WBA & IBA World Light Heavyweight Champion Beibut Shumenov: Driven To Excellence
Posted on | July 25, 2011 | No Comments
Headlines TeleFutura’s ‘Sólo Boxeo Tecate’ telecast Friday live from South Point Hotel Casino
LAS VEGAS (July 25, 2011) – Professional boxing’s most driven world champion is World Boxing Association (“WBA”) and International Boxing Association (“IBA”)light heavyweight king, Beibut Shumenov, who takes the next step on his mercurial rise in the sweet science Friday night (July 29), headlining “Fire & Fury” against two-time world title challenger Danny “The Bronx Bomber” Santiago, on TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” broadcast live from South Point Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“What really drives Beibut is to be better in every single fight,” commented Shumenov’s head trainer, 1984 Olympic Silver Medalist Kevin Barry. “He sets very high standards and goals. You can’t tell Beibut he can’t do something; he’ll do it, just to make a point, and what he has already accomplished in boxing is unprecedented.
“Beibut has the fan-friendly style to become a major star in boxing. Beibut is a tremendous athlete who would have been a star in any professional sport he chose. In my 25 years in boxing, I have never seen anybody as driven as Beibut.”
“Fire& Fury” is promoted by KZ Event Productions (Shumenov and his brother, Chingis, own and operate the Las Vegas-based KZ Event Productions) in association with Golden Boy Promotions, Don Chargin Productions, Guilty Boxing and South Point Hotel Casino and is sponsored by Cerveza Tecate and AT&T. Doors open at 5:30 PM PT, the first bout at 6:00 PM PT and the TeleFutura broadcast begins at 11:30 PM ET / PT (10:30 PM CT).
Tickets, starting at $25, are available for purchase at South Point’s box office, online atwww.SouthPointEventCenter.com/tickets.php, or by calling 1.702.797.8055.
Fans at home can also be part of the action by participating in Cinturón Tecate and voting for the fighter in the main event who displays the most character in the ring by sending a text message to 55333. Voting will be open through the end of the weekend.
Shumenov (11-1, 7 KOs), who lives and fights out of Las Vegas, first represented his native Kazakhstan in the 2004 Olympic Games. Then, he set a light heavyweight record for capturing a world title in the fewest career fights, 10, when (Jan. 10, 2010) he won a 12-round decision against Gabriel Campillo in Las Vegas. Now, he is driven to unify the world 175-pound division championships and eventually become the undisputed light heavyweight champion of the world.
In a pair of world title defenses, Shumenov won a unanimous 12-round decision versus No. 1 mandatory challenger and previously undefeated Viacheslav Uzelkov (UDEC12), followed by a six-round knockout of three-time world champion William Joppy (KO6).
In only 11 pro fights, Beibut has defeated four world champions (Campillo, Joppy, Byron Mitchell and Montell Griffin), as well as two world title challengers (Uzelkov and Epifanio Mendoza). “My brother chose a path in boxing unlike most fighters,” Chingis Shumenov explained. “He always challenged himself, instead of fighting easy opponents just to build-up his record. Beibut wanted to fight world champions, practically right from the very start of his pro career. His overall development is due to him learning from each fight because he’s fought so many experienced, quality opponents. He has greatly improved in a relatively short time and his ultimate goal is unifying all of the world titles at 175 pounds.”
Despite being on a journey to unify the light heavyweight titles, Shumenov remains fully focused on the task at hand, which is to successfully defend his WBA/IBA titles July 29 against WBA #15 ranked Santiago (31-4-1, 19 KOs), who was featured on the third season of The Contender reality television series.
An exciting co-feature pits popular Las Vegas super featherweight “Lightning” Lonnie Smith (13-2-2, 9 KOs) versusRobert “The King” Vargas (5-1-1, 0 KOs), is also scheduled to air on TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” broadcast.
Two other champion KZ Event Productions fighters, unbeatens WBA FEDALATIN Welterweight Champion Ravshan Hudaynazarov and WBA International Light Heavyweight titlist Gayrat Ahmedov, will also be in action.
WBA # 9 rated Hudaynazarov (14-0, 12 KOs) defends his title against former USNBC titlist Hector “The Hurricane”Munoz (19-5-1, 12 KOs) in a 10-round belt, while WBA #2 Ahmedov (16-0-1, 12 KOs) takes on veteran Billy Bailey(11-11, 4 KOs) in an eight-round match.
Las Vegas fan favorite Ramon Montano(17-9-2, 2 KOs) faces welterweight Juan Suazo (7-4-3, 5 KOs) in a six-round match. Also on the card against an opponent to be determined is Freddie Roach-trained, unbeaten super featherweight prospect Joel Diaz(4-0, 3 KOs), as well as undefeated Russian cruiserweight Medzhid Bektemirov(5-0, 5 KOs) versus Chad Davis (3-8), in a four-round bouts. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

MMA FIGHT PIT: “GENESIS” TO BE BROADCAST LIVE ON PAY PER VIEW
Posted on | July 25, 2011 | No Comments
Albuquerque, New Mexico (USA): MMA Fight Pit’s highly-anticipated debut event on Saturday, August 13th, “MMA FIGHT PIT: GENESIS,” will be offered to fight fans via Pay-Per-View, as was announced today by Fight Pit Co-Owner/Founder Torry Crooks. The fight card is stacked with UFC® and WEC® veterans, and is set to take place at “The Pit,” a world-renowned New Mexico sporting venue that has put on fights with top boxers such as Bob Foster and Johnny Tapia. The MMA showdown will be distributed live on Pay-Per-View beginning at 9 PM EST/6 PM PST by MultiVision Media, Inc. The suggested retail price is $29.95.
The “MMA FIGHT PIT: GENESIS” PPV broadcast will feature six electrifying bouts, including a highly-anticipated light heavyweight war between former UFC® competitors Houston “The Assassin” Alexander and “Razor” Razak Al-Hassan. In the co-feature, MMA pioneer and former UFC® Lightweight Champion Jens “Lil’ Evil” Pulver tangles with Jackson’s MMA star Coty “Ox” Wheeler at featherweight.
Four other exciting bouts will also be featured on the PPV-broadcast, including a lightweight battle between The Ultimate Fighter®(TUF®) season eight alum Junie “Lunatik” Browning and Albuquerque native Lenny Lovato; a middleweight clash between TUF®season 11 competitor Jamie Yager and undefeated Jackson MMA product “Slick” Willie Parks; and a heavyweight collision between 14-year MMA veteran Chris Guillen and knockout machine Tyler “The Beast” East. In addition, an exciting women’s bout between Angelica Diaz and Diana Rael will take place on the PPV portion of the card.
“MMA FIGHT PIT: GENESIS” will take place Saturday, August 13th at “The Pit” in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The undercard starts at 6:30 PM EST, and the main card starts at 9 PM EST. Ticket information is available through www.mmafightpit.com. “MMA FIGHT PIT: GENESIS” will be beamed on PPV via cable and satellite in the United States and Canada. The event will be in High Definition, and it will be broadcasted in both English and Spanish (where available).
MMA Fight Pit is recognized as one of the premiere mixed martial arts (MMA) promoters in the Western United States. “We’re excited to be the first MMA promotion to be given the honor of holding our event at ‘The Pit,’” stated Crooks. “Albuquerque is world-famous for MMA, and on August 13th, we’ll see this town and ‘The Pit’ in an uproar. Catching the excitement live and broadcasting it to the world on Pay-Per-View is going to be a monumental event.”
“Thanks to the embracement of our broadcast partners, we are very excited to bring this inaugural MMA event to over 80 million households via cable and satellite,” stated Executive Producer, Brian Ricco. “We plan to blaze the same trail as our predecessors through marketing and our partners’ aggressive placement of this awesome event.”
Houston “The Assassin” Alexander (12-6–2) made a massive splash on the national MMA scene in his first UFC® bout, as he dispatched Jackson’s MMA fighter Keith Jardine in under at minute for a signature win at UFC® 71. He quickly garnered a reputation for his “kill or be killed” mentality in the cage, and garnered a lot of fans and media attention as a result. After a rough stretch that saw him released from the promotion, Alexander has rebounded, winning his last three bouts, with two coming via TKO. At “MMA FIGHT PIT: Genesis,” he will face a fellow UFC® vet in “Razor” Razak Al-Hassan (11-3). A submission specialist and Roufusport fighter, Al-Hassan has competed in the UFC® twice, and is looking to come back from a recent loss that snapped a five-fight win streak.
Jens “Lil’ Evil” Pulver (24-15-1) is a bona fide legend in MMA, and is a pioneer amongst the lighter weight classes. His battles with the likes of Joe “Daddy” Stevenson, Din Thomas, John Lewis, Caol Uno, Dennis “Superman” Hallman, and B.J. Penn, who he beat for the UFC® lightweight strap, helped put the lightweight class on the map. With 19 combined appearances in the UFC®, WEC®, and PRIDE, “Lil’ Evil” has secured his place as one of the most popular lightweight fighters of all time. He’s gone through a rough stretch in recent years, but has won two of his last three bouts, and is looking to continue his winning ways against New Mexico favorite Coty “Ox” Wheeler (14-3). Another veteran of WEC®, Wheeler has finished 13 of his 14 victims, and has only been stopped once in his career. After two losses in the WEC®, Wheeler has come back to win two straight bouts. At “Genesis,” he will look to get the biggest win of his career in his tilt with a legend.
Also populating the PPV main card of “MMA FIGHT PIT: GENESIS,” will be several other notable fights, including a bout between a veteran of TUF®, the always controversial Junie “Lunatik” Browning (4-4), and one of the top-ranked fighters in New Mexico, Lenny Lovato (8-1). Browning has developed a reputation as a wild card, and as someone whose actions you can just never predict. His time on The Ultimate Fighter® was marked by zany actions that drew the young fighter a lot of attention. After the show, he split two bouts in the UFC® before being released due to his actions outside of the cage. “Lunatik” will now face a very stiff test in Lovato. The Albuquerque native hasn’t competed in the last year, but has won eight of nine bouts to start his career. Now, Lovato will look to add a very famous notch to his belt at “MMA FIGHT PIT: GENESIS.”
Also part of the televised main card will be a middleweight bout between another notorious TUF® alum in Jamie Yager (3-2) and unbeaten Jackson’s MMA fighter “Slick” Willie Parks (4-0), as well as a heavyweight scrap between noted finisher Tyler “The Beast” East (9-3) and Chris Guillen (13-12), a fighter who has been competing in MMA since 1997, and has faced notables such as Heath Herring, Shane Carwin, Wes Sims, Ricco Rodriguez, Justin Wren, Brad Imes, Dave Herman, and Ben Rothwell. Rounding out the televised card is the beautiful and dangerous Angelica Diaz (4-0 with four submissions), a respected specialist in Kajukenbo who trains out of the famed Chavez Dojo in the South Valley, who will be facing Colorado Muay Thai specialist Diana Rael (2-1).

IBF CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPION STEVE “USS” CUNNINGHAM & NUMBER-ONE RANKED WELTERWEIGHT MIKE JONES SIGN ENDORSEMENT DEALS WITH COV GLOVE
Posted on | July 25, 2011 | No Comments
TWO OF PHILLY’S FINEST SIGN WITH COV GLOVE PLUS COV GLOVE IS NOW USA BOXING CERTIFIED
PHILADELPHIA (July 25, 2011)—Boxing’s latest innovation, Cov Glove has signed IBF Cruiserweight champion, Steve “USS” Cunningham and number-one ranked Welterweight Mike Jones to endorse the product.
Cov Glove has all been certified by USA Boxing and the product was worn by all competitors in the just completed United States National Championship tournament
“I am ecstatic to have these two tremendous fighters as the first two guys who endorse the Cov Glove”, said Cov Glove founder David Price.
“Steve and Mike’s record’s speak for themselves and to have them represent the Cov Glove shows our commitment and I can’t think of two better fighters and men to be a part of our team”
“This is a great product and I feel that all commissions should approve it”, said Cunningham
“I been using it for a few years now and I have never had a problem with it and I love that I know that the action will never be stopped due to tape coming loose. I am happy to endorse Cov Glove and hopefully more fighters will see the value in wearing the product”
Cunningham, 24-2 with twelve knockouts is a two-time IBF Cruiserweight champion who is known for taking on anyone, anywhere at any time as evidenced by him fighting, winning and defending his world title all over the planet.
Jones is one of the hottest fighters in the world as he is perfect in his twenty-five bouts with nineteen knockouts. He has appeared on major Pay Per View shows and on HBO by beating Jesus Soto Karass. On June 25th he stopped Raul Munoz in two rounds in Philadelphia
“Since I was introduced to Cov Glove, I was a believer in it. It gives me the confidence that I know that my tape will never come loose. It’s definitely a product that all fighters should wear. Whenever I fight, the Cov Glove will be with me as it defiantly goes hand and glove”, said the undefeated Jones.
As pertaining to Cov Glove being USA Boxing certified, the founder believes that it is a prelude to being a worldwide product on all levels.
“I am very happy that we received the certification by USA Boxing. It’s an opportunity for the young men in the amateurs to get used to the Cov Glove and they will feel comfortable with the Cov Glove as they embark on their pro careers. I know that some of the decision makers in boxing will also be able to see the benefits of the Cov Glove. I think that success Cov Glove had at the Nationals shows that fighters should be able to wear it in major tournaments and world title bouts all over the world”
The Cov Glove is a leather sleeve that covers the tape around the wrist. The Cov Glove protects the fighter from having his tape come loose as well as protecting his opponent from Tape scraping against his head and eyes.
