We Are All Warriors: Inspired By The September 9th Release Of Lionsgate’s WARRIOR, Multi-Tiered Campaign Celebrates Everyday Warriors Among Us
Posted on | August 11, 2011 | No Comments
Winner Of Associated Sweepstakes Sponsored by AMC Theatres® To Receive Free Hometown Premiere Of WARRIOR
Santa Monica, CA, August 11, 2011 – The upcoming release of the film WARRIOR, in theatres everywhere on September 9th, has inspired “We Are All Warriors,” a national grassroots and online initiative to identify everyday heroes – the real life warriors among us.
The project is an opportunity for people all over the country to join together to share their stories and answer the central question of WARRIOR: “What Do You Fight For?” From our teachers and coaches to our athletes and veterans, we all fight for something – we are all warriors. At www.WeAreAllWarriors.com, project participants can answer the question in their own words, nominate another everyday warrior, vote for their favorite warriors and rally friends and family to share their contender via Facebook and Twitter.
“We Are All Warriors” will be promoted through media, corporate and non-profit partnerships on both national and local levels. With word first spreading through a series of ESPN-sponsored screenings of the much anticipated and inspiring film, which Edward Douglas of Comingsoon.net has called “as powerful and unforgettable as ROCKY,” the program now expands in its official partnership capacity to include a national promotion with AMC Theatres centered around a sweepstakes where one everyday warrior will receive a free hometown premiere of the film at the nearest AMC theatre.
Said WARRIOR’s director Gavin O’Connor of the initiative, “Everyone fights for something- from parents struggling to support families through tough economic times, to soldiers defending democracy, to teachers combating illiteracy, we fight for things that we believe in. I made this film to celebrate that quality of the warrior within us all, and am proud that this project is reaching out to so many people and inviting them to join in honoring those individuals who embody the qualities of a true everyday warrior. It all comes down to the question, “What Do You Fight For?’ and the broad range of partners and participants so far shows how universal and important this topic is.”
All of the project’s inspirational submissions will remain on the website to be shared with the world – a true army of some of America’s most extraordinary citizens is already forming, including Massachusetts’ lieutenant Governor Timothy Murray who fights for his constituents, beloved wrestler Anthony Robles, submitted by ESPN, who fought to ascend in his sport despite having lost a leg, Dolores Bastrop, nominated by her husband for her tireless fight for the poor, and Mike Hardin, nominated by a “proud neighbor” for fighting for life, when he rescued a mother and child from a mobile home that had erupted in fire in while they slept.
The website will also regularly feature video diaries from both everyday warriors and celebrity guests including prominent bloggers, parents, coaches, troops, actors athletes, and pastors, answering the film’s central question ‘What Do You Fight For?’ in their own words.
About WARRIOR
Rising stars Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton command the screen as two estranged brothers facing the fight of a lifetime in Lionsgate’s WARRIOR, a moving, inspirational action drama from acclaimed director Gavin O’Connor (Miracle).
Haunted by a tragic past, Marine Tommy Conlon (Hardy) returns home for the first time in fourteen years to enlist the help of his father (Nick Nolte) to train for Sparta, the biggest winner-takes-all event in mixed martial arts history. A former wrestling prodigy, Tommy blazes a path toward the championship while his brother, Brendan (Edgerton), an ex-fighter-turned teacher, returns to the ring in a desperate bid to save his family from financial ruin. But when Brendan’s unlikely, underdog rise sets him on a collision course with the unstoppable Tommy, the two brothers must finally confront each other and the forces that pulled them apart, facing off in the most soaring, soul stirring, and unforgettable climax that must be seen to be believed.
A rousing ode to redemption, reconciliation and the power of the human spirit, WARRIOR is also a moving testament to the enduring bonds of family. WARRIOR stars Joel Edgerton (Animal Kingdom, Star Wars: Episode III), Tom Hardy (the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Black Hawk Down), Jennifer Morrison (“House”, Star Trek) and Nick Nolte (Tropic Thunder, The Thin Red Line). The film is directed by Gavin O’Connor; screenplay by Gavin O’Connor & Anthony Tambakis & Cliff Dorman and story by Gavin O’Connor & Cliff Dorfman. Lionsgate and Mimran Schur Pictures present a Lionsgate / Mimran Schur Pictures production. A Solaris Entertainment and Filmtribe production.

TEAM PALOOKA MAKES SMASHING DEBUT AT UFC® 133
Posted on | August 11, 2011 | No Comments
Ridgewood, New Jersey (USA): This past Saturday at UFC® 133, Team Palooka’s Johny Hendricks pounded out a 3-round decision over tough veteran Mike Pierce in an exciting, satisfying fight. In fact, the powers that be at the UFC® went so far as to add the fight to their PPV broadcast after the main and co-main events ended early. Of the six fights that the UFC® could have chosen to add to the PPV card, the Hendricks victory was exactly the type of crowd pleasing battle to add to the action-packed PPV card.
Hendricks, an Oklahoma native and 4-time All American college wrestler at Oklahoma State University made his way to the cage in Philadelphia wearing Team Palooka gear, which was making its debut.
“Johny Hendricks is EXACTLY the type of MMA fighter that Palooka Gear wants to be partners with,” said “Joe Palooka” and “Legion of Combat” MMA comic book series creator Joe Antonacci. “Johny knows that everything begins and ends with the fans and making them happy. The UFC® gets that, and so does Johny Hendricks and the entire Team Takedown.”
Antonacci, who drove to Philadelphia and spent four days meeting with almost two-dozen UFC® fighters and their teams, was blown away by fighters’ excitement over the “Joe Palooka” MMA comic and the hospitality extended by everyone at the UFC®. “From the top to the bottom, everyone in this organization understands the importance of giving the fans access, excitement, and value. At Palooka.com, and the comics ‘Joe Palooka’ and ‘Legion of Combat,’ we are proud to be associated with the UFC®, their fighters, and, of course, their fans. We handed out dozens of tee-shirts, postcards, and headbands, and the fan reaction was tremendous. And like the UFC®, Team Palooka is determined to work day and night to keep the fans 100% stoked with our product.”
When asked about the immediate plans for more Team Palooka/UFC® fighter sponsorships, Antonacci said, “We plan to be represented at every UFC® show we possibly can, either in-person or by our Team Palooka fighters. We know that the fans will love our comics and our gear as much as they love the fighters who they’ll see proudly wearing it into the UFC® Octagon™.”
“The MMA audience is young, passionate and very loyal,” continued Antonacci. “When I showed fans our shirts, artwork samples and gear at 133, they immediately understood what Joe Palooka the character and the comic book are all about, and they can’t wait to get more.
“In addition, the fighters themselves loved the idea of an MMA comic, and wanted to know more about the book, its characters, when it’s coming out, and how they can get involved with Team Palooka.” So, what are the plans? “We will have UFC® fighters in our books, playing both fighting and action hero roles,” explains Antonacci. “The ‘Joe Palooka’ and ‘Legion of Combat’ stories will be action-packed adventure tales that our readers will really be able to get involved in. There will be action and adventure taking place all over the globe. And I guarantee you, that they’ll be some very familiar faces in there for MMA fans to root for as they turn the pages of these exciting new comic books. The fans can’t wait for the action to start and neither can we. Look for the books both online at Palooka.com and in stores in late 2011” concluded Antonacci.

What the fighters had to say Wednesday:
JOSEPH KING KONG AGBEKO
“I feel good, actually, great and I’m very happy to be back and fighting. I was never afraid that I would not fight again. I was surprised a thing like this could happen to me, but I knew in my heart that my career was not going to end this way. I mostly felt very bad that our first fight could not come off as scheduled.
“I have trained for nine weeks and my camp was excellent. At no point did I feel weak and now it is all behind my and I am focusing on Mares.
“There is no way I am going to lose this fight. I don’t watch a lot of tape on my future opponents and I have only seen a few rounds of Mares’ fight against Yhonny Perez, but I know he is a very good, fast, aggressive fighter with a big future in this sport.
“I have prepared for everything he brings. He may be the one running in this fight.
“I have dedicated this fight to my youngest child, Keira, who turns five six days after the fight. My motivation comes from both my kids.
“I am the only champion in boxing now from Ghana and I plan to continue to carry the torch from Azumah Nelson. Whether you are watching in the arena or on SHOWTIME, it is going to be a great, great fight on Saturday. The winner deserves to be recognized as the No. 1 bantamweight in the world.’’
ABNER MARES
“Naturally, it was difficult for me when our fight was cancelled, but eventually I got over it. I took a few weeks off and then was back in the gym. My camp was different this time around. We changed it up, first when I was in Mexico and then when I was in Santa Fe Springs (Calif.), just so I wouldn’t get stale.
“Actually, this camp went by fast and now my training’s done. I’m in great shape and very excited about fighting on Saturday.I’m totally focused and ready to explode.
“I look at this as my hardest fight, but winning the IBF belt and the SHOWTIME tourney on one night is something that can really set my career in motion. There are lots of opportunities for the winner after Saturday.
“I definitely believe the winner of this tournament should be called the top bantamweight in the world. To be the best, you have to fight the best and that’s what we have done. Other guys were invited to participate, but declined. That’s their business, but I’m sure I’ll be fighting one of them at some point.
“A chance to become the first homegrown Golden Boy world champion is very exciting to me. I definitely would like to be the first, but I don’t feel any nervous pressure.
“I’m really grateful for everyone involved in making this fight happen and for this tournament. Everyone knows that boxing’s little guys make the best fights. Fans are in for a real treat on Saturday.’’
ANGELO SANTANA
“This is my first fight since December and my first at 140 pounds. I am very excited to be getting back in the ring again. It doesn’t matter against whom. I’m also excited about fighting in Las Vegas again.
“It took me 12 times before I made it to the United States from Cuba, but I knew I was never going to give up on that dream no matter the consequences. I’ve been here about four years.
“My goal Saturday is to win and then fight as often as I can. If I have to continue to fight at 140 to stay busy, I will. Whenever I get the call, you can bet I’ll be ready.”
ERIC MOREL
“I’m calling out all the big names at 118 pounds. They all know what time it is. My goal is win another world title, which would make me a three-time champion.
“I feel if I continue to win, my chance will come, but I understand that it’s not just winning that matters, but how you win, and I hope to be impressive Saturday night.
“I’ve trained very hard and there is no way I am taking an opponent lightly. There is too much at stake. Of course, I would love to fight the winner of Agbeko-Mares.’’
ERIC MOLINA
“I want to become the first Mexican-American heavyweight champion. I lost my pro debut but have won 17 in a row since.
“I think my trainer, Al Bonanni, would like me to show a little more killer instinct. Being a college graduate he thinks I’m too nice a guy in the ring.
“I’ve been training really hard and I’m really looking forward to a good performance.’’
