SPONSOR IVO DOS SANTOS IN JUDO QUALIFYING EFFORT

Posted on | September 12, 2011 | No Comments

Hi, as you may or may not know my name is Ivo Dos Santos and I’m a Judo player from Melbourne working towards Olympic Qualification for London 2012.
Judo is an amateur sport and receives very little government funding. I have to fund my travel all over the world out of my own pocket and it’s not easy. I am blessed with a couple of great sponsors who help me with training materials and some of the smaller expenses but when your travel bills come up to around $20,000 a year it becomes a hell of a stretch.
So, with the help of some suppliers I am able to offer a sponsorship opportunity to you and your company that would benefit both parties. I have managed to find some friends in design and manufacturing which will be helping me create some Ivojudo UFC-Style walkout shirts.
For a reasonable price, your company’s logo can be printed on the front, back or sleaves of the shirt. With the help of a few generous companies we can get the price of the shirts quite low and then the profits will go towards training, competition and travel expenses incurred in qualification for London 2012.
We will be doing an initial run of 150 shirts. That means your logo will not only be used to support an Aussie athlete following his Olympic Dream but will also be present on 150 walking, talking advertisements for your company.
The cost is: Back $400, Sleeves $350 and Front $500
Attached is a mock up template of what the shirt may come to look like. There will be a some more graphic work (including some Japanese Kanji) added to the front and sides once we have finalised the size and colours of the sponsor plates.
I appreciate your support in helping me chase my dream. Being an Olympian is something that I have dreamed about since I was 5 years old and now, with your support it is so close to realization.

Kind Regards

Ivo Dos Santos

McGuinness-Gaudet Headlines Canadian Showdown Oct. 22 in Ontario

Posted on | September 12, 2011 | No Comments

TORONTO (September 12, 2011) – The much-anticipated Canadian showdown between undefeated World Boxing Association (“WBA”) No. 11-rated Logan Cotton McGuinness and former world title challenger Benoit Gaudet will headline a rivalry show, presented by Hennessy Sports in association with Interbox and United Promotions, on Saturday night, October 22 at The Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.

The pair of Canadian combatants has been on a collision course for nearly two years, since the younger McGuinness established himself as a legitimate national prospect. The stacked McGuinness-Gaudet card features many of the leading prospects in Canada.

“We’re thrilled that the McGuinness-Gaudet fight is finally happening,” promoter Adam Harris (Hennessy Sports) said.“We’ve worked very hard to put Logan and Gaudet in the ring together because Canadian fight fans have been clamoring for this match-up. Without question, we know that this is the stiffest test of Logan career to date, as well as a boxing fans dream match between a skilled boxer and pressure fighter. It’s going to be a great fight.”

McGuinness (15-0-1, 7 KOs), fighting out of Orangeville, Ontario, is a hot prospect who has been the North American Boxing Association (“NABA”) Lightweight Champion for the past 13 months, but the Irish-Canadian will abdicate his belt in order to challenge Gaudet for the vacant NABA super featherweight title.

The 31-year-old Gaudet (24-2, 10 KOs), of Quebec, owned the NABA super featherweight crown in 2007-2008, and is a past Canadian lightweight champion. In 2009, Gaudet was stopped by defending champion Humberto Soto in their World Boxing Council (“WBC”) super featherweight championship match, which was the co-feature on the Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton mega-fight card..

Unbeaten Columbian welterweight Samuel Vargas (7-0-1, 1 KO), fighting out of Mississauga, Ontario, faces outspoken Montreal favorite Ahmad Cheikho (6-3-2, 5 KOs) in the 8/10-round co-feature. The relentless, pressuring Vargas has been inactive since February due to an injury and recovery, while Cheikho finds himself in a crossroads fight.

In a six-round bout, former Canadian amateur standout Ibrahim “Firearm” Kamal (4-0, 4 KOs) plans to continue his perfect pro streak against TBA, while a pair of Ontario lightweights – Jeremy Abbott (2-2, 1 KO) and Harrison McBain (3-3-1) – throw-down in an expected 4/6 round war.

Also fighting on the undercard in four-round bouts are Ontario fighters Dillon Carmen(1-0), a heavyweight prospect, light middleweight Brandon “Bad Boy” Cook(2-00, 1 KO), and super featherweight Natasha Spence (2-0-1, 2 KOs). All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Tickets, starting at $30.00, may be purchased at the Hersey Centre Box Office, or through Ticketmaster at 416.872.5000 or ticketmaster.ca.

MMA – Review of ROC XXXVII Friday Night Event

Ring of Combat XXXVII

Click here to watch this event on GoFightLive!

Ring of Combat returned with the 37th installment of the popular East Coast MMA promotion as Ring of Combat XXXVII gave the fans 3 exciting title fights on an 11-bout card. All 11 bouts ended in finishes with spectacular knockouts and submissions. This event was definitely a crowd-pleaser and a very rare opportunity for the fans to get to see stoppages in every bout.

In the main event, Deividas Taurosevicious (13-5) submitted Ronnie Rogers (9-6) via rear naked choke in Round 2 to win the 145 lb ROC Title. Taurosevicious, who has fought for a variety of top organizations in his career, including Bellator, WEC and the IFL, finally got a chance to put gold around his waist to the cheers of the crowd. Taurosevicious, who played professional rugby in his home country of Lithuania, proved too much for the determined Rogers, who was a late replacement, but a deserving challenger for the featherweight belt. A Renzo Gracie student, Taurosevicious was able to control the ground fighting and finally secured the choke midway through round two for the victory.

In a rematch for the ROC Lightweight Championship, Champion Al Iaquinta (6-0-1) defeated Gabriel Miglioli (2-3) by TKO in Round 1 to prove to everybody that he is the best at 155 lb in the ROC cage. The two fought earlier in the year with Iaquinta winning by split decision, but there would be no debate after this bout. Iaquinta attacked at the bell and landed hard punches that forced the referee stoppage less than 30 seconds into the bout.

In the other title fight, Tom DeBlass (5-0) remained undefeated as he beat TUF alum Mike Stewart (5-3) to win the ROC Light Heavyweight Title via TKO in Round 1. After a brief stint on the mat started by a strong takedown by Stewart in which he ended up in DeBlass’ guard, both men got to their feet and starting throwing haymakers. DeBlass found a home for his left hook and dropped Stewart and then finished up with a couple strikes on the ground for the victory. DeBlass is a blue-chipper who trains with some of the best in the world including Renzo Gracie and Ricardo Almeida so look for more big things from this fighter.

You won’t find a more action-packed fight card then this. ROC went 11 for 11 with stoppages, and there wasn’t a boring fight among the group. Some of the best fighters in the world have fought in the Ring of Combat cage, and this card is stacked full of some of the top prospects soon to make a splash on the national scene. Be sure to catch all of the action as Ring of Combat presents ROC XXXVII exclusively on video on demand at GFL.tv.For full fight card and more details about this event, visit gfl.tv or click here
