Alejandro Luna and Raul Marquez to Call the Action from Ringside
Saturday, Feb. 11, Live at 9 p.m. ET/PT
From The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
NEW YORK (Jan. 25, 2012)—SHOWTIME® Sports will offer secondary audio programming (SAP) in Spanish for the upcoming Victor Ortiz-Andre Berto II blockbuster on Saturday, Feb. 11, live onSHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast), from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Alejando Luna will call the play-by-play action and Raul Marquez will serve as color commentator for the SAP telecast.
Luna is well known in the Spanish-language sports community as the on-air host for Fox Sports en Espanol’s coverage of Mexican Soccer, Copa Santander Libertadores and Copa Nissan Sudamericana. Luna also serves as Fox Sports en Espanol’s play-by-play announcer for the Italian Serie A and UEFA Champions League.
Marquez was a representative for the 1992 U.S. Olympic boxing team in Barcelona, Spain and is a former International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior middleweight champion. He is currently a commentator for various Spanish boxing broadcasts and helps train his son, Arturo Marquez, an amateur boxer and Golden Gloves champion.
Ten months after their classic slugfest that was named 2011 “Fight of the Year” (USA Today, Ring Magazine), former World Champions Ortiz (29-3-2, 22 KO’s), of Ventura, Calif., and Berto (28-1, 22 KO’s), of Winter Haven, Fla., will square off again. The eagerly awaited 12-round fight is a rematch of a fiercely contested, multiple-knockdown affair on April 16, 2011, that Ortiz won by a unanimous decision (114-112, 114-111 and 115-110) while capturing Berto’s World Boxing Council (WBC) 147-pound title. Both fighters were knocked down twice in the fight, with Berto being dropped in the first, Ortiz going down a round later and each of them hitting the deck in a wild sixth round that many called the “Round of the Year” for 2011.
“Repeat or Revenge: Ortiz vs. Berto II” is the highly anticipated 12-round welterweight rematch of USA Today and Ring Magazine’s 2011 Fight of the Year between former World Champions “Vicious” Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto which will take place Saturday, Feb. 11 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. The event is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and DiBella Entertainment. It will air live on SHOWTIME Championship Boxing at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast). A special three-fight undercard will air live on SHOWTIME EXTREME beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast).

DONALD TRUMP, 50-CENT, ICE CUBE, DR. J AND JIMY HETTES? AZAD WANTS UFC FIGHTERS AND SUPPORTERS TO BE THEIR NEXT FANS
Posted on | January 24, 2012 | 1 Comment
New York, NY (USA): Azad Watches, fine watch-maker, is all about high quality. With celebrities such as Donald Trump, Eva Longoria, “Dr. J” Julius Erving, Ice Cube, Tony Bennett, and Piers Morgan having sported their time-pieces, Azad recently brought its brand of quality into the MMA world when it sponsored UFC fighters Nick Pace, Jimy Hettes and Mike Massenzio . In addition, the company has signed on to become a main advertising sponsor of the first-ever full-length, full-color MMA comic book, “Joe Palooka.”
In short, the New York-based watchmaker has jumped head-first into the fight world, and wants MMA fans to know that those looking for a quality watch need look no further than Azad.
“We’ve been able to connect with football players and other sports celebrities, but we figure MMA is a great sport to get into,” says Victor Rodriguez, Azad Watches’ Co-Owner. “It has lots of excitement, and it’s the fastest-growing sport in the world. “We’re exciting and fast growing too, so the UFC is a perfect fit for Azad.”
Azad Watches have also been worn by top celebrities such as Barry Bonds, Cedric the Entertainer, Lil’ Wayne, Mickey Rourke, and many others. Before long, Azad plans on being able to add MMA fighters and personalities to their list of well-known customers.
“You know, we just want to be known as one of the top-notch watch lines out there. We’re focused on showing the quality of the watches. That’s what we’re more focused on now,” states Rodriguez. “We did that in the entertainment world, and if we just do the same thing in the fight world, we’re confident that we’ll start seeing Azad Watches at UFC events all over the world.”
Along with its UFC sponsorships, Azad has hooked up with “Joe Palooka.” This pact provides both brands with reach into other parts of the business world, and will help expand their respective customer bases.
“It’s a good feeling to know that we made it into a comic book of this quality. We’re growing as fast as the sport of MMA, it seems. We’ve only been around for three years, and it’s awesome to see everything that’s happening.
“The future is bright for both us and Palooka,” Rodriguez concludes. “We feel very confident in our partnerships, and can’t wait to see where they take us as a brand.”

ELITE COMBAT SPORTS KICKS OFF 2012 WITH TITLE FIGHTS AT “THE ARRIVAL”
Posted on | January 24, 2012 | No Comments
Fight event to feature top California amateur fighters
San Francisco, California (USA): California-based fight promotion Elite Combat Sports (ECS) will make its 2012 debut when it presents “The Arrival” on Saturday, January 28th in Gilroy, California. By showcasing some of California’s top amateur fighters at this exciting event, ECS is exhibiting its commitment to furthering the sports of mixed martial arts and kickboxing on the West Coast. Fighters from all over the Bay Area competing on the card include Brandon Hester, Kurt Filler, Steven Lara, Jason Price, Gilroy’s own Jose Perez, and other hungry young lions, and six championships will be decided. With twelve total fights featuring competitors from nearly a dozen local gyms, NorCal fight fans won’t want to miss this exciting night of fights!
“Gilroy is home to top-ranked boxer Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero…it’s a perfect place to hold a fight event,” said ECS Promoter Mike Espinoza. “I’m grateful ECS has the opportunity to claim its stake in the West Coast martial arts scene, and ‘The Arrival’ is the next step in that process.”
“The Arrival” will take place on Saturday, January 28th at Desero Tequila Town in Gilroy, California. Doors open at 5 PM, with the first fight hitting the cage at 6 PM. Tickets are available online at http://www.elitecombatsports.
ECS is the product of a merger between World Combat Sports Challenge (WCSC) and the original Elite Combat Sports promotion. WCSC was established to be a premier martial arts promotion that men, women, and children can embrace, whether they are amateur or professional.
“Business and martial arts hold a lot in common,” explains Espinoza. “It takes discipline, dedication, and commitment to be successful at either one of them.”
Espinoza has dedicated many years of his life to promoting, training, and fighting in martial arts. A former three-time world kickboxing and Muay Thai champion, Mike compiled a perfect 32-0 record in competition. Espinoza has surrounded himself with a solid group at ECS, including Dave Madsen, Rick Gutierrez, Geoff Quares, and Daniel Gutierrez. For the last couple of years, health issues have kept Mike and ECS out of the fight world. But now, the company has come back together and is ready to put ECS at the top of the West Coast fight scene where it belongs. The ECS/WCSC merger strives to provide its athletes and fans with the most diverse and exciting combat sports events today.
“We have run some awesome events over the years, and with the recent merger, I’m extremely excited about the direction of ECS,” states Espinoza. “This fight event in Gilroy is the first of several events we’ll have this year, and I know the fighters will deliver a night of action fans won’t soon forget.”
