TEAM PALOOKA’S MIKE MASSENZIO WINS BIG AT UFC 136; ALSO TO APPEAR AT NEW YORK COMIC-CON AT PALOOKA BOOTH

Posted on | October 11, 2011 | No Comments

Description: Description: Description: http://mountainwarriormma.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Palooka-dot-com-logo-290x169.png

Ridgewood, New Jersey (USA): At UFC 136, middleweight Mike Massenzio made his Team Palooka debut with a gutsy, come-from-behind victory against former WEC Light Heavyweight Champion Steve Cantwell. The win represented what Team Palooka is all about: heart, determination, and a “never say die” attitude. The Massenzio-Cantwell bout kicked off the night, and definitely got the crowd going. Both fighters headed into the bout desperately needing a big win in order to keep their position with the UFC, and the New Jersey-based Massenzio came away with the “W.”

“Winning this fight, it’s a great feeling…one of the greatest feelings of my life,” says Massenzio. “I’ve been through a lot over the last few years, and I’ve been through a lot in my career already. After a fast start, I got hit with some major injuries. I came back against Brian Stann, which was a very tough first fight, and we got ‘Fight of the Night.’ The Soszynski fight was tough, too. Against Cantwell, I took a little bit from him in the first round, then he caught me good, and I had to deal with that. But I was able to hang with it, and I came back. It was a great experience.”

While waiting for his next bout, the 185-pounder will continue to train with his team at AMA Fight Club in New Jersey. As far as who is next on his list, Massenzio is leaving that in the capable hands of the organization.

“I’ll fight whoever the UFC gets me. I feel good about being able to be in there with some of the best and hang. To be the best, you’ve got to beat the best. So whatever they decide to do, I’ll go with it. I’m all about heart, and I’m always going to go out there and fight with everything I’ve got, every fight.”

While we don’t know who Massenzio will face next in the Octagon, we do know what is next for him outside the cage. This Thursday, 10/13 and Sunday, 10/16, Mike will be appearing at the Team Palooka booth (#349) at the New York Comic Con. He’ll be there in order to sign autographs, interact with the fans, and promote the new “Joe Palooka” comics being released!

“It’s an honor that Team Palooka wants to have me as part of what they’re doing. It’s great that they have interest in my career. I’m hoping that as they rise, I rise at the same time. And I’m really looking forward to being with the fans at Comic-Con. Come on out and come say hi…it’s going to be awesome!”

The news MMA comic book fans have been waiting for was recently announced: the comic series made its world premiere with its first issue last week when “Joe Palooka” issues #1 & #2 became available for purchase for the first time anywhere. Fans can get their hands on the comic athttp://www.Palooka.com/, and hard copies of the issue will follow in early 2012.

A special 13-page FREE-VIEW is also available simply for signing up with an email address on http://www.Palooka.com/, and fans can also take advantage of a unique offer on “Joe Palooka” issues #1 and #2, which are available together for the low price of only $1.99.

The “Joe Palooka” comic series tells the story of Joe Palooka, an MMA fighter who competes in “Legion of Combat,” which is a sister comic publication. “Legion of Combat” will feature Joe Palooka and top MMA stars including “Suga” Rashad Evans, Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, the Blackzilians, Brendan Schaub, and the Miller brothers in team matches between fighters representing countries such as the U.S., the U.K., Brazil, Russia, Japan, China, and other nations.

Diamond Dallas Page Warns Ricky Morton about Kevin Nash

‘AWE Wrestling: Night Of The Legends’ PPV

Saturday night in Virginia

FISHERSVILLE, Virginia (October 10, 2011) – Amidst great speculation regarding his role in Saturday night’s “AWE Wrestling: Night Of The Legends” Pay-Per-View extravaganza, live from Augusta Expo in Fishersville, Virginia, three-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion Diamond Dallas Page (“DDP”) has issued a major warning to Ricky Morton.

Former WWE and WCW World Heavyweight Champion Kevin Nash, along with his mystery tag-team partner, takes on the former three-time NWA Tag Team Champions, The Rock-n-Roll Express, Morton and Robert Gibson, in the featured match of the evening. Nash and Morton have been feuding for the past decade, and their many differences promise to be settled once and for all this Saturday night in front of a live national television/Internet audience and a packed live house in Virginia.

DDP, who is in great shape due to workout videos he has been making, said he is looking forward to this weekend’s ring return. “I’ve been doing some Herculean workouts in my videos, so I’m in the best shape I’ve been in years,” the popular wrestler explained. “It’s great to be part of this pay-per-view show that gives young people a chance to watch so many legends and gives old-time fans an opportunity to see their favorite wrestlers in action again. You never know if all of these legends will ever wrestle on the same show again. We don’t know what’s going to happen, but it’s going to be a great night. It could be a really sweet night, too.”

DDP noted that he has been together with Nash longer than anybody, including Scott Hall, and he warns Morton about what could happen to him in the ring against an angry Nash. “We go back together before the WWF and The Outlaws,” DDP said about his friendship with Kevin. “Ricky Morton has said a lot of nasty stuff about Kevin in interviews. I know Kevin really well and you just don’t do that to him without paying some serious consequences. Kevin is going to keep it real in the ring. Of all the people for Morton to do that to, and then get in the ring with, well, let’s just say Nash isn’t that guy. Stuff happens in wrestling and sometimes real bad stuff happens. We’ll see what’s going to happen Saturday night but, trust me – it’s not going to be good for Morton.”

The Awesome Wrestling Entertainment (AWE) superstar event will be available for live viewing at 9 PM/ET – 6 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, AT & T and Verizon in the United States, as well as Bell TV in Canada, for a suggested retail price of only $24.95. The broadcast will also be available live on an Internet pay-per-view basis at www.AWEonPPV.comand www.GFL.TV.

Legendary warrior Terry Funk faces his protégé, former ECW superstar Tommy Dreamer, to determine who the true King of Hardcore wrestling is in 2011. A two-time ECW and NWA heavyweight champion, Funk is a Hall of Famer in several organizations who has mentored Dreamer for many years. Despite looking up to Funk as an extreme combat fighting icon, 14-time WWF/WWE Hardcore Champion and two-time ECW world title-holderDreamer, is on a mission to retire the ageless Funk.

American flag-waving, 2 X 4 wielding “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan continues his patriotic charge when he confronts the hated Arab-American oil magnate, Mohammad Akbar.

Other wrestlers among the 30 all-stars being showcased at the AWE Legends event include Fit Finlay, Amy “Lita” Dumas, and Perry Saturn, who will be making the most significant comeback in wrestling history, nine-years out of the ring, against dangerous enforcer CW Anderson.

In a match that could very well steal the show, WWE and WCW title-holder Fit Finlay throws-down with 21-year-old rising-star and the AWE Heavyweight prospect, “Loose Cannon” Alex Silva, who’ll have “Nature Boy” Buddy Landel working his corner.

Also on this action-packed Awesome Wrestling Entertainment (AWE) card are former World Tag Team Champion and “Four Horsemen” member, Tully Blanchard with BabydollMidnight Express,Ivan KoloffTommy “Wildfire” Rich, and Sonjay Dutt squares-off against Jamin Olivencia on the action-packed

All wrestlers and matches are subject to change.

DEWEY BOZELLA TO MAKE PROFESSIONAL DEBUT ON UNDERCARD OF OCTOBER 15 HOPKINS VS. DAWSON FIGHT AFTER SERVING 26 YEARS ON WRONGFUL MURDER CHARGE

Posted on | October 10, 2011 | No Comments

Hopkins-Dawson Letterhead Live on PPV

Los Angeles (October 10)…Dewey Bozella‘s dream has always been to have just one professional boxing match.  Following perhaps the most unconventional path to a first professional fight in the history of the sport, on Oct. 15, that dream will come true.  After spending 26 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted of murder and having that conviction overturned two years ago, Bozella is scheduled to fight in a four-round cruiserweight bout against Larry Hopkins of Houston, Tex. on the undercard of the championship fight between WBC and Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight Champion Bernard Hopkins and former World Champion Chad Dawson.  So that all of those who have become captivated by his story can catch the outcome of his professional debut, highlights of Bozella’s fight against Larry Hopkins will be shown during the HBO Pay-Per-View® telecast.

“This is the opportunity that I have been waiting for,” said Bozella.  “Boxing was the one thing that helped me get through my time in prison and the fact that I am getting this chance to make my dream come true, is something that I cannot wait for.”

Bozella is 52 years old, six years older than even Hopkins, boxing’s ageless champion who at 46 became the oldest boxer ever to win a world title last May.  Bozella has been training in Philadelphia with Hopkins in preparation for his pro debut, and Hopkins has been impressed and inspired by Bozella.

“Dewey Bozella is a prime example of the power of the mind and heart to do anything,” said Hopkins.  “This is a man who lost everything for a crime he didn’t commit, but he never gave up hope.  He has inspired everyone who has heard his story, including me.  I’d rather face 100 Chad Dawsons than face two or three days in Dewey’s shoes.”

It is important to note some of the parallels between Bozella and Hopkins.  Both spent time in prison, though Bozella was innocent, beginning at a young age.  Both decided to change their lives for the better while incarcerated.  Boxing helped both men find their passion and changed their lives.  Although a jury twice found Bozella guilty, the second time following a retrial, he took his frustrations and bitterness to the prison boxing ring and channeled his energy into training.

Bozella took his passion for boxing and made it his focus while in prison.  He ended up winning the Sing Sing Light Heavyweight title.  He later earned a bout against New York City Golden Gloves champion Lou Del Valle, who would go on to be the first fighter ever to knock down Roy Jones Jr. in a professional fight.  Bozella nearly won the fight, but it was stopped after Del Valle landed a punch that cut Bozella badly above the eye with Del Valle being declared the winner.

Meanwhile, Bozella continued to make his life what he wanted it to be despite being in jail.  He earned his GED, bachelor’s and master’s degrees-all from prison-and he even proposed to and married Trena Boone, whom Bozella met while she was visiting her brother in Sing Sing.

“No matter how much boxing meant to me and motivated me, my biggest fight was for my freedom,” said Bozella.  “I never gave up.  I knew I was getting out of prison.  Either I was going to die in there and go out in a box or I was going to walk out of there a free man.”

Finally, after repeatedly refusing to admit to and apologize for committing the murder for which he was convicted in exchange for parole, Bozella’s conviction was overturned when the Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr law firm took his case pro bono and discovered new evidence establishing his innocence and setting him free.

Bozella is now determined to use his experience to help others.  He has organized the Dewey Bozella Foundation (www.thedeweybozellafoundation.org) , a charity organized to open a boxing gym in Newburgh, New York where he can train youth as a way to keep them off the streets.

“A lot of people helped me get to this point,” said Bozella.  “I want to be able to pay some of that forward, open my own gym and help others.  My main focus is kids, but my gym will be for anyone who wants to come.”

For now, Bozella has his eye on Larry Hopkins and his dream of a pro debut.  His new mentor and friend Bernard Hopkins thinks that his hard work will pay off.

“Everyone deserves a second chance to fulfill their dream,” Hopkins said.  “Dewey was robbed of half of his life.  I am happy that I’m able to provide the platform for him to achieve his dream on October 15.  Now I want him to go into that ring and show the world that he not only deserved this chance, but he earned it.”

CHICAGO, Ill.
