Lion Fight Promotions announced today that it has added a world interim middleweight (160 pounds) title bout and co-main event pitting champion Ky Hollenbeck (18-1)of San Francisco, Calif. against challenger Simon Chu (29-6) of Leeds, England to its highly-anticipated World Boxing Council (WBC)-sanctioned Muay Thai fight card at Star of the Desert Arena in Primm, Nev. on Sat., Aug. 20.
Additionally, the previously announced middleweight (*contracted weight of 155 pounds for this bout) matchup between Chaz Mulkey (6-4) of Las Vegas and Remy Bonnel (55-7) of Miami, Fla. has been upgraded to a WBC interim international title fight. The previously announced bout between Joe Schilling (10-1) of Los Angeles, Calif. and Brandon Banda (5-1) of Concord, Calif. has likewise been promoted to a title bout with the vacant WBC USA light heavyweight (175 pounds) crown at stake.
Tickets for Lion Fight Promotions’ stacked WBC world championship Muay Thai event are on sale and can be purchased at the Primm Valley Casino Resorts ticket office (702-386-7867), Ticketmaster by phone at (800) 745-3000 and online at Ticketmaster.com and LionFightPromotions.com.
“(Chu)’s got a high KO percentage. I like fighting fighters who make me fight my hardest, and this seems like it’s going to be one of those fights, so it’s going to be an exciting one,” said the 24-year-old Hollenbeck who has made waves in both the professional Muay Thai and Mixed Martial Arts world with an explosive and, at times, unorthodox style of fighting. Hollenbeck fights out of the San Francisco, Calif. based World Team USA under head trainer Sam Phimsoutham. “I like to bring a couple of tricks with me every time I fight to throw my opponent off and make things difficult for him to deal with.”
“Fans can expect an explosive fight as I always come to win,” said the 33-year-old Chu, whose appearance will mark his debut in The United States. A strong technical fighter with quick hands and powerful kicks, Chu is a four-time British Muay Thai champion who has faced and defeated some of the best competitors throughout Europe. “It means a lot to me to be fighting for a WBC title as it is the most recognized organization. I’ve always wanted one of their green belts around my waist.”
“We are excited about producing another card loaded with some of the finest Muay Thai talent on the planet,” said Scott Kent, president of Lion Fight Promotions. “Muay Thai is an incredible martial art and combat sport that requires its athletes to be skilled in every area of striking – from punches and kicks to elbow and knee strikes – and Lion Fight Promotions is committed to bringing fans the best possible matchups between the world’s greatest fighters in this fast-growing sport.”
In the main event, two-time world Muay Thai champion Cosmo Alexandre (40-13) of Brazil will square off with five-time Muay Thai champion and multi-title Lumpinee Stadium champion Sakmongkol Sitchuchoke “Zingano” (228-19) of Broomfield, Colo. via Thailand in a middleweight (*contracted weight of 155 pounds for this bout) “Superfight.” In addition to his two titles, Alexandre won the coveted, annual King’s Cup tournament in Bangkok, Thailand on Dec. 5, 2009.
Sitchuchoke is coming off a third round (TKO victory over James Martinez, a K-1 USA veteran and contestant on the 2008 first season of The Contender Asia, the Mark Burnett-created reality television series that documented 16 Muay Thai fighters from 12 different countries as they competed for a prize of $150,000. Sitchuchoke consistently beat Martinez to the punch throughout the matchup and broke Martinez’s arm with repeated round kicks aimed at the head and body.
Women’s Muay Thai and MMA star Jeri Sitzes (3-0) of Springfield, Mo. defend her WBC international title against Misty Sutherland (1-0) of Calgary, Canada. Sitzes captured her title on Aug. 28, 2010 by scoring a second round (2:06) TKO on Australia’s Joanna MacEachern with a flurry of straight punches. For full fight card and more details about this event, visit gfl.tv or click here
Absolute Action MMA Presents AAMMA XVII
Sat Aug 20 7:30PM ET
Click here to watch this event on GoFightLive!
Kentucky’s #1 MMA promotion returns on August 20, as Absolute Action MMA presents Absolute Action MMA XVII – Stacked, August 20, from Florence, KY. Fight fans, this is a card that is pressed down, shaken up and overflowing as 24 bouts are scheduled for this event! AAMMA is the premier MMA organization in the Bluegrass State and one of the Southeast region’s top cage-fighting promotion’s. You always get competitive, quality MMA with Absolute Action MMA.
The card is headlined by 3 title fights. In one bout, Eric Moell (7-1) fights Tyler Stover (4-1) for the AAMMA Amateur Bantamweight Championship. Moell is the reigning 135 lb champion and this will be the 5th title fight in his career. No stranger to main events, Moell will look to utilize his speed and grappling ability against his bigger opponent. Moell has 4 of his 7 wins coming by submission and will look to grab a hold of an arm or secure a choke on Stover. For Stover, he will have the strength advantage as he has fought previously at 155 lb and will look to nullify Moell’s fast start. This will be Stover’s first title fight so he will have to battle the butterflies early in the fight. Expect this fight to be a barnburner as bantamweights are some of the most exciting fighters in all of MMA.
In the co-main event, Ryan Debelak (4-1) battles Kelly Pennington (3-0) for the AAMMA Amateur Light Heavyweight Championship. Debelak usually fights at heavyweight, so the cut down to 205 lb should give him an advantage on the mat and in the clinch. For the undefeated Pennington, he has never had a fight go out of the first round with all 3 of his wins coming by KO or TKO. Pennington will look to throw heavy leather in the opening seconds, so don’t blink. Debelak is the more battle-tested fighter and his experience could pay dividends in this championship bout.
In the other co-main event, Joshua “Tank” Franklin (6-10-1) fights Andrew Fogg (5-0) for the AAMMA Amateur Heavyweight Championship. For the Champion Franklin this is another opportunity to show the fans that his record is a bit misleading. A grizzled veteran of 17 fights, Franklin has seen it all inside of the cage and he looks to deliver the first loss to the undefeated Fogg. For Fogg, already a champion with another organization, a victory against Franklin could show that he is the top amateur heavyweight in Kentucky and a blue-chip prospect. There will be a lot on the line in this title fight.
You won’t find more BANG for your buck so order this thrilling event. Be sure to catch all of the action LIVE on August 20 as Absolute Action presents Absolute Action MMA XVII – Stacked on pay-per-view exclusively at GFL.tv.For full fight card and more details about this event, visit gfl.tv or click here

He also was a part of the coaching staff at Oklahoma State as an administrative assistant as well as assisting with the development of numerous All-American wrestlers there during his tenure.

FOX SPORTS MEDIA GROUP REACHES MULTI-YEAR, MULTI-MEDIA RIGHTS AGREEMENT WITH ULTIMATE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP
FOX to Broadcast Four Fights Annually Beginning November 2011
The Ultimate Fighter, Featuring a New Format, Moves to FX
Los Angeles – Today, Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC), the world’s leading mixed martial arts organization and No. 1 Pay-Per-View event provider in the world, finds its perfect media match in FOX, the No. 1 television network in the country. FOX Sports Media Group, the umbrella entity representing FOX Networks Group’s wide array of sports platforms, has reached a multi-year, multi-media rights agreement with Zuffa, LLC, owner of the UFC brand.
The landmark agreement, which puts UFC on par with many of the country’s professional sports organizations, delivers four live events in prime time or late night each year to the FOX broadcast network, home to the country’s biggest sports events, including the Super Bowl, World Series and Daytona 500. The first live event airs Saturday, Nov. 12 at 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PM PT. Additional programming on multiple FOX networks launches January 2012 and includes live fights, pre and post shows, countdown shows, UFC Unleashed, UFC Primetime, the UFC Knockout series, Best of Pride, weigh-in specials, and much more original content from extensive Zuffa archives. The agreement also provides for developing robust mobile and authenticated online offerings to exploit a vast array of digital platform rights.
In spring 2012, THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER, UFC’s signature weekly reality show moves to FX, FOX’s general entertainment cable network now in more than 99 million homes. With the move to FX, the show will feature a newly-designed format. FX is also set to televise another four-to six-live UFC events annually, with a mixture of additional events and programs heading to FSMG cable networks including FUEL TV.
“We’re excited to be part of the FOX family,” says Dana White, UFC President. “The UFC is finally where it belongs on the number one network in the country and aligned with the most prestigious sports properties in the world. I’ve always said that the UFC will be the biggest sport in the world and with this relationship it will become a reality.”
“My brother Frank, Dana and I always believed that our passion for the sport of Mixed Martial Arts would help us to build the UFC into a successful global brand and ultimately make it one of the premier sports properties in the world,” said Lorenzo Fertitta, Chairman and CEO of the UFC. “The partnership with FOX is a major step in making this a reality and also builds on the great relationship that we already have established with FOX in Latin America, Australia and Europe.”
“Mixed martial arts is not only the fastest growing sport in the world, but also the world’s most exciting form of man-to-man competition, and the UFC is the world’s premier MMA organization,” said FSMG President & Co-COO Eric Shanks. “Since FOX Sports is America’s No. 1 sports network and FOX is America’s No. 1 network for young adults, the UFC on FOX is a perfect match.”
“UFC’s growth over the past decade is nothing short of phenomenal and it has become one of the marquee sports in this country,” said John Landgraf, President and General Manager, FX Networks. “There is a reason for its rising popularity. It features some of the greatest athletes in the world, and we believe it will be a terrific addition to our schedule and look forward to our relationship.”
Founded in 1993, UFC has been on a meteoric rise since 2001 when it was acquired by Zuffa, LLC, owned by Lorenzo Fertitta, Frank Fertitta III and Dana White. UFC’S first brush with FOX Sports goes back to June 2002, when Fox Sports Net carried UFC’s first non-pay-per-view event on basic cable television, and delivered what was then its largest audience to date. Through cooperation with state athletic commissions, consistent rules were established and refined for competition through officiating, judging, the addition of weight divisions, length of rounds and better equipment. Combined with an unyielding devotion to fighter safety, the UFC has vaulted to mainstream status in the minds of US sports fans attracting major sponsors such as Bud Light, Dodge and Harley Davidson.
UFC has displayed tremendous growth in digital and social media consumption. Unique visitors to UFC.com tripled between 2006 and 2010 (2.1 million to 6.3 million), and UFC established local web sites in 10 countries and Latin America. Using a unique blend of incentives, promotions and original content, including live bouts, UFC has seen its number of Facebook friends increase from 800,000 in 2009 to 6.1 million at present, outpacing the NFL, MLB and the NHL. UFC currently ranks second to the NBA in social media followers among the major sports organizations. Additionally, UFC President Dana White regularly interacts with over 1.5 million fans that follow him on Twitter.
Mixed martial arts skews much younger than more established US sports, which ranged from age 43 for Super Bowl XLIV to 61 for horse racing’s Triple Crown in 2010. Thus far, the median age for UFC on Spike in 2011 is 36 and 56% of UFC fans fall into the adult 18-34 demographic. Live UFC programming performs extremely well in the advertiser attractive, hard-to-reach male 18-34 demographic, with live event programing averaging a 1.53 rating, making it a top-20 cable show this year.

Edwin ‘La Bomba’ Rodriguez following in Lou Brouillard’s footsteps in Worcester

Undefeated Dominican boxer headlines Broadway Boxing show Sat. Night in
400thall-time pro boxing show held at Historic Mechanics Hall
WORCESTER, Mass. (August 18, 2011) – Historic Mechanics Hall hosts its 400thdocumented professional boxing show Saturday night, when Worcester’s adopted son, undefeated super middleweight sensation Edwin “La Bomba”Rodriguez, fights at home for the third time in his relatively young career.
The 26-year-old Dominican Republic native (18-0, 13 KOs) headlines a special edition of Broadway Boxing, presented by DiBella Entertainment, against intra-state rival and Iraq War veteran Chris Traietti (10-2, 6 KOs), of Quincy, in a 10-round bout.
Mechanics Hall has been a venue for pro boxing since 1920, but for a 41-year stretch it didn’t host a prizefighting show, until Rodriguez fought there in 2009 and again last year. Edwin relocated in Worcester from the Dominican Republic whenhe was 13, unable to speak a single word of English. Today, he’s a bi-lingual chess enthusiast who many consider leading 168-pound prospect in the world.
Back in the late twenties, like Edwin did many years later, Lou Brouillard (108-29-2, 66 KOs) moved to Worcester, and then went on to become world middleweight champion in 1933. The French-Canadian southpaw fought in Mechanics Hall nine times between 1929 and 1940, highlighted by his New England light heavyweight title-winning fight in 1938 versus Johnny Rossi (WTKO10).
Rodriguez, who trained the past two months in Houston with new chief second Ronnie Shields, had written into his contract that he’d fight a minimum of three times at home within three years. “I love fighting at home in front of my family, friends and fans,” Edwin said. “Being away from my family wasn’t fun, “but I did it so we’d all have a better life. They motivate me. Training in Houston was like training in Massachusetts. The air is thick there and it was very, very hot. We had wars in the gym and getting good sparring like I did will help take me to the next level.”
Rodriguez started boxing in 2001 and he developed into one of the top amateurs in the United States, compiling a solid 84-9 record that included gold-medal performances in the 2005 USA Boxing National Championships and 2006 U.S. National Golden Gloves Tournament. Rodriguez, who has dual citizenship in the U.S. and Dominican Republic, became the first Massachusetts boxer to win the middleweight title at the Nationals since “Marvelous”Marvin Hagler in 1973.
Saturday night’s Broadway Boxing show showcases the return of former WBA junior middleweight championJoachim Alcine (32-2, 19 KOs) vs. upset specialist Jose “Stinger” Medina (14-9-2, 6 KOs), from Quincy. Also seeing action are two other boxers from Traietti’s hometown of Quincy –Rodriguez’ stable-mate junior lightweightRyan“The Polish Prince” Kielczewski (10-0, 2 KOs) vs. James Lester (9-5, 4 KOs), and Gabriel Duluc (1-0, 1 KO) vs. Springfield (MA) junior welterweight Noel Garcia. Also scheduled to be in action are popular, female heavyweightSonya “The Scholar” Lamonakis (5-0, 1 KO), fighting out of New York City, vs. Tiffany Woodard (4-4-1, 3 KOs); unbeaten Louisiana heavyweight prospect Kelvin Price (10-0, 6 KO) vs. Joseph Rabotte, and New Haven super bantamweight Luis “The KO King” Rosa(7-0, 5 KOs) vs. Shawn “Bones” Nichol (5-6, 5 KOs). All fights and fighters are subject to change.
Tickets for Broadway Boxing are on sale now through DiBella Entertainment, and start at only $35. Main Floor tickets are priced at $55, $75, and $125. Rear Balcony tickets are $35 and $75. Tables for groups of 10 are priced at $1,000. Tickets can be purchased by calling DiBella Entertainment: (212) 947-2577 and through the Mechanics Hall box office at (508) 752-0888.
