ARREOLA MAKES MEXICO DEBUT SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5 AT EL DOMO, LEON, MEXICO

LOS ANGELES (Oct. 4) – Mexican-American heavyweight knockout artist Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (33-2, 28 KO’s) will be heading south to Leon, Guanajuato to make his highly anticipated Mexican debut at the grand arena “El Domo” on November 5, 2011headlining an event promoted by Goossen Tutor Promotions and Promociones Del Puebloand broadcast on Televisa.

In his last fight this past July in Atlantic City, Arreola scored a unanimous decision over Friday Ahunanya, in one of only four fights to go the distance in his 35-fight career. Currently riding a five-fight winning streak, Arreola has noticed a big payoff from his newfound dedication to training, having competed recently more than thirty pounds lighter than his showings in 2009 and 2010.

For Arreola, his Mexican debut is very special, as the thirty-year-old Riverside resident’s mother was born in Sinaloa, Mexico, and his father in Durango, Mexico.

Its hard to explain my feelings about fighting in Mexico,” said Arreola. “Its like I’m thrilled because of their love for real fighters, but at the same time, it is important for me to put on a great show and live up to those expectations.  It truly is a great honor to fight in Mexico and to box in a true Mexican environment.  It’s such a beautiful country, there’s nothing like it as a fighter.”

“I just need to go out there and win convincingly, and keep winning convincingly. It’s a great feeling for Televisa’s interest of having me fight in Mexico, in front of the many fans that I want to see that I’m a true Mexican warrior.”

“As for my opponent, Alonzo Butler (28-2-21 KOs), I know he’s got 21 knockouts in his 28 wins, and I have 28 KOs in my 33 victories, so you can bet it will be a wild swinging fight.”

Goossen Tutor and Promociones Del Pueblo last teamed up September 15 in El Paso, Texas on a card that featured 2008 Olympian Javier Molina and WBC Featherweight World Champion Jhonny Gonzalez. “We have enjoyed a great relationship with the Goossen Tutor team for many years, and it is always a pleasure to do boxing shows together,” says Oswaldo Kuchle.  “November 5 at “El Domo” in Leon, Guanajuato we are bringing one of the hottest Mexican boxers today to Mexico for the first time.”

Kuchle went on to say “It’s a very exciting time for our company to have secured Cristobal Arreola to fight in Mexico.  Arreola is a true Mexican boxer and has the hope and support from the Mexican community of being the first Mexican to capture a Heavyweight World Championship.  Televisa, our broadcast partner, is also very excited to be showcasing his debut in Mexico.”

Not to get lost in the hype of Arreola going to Mexico, Butler said this is the opportunity he needed to jump up into the higher echelon of heavyweights, “I understand one thing, I hit him on the chin clean, he will go down and out, and it changes everything in my life.”

With a total of 49 knockouts between them, and close to 500 pounds in the ring, these are two big punching heavyweights and chances are it ends dramatically.

“I participated in the biggest boxing event ever held in Mexico when our fighter Greg Haugen challenged Julio Cesar Chavez,” said promoter Dan Goossen, and it was one of the greatest experiences in my life with the fans and the media in Mexico.”  There is nothing like it anywhere else in the world and having Chris being showcased on Televisa and in front of a packed house, will be the next step in the growth and recognition of the exciting fighting style of Arreola.  The fans will love him.”

Also appearing in his first fight south of the border, will be hard-hitting world-rated lightweight John Molina, Jr. (23-1, 19 KO’s) in a 10-round fight.  Molina,  a Mexican-American fighting out of Covina, CA, had agreed to fight Top Rank’s Brandon Rios in December until Rios’ camp declined the bout.  Instead, Molina travels to Mexico in pursuit of his world championship goal.

Molina has put together a 5-fight winning streak knocking out all five along the way. “Obviously I was very disappointed Rios refused to fight me in Los Angeles; that was his choice,” said Molina. “I’m on the path to fight and beat whoever is put in front of me, no matter who it is.”

Other undercard bouts will be announced shortly.

The fights from El Domo, which is a short 45-minute flight from Mexico City, will begin at 7:30 p.m.  CT and the Televisa broadcast will start at 10:30 p.m. CT/8:30 p.m. PT/11:30pm ET.  Tickets are priced at 600, 500, 400, 300, 200 & 100 Pesos and are available at the El Domo box office.

SIX QUESTIONS WITH SHARIF ‘THE LION’ BOGERE

Undefeated Ugandan Fighter Looking Forward to Some Hometown Fun

Against Fellow Unbeaten Francisco Contreras This Friday Night
On ShoBox: The New Generation

Jermell Charlo Takes On Francisco Santana In Co-Feature
Friday, Oct. 7, LIVE on SHOWTIME® at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast)

NEW YORK (Oct. 4, 2011) – Already a star in his native land of Uganda, current NABO lightweight champion
Sharif “The Lion” Bogere is ready to make a name for himself in his adopted hometown of Las Vegas.

The 22-year-old Bogere (20-0, 12 KOs), who beat Ray Beltran on ShoBox last May 13, takes on young prospect Francisco Contreras(16-0, 13 KOs) of the Dominican Republic in defense of his belt in a 10-round affair at the Dallas Events Center at Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas on ShoBox: The New GenerationFriday, Oct. 7, LIVE on SHOWTIME (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).

“This is my hometown fight,” Bogere said.  “I don’t have to travel and I get to sleep in my own bed.  My friends and family with be there watching.  I’m going to welcome (Contreras) to Las Vegas and then I’m going to send him packing with a knockout.”

Question: You were on your country’s national boxing team.  What is the biggest difference between the amateur and professional games?

BOGERE: “I think in the pros it’s mostly about concentration and you can’t take anyone lightly in the pros like in the amateurs.  Every one is going after the same goal in the pros.  It’s all about getting that world title belt.”

Question: Why did you decide to leave your home country to live and train in the United States three years ago?

BOGERE: “I knew I had to make the move in order to reach my ultimate goal.  I wasn’t getting the proper training in Uganda that I needed to become a world champion.  Here in Vegas there are so many pro fighters.  I don’t have to go far to get the work in that I need to be the best.”

Question: What was it like growing up in Uganda?

BOGERE: “I really grew up in a tough part of the country.  Boxing was my way out.  It literally saved my life.  There were kidnappings on the streets when I was a kid, but they stayed away from me because they saw potential in me.”

Question: How did you learn to box?

BOGERE: “I was really self-taught and now that I’m working with a world-class trainer like Kenny (Adams), I see things differently in the ring.  It has been a little difficult just listening to my trainers and trying to do what they tell me, but I know I have to listen and do what they say.  It’s the only way I’m going to keep getting better and keep my perfect record.”

Question: What will the SHOWTIME boxing fans see from you come Friday night?

BOGERE: “I think they’ll be most impressed with my power and my speed.  I can hurt you in so many ways.  And then there’s the ring entrance.”

Question: You came in the ring in a cage last time you fought.  What is your plan this time out?

BOGERE: “I’ve put a lot of thought into the ring entrance.  I will be carried into the ring in a cage by actual African tribesman.  I know that boxing is about entertaining and that people who pay to watch boxing want to be entertained.  They want to have fun.  I’ll have the lion’s head and skin brought in again.  It’s all part of the show.”

Curt Menefee will call the ShoBox action from ringside with Steve Farhood and Antonio Tarver serving as the expert analysts. Gordon Hall is the executive producer of ShoBox with Richard Gaughan producing and Rick Phillips directing.

Bogere vs. Contreras, a 10-round bout for the NABO lightweight championship and Charlo vs. Santana, an eight round junior middleweight bout, are presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate and AT&T.  The doubleheader will be televised LIVE on ShoBox: The New Generation at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast) on SHOWTIME.

Tickets, priced at $25 and $50, are on sale now and available for purchase at all Station Casinos and Fiesta Rewards Centers or through Ticketmaster by calling (800) 745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

Lombard vs. Prangley Headline Bellator 58 From Seminole Hard Rock on November 19

Posted on | October 4, 2011 | No Comments

CHICAGO, Ill. (October 4, 2011) — Bellator Fighting Championships announced today that reigning middleweight champion Hector Lombard will put his 24-fight undefeated streak on the line against former UFC fighter Trevor Prangley in a non-title catchweight fight at 195 pounds from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino at Bellator 58 LIVE on MTV2 and in commercial-free HD on EPIX at 9 p.m. ET. Tickets for the November 19th event are on sale now at Ticketmaster.com. The preliminary card for this event will be streamed LIVE and FREE around the world on Spike.com, starting at 7 p.m. ET.

Widely regarded as one of the top middleweights in the world and a fighter known for taking every fight put in front of him, Lombard enters the bout looking to continue his dominating run through MMA. The imposing knockout artist  has claimed victory in his last 19 fights with 15 coming by finish, including a devastating knockout against Falaniko Vitale at Bellator 44 (Watch Here: http://bit.ly/mj5pYX). A former Judo Olympian with a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and knockout power in both hands, Lombard is always eager to get back into the cage and continue as one of the most devastating fighters in the sport.

“I just want November to get here and knock someone out,” Lombard said. “I doesn’t matter who it is, I just want to do what I do and that’s win. I don’t know much about Trevor, but it doesn’t matter. I’ll be in front of my fans in Florida, and it’s going to be a show.”

While Lombard may not be very familiar with Prangley, the MMA world should be, as the longtime MMA veteran holds notable victories over Chael Sonnen, Matt Horwich and Keith Jardine. The South Africa native is always looking to finish, and knows exactly what to expect on November 19th.

“Both of us are going to get in that cage and throw bombs, no questions asked,” Prangley said. “It’s no secret both of us like to stand and bang, and that’s exactly what everyone is going to get. I know Hector is really tough on his feet, but so am I, so he’s going to have to play my game when the cage door shuts.”

“Securing the leg and helping her regain a normal daily routine is part 1” says Chamberland and adds “the next step is making sure she can be mobile and independent through her home. I am so pleased that ABC decided to help this amazing young girl and her family in a time of need”.

Promoter believes Sheffield fight could be Brook’s last in the UK

Kell Brook faces Rafal Jackiewicz in a World title eliminator at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Saturday night in Sheffield – and promoter Eddie Hearn says it could be Brook’s last fight in the UK before he hits America.

Brook puts his WBA Inter-Continental title on the line against the rugged former European Champion as he continues to knock on the door of the title holders in boxing’s toughest division.

The unbeaten 25 year-old has been linked with a number of blockbuster fights in the new year as a World title shot draws ever closer and Hearn, who was Stateside last week for Darren Barker’s big night with Sergio Martinez, believes he could be ready to make his American debut early in 2012.

“Every time I’m in America I’m bombarded with questions about Kell,” said Hearn. “We have already had some interesting offers and it’s inevitable that Kell will make his mark there soon. Kell has that crossover appeal, superstar potential that will in time make him a global star. First thing first he has to deal with Rafal and do it convincingly – then we are going after that World title.”

Kell Brook and Rafal Jackiewicz will come face-to-face for the first time on Thursday when members of the media are invited to a press conference at the Mercure Hotel in Sheffield at noon for a 12.30pm start. Interviews with both fighters after the press conference will be available.

Black Eye Promotions – Breast Cancer Beatdown

Blackeye Promotions brought down the house with another epic event as Blackeye Promotions V – Breast Cancer Beatdown at the WNC AG Center in Fletcher, North Carolina saw the ladies of MMA take center stage and not disappoint. The show had great fights and finishes and part of the proceeds went to the charity, It Ain’t Chemo, to benefit all cancer research and those affected by the disease.

With the current landscape of Women’s MMA being on shaky ground, Blackeye Promotions provided a platform for some of the top female athletes in the sport to ply their trade. In the main event, Barb Honchak (5-1) defeated Strikeforce vet Roxanne Modafferi (14-7) by rear naked choke in Round 3 in a 125 lb bout. The opening round saw Honchak attempt a rear naked choke and armbar but Modafferi was able to counter the moves and go for a Kimura of her own off of one transition. The second round was also Honchak’s as she used strong wrestling for takedowns, ground control and even landed a few elbows to close the round. In the third, after a quick scramble Honchak landed in the mount where she transitioned to Modafferi’s back, landed a couple more big punches and then secured the fight ending submission for the tapout victory. This win was the biggest of Honchak’s career and proves that women’s MMA is alive and well even if you have to look a little harder to find it. There is a strong stable of high-level female mixed martial artists and that pool is only going to get larger.

In another anticipated fight, Patricia Vidonic (4-1) defeated Chelsea Colarelli (6-3) by rear naked choke in Round 2 in another exciting 125 lb bout. Colarelli was on a five-fight win streak, all by submission or knockout, but she ran into a buzz saw in Vidonic who has now won four fights in a row. The end came off of a beautiful transition on the ground by Vidonic who locked on a triangle submission then rolled to mount. From there Vidonic landed several strikes only to have Colarelli escape from the position. Vidonic then transitioned to Colarelli’s back and sunk in the choke for the submission win. It would be great to see a Barb Honchak versus Patricia Vidonic match as both women showed tremendous heart and skill in their matches. Hopefully Blackeye Promotions already has their sights set on promoting that barnburner of a fight.

Blackeye Promotions V – Breast Cancer Beatdown was a fantastic card and also had a great cause attached to it. Don’t miss this exciting, progressive, event, as the women of MMA take over the night to battle inside of the cage, with the money raised going to fight cancer. The only way to watch this exciting 16-bout card is to order it exclusively through the GFL Combat Sports Network at GFL.tv.
