CROSSFIRE MEDIA GROUP TO HANDLE PUBLIC RELATIONS FOR STRIKEFORCE WELTERWEIGHT TYRON WOODLEY
Posted on | January 31, 2012 | No Comments
San Jose, California (USA): Phil Lanides, Owner/Publicist of Crossfire Media Group (CMG), today revealed that his company has reached an agreement with Strikeforce welterweight star Tyron “T-Wood” Woodley to become his public relations representative. The undefeated Woodley has cemented himself as a star on the rise in Strikeforce’s 170-pound division, and is poised to fight for their vacant belt in the near future.
CMG will provide PR and media relations services for “T-Wood,” and in the process help continue to build his brand and that of his gym, ATT Evolution, in St. Louis, Missouri. Lanides will now handle all media inquests for Woodley.
“Tyron is, without a doubt, right on the cusp of reaching true elite status in the welterweight division,” said Lanides. “I’m extremely excited to join up with him at this point in his career, as I truly believe that his skills are already there. It’s just a matter of building up his brand, and I am committed to doing my part to bring that to fruition.”
“I worked with Phil on the launch of my gym, and he did an exemplary job,” stated Woodley. “He’s passionate, and working together, I believe that we’re going to be able to build each other up even further.”
“T-Wood” is one of the top competitors in Strikeforce’s 170-pound division. Making the transition from prospect to legitimate threat in 2011, the two-time Division I All-American in wrestling bested both Tarec Saffidiene and Paul “Semtex” Daley. He kicked off 2012 with a decision victory over Jordan Mein on January 7th in Las Vegas at “Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine.” Now unbeaten at 10-0 with six finishes, the 29 year-old is in position to compete for the vacant Strikeforce welterweight belt next.
In late 2011, Woodley opened up American Top Team Evolution in St. Louis. A long-time member of ATT, “T-Wood” is focused on making his new gym the preeminent training center in St. Louis. A devoted husband and father, he also dreams of one day opening up a non-profit center to help troubled children and teens.
Woodley joins the CMG stable of clients, which also includes Canadian fight promotion Aggression MMA, former world champion pro wrestler Diamond Dallas Page’s workout brand, DDPYOGA, Bay Area-based combat sports promotion Elite Combat Sports, top MMA fight team Roufusport, and top combat sports broadcaster Mauro Ranallo.

McKee and Cobb officially released from MFC, Haddad also cut for missing weight
Posted on | January 31, 2012 | No Comments
MFC Staff
The Maximum Fighting Championship has released Antonio McKee, Brian Cobb, and James Haddad from their contracts with the organization.
McKee and Cobb were both slated to compete for the MFC lightweight title at MFC 32: Bitter Rivals on Jan. 27, but both fighters came in over the contract weight at the official weigh-in – defending champ McKee by seven pounds and challenger Cobb by one-half pound.
“I was thoroughly disgusted by the lack of professionalism that Antonio McKee showed towards the belt he was scheduled to defend as well as the Maximum Fighting Championship as a organization,” said MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich.
“It was unacceptable behavior for a champion to demonstrate. On top of that, Antonio never really apologized for missing weight that badly. That was the end of things for him with the MFC. That’s why he was stripped of his belt immediately and told that he would never fight in the MFC again. I hope it’s a message to all the other fighters in the MFC.”
Cobb, who was coming off a win over Drew Fickett at MFC 30, lost a narrow decision to McKee at MFC 32.
“It’s disappointing to have to release Brian as he is a tremendous character person,” added Pavelich. “Everyone in the MFC has a great deal of respect and admiration for Brian, but unfortunately he admitted to making an error in preparing for the weigh-in and was over the limit. For a title fight that is a big mistake.”
Haddad, who lost via decision to Dan Ring at MFC 32, was over by two pounds for his lightweight bout.

UNDEFEATED FEATHERWEIGHT JERRY “THE CORPUS CHRISTI KID” BELMONTES NOW A PROMOTIONAL FREE AGENT
Posted on | January 31, 2012 | No Comments
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (JANUARY 31, 2012)–15-0(5KO’s) Featherweight Jerry Belmontes is now a promotional Free Agent. Belmontes, of Corpus Christie, Texas, gained his freedom from Marines Promotions after an ugly one -year year dispute between promoter Julio Marines and manager Adrian Clark which left Jerry out of the ring for nine months.
Clark and Belmontes both are overjoyed with the release but realize that the free agent process will be difficult and stressful. “The year dispute with Marines Promotions was tough but I imagine the free agency process will be more difficult than what we endured with Julio” said Clark.
I’ll work to get Jerry a deal that makes the most sense down the road” Clark said. A two-plus year age gap separates the two but Belmontes at 22 believes in Clark, 25 and his ability to get things done.
“He stuck by me the whole way thru:, Said Belmontes.
Even when things looked really bad he continued to work and eventually got me free. As happy as I am, I’m just ready to fight”
Belmontes has wins over the likes of Tommy Atencio (4-1) and Gil Garcia (2-0) and is coming off a six round unanimous decision over Justo Vallecillo last June 24th.
The two will put their heads together and look to sign with a promotional company soon.

JOHN RYDER SIGNS WITH LONSDALE
Posted on | January 31, 2012 | No Comments
Hotly tipped Middleweight joins boxing brand after extending unbeaten record
John Ryder has signed a sponsorship deal with Lonsdale as he continues to take the British Middleweight scene by storm.
The deal will see the unbeaten Islington man wearing the apparel of the boxing clothing giant as well as donning their gloves in future contests.
The 23 year-old continued his impressive start to his professional career with a second round stoppage of Mariusz Biskupski at York Hall on Saturday night (January 28) taking his record to 9-0 with six wins inside the distance.
Ryder’s first outing in his new gear will be on the undercard of the Kell Brook’s Welterweight showdown with Matthew Hatton at the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield on March 17, live on Sky Sports.
“I’m absolutely delighted,” said Ryder. “I have always enjoyed wearing their gear in the gym and to be able to sign with such a great boxing brand is a dream for me. I hope I can keep my record going and as always will be taking it one fight at the time.”
“John Ryder is without doubt one of Britain’s most exciting young prospects and I’m pleased that Lonsdale have seen our vision and signed him to their team,” said Ryder’s promoter Eddie Hearn. “It’s important for any young fighter to feel and look the part and I know John is delighted to be associated with the brand.”
“I’m delighted to welcome John to the Lonsdale team,” said Sunny Singh, Lonsdale’s Head of Sports Marketing. “He has shown tremendous potential in the early part of his career and we look forward to growing with him and working alongside Matchroom Sport to help fulfil his potential and become a champion.”
