‘World Dominance’ at Route 66 Casino Hotel in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (October 11, 2011) – They may have taken different routes to get there, but four months after promoter Lenny Fresquez originally announced the December 2nd “World Dominance” showdown at Route 66 Casino Hotel in Albuquerque, it’s full steam ahead for Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm and French superstar Anne Sophie Mathis to decide who is the best female boxer in the world.

“Holly and Anne Sophie are clearly the top two pound-for-pound women boxers in the world,” Fresquez said. “There’s nobody left for Holly to fight in North America and Ann Sophie has eliminated the leading contenders in Europe. This is a natural fight to crown the true Queen of Boxing. Between the two of these great fighters, they have won 15 world titles, and are 21-1-1 in fights against world champions. Holly’s the No. 1 light welterweight; Anne Sophie’s the No. 1 welterweight. It just doesn’t get any better than this for fans of women’s boxing anticipating this confrontation. .”

Nine-time world champion Holm (30-1-3, 9 KOs) will be seeking to regain her IBA Welterweight title and WBAN Championship Belt in the 10-round main event against six-time world titlist Mathis (25-1, 21 KOs), who is the reigning the WIBA, WIBF and WBF World Welterweight Champion.

“World Dominance,” presented by Fresquez Productions, is a modern day match-up of contrasting female prizefighters, showcasing a consummate boxer (southpaw Holm) versus a knockout specialist (Mathis).

A world champion in three different divisions (light welterweight, welterweight and light middleweight), Holly has defeated virtually all of the significant names of the past decade in women’s boxing from the 140 through 154-pound classes, including Christy Martin, Mary Jo Sanders, Mia St. John, Jane Couch, Duda Yankovich and Chevelle Hallback (twice). Holm is riding a 24-fight unbeaten streak, dating back to her only pro loss in 2004, when a serious cut under her eye prevented her from continuing to fight.

The 29-year-old Holm sports an amazing 20-0-1 (6 KOs) record in world title fights, in addition to a 14-0-1 mark versus world champions. Her last fight was in mixed martial arts this past September, when she remained unbeaten (2-0, 2 TKOs) by stopping Jan Finney with a devastating kick to the body.

Like Holm, Mathis is another all-around fighter, owning a kickboxing and savate background. She will be fighting outside of Europe for the first time and is currently riding a 24-fight, 16-year win streak since she suffered her only pro loss in her second fight. On Dec. 2nd, she will mark the fifth anniversary of her first world title victory, in which she stopped previously unbeaten Myriam Lamare (13-0) for the WBA crown and vacant EBU championship. Ann Sophie’s victims also include world champions Couch, Yankovich, Ana Pascal and Nathalie Toro.

Since the original announcement of “World Dominance,” Mathis has fought twice, both times in France. In June, she knocked out previously unbeaten Olivia Boudouma (8-0) in the fifth round, and then won all 10 rounds Oct. 1 against cagey veteran Cindy Serrano (15-3-2).

Fresquez announced the “World Dominance” undercard:

vs.

Josh “Pitbull” Torres (5-1-1, 3 KOs), Albuquerque, NM

Posted on | October 11, 2011 | No Comments

ALSO UNDEFEATED AND WORLD RANKED RYAN COYNE TO SEE ACTION IN SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK (October 11, 2011)—This Saturday night, two of the top cruiserweights in the world will see action in separate bouts with a lot on the line as B.J. Flores takes Paul Jennette while Ryan Coyne will take on veteran James Crawford.

All the action can be seen LIVE all over the world on www.gfl.tv for a price of just $9.99 by clicking:

http://www.gfl.tv/Events/Fight/Multiple/Youngblood_Auto_Presents_CHAMPIONS_COLLIDE/1190

Missouri natives BJ Flores and Ryan Coyne return to action on October 15 at the O’Reilly Family Events Center on the campus of Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. In the evening’s main event, Willard native BJ ‘El Peligroso’ Flores looks to climb the cruiserweight rankings as he takes on Paul Jennette (11-3-1, 8 KO’s).  Flores defeated highly regarded Nicholas Iannuzzi by TKO on July 23rd in the same arena.

Flores, 25-1-1 (16 KO’s) is currently ranked number-four by the WBO and number-fourteen by the WBA

States Flores, “Jennette is a very tough guy who looks to take the fight to the opponent, often being on the offensive. That style is very similar to mine, so on October 15th, something has to give. Its going to be a very exciting fight, but I’m knocking Jennette out. I’m just thrilled to be back in my hometown fighting in front of family and friends. An impressive victory here only builds my case for a shot at the world title. I want be satisfied until I win a world title, and defend it back in my hometown.”

Ryan ‘The Irish Outlaw’ Coyne has yet to taste defeat as he’s built a record of 17-0 (6 KO’s) Still, ‘The Irish Outlaw’ believe his best shot at a world title may come at Light Heavyweight, and this fight will take place at 185 pounds. James Crawford (40-13-2,17 KO’s) has fought Danny Green, Jean Pascal, Jeff Lacy, Adrian Diaconu, and others in a career that has seen him win 40 times. No doubt the Light Heavyweight division beter be on notice as ‘The Irish Outlaw’ will be making a title run.

Coyne was supposed to fight WBA Cruiserweight champion Guillermo Jones this past summer until Jones pulled out just days before the fight with an injury

Coyne is ranked number-five by the WBA

Both Coyne and Flores look to be active in 2012 as they each try and win a world title. Other bouts on this action packed card include:

Highly regarded young phenom (113-5 as an amateur) Orlando Utsey vs TBA

Will Grover (5-1, 5 KO’s) vs Justin Ridgway (2-0, 1 KO)

Jesse Cook (Debut) vs DeAngelo Clardy (1-2, 1 KO)

AJ Van Camp vs Ryan Pederson (2-7, 2 KO’s)

Steven Mincks (5-20-1, 3 KO’s) vs Robbie Cannon (12-6-1, 3 KO’s)

The event is a hybrid card and will also feature the following professional MMA contests:

Mike Glenn vs Tim Papp

Brian Green vs TBA

Andrew Whitney (of recent You Tube notoriety for his flying knee TKO on HD NET) vs Lewis McKenzie

Chris McDaniel vs Chris Barnes

Jesse Zeugin vs Wade McGlohan

Amazing! Lee Roy Smith To Accept Ancient Wrestling Artifact from Columbia in NYC

Posted on | October 11, 2011 | No Comments

STILLWATER, Okla. – The sport of wrestling received further validation that it is the oldest athletic contest in the world. The oldest known written instruction on any sport happens to be about wrestling, and it is in the possession of the Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Columbia University.
The National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum in Stillwater, Oklahoma, will obtain a replica of the artifact during a special presentation on October 18 at Columbia University. The artifact will be on permanent display at the Hall of Fame.

“We are excited to partner with Columbia University to tell the story behind this artifact,” said Lee Roy Smith, executive director of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. “Bringing this historic relic to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum and incorporating into our Origins of Sport exhibit will enhance our ability to showcase the historic value of wrestling.”

The actual document was uncovered during an archeological dig in Egypt during the late 1800s. In 1907, the fragment became part of a batch of papyrus shipped to Columbia University in New York. Columbia was the first college in the United States to offer wrestling.

“We plan on getting the world’s attention on this artifact,” said Smith. “You have the oldest known sporting manual on the oldest sport, brought to you by the oldest wrestling program in the United States.”

Wrestling historian Don Sayenga has worked extensively with Columbia University to obtain information about the historical artifact. The artifact, dated between 100 AD and 200 AD, is considered the oldest instruction book for any sport ever discovered.

The artifact is a guide for instructing two wrestlers through a series of standard moves and countermoves. The fragment, which is about 18 inches wide, is under the care of the Butler Library at Columbia University.

“This document helps wrestling as a sport if more people recognize that wrestling is the oldest sport,” said Sayenga. “Not only is wrestling the oldest sport, but it has indisputable artifacts recognized by other people. Scientists in other disciplines recognize this.”

Dignitaries from wrestling, politics, and academia will be in attendance for this special event held at Columbia University. Dan Gable, legendary coach and wrestler from the state of Iowa, will participate in the presentation. He is also namesake of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum located in Waterloo, Iowa.

“I like it when the sport of wrestling gets pointed out from a historical point of view,” said Gable. “I want to be part of this presentation, just like I want to be part of future historical celebrations that include wrestling.”

That National Collegiate Athletic Association will be represented at the presentation as well. Joni Comstock, senior vice president of the NCAA championships, is enthusiastic about attending the event in October.

“The sport of wrestling is one of the oldest in the history of the NCAA, and it continues to stand the test of time as it is one of the great championships our organization sponsors,” said Comstock. “With the NCAA’s long-standing tradition in the sport of wrestling, it is exciting to see something that truly celebrates the history of the sport.”

This is an invitation only event. Inquiries from the media should contact Krista Graff at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame at (405)377-5243 or kgraff@wrestlinghalloffame.org.

Kessler injures hand in practice, WBO Title clash against Stieglitz postponed to early 2012

Posted on | October 11, 2011 | No Comments

Team Sauerland regrets to announce that Mikkel Kessler (44-2, 33 KOs) has sustained a hand injury in practice, forcing him to postpone his hotly-anticipated November 5 clash with WBO Super-Middleweight Champion Robert Stieglitz (40-2, 23 KOs) to early 2012. The venue will remain Copenhagen´s PARKEN Stadium, and all tickets purchased will remain
valid. The new date for the show, which will be co-promoted by Team Sauerland and SES boxing, will be confirmed as soon as possible. “This is a major disappointment for me,” Kessler said. “We´ve had a great preparation and I was in fantastic shape when I injured my right hand during a routine training session. The doctors advised me that it needs
a rest and I can´t fight on November 5. I am very sorry to keep my fans waiting. The good news is that the injury should heal quickly after a little break. I will rest my hand and then get back to training to be fit for Stieglitz early next year.”

Just like the Viking Warrior, promoter Kalle Sauerland was gutted. “It´s a shame that this big clash of champions has to be postponed,” he stated. “I know how hard Mikkel has worked and how disappointed he is to postpone the original fight date, but we have been through this before. We will now speak to our broadcasting partners – TV2 in Denmark, ARD in
Germany and SHOWTIME in the US – to find a new date in early 2012 as soon as possible. We will then kick off the new year with a massive show at PARKEN, with two of the world´s best super-middleweights battling it out.”

As soon as the new date for the show at PARKEN has been confirmed, Team Sauerland will make an announcement. All tickets purchased will remain valid. Fans unable to attend the fight on the new date can refund their tickets through billetlugen.dk‘s call center (+45 70 263 267) until three weeks after the announcement of the new date.

PSU’s Cody Sanderson Talks Practice, Coaches and More with Takedown Wrestling

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling staff is now complete with the addition of former Nittany Lion stand-outs Aaron Anspach and Adam Lynch. Anspach is returning to his position as an assistant coach (volunteer) while Lynch has been named the Director of Operations.

Anspach, an All-American for Penn State, has returned to his position as volunteer assistant coach for the Penn State Nittany Lions. Anspach, who has served as an assistant coach, director of operations and club coach with the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club during his four years at Penn State, will assume the duties of assistant coach (volunteer). The national runner-up at heavyweight in 2007, Anspach went 22-4 during a senior season that saw him earn his first All-America honor in his first full and injury free season. The native of Columbia, Pa., graduated from Penn State in the spring of 2007 with a degree in Crime, Law and Justice. Despite a career plagued with injuries that forced him to miss nearly all of two seasons, Anspach left Penn State with a 43-15 career record. His 2007 season went down as one of the most successful heavyweight campaigns in Penn State history, short only of Kerry McCoy’s national title runs in 1994 and 1997 and Bill Oberly’s title in 1955. He went 16-2 in duals in `07 and of his four total losses, three were to two-time national champion Cole Konrad of Minnesota.

“Aaron will be a tremendous addition to the staff,” head coach Cael Sanderson said. “He has a relentless work ethic, a team mentality and a strong passion for Penn State Wrestling. Coming from his previous position working with the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club, where he did an outstanding job, Aaron will be a great mentor and coach for our student-athletes.”

Lynch is entering his first season on the staff at Penn State, taking on the role of Director of Operations for the Penn State wrestlers for the upcoming season. He was a member of Penn State’s 2011 Big Ten and NCAA Championship team. Lynch ended his Penn State career as one of the team’s leaders, coming back for a fifth year to continue the work of building a championship. As a junior in Sanderson’s first season (2009-10), Lynch went 13-13 overall but posted a superb 6-2 record in Big Ten duals. He debuted in the national rankings at 141 in February of that year. Last year, the fifth-year senior went 7-3 with three pins. Over the course of his career, Lynch posted a 46-38 overall record, an 8-8 dual meet mark (6-3 in Big Ten action), had nine pins and 34 dual meet points. Lynch received his bachelors of science in Kinesiology in the movement science option in December of 2010 and is currently working towards a graduate degree in sports management and sports administration. He is a native of Mifflinburg, Pa.

“We are very excited to add Adam lynch to our staff,” Sanderson said. “His initiative, strong worth ethic, attention to detail, knowledge of the program, selfless attitude and get-it-done mentality are exactly what we need for this very important position.”

Fans can purchase a very limited number of available season packages by contacting Joel Diamond at 814-867-2557. Adult season tickets are priced at $42 while the youth price (18 and under) is $28. AHMED: I’M THE BIGGEST NAME IN PRIZEFIGHTER

Posted on | October 11, 2011 | No Comments

Internet hit out to get back into title contention tomorrow night

Usman Ahmed says the infamous video of his knockout on YouTube means he’s the biggest name in tomorrow night’s Prizefighter Super Flyweights tournament at Liverpool Olympia, live on Sky Sports 1 and HD1 and also in 3D.

Ahmed hit the headlines when a video of his extravagant ring walk and first round knockout defeat against Ashley Sexton became a huge hit on the internet. Over five million people have watched one version of the footage, and although Ahmed says he was upset at first, he has enjoyed the attention he’s received from the video.

“I’m probably the biggest name in this because of the video and the format is great for me, it suits me because I like to throw a lot of punches, hit and move and that will excite the fans,” said Ahmed.

“At first the YouTube thing was annoying because it was two videos edited together. The dance was from the Chris Edwards fight for the British and Commonwealth titles not from the Ashley Sexton fight, so that was a bit annoying really.

“But then I looked at it in a positive way as it’s made me famous and everyone knows who I am now.

“Hopefully I will do well tonight and show I’ve got a lot to offer, but I don’t think I really need to prove anything as I’ve earned Commonwealth, British and English title shots and they don’t just get given away.”

Ahmed joined the rest of the line-up at the official weigh-in in Liverpool on Tuesday afternoon, and says that joining up with Dominic Ingle at the famous Wincobank Gym in Sheffield has sorted out his previous weight issues.

“I used to give a lot of weight away – Edwards and Sexton were both a stone heavier than me when we fought so it was a big issue,” said Ahmed. “But now, I have been doing extra training, seeing a nutritionist and I’ve put weight on so that’s sorted now. I’ve also just moved up to Sheffield to work with the Ingles.”

British champion Lee Haskins is the bookies’ favourite for the tournament with St. Helens’ English belt holder Craig Lyon just behind him. Liverpool pair Mike Robinson and Ryan Farrag, former Commonwealth champ Don Broadhurst and unbeaten pair Nathan Reeve and Terry Broadbent complete the line-up.

Boxing commences at 7.30pm with the second Prizefighter prospect contest between local debutant Zak Smith and Michael Stupart.

A limited number of unreserved tickets for the Prizefighter Super Flyweights will be available on the door at the Liverpool Olympia from 6.30pm priced £30.
