CHISORA-FURY GRUDGE CLASH CAUSES SECURITY FEAR

LONDON (July 21, 2011) — Promoter Mick Hennessy has revealed that he has had a request to draft in extra security for tomorrow’s weigh-in for Saturday night’s British and Commonwealth heavyweight title clash between champion Dereck Chisora and challenger Tyson Fury.

Hennessy, who is staging the grudge clash at Wembley Arena, says the bad blood between the two fighters runs deep, to the point that the British Boxing Board of Control has banned the traditional face-off at the weigh-in, which takes place tomorrow at the Crown Moran Hotel in Cricklewood, London.

Hennessy said: “The war of words between Tyson and Chisora has had a real edge to it and we have a genuine grudge clash on our hands and the British Boxing Board of Control have put in place a number of restrictions for the weigh-in.

“It just shows you how much this fight means to both fighters. We know that Tyson has had some tough words for Chisora and Chisora has no time for Tyson so it should make for a great fight.

“We just don’t want the fight starting at the weigh-in so there will be a lot of security to make sure the two fighters stay apart. But come fight time I’m convinced that there will only be one winner and that’s Tyson.

“Chisora backed away from the press conference this week, he and his team refused to attend the press conference on Monday but come this Saturday there will be no hiding place in the ring.”

Keisher “Fire” McLeod-Wells steps back into the ring on July 30th against Melissa “Mighty” McMorrow at The Aviator Sports & Event Center.

McLeod-Wells (4-1) is coming off a unanimous decision win on February 9th, 2011 against current NYS Champion Melissa “Mighty” McMorrow. In what was a tough outing, McLeod-Wells won a unanimous decision by showing her boxing skills to her opponent and is now looking forward to a rematch to win the NYS Championship Belt in her next challenge. That challenge will come again with McMorrow from California, now (5-2-3) who herself is coming off a split decision win on June 24, 2011 over Eileen Olszewski from New York.

McLeod-Wells is looking forward to returning the NYS Championship Belt back to New York where it belongs.

Kid Blast Back in Action July 29

Cuban power-punching sensation Rances “Kid Blast” Barthelemy (12-0, 10 KOs) will be looking to stretch his knockout streak to eight when he appears in one of the main supporting bouts of the “FIGHT NIGHTS” at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on July 29.   It’s not hard to figure why they call 24-year-old Barthelemy “Kid Blast” once the leather starts flying.   Barthelemy is a monster puncher with both hands. Standing an amazing 5′ 11″ for his 130-lb weight class, he towers over his opponents and then puts them to sleep with his twin blasters.   The younger brother of 2004 Olympic Gold medalist and current pro prospect Yan Barthelemy – Rances had an impressive amateur career, competing in 200 fights and earning the Cuban junior national championship before defecting to the United States a couple years ago.   Since turning pro, he has made believers out of fans around the United States by battering every opponent put in front of him in convincing fashion.   Part of the credit for Barthelemy’s impressive progress must be given to his formidable support team including trainer Orlando Cuellar (known for the miracles he has worked with multiple world champion Glen Johnson), well-respected super manager Henry Foster and co-promoters Richard Dobral of Bad Dog Promotions and Leon Margules of Warrior’s Boxing.   Barthelemy will be taking a considerable jump forward in experience when he faces Kansas City’s Gerardo Robles (14-9, 6 KO`s) over eight rounds. Tim Palen is an American photographer and Lionsgate’s Chief Marketing Officer. Peter ‘Kid Chocolate’ Quillin ready to hit curveball out of park

LAS VEGAS (July 21 2011) – Undefeated middleweight prospect Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin may be a prizefighter, rather than a baseball player, but never-the-less the talented Cuban-American plans to hit a curveball out of the park Saturday night in Las Vegas.

 

Coming off of an explosive third-round destruction of former world title challenger Jesse Brinkley this past April for the USBO super middleweight title, Quillin (24-0, 18 KOs) prepared for the last eight weeks to fight once again in his natural weight class against veteran middleweight “Marvelous” Tarvis Simms (27-1-1, 11 KOs), a southpaw, in a10-round bout on Saturday night’s Amir Khan vs. Zab Judah undercard at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

 

Quillin-Simms, however, was recently cancelled when Tarvis reportedly broke a rib in training camp. Now, the International Boxing Federation No. 5-rated Quillin, fighting out of Los Angeles, faced an entirely different fighter,Jason “The Hammer” LeHoullier (21-5-1, 8 KOs).

 

“I sparred and trained to fight a southpaw, Simms, and now I’m fighting a right-handed boxer,” Quillin said. “Hey, I’m a fighter and I can adjust to anybody. When Simms fell out all I cared about was still fighting. Jason LeHoullier stepped in and took a fight with 1 ½ weeks to go and that’s something not many guys would do against a top-level fighter like me. I’m not taking anything away from him because fighters like him can be dangerous. He may be coming in here trying to shock the world, tired of hearing people say he can’t win, and that could cause problems. But I am totally focused on him. I know he’s a guy who puts it all on the line, but he’s facing a guy who can box and is a big puncher. I’m going to set him up and, then, bang like a firecracker.”

 

Quillin has received a lot of attention lately because his trainer, Freddie Roach, went public saying ‘Kid Chocolate” can beat world middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. “I would have been ready to fight Sergio Martinez on July 23,”Quillin added. “Physically, I’m ready and I would have been 10 times more ready mentally for that fight. For now, though, I’m 100-percent focused on Jason LeHoullier. After this fight I’ll be ready to fight anybody in the world, including Sergio Martinez. The sky’s the limit for me. If everything goes right Saturday night, I’d like to comeback right away and fight September 17. But I’m not into the business end of boxing, I’m a fighter, and I’ll let my promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, and manager, John Seip, take care of that.”

 

Quillin-LeHoullier is a scheduled 10-round bout on the non-televised portion of the Khan-Judah world junior welterweight unification fight on HBO.
