Amanda Serrano steps-up to fight for IBF World title Saturday night at home in Brooklyn
Posted on | September 8, 2011 | No Comments
NEW YORK (September 8, 2011) – Unbeaten NABF Featherweight Champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serranosteps-up one weight class for her first world title fight, when she takes on WIBF Inter-Continental lightweight titlistKimberly Connor in a 10-round bout for the vacant International Boxing Federation (“IBF”) junior lightweight title, Saturday night at home in Brooklyn’s Aviator Sports Complex.
“It’s wonderful,” Amanda remarked about fighting for her first world title at home in Brooklyn. “It’s nerve wracking. I’m anxious, really excited and all of these emotions are mixed-up. I’m going to have a lot of people there supporting me.”
The 23-year-old Serrano (11-0-1, 7 KOs), a native of Puerto Rico who is now fighting out of Brooklyn, will be attempting to become the first world champion in her family, as well as the Boxing 360 stable. Her older sister, Cindy “Checkmate” Serrano (15-3-2, 7 KOs), fights Anne Sophie Mathis (24-1, 21 KOs) on October 1 in France for the WIBA, WIBF and WBF welterweight championships. The sisters often spar together and somewhere down the road they may face each other in a fight.
“Cindy worked real hard and led the path for me,” Amanda noted. “She opened a lot of doors for me. “She’s just as excited about this fight as me. Winning a world title first really doesn’t matter. It’s cool because we live together and we’ll both be able to see the title belt every day. We’re the best sparring partner for each other. I never have a good day with her. We both agree that we’d rather fight than spar each other. I don’t know too much about my opponent other than she’s tough. I hope she’s trained hard for this fight and is willing to die in the ring like I am.”
Serrano and Connor are rated No. 5 and No. 8, respectfully, by the IBF.
“We’re proud of Amanda and what she’s accomplished so far in the ring and believe that this is just the beginning for her,” Boxing 360 CEO & Founder Mario Yagobi said. “She’s earned this title shot and we’re confident that she will become our first world champion.”
Connor (9-1-2, 4 KOs), who lives in Arkansas, appreciates her title-shot opportunity. “I’m very happy to be fighting for a world title and believe that this could be my time,” Connor commented. “I’m excited because I’ve never fought outside the South. This is my first time in New York City. It’s huge. The entire population of Arkansas could fit in one of these boroughs.
“I know Amanda is really good, quick and a southpaw. I know fighting her will step-up my game. I have a pretty good jab but tend to brawl a bit. It all depends on who I’m fighting and what approach she decides to take. I do like to brawl and fans enjoy watching my style of fighting.”
Other members of Boxing 360’s stable include USBA heavyweight champion Maurice Sugar Moe” Harris, WBC #5 super bantamweight Leon “Hurry Up” Moore, former IBF super middleweight champion Alejandro “Naco” Berrio, unbeaten welterweight prospect Vitaliy “Demyan” Demyanenko, WBC Caribbean & NY State super middleweight champion Lennox “2 Sharpe” Allen, Dominican lightweight champion Eudy “AK47” Bernardo, KO king Tyrone Brunson, Mike Mollo, Nick “Hands of Gold” Casal, middleweight prospect DonYil Livingston, Joel Diaz Jr., and “King” David Estrada.

SIX QUESTIONS WITH VINCENT “VINSANITY” ARROYO

Buffalo Welterweight Looking to Excite the Crowd
on ShoBox: The New Generation in Hinckley, Minn.
Vincent “Vinsanity” Arroyo vs. Hector “El Flaco” Sanchez in Main Event
Lateef “Power” Kayode Vs. Felix “Bad News” Cora Jr. in Co-Feature
Friday, Sept. 9, LIVE on SHOWTIME® at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast)
NEW YORK (Sept. 8, 2011) – Give Vincent “Vinsanity” Arroyo (11-1, 7 KOs) a brutally cold Buffalo winter day to train and he’s as happy as can be. The 24-year-old explained why and answered other questions just days before his 10-round welterweight fight againstHector “El Flaco” Sanchez (19-1, 9 KOs) on ShoBox: The New Generation, Friday, Sept. 9 LIVE on SHOWTIME® (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).
Question: What’s the coldest weather you’ve ever run outdoors in during a Buffalo winter?
Arroyo: “Oh, man, you don’t even want to know. To be honest with you, I love running in the winter. There’s definitely snow on the ground. I love it when the winds blowing and it’s bone-chilling cold and snowing. [I do it] just to test myself, to battle all forms of adversity.”
Question: What do you think about Hector Sanchez?
Arroyo: “I don’t think much of him, just like I didn’t think much about Willie Nelson in my last SHOWTIME fight. I don’t care about any fighter. I just care about myself and knowing that I’m going to war against another guy. I don’t care about talking junk. I don’t care about nothing but winning. It’s what drives me and keeps me going in this game.”
Question: Growing up in New York, was it always your dream to fight at Madison Square Garden?
Arroyo: “Yes, of course. I’ve always had that dream. I would like to fight there and go down in history with some of the great fighters like Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier and Felix Trinidad. But I’m in no rush. I still have a lot of learning to do. But it’s always fun to dream.”
Question: What fighters did you look up to as a kid and whose style do you try to emulate?
Arroyo: “I emulate myself. I never take anything from anyone. I fight like me and only me. I grew up watching Trinidad, (Hector) Camacho, (Julio Cesar) Chavez, Mike Tyson. One of my all-time favorites was Roy Jones Jr. People think I have the same style and that I’m a forward fighter. I just want to put my name up there with the greats.”
Question: Was your father a big influence in your decision to become a professional fighter?
Arroyo: “My father was a Golden Gloves champion and he watches my fights and congratulates me but he’s been out of the game for a while. My trainers Hector Alejandro and Rick Diaz have been there for me the entire time and I would say they are my biggest influences.”
Question: What can we expect to see from “Vinsanity” Friday night?
Arroyo: “It’s going to be sensational. Take this down: It’s always different when you see Vincent Arroyo. You never know what you’re going to see or what’s going to happen. I don’t know if it will be a knockout or if we’ll go to the cards, but I will be the last man standing. It will definitely not be boring.”

Kevin Lavallee, is a young and exciting boxer that is extremely dedicated to his craft. A super-featherweight with an impressive record of 5-0-1, with 5 KO’s. In his last fight on August 5th 2011, Kevin had a spectacular KO win which has helped him continue to build a strong fan-base in his hometown of Montreal.
Only one week after his last win, Kevin had the opportunity to join his coach Russ Anber and World Champion Sergio Martinez at Martinez’s training camp in Oxnard, California as Martinez began his preparation for his up coming fight with Darren Barker on October 1st in Atlantic City. Kevin was welcomed into the Martinez camp with opened arms and trained extremely hard and impressed Sergio Martinez and everyone in camp. It was after an early 5:30 AM run when Martinez named Lavallee, “Maquina”, which means “Machine” in Spanish. With these opportunities, there’s no doubt this will help pave the way for Kevin Lavallee’s future success.
Kevin, a university student, grew up in Ste-Adele, Quebec, a small town 60 km north of Montreal. Russ offered his services to Kevin even though his time was heavily invested in Otis Grant and other pros at the time. Russ had a soft spot for Kevin as he too was originally from Ste-Adele, Quebec. With the support of his family, Kevin traveled long distances for his boxing training which showed how dedicated he was to learning. Kevin had a good amateur career and with the proper guidance from Russ Anber has allowed Kevin to have a great transition to the pro ranks. Only 20 years old, Kevin Lavallee has developed a slick, crowd-pleasing, aggressive style with lots of potential to make it on the world stage. For full fight card and more details about this event, visit gfl.tv or click here

‘A Fighting Spirit’ looks at the NY MMA community in the wake of 9-11
Posted on | September 8, 2011 | No Comments
This Sunday marks the ten-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The way America looked at itself was altered immensely on that date, and a decade later the world is a very different place. Memories of panic and uncertainty are still present, but the urge to keep moving forward is even stronger.
In remembrance of this anniversary, MMA news & editorial website, TheFightNerd.com, has released an exclusive short-film that commemorates this event alongside the New York MMA community. “A Fighting Spirit” is a video memoir that interviews members of the NY martial arts community and discusses where they were when the Towers collapsed, how they have coped, and how New York and America have grown stronger.
Directed by Kahleem Poole-Tejada (director of the full-length documentary “New York MMA,” which will be shown at this year’s Fight Summit in Las Vegas in December) and produced by Matthew Kaplowitz (Editor-in-Chief of TheFightNerd.com) in association with Ranger Up (www.RangerUp.com), the film takes viewers around a tour of downtown Manhattan and provides a glimpse inside several of New York City’s top MMA gyms.
It features many NY-based fighters, such as Renzo Gracie, Chris Weidman, Pete “Drago” Sell, and Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro, as well as Stephen Koepfer of NY Combat Sambo, Mark Yehia of “Elite Plus MMA,” Rob Constance of “The Renzo Gracie Academy,” and Emilio Novoa, President of ADCC North America. Also appearing is UFC middleweight fighter Jorge Rivera, as well as Strikeforce middleweight Tim Kennedy, who adds the voices of members of the U.S. Armed Forces to this emotional piece.
The feature can be viewed at the link below:

Posted on | September 8, 2011 | No Comments
MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 8, 2011) – A little more than month after registering on national television the most significant victory of his young pro boxing career, undefeated 2008 U.S. Olympian Demetrius“Boo Boo” Andrade(14-0, 9 KOs) returns Wednesday, September 21 to headline the 10th annual Fight To Educate at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Andrade, fighting out of Providence, won a commanding, one-sided win by unanimous decision this past August 19thagainst The Contender, Season 2 winner Grady Brewer, winning nine of 10 rounds on all three of the judges’ scorecards. The 23-year-old Andrade, universally regarded as one of the top prospects in the world, has cracked the ratings at No. 3 in the North American Boxing Federation and No. 15 by the United States Boxing Association.
A year ago, the gifted light middleweight fought on the Fight To Educate card, stopping Dave Sanders in the second round. Andrade takes on former two-time world title challenger Saul “Baby” Duran (38-18-2, 31 KOs) in this year’s 10-round main event.

Medina, a native of Mexico, is coming off a controversial eight-round draw against former world champion Joachim Alcine, in which most observers felt Medina deserved a victory. In January, Medina scored a shocking fourth-round knockout of 17-1 Isaac Rodrigues.
Fighting on the undercard in four-round matches are Claremont (NH) lightweight Dan Powers (3-0, 2 KOs) vs. Luis Rosario, and Windsor (VT) welterweight Chris Gilbert (1-0, 1 KO) vs. Noel Garcia.
Fight To Educate is a unique charity event that combines a love of sports with the vision of assisting children and seniors in need, who with fundraisers like this could be ‘down for the count.’ During the past nine years, Fight To Educate has raised more than $500,000 in donations benefitting local New Hampshire non-profit organizations.
Proceeds from the 10th annual Fight To Educate will benefit SEE Science Center (www.see-sciencecenter.org), The Bobby Stephens Fund for Education (www.stepheneducationfund.com)
