Gary Shaw Productions Undefeated Future Stars Making Noise

Posted on | January 24, 2012 | No Comments

Gary Shaw Productions has a fantastic stable of undefeated fighters making their mark in the boxing world.  Five made the cut on ESPN’s Super 25 prospect list, created by Dan Rafael.  Shaw co-promotes some of his fighters with other top promoters like Lou DiBellaJavier Bustillo and Leon Margules.  Below are Dan Rafael’s write up’s on Shaw’s rising stars.  Click here to see the entire list on ESPN.com

Luis Orlando Del Valle (24, junior featherweight, Lou DiBella/Gary Shaw, 14-0, 11 KOs): Puerto Rico’s Del Valle, who lives in New York, lost his first amateur fight at age 14 but wound up going 112-14 and earning a National Golden Gloves title before turning pro in 2008. He has excellent hand speed and is efficient with his punches. He has a high knockout percentage but is more of a sharp puncher than a crushing puncher. He scores his knockouts with an accumulation of well-placed shots. In his most notable fight, which aired on “ShoBox” in June, he hammered credible Dat Nguyen in a lopsided 10-round decision with an excellent performance that stole the show.

Thomas Dulorme (21, welterweight, Lou DiBella/Gary Shaw/Javier Bustillo, 13-0, 10 KOs): Puerto Rico’s Dulorme is an ultra-exciting prospect with Felix Trinidad-like charisma. When Dulorme comes to the ring, he has a smile on his face and seems to thoroughly enjoy the combat. He is a very aggressive puncher with tremendous power. He turned pro in 2008 but initially didn’t fight very often. In 2011, he picked up the pace, winning five fights — including spectacular second-round knockouts of Guillermo Valdes and Harrison Cuello on major undercards. Dulorme followed those fights with quality decision wins against former junior welterweight titlist DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley on “Friday Night Fights” and former welterweight title challenger Charlie Navarro. The sky is the limit for this kid. He has the look of a future star who just needs more experience. Dulorme will open his 2012 schedule by headlining “ShoBox” on Feb. 17.

Thomas Dulorme will challenge Jose Reynoso for the NABF welterweight title.

Luis Franco (29, featherweight, Gary Shaw, 11-0, 7 KOs): The Miami-based Franco spent eight years on the powerhouse Cuban national team and was a 2004 Olympian. But he lost what would have been some prime professional years before defecting in mid-2009 and turning pro. After roughly 400 amateur fights (including wins against Yuriorkis Gamboa), Franco is adapting well to the pro game. He’s a volume puncher with quickness and, because of his amateur experience and advanced age, is on the fast track. He has already defeated solid pros such as Wilton Hilario, Eric Hunter and Leonilo Miranda. There was serious talk of Franco facing 2011 ESPN.com prospect of the year Gary Russell Jr. on HBO on two different cards, but no deal ever came to fruition, as Franco was in position for a title eliminator in one of the alphabet organizations. He figures to get a significant fight in 2012.

Jonathan Gonzalez (22, junior middleweight, Leon Margules/Gary Shaw/Lou DiBella, 14-0, 13 KOs): Gonzalez was a 2007 Pan-American Games silver medalist and 2008 Puerto Rican Olympian who went 132-18 as an amateur. He’s a strong volume puncher who loves to bull forward and look for knockouts. But he can also box and fights in a confident, relaxed manner. He picked up his most notable victory in June, when he broke down onetime contender Richard Gutierrez in impressive fashion to win a lopsided decision on Showtime’s “ShoBox” in New York on the eve of the annual Puerto Rican Day parade.

Jonathon Gonzalez returns to the ring as the co-main event on “ShoBox” Feb. 17, against Billy Lyell.

Jose Pedraza (22, lightweight, Lou DiBella/Gary Shaw/Javier Bustillo, 5-0, 4 KOs): Pedraza, a 2008 Olympian and 2009 silver medalist at the amateur world championships, is perhaps the most heralded Puerto Rican prospect since Miguel Cotto came out of the 2000 Olympics. Nicknamed “The Sniper,” Pedraza turned pro in February and has rolled through his first four (low-level) opponents. He has shown an educated jab and an excellent body attack, two elements that usually take time for a young fighter to develop. He has poise, is accurate with his punches and is very fluid. DiBella said Pedraza’s fighting style reminds him of a young Oscar De La Hoya.

With only a few fights under his belt, Pedraza was able to capture the WBC Youth title and will defend it on February 28th in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

New Jersey (January 24, 2012) – Gary Shaw Productions is proud to announce the signing of undefeated power-punching lightweight sensation, Alejandro “Charro” Luna (8-0, 6 KOs) of Whittier, California.  Shaw and Luna agreed to a multi-year contract, and both sides are extremely happy.  Luna is scheduled  to return to the ring on March 16, 2012 at the Morongo Casino in Cabazon, CA, on ESPN Friday Night Fights.

A joyful Gary Shaw went on to say, “Alejandro Luna is a great kid with heavy hands and the fans love his approach.  Every time he steps in the ring you know something exciting is about to happen.  He’s got great skills and good team around him. I have big plans for him in 2012.”

Luna, a twenty year old prospect known for his crowd pleasing style stated, “I’m very excited that I signed with Gary Shaw because I know he’s one of the best promoters in boxing.  He’s guided many world champions to the top and I plan to be his next big name.  My goal is to say busy this year and continue my success as a prize fighter.”

Alejandro grew up as a “Charro” in a family of Mexican cowboys, who competed in “Charrería’s” around his local area. Deep rooted in his family’s life long tradition, Luna sated, “The definition of a “Charro” is a gentleman’s cowboy.  I learned how to ride a horse at a very young age and started competing in local “Charrería’s”, which are rodeo competitions.  All my family members from my dad to my uncles are involved in the sport of rodeos, “Charreadas” in Spanish.  I juggled both sports growing up, and as an amateur boxer I compiled a record of 90-12.  I love to compete and right now my focus is strictly on becoming a world champion in boxing.”

AGGRESSION MMA ANNOUNCES FULL FIGHT CARD FOR FEBRUARY 11TH AMMA 9 EVENT

Posted on | January 24, 2012 | No Comments

Card to feature eleven action-packed bouts in all

Description: cid:image002.jpg@01CCD9F9.C21FCD90

Edmonton, Alberta (Canada): Aggression MMA, one of the very best fight promotions in Canada, today revealed the full fight card for its upcoming AMMA 9 event, which is slated to hit the Shaw Conference Centre on Saturday, February 11th in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. In the two co-main events, top Canadian welterweight Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford will take on the challenge of the very talented and very dangerous Tyson “The Man of” Steele. In the other feature bout, rising Canadian fight star Tim Chemelli will look to add UFC veteran Victor Valimaki to his list of victims. Also making his return to Aggression MMA will be another top young Canadian 170-pounder in Sheldon Westcott. In addition, AMMA 9 will feature well-known Canadian competitors Rio Wells, “Big Bad” Stephen Beaumont, and Markhaile “Showtime” Wedderburn.

In short, this card is stacked! Here is the full fight card:

Co-Main Events

Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford vs. Tyson “The Man of” Steele

Victor “The Matrix” Valimaki vs. Tim Chemelli

Main Card

Sheldon Westcott vs. Dave Cochran

Stephan Beaumont vs. Nick Heynan

Luke Harris vs. Elliot Duff

Greg Welsh vs. matt Bagshaw

Chase Dagenhardt vs. Jarod McComb

Rio Wells vs. Markhaile Wedderburn

Undercard

Sy Jewett vs. Sarah Moraz

KB Bhullar vs. Simon Shirt

Paulo Azambuja vs. Adrian Cardinal

This event will take place at the Shaw Conference Center on Saturday, February 11th. Tickets are available over the phone at (780) 426-SOLD, or online at www.TNTTickets.ca. Canadian fight fans won’t want to miss this incredible event!

“What a stacked card ‘AMMA 9’ has turned out to be,” stated Aggression MMA Co-Owner Moin Mirza. “With the talent we’ve been able to bring in for this event, I would feel comfortable putting this card up against just about any other event here in Canada.”

Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford (16-4) is one of the top MMA stars in Canada. Ford was upset by David Hulett in his last bout, but before that defeat, he had won four straight fights, as well as eight of his last nine, finishing all his victims on either punches or submissions. In 2011 alone, he conquered Johnny Davis, former UFC welterweight contender Karo Parisyan, and fellow top Canadian Nick Hinchliffe in succession. Now looking to rebound from the Hulett loss, “The Real Deal” is motivated with a burning desire to show the fight world he truly is the next elite Canadian fighter.

Ford faces no easy task in his return bout, as he will step in the cage with rising star Tyson “The Man of” Steele (8-1). Also rumored to be on the radar of the UFC, Steele is one of the most exciting Canadian competitors on the circuit. Having never been to a decision, Steele has submitted seven of his eight victims, and knocked out the other one. A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the 6-foot tall Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist is ready to add “The Real Deal” to his list of victims and make a huge splash in the process.

“This is a huge opportunity for me, and I am grateful to Aggression for making it happen,” says “The Man of” Steele. “I want to make it to the UFC, and this could be the fight that puts me one step closer to the call that every fighter dreams of. I know what I have to do to get there, and that’s take on the best and beat the best. Unfortunately for Ryan Ford, he’s put himself right in my path, and I’ve got to go through him.”

Edmonton, Alberta native and local favorite Victor “The Matrix” Valimaki (16-8), a former holder of the TFC Light Heavyweight Championship, will look to right the ship as he collides with another rising Canadian star in Tim Chemelli (8-1). A former UFC fighter, “The Matrix” is going through a rough streak in his career, but is determined to get back in the win column at the expense of his young foe. Valimaki holds victories over MMA legend Dan “The Beast” Severn, and UFC veterans Vernon “Tiger” White and Jason “Dooms” Day. Chemelli, a member of Team Sparta and a native of Alberta, has finished all eight of his opponents in his victories, but is coming off his first career loss. The defeat came at Aggression: “Unfinished Business” last year against Nick Penner. Now this finishing machine will look to come back strong and grab victory against a UFC vet in Valimaki.

Also competing on the card will be tough Canadians Stephan Beaumont, who is undefeated at 4-0, and strong Muay Thai fighter Markhaile “Showtime” Wedderburn will put their skill sets on display once again for the Aggression fans.

Stay tuned for more details on this exciting upcoming Aggression MMA fight event! For more information, please visit our website at http://www.aggressionmma.com/

Namauu Tops Godfrey in Tacoma!

Posted on | January 24, 2012 | No Comments

Tacoma, WA (January 23, 2012) – Rising cruiserweight Henry Namauu scored the biggest win of his career Saturday evening by decisioning Contender Season 4 participant Joell Godfrey over ten rounds at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma.

Headlining Halquist Productions’ 85th edition of “Battle at the Boat”, Namauu was the busier of the two fighters throughout the evening, racking up points simply due to his level of activity. Godfrey, the taller and leaner fighter, had spurts of success landing punches, but his inability to consistently move his hands gave Namauu the edge.

Scores were 99-91, 97-93 and 96-94.

Namauu, a victor for the seventh time in eight bouts, returns to Las Vegas, NV at 10-4 with 5 knockouts. Godfrey of East St. Louis, IL, slips to 13-6-1 (6 KO’s).

“Henry showed me lot tonight,” said Halquist Productions CEO Brian Halquist. “He’s a real throwback fighter and has faced a bunch of tough guys. I look forward to seeing him fight again and the crowd reacted well to him.”

In the co-feature, welterweight Roberto Crespo upset local prospect and previously unbeaten Nate Serrano. Both men could’ve made their case for a victory, with Serrano pressing the action while the taller Crespo effectively boxed from the outside. Scores were 58-56 twice and 57-57.

Crespo, of Riverside, CA, ups his professional ledger to 3-1. Serrano returns to Yakima, WA at 3-1(2 KO’s).

Renowned ring announcer Amy Hayes made her Halquist Productions debut as the master of ceremonies. Halquist Productions’ next card takes place Saturday, March 31 followed by a show Saturday, June 2.

OTHER RESULTS:

Middleweights: Brandon Adams (5-0, 3 KO’s Los Angeles, CA) TKO2 Dave Courchaine (0-2Spokane, WA)

Super Middleweights: Adrian Hermann (3-2-1, 1 KO Everett, WA) UD4 Len Bentley (1-1Olympia, WA)

Welterweights: Randell Corpuz (2-1-1 Yakima, WA) D4 Rashad Hughes (0-2 California)

Cruiserweights: Josh Hewson (1-0 Spokane, WA) UD4 Jose Rico (0-2 Springfield, OR)

During the last 23 years, Halquist Productions built a reputation in the boxing world for their loyalty, honesty and integrity. In 1997, Halquist Productions ran their inaugural “Battle at the Boat” series, which remains successful to this day. Halquist Productions promoted many world title bouts and their fight cards have been seen on ESPN, HBO and Showtime.
