2, 2011)—This past Friday night at Ballys in Atlantic City, Heavyweight John Lennox scored a four round unanimous decision over Donnie Crawford as part of the undercard to the SHO BOX main event between Ossie Duran and Brandon Gonzales.

Lennox, who was previously known as a blood and guts brawler showed improved boxing skills and a diverse approach to raise his record to 7-1.

Lennox of Carteret, New Jersey won the bout in shutout fashion as all three score cards read 40-36.

“We worked on improved Defense”, said Lennox manager Rich Masini.

Lennox, who was stopped in controversial fashion in his previous bout was looking to be a stringer fighter while adding those defensive skills

“John added more weight as he came in at a career high of 222.”

Lennox spent the last part of his training camp with veteran Atlantic City trainers Ray McCline and Vince Jackson, who helped out lead trainer Charles Thomas in Lennox preparation for the bout.

This was Lennox second defeat over Crawford as he stopped him on July 9th.

“Crawford had a hell of a chin and he had something to prove after the last bout”

Although this was Lennox fifth fight of 2011, he will not rest on his laurels as he plans to fight two more times in 2011.

“We are looking for our first six round fight in November on a show in North Jersey and then hopefully comeback in the beginning of December and look at 2012 at 9-1 and begin to move on to some nice fights for John”

Lennox has a caring team around him in Masini and Thomas and he needed that as a personal family issue hit the young Heavyweight just days before the fight.

“We are so proud of John. He had a situation occur in his family where I believe that 99% of the fighters would have pulled out. He went home for a day and when he saw things were going to be ok, he came right back to Atlantic City and he came through with flying colors and did not only us but his family proud”

Thanksgiving Eve Boxing Back in Chicago

November 23 Marks The Return of
Popular Hitz Boxing Series

Hitz Boxing’s upcoming “Thanksgiving Eve Belvedere Bash” boxing event on Wednesday, November 23, at The Belvedere Banquet in Elk Grove, Illinois, will mark an important rebirth for the sport in Chicago, as it will bring the return after five years of a series of Thanksgiving eve shows that were once wildly popular with boxing fans, as well as celebrities and other members of the city’s socialite scene.

“This is a show we did every year for 15 years straight and it was always a huge success,” recounts Hitz Boxing Founder, Bobby Hitz.

Hitz, also active in the restaurant and bar trade, says he observed how busy the night before Thanksgiving was every year and the idea came to him.

“I noticed everyone went out that night, so I said why not give people an evening of fights? It turned into a happening where there were lots of people who would only come to this show every year and bring family from out of town in. It’s a great guy’s night out. One year, I had Butterbean, Ken Norton, Tommy Hearns, Bobby Czyz, and Jake LaMotta there, all guys in town for Thanksgiving in Chicago.”

This year’s event will feature Chicago’s comebacking former world title challenger Johnny Lewus (25-4-1, 21 KOs) in an eight-round lightweight bout, plus an undercard that includes Chicago-based undefeated super middleweight Mike Kurzeja (5-0-1, 4 KOs) in a six-round crowd pleaser; power-punching undefeated Chicago heavyweight Dave Latoria (9-0, 5 KOs) in a six-rounder; undefeated Chicago super middleweight Mike “Hollywood” Jimenez (4-0, 3 KOs) will go four; MMA star turned Mike Tyson clone, Chicago cruiserweight Terry Martin (4-0, 4 KOs) will return to the ring for four rounds or less, and in a very special added bonus, the night will kick off with the four-round pro debut of Chicago’s popular super heavyweight Golden Gloves Champion Erick Correa.

Hitz says he’s bringing back his Thanksgiving Eve events after a five-year absence due to popular demand. “It’s been posed to me so many times to bring it back and some of my guys need fights, so it’s a great time to bring it back. The other promoters in town were nice enough not to start doing shows on this date, so I’ll start it back up again. Apparently, people love to watch guys knock the stuffing out of each other on the day before Thanksgiving.”

All opponents will be announced soon.

Tickets for the “Thanksgiving Eve Belvedere Bash” are $100 Ringside and $35 G/A and are available at fanfueled.com or the HITZ TIX HOTLINE: 630-442-4203. All bouts are subject to change. On fight night, doors open at 6:30 pm and the action starts at 7:30.

The Belvedere Banquet is located at 1170 West Devon in Elk Grove.

Boyd Melson to fight November 17!

Posted on | November 1, 2011 | No Comments

For Immediate Release

New York, NY (November 1, 2011) – Captain Boyd “Rainmaker” Melson of New York City will fight for a second straight time in the Garden State when he battles an opponent to be named in a six round junior middleweight contest Thursday, November 17 at North Bergen’s Schuetzen Park.

Tickets start at $55 and can be purchased on teamfighttowalk.com.

Melson, a West Point graduate and active Army Reserve officer, is fresh off a dominant six round decision over Russ Niggemyer and is aiming for his seventh victory in as many fights.

“The more I fight, the better I feel,” said Melson, who was on a three-year hiatus after a shoulder injury forced him to withdraw from being an alternate at the 2008 Olympics. “My performances have gotten better with each and every fight and I believe that fans will see my best showing to date come November 17.”

With America’s first clinical trial for Spinal Cord Injuries slated to take place in 2012, Melson’s entire purse will be donated to “Justadollarplease” in effort to help make the trial possible.

“There are so millions of Americans with Spinal Cord Injuries that could potentially walk again if the necessary research is conducted,” stated Melson. “There is minimal funding for Spinal Cord Injury research and we’re doing all that we can to help those in need. I believe that the outcome of this trial will have a historical impact for years to come much like when North Bergen’s very own James J. Braddock upset Max Baer for the heavyweight championship.”

In association with Justadollarplease, Melson created Team Fight to Walk, whose mission is to raise awareness within the boxing community about the importance of stem cell research for spinal cord injuries. Team Fight to Walk is comprised of Melson, former two-time cruiserweight champion Steve “USS” Cunningham, title contender DeAndre “The Bull” Latimore, Edgar “El Chamaco” Santana, 2008 US Olympian Shawn Estrada, and prospects Sid “The Messenger” El Harrak, Denis “Da Momma’s Boy” Douglin Frank Galarza, Vinny “The Lion” O’Brien Ahmed “Prince of Egypt” Samir and Delen “Sniper” Parsley.
