Rendall Munroe Bins Gloves And Laces Up Boots For Charity Football Tournament

Posted on | August 2, 2011 | No Comments

WBA International Super Bantamweight Champion Rendall Munroe is set to dump his gloves, albeit temporarily, and lace up his boots and take part in the upcoming TRAD TKO Boxing Gym Boxers and Celebrity Charity Football Tournament, in aid of the Indee Rose Trust, at Concord Rangers FC, in Canvey Island, Essex on Sunday 14th August 2011.

Rendall shot to fame in 2008 following his sensational, against the odds, victory over then European champion Spaniard Kiko Martinez. Rendall defended his European crown six times, as well as added the Commonwealth title to his collection in May 2009.

In October 2010 Rendall vacated his Commonwealth and European titles and traveled to Tokyo Japan to challenge WBC World Champion Toshiaki Nishioka for his crown. After twelve sensation rounds Nishioka retained his title for the sixth time.

Rendall felt that he had learned from the experience, of fighting on the World stage, and went straight on the Championship trail. On the 16th April this year Rendall added the WBA International belt to his collection with a sensational, unanimous points, victory over Belarus’ Andrei Isaeu.

The next big date on Rendall’s calendar is Sunday 14th August, when he will play in the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym Boxers and Celebrity Charity Football Tournament in Canvey Island, as he explained earlier by phone, “As soon as I heard on Ringside that Johnny was putting on the event I knew that I wanted to get involved and help raise some money for the Indee Rose Trust.

I’m just an average guy, besides boxing I enjoy playing football, so it really appealed to me.

It’ll be a great fun day out for everyone, I’m well up for it and it’s a good cause we’ll be playing for.”

On August 14th Rendall will be joining Johnny, and boxing stars Nathan Cleverly, Matthew Macklin, Kevin Mitchell, Ricky Burns, Barry McGuigan, Paul and Stephen Smith, Willie Limond, Tony Oakey, Ross Minter, Martin Power etc.; will be joined by celebrities such as Alex Reid (MMA), Johnny Borrell (Razorlight), Mark Wingett (Jim Carver – The Bill), Stephen Bell (Coronation Street), various of the Eastenders and Shameless cast etc. at the Concord Rangers FC ground on Canvey Island.

The TRAD TKO Boxing Gym promoted Boxers and Celebrity Football Tournament, in aid of the Indee Rose Trust, kicks off at 12:00pm at the Concord Rangers FC, Thames Road, Canvey Island, Essex on Sunday 14th August 2011.

Tickets for this special event, priced: Standard: £10.00 and V.I.P. £20.00, are available on-line from www.tkoboxoffice.com or in person from the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym, Gillian House, Stephenson Street, Canning Town, London E16 4SA

Children’s tickets, priced £5.00, will be available on the day.

Daniel Herdman Says “It’s The Opportunity Of A Lifetime” After Prizefighter Call Up

Posted on | August 2, 2011 | No Comments

Stevenage’s Daniel Herdman will be one of the competitors taking part in the Matchroom Sport promoted Prizefighter tournament, when the top rated series returns for the new season on the 15th September with Prizefighter – Light Middleweight II.

Daniel, who as an amateur won a Junior ABA title and Olympic Junior silver medal as well as earned regular England international honours, has had a torrid time since turning pro in 2007.

Losing his first pro bout, against Latvian Gatis Skuja, Daniel then strung a run of three excellent wins, over Ben Hudson, Duncan Cottier and Russell Pearce, in 2008, before a broken hand forced him to take a two year sabbatical from the sport.

Early in 2010 Daniel returned to training, with Johnny Eames at the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, but it would take close to six months before he finally returned to the fray and secured his fourth win, with a scintillating performance over tough battler Ryan Clark at York Hall in December last year.

Earlier today Daniel spoke briefly about his selection to take part in the upcoming Prizefighter – Light Middleweight II, “I’m over the moon, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime being invited to be in Prizefighter. I think it’s a great opportunity for young people like myself to get on the rankings.

I think I should do really well as the Prizefighter format should suit me and my boxing style. Three rounds will suit me right down to the ground as I like to get inside and really fight, don’t really like to stand off so it’ll be really exciting for the fans to watch.

As I said being in Prizefighter is a great opportunity, If you win it you’re straight in for a title shot, probably a Southern Area but maybe even a British title. It gets you right in the mix, it’s a great opportunity.”

Daniel joins former two weight champion Takaloo, Big Brother star JJ Bird, Steve Harkin and three unbeaten fighters, Peter Vaughan, Wayne Goddard and Kris Agyei-Dua in the season opening Prizefighter – Light Middleweight II on Thursday 15th September.

Tickets, priced £35 unreserved, £60 ringside and £100 VIP, for Prizefighter Light Middleweights II at York Hall, Bethnal Green in East London on Thursday 15th September 2011 are available on-line at www.tkoboxoffice.com or in person at the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym, Gillian House, Stephenson Street, Canning Town, London E16 4SA.
