Former Amateur Star Alex Theran Joins Team Colombia
Posted on | October 20, 2011 | No Comments
TOTOWA, NJ/ORANGE, CA (October XX, 2011) — The signing of former world amateur star, power-punching Alex “The Prince” Theran, has bolstered an already strong Team Colombia, which is co-promoted by Gary Shaw Productions and Thompson Boxing Promotions.
Theran joins world-rated boxers Darley Perez, Daulis Prescott and Yonnhy Perez, as well as 2008 Colombia Olympian Jhonatan “Momo” Romero, on Team Colombia.
“We’re building a powerhouse with some of the leading fighters in the world on Team Colombia” Shaw said, “Not only was Theran one of top Colombian amateurs of all-time, he was one of the best in the world, and we’re very excited to add him in our growing stable of contenders and promising prospects.”
The 20-year-old Theran may have learned how to box at the dinner table as one of 15 siblings. The powerful southpaw had 180 amateur fights, highlighted by four National championships, two as a junior (under 18). Theran captured top honors at an International tournament in Cuba, as well as a tournament in the Dominican Republic. He was also a Silver Medalist in the South American Games.
Theran’s much-anticipated pro debut was this past July 27 in his hometown of Barranguilla, in which he knocked out Leo Cassiani only 34-seconds into the opening round. Sixteen days later, “The Prince” needed 1:18 to stop Gabriel Bracho. The accelerated pace of his young pro career continued September 30 as the fearless Theran won a unanimous six-round decision versus 34-fight, battled tested veteran Oney Valdez (22-11-1), a former WBO Latino and WBA Fedecentro champion, who was knocked out of the ring by Alex at one point.
“Alex Theran can easily be one of the best prospects out there,” added Alex Camponovo, Thompson Boxing’s General Manager. “I have seen how strong and sharp this kid is and I am proud he is part of the Thompson/ Shaw family of future champions. He will soon make a splash in America.”
Go online to www.garyshawproductions or www.thompsonboxing.com for additional information about Team Colombia. |

Heaven is For Real Author Todd Burpo talks to Takedown Wrestling
Posted on | October 19, 2011 | No Comments
The book ‘Heaven Is For Real’ is a Huge Hit! Author and former wrestling coach Todd Burpo talks to Takedown Wrestling.
‘Heaven Is For Real’ – the story of what Pastor Todd Burpo believes was his son’s trip to heaven –Enjoy Burpo’s new interview with Takedown Wrestling’s Scott Casber, you just might believe too!
October 19, 2011
Burpo says his young son Colton told him that during emergency surgery he traveled to heaven. There he saw Jesus, John the Baptist, his great-grandfather, and his younger sister who died in a miscarriage.
“Heaven Is For Real,” written by Todd Burpo with Lynn Vincent, has been a runaway best-seller since it was first published. It remains number one on the New York Times paperback bestseller list.
The book tells the story of Burpo’s then 4 year old son Colton, who was rushed into emergency surgery for a burst appendix. Over months and years since surgery, Colton told his parents that he had gone to heaven while he was unconscious and described seeing Jesus, John the Baptist, his great-grandfather, and his younger sister who died in a miscarriage – something his parents say they never told him about.
Todd Burpo is a pastor and a former wrestling coach who runs a garage door company with his wife Sonja in a small town in Nebraska. “I want my son to know I tell the truth,” he told Takedown’s Casber. “He read the book and knows if I exaggerated. My son is forever going to believe that I’m an honest person by what I wrote.”
Burpo wrote “Heaven Is For Real” with Lynn Vincent after Colton began to tell him very matter-of-fact stories about what he had seen. His parents say that Colton described meeting his younger sister, who he said has dark hair, when they had never told him about their miscarriage. Colton also described his great-grandfather and pointed him out in an old photograph. His parents said he mentioned images like wounds in Jesus’ hands that he had not seen before.
Burpo began to bring up parts of Colton’s story in his services. Later, Burpo and his wife Sonja met an agent working for a Christian literary agency through a friend. Promotion for the book involved appearances on “Fox & Friends,” CNN, and the program “The 700 Club,” b “Heaven Is For Real” publisher Thomas Nelson says the book has broken all previous sales records.
Burpo says Colton read the book before it was published and assured him that everything was correct.
“It didn’t put me to sleep,” Colton told USA Today.
Colton is now 12 and told the New York Times that he was happy people have enjoyed the book.
“People are getting blessed, and they’re going to have healing from their hurts,” said Colton, who now plays the piano and trumpet and like his dad is happy to take to the mats for wrestling. “I’m happy for that.”
