RODRIGUEZ-ROSINSKY HEADLINE SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION

THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21ST AT FOXWOODS LIVE ON SHOWTIME® AT 11 p.m. ET/PT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mashantucket, CT/New York, NY – (10/19/2011) – This Friday, October 21st, Queens, New York-native Will “Power” Rosinsky (14-0, 8KO’s) will step into the national spotlight and look to put his name amongst boxing’s most promising up-and-coming prospects when he takes on highly regarded and top-rated Super Middleweight contender Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez (19-0, 14KO’s). Rodriguez-Rosinsky is the main event bout of the evening on DiBella Entertainment’s “Octoberfist: Fight Night Done Right”at the beautiful MGM Grand at Foxwoods. The show, which will be televised live on ShoBox: The New Generation, will also feature rising junior welterweight contender Gabriel “Tito” Bracero (17-0, 3KO’s) taking onDaniel Sostre (11-4-1, 4KO’s) for the vacant NABF title. Both bouts are scheduled for 10 rounds and will be televised live on SHOWTIME® beginning at 11PM ET/PT (delayed on the west coast).

Rosinsky was a decorated amateur, winning the New York Golden Gloves four times, as well as the 2005 United States Amateur Championship at light heavyweight, before successfully turning pro in 2008 with a first-round TKO over Valetine Fortanelly.

Rosinsky has been featured on DiBella’s Broadway Boxing series a number of times, but the bout against Rodriguez will be his first in the national spotlight. Fighting on SHOWTIME, against one of boxing’s hottest up-and-coming prospects might get some fighter’s nerves going, but with just one week left until the fight, Rosinsky seems as cool and confident as can be.

“Training camp for this fight has been better than great,” said Rosinsky, who trains at the New Legend Boxing Club in Ozone Park, Queens. “I know Edwin from coming up in the amateurs and he is a good guy, but this is a business and unfortunately for him this is a fight I had to take to better my career.”

Many of boxing insiders have Rosinsky as an underdog coming into the fight, but Rosinsky seems to be fine with the notion.

“There’s one reason why people feel that way and it’s because they saw more of Edwin. He’s been in the spotlight a little more than me in the pros, but this will be the fight where people will find out exactly who I am.”

Rosinsky knows how important the fight is for his career, as a win would propel him into the world ratings, but for now he is simply concentrated on the task at hand.

“I’m going to fight a smart fight, and execute my game plan. Like I said in the past about this specific fight between Edwin and me, people should be expecting a very good fight. It’s two guys that don’t know what it feels like to lose. We’ll both be trying protect that ‘0’.”

“Octoberfist: Fight Night Done Right” is presented by DiBella Entertainment, The Breast Cancer Charities of America, P3R Publicity, Everlast and Corona. Tickets are priced at $125, $85 and $50, and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.foxwoods.com orwww.ticketmaster.com, and by calling (800) 200-2882. Doors open at 7PM, with the first bout scheduled for 8PM. Showtime will begin live coverage at 11PM ET.

Join Team Guerrero in their effort to cure cancer with a small or large donation.  Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual fundraising walk to pay tribute and bring hope to people battling cancer. Hundreds of thousands of participants raise funds for lifesaving research and patient services.  Click here to donate

For more than 60 years, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has been solely focused on people with blood cancers. Presently, we have more than $250 million committed to research across the United States and in ten other countries. Every dollar is provided by concerned donors. We invest in the best, outcome based science:

  • Anywhere, with no geographic or institutional boundaries
  • Without profit incentive
  • To meet unmet Medicare needs of people with blood cancers
And LLS funded advances are helping patients beyond those for whom they were originally developed, including people with solid tumors and auto-immune diseases. In the past decade, nearly 50% (19 put of 39) of the cancer drugs approved by the FDA were approved as treatments for blood cancer patients. Twelve are already approved for people beyond those for whom they were first developed. With your help, we are saving lives.
  • A donation of $25 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.
  • A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.
  • A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.
  • A donation of $1,000 makes possible one- on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team.

Please join our team’s effort today by registering to walk or by making a donation. Your participation in the Light The Night Walk will help save lives. Be sure to check our team Web site frequently to see our progress, and thanks for your support! Click here to donate.

Future Looks Bright as Rob Eiter’s Quakers Add Nine, He Talks to Takedown

Posted on | October 19, 2011 | No Comments

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania had plenty of memorable moments during the 2010-11 season, including Zack Kemmerer‘s run to All-American honors at 141 pounds while winning 39 matches during the season to set a new Penn record for wins in a season and four wrestlers taking the mat in the Round of 12 at the NCAA Championships in their own backyard of the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. One more memorable moment will close out the 2011 season for head coach Rob Eiter and his coaching staff – the announcement of a nine-wrestler recruiting class ready to create its own legacy in University City starting this fall.

Eiter welcomes the nine grapplers from six different states and they project to compete up and down the roster as the Quakers look to build upon back-to-back All-American finishes by Penn wrestlers at the NCAA Championships.

“This is a great group of young men that we are excited to add to our program,” said Eiter. “They are accomplished wrestlers on the mat and dedicated students off the mat. Those attributes will combine to make this class a very positive addition to the tradition of Penn Wrestling.”

The Class of 2015 was highly touted by many national wrestling publications, with InterMat ranking Penn’s class No. 11 in the country while W.I.N. Magazine had the group No. 12, D1CollegeWrestling.net has the Red and Blue at No. 13 and TheOpenMat.com slotted the Penn recruiting class at No. 15.

Individually, four of Penn’s recruits were ranked inside InterMat’s Top 100. Only eight other schools had four or more wrestlers from the Top 100 included in their recruiting classes and none had more than five. The four Top 100 wrestlers heading to West Philly this fall include No. 62 Steve Robertson (149/157 pounds), No. 67 Charlie Lynch (149), No. 73 C.J. Cobb (141/149) and No. 83 Jeff Canfora (133/141). They will be joined by Kyle Taylor (125), Mark Pinero (141), Lorenzo Thomas (157/165), Ian Korb (174/184) and Anthony DiLonardo (285) when the season begins.

Williams Inks Boxfit Sponsorship Deal, Ahead Of Friday’s Title Showdown With Norton

Posted on | October 19, 2011 | No Comments

Ahead of his British Cruiserweight  title challenge, against Rob Norton at York Hall in Bethnal Green this coming Friday, Streatham’s  Leon ‘Solid’ Williams has inked a sponsorship deal with Harold Wood, Essex, based boxing equipment retailer Boxfit.

On making the announcement Ken Mills, the owner of Boxfit, said, “Yes we are sponsoring Leon, we’re really pleased with that.

Hopefully Leon will do the business, wearing all our Boxfit kit.

It’s exciting times whenever you sponsor an up and coming fighter so hopefully Leon takes his chance and does the business”

Williams, the current Southern Area Champion, earned the shot at Norton’s title following two sensation stoppage finishes earlier this year.

The first came on his first defense, of the title he won in October 2010, against Danny Couzens. The first three rounds were close all action affairs, but just thirty seconds into the fourth Williams let rip with a peach of a right that sent Couzens crashing to the canvas. Initially there were some concerns as Couzens was out cold but shortly after the paramedics started to administer oxygen he soon recovered.

Four months later Williams returned to York Hall to exact the same punishment on Battersea’s fighting fireman, Nick ‘The Ox’ Okoth, albeit a little further into the fight, this time after one minute and thirty seconds of the fifth.

These scintillating performances bought the 27 year old to the attention of George and Francis Warren, who quickly signed him to their Queensberry Promotions organisation after which they presented Williams the opportunity to challenge Rob Norton for his British crown.

Leon ‘Solid’ Williams versus Rob Norton for the British Cruiserweight Championship headlines the Francis and George Warren’s Queensberry Promotions event at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London, and broadcast live on BoxNation (Sky Platform Ch. 456), on Friday the 21st October 2011.

Heading up the support card for this battle of the big boys will pitch Cromer, Norfolk’s Ryan Walsh against Melsham, Wiltshire’s Liam Richards for the vacant English Super Bantamweight title.

The stacked undercard also features the UK debut of unbeaten Irishman Dean ‘Irish Lightning’ Byrne, Penge’s unbeaten Welterweight Bradley Skeet, Croydon Light Welter Danny Davis and the debut of Peckham Welterweight John Garton, all against yet to be named opponents.

Tickets, priced £40 (standard seated) and £60 (ringside) for Williams vs. Norton are available now, either direct from Leon Williams – tickets are also be available at the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym, Gillian House, Stephenson Street, Canning Town, London E16 4SA and on-line at www.tkoboxoffice.com
