Posted on | October 6, 2011 | No Comments

RODRIGUEZ-ROSINSKY HEADLINE LIVE ON SHOWTIME® FROM MGM GRAND AT FOXWOODS

Mashantucket, CT/New York, NY – (Oct. 6, 2011) – Some of New England’s brightest and best boxing prospects will be showcasedFriday, Oct. 21, in the main event on ShoBox: The New Generation LIVE on SHOWTIME® at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast), when DiBella Entertainment returns to the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods.

The same market that has produced “Irish” Micky Ward, “Bad” Chad Dawson, Vinny “The Pazmanian Devil” Pazienza, John “The Quietman” Ruiz and so many more world-class boxers during the past 20 years, will also feature a multi-talented quartet comprised of highly-touted super middleweight Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez, fan-friendly Ryan “Polish Prince” Kielczewski, exciting Danny O’Connor, and gifted Luis “KO King” Rosa, on the “Octoberfist: Fight Night Done Right” card. The N.E. Fab Four has an impressive combined record of 53-1.

“Edwin, Ryan K., Danny and Luis represent the new generation of New England boxers,” promoter Lou DiBella said. “They all bring into the ring what real fans want – boxing skills, guts, and entertaining styles. Each of these young fighters has a growing fan-base and we’re hoping they’ll all band together October 21st to cause another New England revolution.”

Tickets are priced at $125, $85 and $50, and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.foxwoods.com orwww.ticketmaster.com, and by calling (800) 200-2882. Doors open at 7PM, with the first bout scheduled for 8PM. Showtime will begin live coverage at 11PM ET.

Rodriguez (19-0, 14 KOs), fighting out of nearby Worcester, Mass., has already graduated from prospect to legitimate world title contender. The 26-year-old is now rated in all four major sanctioning bodies (IBF #5, WBC #6, WBA #8 and WBO # 12) and has gained invaluable experience in the past year as a sparring partner for Carl Froch, Daniel Geale, Jean Pascal and Chad Dawson.

“La Bomba” headlines “Octoberfist” against another undefeated fighter and friend, New York City banger Will “Power” Rosinky (14-0, 8KOs). Also being broadcast live on Showtime is the 10-round co-feature, matching rising junior welterweight contender Gabriel “Tito” Bracero (17-0, 3KOs) and always tough Daniel Sostre (11-4-1, 4KOs) for the vacant NABF title. Both bouts are scheduled for 10 rounds.

Rodriguez and Rosinsky a history dating back to the amateur ranks, where they were, respectively, the 2005 USA Nationals middleweight and light heavyweight champions. Edwin was also the 2006 National Golden Gloves Champion, while Rosinsky captured the New York Golden Gloves Championship four times. They were also members of the 2006 USA Boxing team that traveled to China.

Recognized as one of the most feared body punchers in boxing, four of Rodriguez last five fights ending in knockouts were the results of single punches to the liver and rib areas. Rosinsky has fought a number of times on DBE’s popular Broadway Boxing series but, unlike Rodriguez who will be fighting on Showtime for the third time, second in the main event, the Oct. 21, bout will mark the first appearance for Rosinsky in the national spotlight.

Another undefeated fighter from Massachusetts, unheralded Quincy junior lightweight Ryan “Polish Prince” Kielczewski (11-0, 2 KOs), who stamped himself as an action-packed fighter to watch, belting James Lester around the ring from the opening bell for eight full rounds en route to a lop-sided win by decision in his last fight.

O’Connor (15-1, 4 KOs), a left-handed light welterweight from Framingham, Mass., was a 2008 U.S. Olympic Team alternate. He and Rodriguez have traveled similar routes, first boxing at the Worcester Boys & Girls Club, and now as training camp roommates in Houstonwith former world title challenger and “Trainer of the Year”, Ronnie Shields, now serving as chief second for both of them. O’Connor, who designs and makes his exotic Irish-flavored boxing trunks, bounced back from his only loss, ironically, to Bracero, with an impressive first-round knockout victory last month.

Unbeaten New Haven super bantamweight Rosa (8-0, 5 KOs) was another decorated NE amateur boxer. He is mature beyond his years, largely due to his amateur experience, as well as having his father, Luis, as his coach. Rosa is the complete package in the ring, offensively and defensively, but he also has heavy hands.

The complete undercard will be announced shortly.

ROUFUSPORT AMONGST FIGHT TEAMS NOMINATED FOR WMMA’S GYM OF THE YEAR

Posted on | October 6, 2011 | No Comments

Description: cid:image002.jpg@01CC8425.2BD97630

(Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA): It was announced recently that Roufusport has been nominated for “Gym of the Year” by the prestigious World MMA Awards, presented by Fighters Only Magazine. The black-tie, red-carpet ceremony takes place November 30th at The Pearl at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. It is the fourth edition of the annual awards, and five finalists have been selected in 22 different award categories.

Other gyms nominated for the award include Alliance MMA, Xtreme Couture, Black House, and Jackson’s MMA. All winners are determined by a fan vote, and ballots can be cast now through November 23rd at http://www.worldmmaawards.com/.

“What an honor it is to be nominated for such a great award,” states Duke Roufusport Head Trainer. “Our guys have worked very hard, and we’ve had some great moments this year. Best of luck to everyone nominated.”

2011 was something of a banner year for Roufusport. The gym launched its “Fighter House,” which gives up-and-coming fighters from across the country the chance to train with the Roufusport fighters and coaches. In addition, Bellator Welterweight Champion Ben Askren joined the fold, bringing his NCAA championship wrestling credentials with him.

Several Roufusport competitors also brought home big-time victories, though perhaps none was bigger than Alan “The Talent” Belcher’s return at Ultimate Fight Night 25. After suffering an eye injury that nearly ended his career, Belcher came back from a year and a half-long layoff to stop Jason MacDonald with punches in the first round. And, Erik “New Breed” Koch went 2-0 during the 2011 campaign, stopping Raphael Assuncao and dominating Jonathan Brookins in a decision win.

2011 also saw Roufusport up-and-comers like Sergio “The Phenom” Pettis make their mark, as Pettis made his pro MMA debut with a highlight-reel head-kick knockout in September. Roufusport also added a new Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Head Coach in 2008 BJJ World Champion Joao Zeferino. In short, it was incredible year for Roufusport and its fighters.

“This year, we saw some changes in the camp, with some fighters leaving and some new ones coming in. But the camaraderie was there, and we persevered. I can’t want to see what 2012 holds for us,” concludes Roufus.

Heavyweight Battles continue when Santos faces Burns

To Kick off Saturday’s MTV2 & EPIX Event at Bellator 53

Santos vs. Burns Heavyweight Tournament Reserve Bout Kicks off Bellator MTV2/EPIX Event

CHICAGO, Ill. (October 6, 2011) — When Thiago Santos and Josh Burns step into the cage this Saturday at Bellator 53, one of the two will secure their spot as the heavyweight tournament alternate. While Mike Hayes secured his spot in the heavyweight semifinals with an impressive victory of Neil Grove, it may have come at a cost as Hayes received a 60-day medical suspension from the Louisiana State Commission and may be unable to compete when the tournament resumes at Bellator 56. With Hayes’ ability to continue in question, the fight between Santos and Burns, which airs LIVE and FREE on MTV2 and in commercial-free HD on EPIX at 9 p.m. ET from Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma this Saturday could determine the fight to face Blagoi Ivanov later this month in the Semifinals of Bellator’s $100,000 Heavyweight Tournament. The undercard for this event can be seen streaming LIVE and FREE around the world on Spike.com beginning at 7 p.m. ET. Tickets for Bellator 53 are on sale now and can be purchased at Stubwire.com and at the Buffalo Run Box Office.

Santos, who was originally slated for the Season 5 Heavyweight Tournament this past weekend, encountered visa problems in his native Brazil and was unable to compete in the tournament quarterfinals. The visa issues are now behind the former Brazilian State Jiu-Jitsu Champion and “The Big Monster” is ready for a battle at Bellator 53.

“I just want to fight,” Santos said. “The issues with the visa are over. I’m here now, and just ready to try to get back into this tournament and get a shot at the title.”

For Burns, the Detroit native and knockout artist is looking to get back to his winning ways after suffering a tough defeat at the hands of Bellator Heavyweight Semifinalist Eric Prindle at Bellator 40. Burns understands chances like these don’t come around very often, and is ready to make the most out of this unique opportunity.

“I think I’ve got a lot to prove coming into this fight, and know this is a huge chance for me to show off what I’m really capable of,” said Burns. “I’m the first to admit my fight with Prindle was sloppy, but that wasn’t me. I’m ready for this fight, and I’m going to show everyone why I should have been in this tournament in the first place. Thiago has never fought anyone like me, and he really doesn’t know what he’s in for.”

The Bellator Heavyweight Tournament Semifinals will take place at Bellator 56 from Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas, and will feature Eric Prindle taking on Ron Sparks, with Blagoi Ivanov facing Hayes if he can overcome the current 60-day suspension and continue on the 29th, or the winner of Santos-Burns.

AMIR “KING” KHAN TRAVELS TO WASHINGTON DC TO FACE LOCAL FAVORITE LAMONT “HAVOC” PETERSON ON DECEMBER 10

Khan Peterson

UNIFIED SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT WORLD TITLE BOUT TO BE

TELEVISED ON HBO’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING

IN THE UNITED STATES

WASHINGTON DC, October 6 – With two wins over Paul McCloskey and Zab Judah already in the books this year, Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Amir “King” Khanwill look to end 2011 with a bang on Saturday, December 10, when he travels to Washington, DC for “Capital Showdown, a 12-round unified championship fight against mandatory IBF challenger and hometown hero Lamont “Havoc” Peterson at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, which will be televised on HBO’s World Championship Boxing in the United States.  In a featured undercard attraction, undefeated heavyweight contender Seth “Mayhem” Mitchell of Brandywine, Maryland will return to the DC-area for the first time since April of 2010 to face an opponent to be determined.

“I’m looking forward to returning to the United States to face a worthy challenger like Lamont Peterson,” said Khan.  “I always said that I wanted to be active and a true World Champion and I will prove it again on December 10.  I know Lamont is a strong contender but it doesn’t matter that I’m fighting him in his backyard, I’m coming in as the champion and will leave as the champion.”

“I’m very happy for my chance to fight for a world title again,” said Peterson.  “I’m sure Khan will train hard to defend his titles, so I will train harder to take his titles.  Winning a world title in my home town is a dream come true.”

“We are excited to bring this big night of boxing to our nation’s capital and to feature a young, powerful and hungry world champion like Amir Khan against a top-flight contender such as Lamont Peterson who will have his hometown fans cheering him on towards reaching his championship dreams,” said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “This is going to be a great fight and a fantastic way to end the 2011 championship boxing season.”

“Amir has always been adamant that he wants to face the very best in his division and in Lamont Peterson, he is doing just that by taking on an extremely dangerous opponent in his own backyard,” said Asif Vali of Khan Promotions.  “I have no doubt Amir will be more than ready for this challenge and will put on yet another glittering display for all of his fans.”

“Amir Khan is one of the most spectacular fighters in the world and we’re thrilled to see him return on World Championship Boxing,” said Kery Davis, HBO Sports Senior Vice President of Programming.  “This showdown with Lamont Peterson in the nation’s capital will be an exciting night on the network.  It’s a thrill for HBO to be back in Washington for the first time since 1993.”

“Capital Showdown: Khan vs. Peterson,” a 12-round Unified Super Lightweight World Title Fight for Khan’s WBA World Super Championship and IBF World Championship, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Khan Promotions and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate, AT&T and DeWalt Tools.  The HBO World Championship Boxing telecast begins at 9:45 p.m. ET/ 6:45 p.m. PT.

One of boxing’s best, Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Amir “King” Khan (26-1, 18 KO’s) has gone from amateur sensation to approaching the top of boxing’s pound for pound list in the span of just seven years.  A Silver Medalist for England at the 2004 Athens Olympics, the pride of Bolton’s began his professional journey in 2005 as one of the most visible athletes in the United Kingdom.  He handled the attention and pressure with grace, winning all but one of his first 20 bouts.  In March of 2009, he made his first inroads on the international scene with a five round win over Mexico’s future Hall of Famer Marco Antonio Barrera and in his next fight just four months later, he became a world champion with a decision victory over Andriy Kotelnik that earned him the WBA Super Lightweight World Title.  After stoppages of Dmitriy Salita and former World Champion Paulie Malignaggi, Khan engaged in the 2010 Fight of the Year, when he decisioned Marcos Maidana on December 11.  The 24-year-old champion has been just as impressive so far in 2011, defending his title in April with a win over previously unbeaten Paul McCloskey in front of a packed house at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, and then added the IBF crown to his trophy case with a fifth round knockout over former World Champion Zab Judah.  Khan knows the only way to stay at the top is to keep facing the top talent out there, and that is exactly what he will get in number one rated contender Peterson on December 10.

Lamont “Havoc” Peterson (29-1-1, 15 KO’s) is a supremely skilled boxer with the fighting heart that allowed him to not only win 29 of 31 professional bouts, but also survive a harrowing childhood that left him and his brother Anthony homeless on the streets of Washington, DC.  By the age of 10, the Petersons found refuge in a local boxing gym and Lamont quickly showed the talent that has led him to this championship bout.  A 2001 National Golden Gloves champion and a National Amateur Champion in 2003, Peterson turned professional in 2004 and impressively won his first 27 bouts.  In April of 2009, he won the WBO Interim Junior Welterweight World Title with a technical knockout over Willy Blain, but eight months later he would lose his only fight when he was decisioned by undefeated Timothy Bradley.  In December of 2010, Peterson battled future Welterweight World Champion Victor Ortiz to a 10 round draw, and on July 29 of this year, the 27-year-old earned a shot at Khan with a 12th round knockout over Victor Manuel Cayo in an IBF elimination bout.  He is ready for the challenge Khan will bring, but is confident his hometown crowd will give him the extra push to take Khan’s crown.

Seth “Mayhem” Mitchell (23-0-1, 17 KO’s) is the jolt of energy and excitement that the division has been looking for.  Since his last bout in the area in April of 2010 (a third round technical knockout over Ryan Thompson), the 29-year-old former Michigan State college football standout has gone from rising star to top contender, winning seven bouts in a row, all by knockout.  In 2011 alone, Charles Davis (second round technical knockout), Evans Quinn (first round knockout) and Hector Ferreyro (third round technical knockout) have all tasted defeat at Mitchell’s hands and he expects to make another statement on December 10 in front of his hometown fans in Washington DC.

Red, White & Blue ‘Hacksaw’ Jim Duggan Ready to defend Patriotism vs. Akbar

‘AWE Wrestling: Night Of The Legends’ PPV

Saturday night, Oct. 15 in Virginia

FISHERSVILLE, Virginia (October 6, 2011) – Now, more than ever, Americans desperately need flag-waving, 2 X 4 wielding “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan to lead their patriotic charge against foreign enemies of this country.

Duggan will go to war once again on October 15, confronting the hated Arab-American oil magnate Mohammad Akbar, on the “AWE Wrestling: Night Of The Legends” Pay-Per-View extravaganza, live from Augusta Expo in Fishersville, Virginia.

Former WWE and WCW World Heavyweight ChampionKevin Nash, along with his mystery tag-team partner, takes on the former three-time NWA Tag Team Champions, The Rock-n-Roll Express, Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, in the featured match of the evening. Nash and Morton make the Hatfield and the McCoy’s feud look tame by comparison. The decade-old skirmish promises to be settled once and for all in their Oct. 15 grudge match, in front of a live national television/Internet audience and a packed live house in Virginia.

After 32 years in professional wrestling,“Hacksaw” Jim hasn’t slowed down a step. His quest is to protect freedom in the wrestling ring. “For the past 25 years,”Duggan said, “I’ve proudly carried the American flag into the ring. I’ve done that in 20 different countries around the world. It’s an honor and a privilege to represent our great country, especially now with so many men and women protecting us around the world. I have never tired of people chanting USA as I go into the ring.

“I fight a lot of guys like Akbar who want to make a name for themselves by fighting me. They may be younger, faster and stronger, but, you can’t measure the heart. When I come into the ring with everybody chanting, ‘USA,’ I can’t be beat, especially by somebody like this who is anti-American.”.

The Awesome Wrestling Entertainment (AWE) extravaganza will be available for live viewing at 9 PM/ET – 6 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, AT & T and Verizon in the United States, as well as Bell TV in Canada, for a suggested retail price of only $24.95. The broadcast will also be available live on an Internet pay-per-view basis at www.AWEonPPV.com and www.GFL.TV.

Legendary warrior Terry Funk faces his protégé, former ECW superstar Tommy Dreamer, to determine who the true King of Hardcore wrestling is in 2011. A two-time ECW and NWA heavyweight champion, Funk is a Hall of Famer in several organizations who has mentored Dreamer for many years. The tough Texan isn’t quite ready to pass the “hardcore” baton just yet. Despite looking up to Funk as an extreme combat fighting icon, Dreamer, is a 14-time WWF/WWE Hardcore Champion and two-time ECW world title-holder, on a mission to send Funk into permanent retirement.

Other wrestling icons among the 30 all-stars being showcased at the AWE Legends event include Diamond Dallas Page (“DDP”), Fit FinlayAmy “Lita” DumasPerry Saturn, and many more.

Perry Saturn returns to action after nine-years on the sidelines, marking the most significant comeback in wrestling history, versus nasty enforcer CW Anderson.

Also scheduled to be in action are former WWE and WCW title-holder Fit Finlay, who accepted the challenge to fight 21-year-old rising-star and the ultra-promising AWE World Heavyweight prospect, “Loose Cannon”Alex Silva. “Nature Boy” Buddy Landel will lend his experience in Silva’s corner.

Former three-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion Diamond Dallas Page (“DDP”), Amy “Lita”Dumas, former World Tag Team Champion and “Four Horsemen” member, Tully Blanchard with BabydollMidnight ExpressIvan KoloffTommy “Wildfire” Rich and Sonjay Dutt squares-off against Jamin Olivencia on the action-packed Awesome Wrestling Entertainment (AWE) card.

KELL BROOK SIGNS ENDORSEMENT DEAL WITH NORTH FIRE

Sheffield fighter adds West Yorkshire Fire Service supplier to sponsorship portfolio

Kell Brook has signed a sponsorship deal with West Yorkshire fire and rescue supply company North Fire ahead of his sold-out World title eliminator on Saturday against Rafal Jackiewicz at the Ponds Forge International Arena live on Sky Sports 1 and HD1.

The unbeaten Welterweight star signed with adidas recently to be the UK spokesman for the sportswear giant and now adds North Fire to the list of companies wishing to associate themselves with the talented 25 year-old.

North Fire were established in 2008 as the official exclusive sales and service agent for Rosenbauer International, supplying the UK and Ireland’s Fire and Rescue Services with Aerial Fire Trucks and Fire Fighting Equipment. In 2011 they were voted Business of the Year by the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce.

“I’m delighted that North Fire are backing me as I’m a Yorkshire lad and I want to work with Yorkshire businesses,” said Brook. “I’ll be wearing the logo for the first time on Saturday night and I plan on putting on a red-hot performance!”

“North Fire are being touted as ‘the next big thing’ in the fire and rescue market which complements the Yorkshire based Kell Brook, who is ‘the next big thing’ in boxing,” said North Fire’s managing director Oliver North, himself an Army Welterweight boxing champion. “As Kell represents a true hard work ethic, professionalism and pure class, the sponsorship reflects seamlessly from the company to the fighter.”
