‘MARCH BADNESS’

NABA title fight March 31 in Buffalo

BUFFALO (January 19, 2012) – Don Juan Fighting Promotions and Hennessy Sports announced today that they will co-promote the March 31 homecoming show, “March Badness,” showcasing undefeated Buffalo light heavyweight Lionell “Lonnie B” Thompson against 2008 Haitian OlympianAzea “The Haitian Hitman” Augustama in the 10-round main event for the vacant North American Boxing Association (“NABA”) title, at the Buffalo-Niagara Convention Center in Buffalo.

“This is a thrilling matchup that promises to be a title fight to remember,” co-promoter Juan Santiago(Don Juan Fighting Promotions) said. “Boxing is back in Buffalo with Lionell ‘Lonnie B’ Thompson fighting for his first championship title. I expect that this will be the first of many fights presented in Buffalo with Lionell at the helm. Strap on your seatbelts and come along for the ride. A champion will be crowned in Buffalo and ‘Lonnie B’ will make it look like easy work. Don’t miss it! I’m proud to share in this mutual vision working with Hennessey Sports to promote Lionell, as well as other local fighters from Canada and the United States, right here in Buffalo.”

“We’re excited to be working with Don Juan Fighting Promotions to put on this great show featuring an NABA title fight in Buffalo featuring hometown favorite Lionell Thompson,” co-promoter Adam Harris(Hennessy Sports) added. “He is one of the most promising prospects in the 175-pound division. Lionell is a fan-friendly fighter with knockout power in both hands. Augustama will certainly be the toughest test of Lionell’s pro career in what promises to be an electric night of boxing and a very entertaining main event.”

Rated as high as No. 2 in his division as a U.S. amateur boxer, the 26-year-old Thompson (12-0, 8 KOs) was a five-time New York Golden Glove and three-time Empire State champion. “Lonnie B” will be fighting in his third different country in his last three fights having won in Canada and the United Kingdom, both by second round knockout.

Augustama (11-1, 6 KOs), who fights out of Hollywood, Florida, also was a decorated amateur boxer. He won a gold medal at the 2008 US National Golden Gloves Tournament, including a second-round decision victory against J’Leon Love, who today is a 10-0 pro middleweight prospect.

Also scheduled to fight on the Mar. 31 pro-am card, against opponents to be determined, are Canadian lightweight Steven Wilcox, popular Ontario middleweight Brandon “Bad Boy” Cook (4-0, 2 KOs) Derby, New York featherweight Michael “Action” Jackson, and Buffalo heavyweight Excell Holmes (2-0-1, 1 KO), plus four scheduled amateur matches.

The 21-year-old Wilcox, from Hamilton, Ontario, is scheduled to make his pro debut February 11 in Mississauga, Ontario. He is the oldest of five fighting Wilcox brothers and the first to turn pro. All of the boys are trained by their father at his gym in Hamilton, Steeltown Boxing Club.

Cook is a throwback fighter with a growing fan-base in Ajax, Ontario, who is also fighting on the Feb. 11 show in Canada. Brandon’s an aggressive, boxer-puncher who International Boxing Hall of Fame nominee announcer Al Bernstein, calling a Cook fight from ringside, referred to him as a bigger version of all-action lightweight Brandon Rios.

Contrary to rumors Jackson is not related to the late “King of Pop” with the same name, while Holmes remains a hometown favorite who stands 6′ 2″ and weighs 230-pounds.

Tickets, starting at $25.00, are available to purchase by going on line to http://www.clicketix.com/boxing.htm.

Doors open at 5:00 PM/ET, first pro bout at 7 PM/ET. Go on line at www.HennessySports.com for more information about Thompson and the Mar. 31 show.

“If you look at the level of promotion and support that we are putting into Ortiz-Berto II, you’d assume that Feb. 11 was a pay-per-view event,” said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports. “Producing an Ortiz-Berto II version of FIGHT CAMP 360°allows fight fans to get excited about a fight that comes without the pay-per-view price tag, just as the network did with FIGHT CAMP 360°: Inside the Super Six World Boxing Classic. Both Victor and Andre have astounding background stories–not to mention a lot to prove on Feb. 11–so I expect the series to be captivating to our core boxing audience and general sports fans alike.”

AUDLEY HARRISON MAKES UK BOXING COMEBACK

Posted on | January 19, 2012 | No Comments

“REDEMPTION OR RETIREMENT”

On 14th April 2012 at the Brentwood Centre Essex, former Olympic and European Champion and World title challenger Audley Harrison, makes his return to the ring when he faces the up and coming prospect Ali Adams in a 10 round Championship contest.

Audley wants redemption for his performance against David Haye, where he has been the subject of mass criticism for his performance. Audley says he wants to come back and give it one last shot, but Ali Adams is determined to close the curtain on his career.

Audley said ‘I’ve never been more disappointed in myself as I felt that night…anyone can lose, but I didn’t lose with dignity, so I was never going to retire on that performance’.

After falling off the boxing radar when slipping to that famous defeat against Haye, many of the British boxing public will be looking to see whether or not Harrison deserves one last roll of the dice with Adams providing a very stern test.

Audley said ‘I’ve been sitting on the shelf for 15 months, so I’m grateful for this opportunity…with my right arm now healed, I’ll have too much for Ali Adams. I intend to show I still have a future in the game’.

Promoter Steve Goodwin of Goodwin Promotions who has secured the staging of this exciting bout stated “Audley has a big name in boxing and beyond, as was seen with his success in “Strictly Come Dancing”. We will see whether his fighting days are over. Ali is hungry, fit and has tons of heart and believes this is his date with destiny, whilst for Audley it is his final chance; retirement beckons if Audley loses this bout…I’m so confident that Ali has his number; I’ve put my money where my mouth is and made this fight without TV…

Adams may be somewhat of an unknown to the casual boxing fan, however the Iraqi-born heavyweight, who picked up his first title last time out in December, now looks to make the step up in class by fighting Harrison.

Ali said “Audley is a joke. His fight with Haye was an embarrassment and he still wants to make a comeback. I will give him such a beating that Audley will see he does not belong in a boxing ring again.”

The bill will be action packed including the return of Prizefighter Welterweight Champion Yassine “The showman” El Maachi in a 10 round title contest.

The most exciting boxer in Africa and Ghanaian champion Richard Commey, who has 11 wins from 11 fights all by knockout, will make his first appearance in the UK. His advisor Michael Amoo-Bediako says “ We want to show the British public a future World Champion; in 12 months he will be ready for Ricky Burns”.

Further top class fighters will be added to the bill over the next few weeks.

Tickets are available at £100 (VIP Inner Ringside including Champagne Reception) £70 (Reserved Ringside) and £40 unreserved available from www.goodwinpromotions.co.uk or 01525 851150

HDNET, AEG, RYAN SEACREST MEDIA, AND CAA ESTABLISH JOINT VENTURE TO REBRAND HDNET AS AXS TV

Posted on | January 18, 2012 | No Comments

Beginning Summer 2012, AXS TV Will Deliver a Full Schedule of

Live Entertainment and Lifestyle Programming to More Than

35 Million Homes Across North America

DISH Network Commits to Expanded Distribution of Rebranded Network,

While Providing Video-On-Demand Concerts and

Unique Ticketing Opportunities for Subscribers

LOS ANGELES (January 18, 2012) – HDNet, AEG, Ryan Seacrest Media, and Creative Artists Agency (CAA) today announced a joint venture that will rebrand HDNet/HDNet Canada to launch AXS TV (pronounced: access). Scheduled to debut this summer, AXS TV will leverage the global reach and portfolio of content opportunities of its partners to create live entertainment and lifestyle programming. Capitalizing on AEG’s unrivaled presence in live events and affiliation with more than 100 of the industry’s pre-eminent venues worldwide, AXS TV will provide viewers with exclusive behind-the-scenes access to live concerts and music festivals, red carpet premieres, award shows, parties, pop culture events, and in-depth interviews with the people and artists who make live entertainment so uniquely fascinating

HDNet’s signature programming including HDNet Fights, Inside MMA, award-winning Dan Rather Reports, Sunday concert series, and select non-scripted series will continue on AXS TV.

As part of their agreement with the joint venture, DISH will offer a variety of unique music services to their subscribers.

“I’m incredibly excited to be in business with AEG, Ryan Seacrest, and CAA,” said Mark Cuban, Co-Founder and Chairman, HDNet.  “This is a major step on our way to offering more live programming than any other entertainment and lifestyle network.  And our partnership with DISH to offer unique subscriber services will allow AXS TV to change the value proposition between networks, distributors, and subscribers.  AXS TV will unquestionably be able to leverage our unique assets to do things no other network will be able to replicate.”

With production facilities at AEG’s owned and operated L.A. LIVE (which includes venues such as STAPLES Center, Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE, Club Nokia and The GRAMMY Museum’s Clive Davis Theater), as well as their access to their worldwide network of the busiest venues of all sizes, AXS TV will have the inside track to programming that will connect audiences with the complete live experience. From show creation and development to rehearsals, sound-check and performance and right thru the after-party, viewers will get an immersive look into their favorite acts touring today, AXS TV will span the globe to bring viewers the best live entertainment events.

AEG is very pleased to be involved with Mark Cuban and HDNet and equally as proud to have partners like Ryan Seacrest Media and CAA,” said Timothy J. Leiweke, President & CEO, AEG.  “The live business continues to grow and expand and the ability to give fans the opportunity to experience live in a different way is something we have been looking for a way to do for years.”

“As part of a point of emanation for content, we are excited to provide the resources of L.A. LIVE, the O2 and our London campus among the many assets we are bringing into the partnership.  In addition, we are excited that AXS TV will have a host studio at L.A. LIVE.  This is a natural tie-in for our ticketing platform, axs Ticketing, as well as our facilities around the world.

This is a platform for all agents, all promoters and all managers.  It is not the creation of an AEG channel.  It is about the fans and bringing the live experience to them,” Leiweke added.

Representatives of the joint venture also announced that DISH, the nation’s third largest pay-TV provider, has agreed to expand its carriage of the rebranded HDNet by offering it in the America’s Top 120 programming package, bringing millions more DISH customers access to the rebranded channel and resulting in AXS TV reaching well over 35 million North American households.

In addition to the increased distribution of the re-branded network, DISH will begin offering a large selection of AXS-branded Video On Demand concerts starting on March 15, 2012.  Capitalizing on AEG’s unrivaled presence in the promotion of live events and nationwide network of clubs, DISH will work with AEG to offer unique ticketing opportunities for DISH viewers of AXS TV. Amenities include special ticketing opportunities, premium seating, private viewing areas and food & beverage specials. Starting August 1, 2012, DISH and AXS TV will launch AXSHeadliner Club, an online audition site providing local bands and musicians the opportunity to audition to perform at an AEG-affiliated club or theater.

“AXS TV brings DISH subscribers a premier TV destination for concert-goers to watch the most popular concert acts and provide opportunities for unique ticket sales at venues near them,” said Joe Clayton, CEO, DISH. “The new DISH is all about ‘more music, more movies, and more magic.’  So, we’re pleased to provide a majority of our subscribers front row seats to this innovative channel.”

AXS TV will continue to be available on HDNet’s existing distributors including DIRECTV, Comcast, Verizon, AT&T, Charter, NCTC-member systems, Suddenlink and Shaw (in Canada).

Ryan Seacrest Media holds an ownership stake in AXS TV, and will provide access to multi-media platforms, and celebrity and brand relationships, as well as assist in the corporate brand development for AXS TV. As part of the deal, Ryan Seacrest Productions, an independent entertainment production company, will also develop and produce programming for AXS TV.

”Over the last year, we’ve been diligently working with our partners AEG and CAA to strategize and explore how we could deliver quality live entertainment and lifestyle programming to a large audience. HDNet is the perfect partner to help us translate our vision into a reality, giving us an instant reach into 35 million homes when we rebrand the channel and launch AXS TV,” said Ryan Seacrest.  “Mark Cuban and Tim Leiweke bring a tremendous amount of entrepreneurial experience and spirit to this venture, and I’m confident our collective collaboration will make AXS a success,” he added.

CAA will access its extensive experience, expertise, and relationships in entertainment to help create valuable content relationships for the network and provide strategic advisory services in the areas of corporate development, marketing, technology, and brand integration and sponsorship, among others. Seacrest is represented by CAA.

“We have worked closely with AEG and Ryan Seacrest to conceptualize a new network that could benefit from our combined resources and create a new distribution opportunity for artists and content creators and their high-quality entertainment and lifestyle programming,” said David O’Connor, Managing Partner, CAA.  “Mark Cuban and his HDNet make a terrific partner for this venture, and we look forward to joining forces to help build AXS into a premier cable destination for entertainment enthusiasts.”
