BAS RUTTEN IN THE NEW GRAND THEFT AUTO IV VIDEO GAME
Posted on | April 29, 2008 | 2 Comments

[mpinpage]
Not only am an MMA junkie but a video game afficianado as well. So I was at the midnight release picking up my Grand Theft Auto IV game for the XBOX 360 last night. I have a PS3 but decided to go with the 360 version for the achievements. I got the collector’s edition which came with a GTA IV duffle bag, metal lock box, Rockstar key chain, art book and a GTA IV music cd.
So I get home pop in my new game like a kid on Christmas morning. One of the first things you do in Grand Theft Auto games is you go to your home, hideout, apartment, safe house, or whatever you want to call it. But this is your home base to start out. You can sleep, eat, store weapons, and change clothes there. And you have a TV. So I’m sitting there in my new pad so I turn on the TV, flip through a few channels and low and behold I hear a very familiar voice coming out of this bald-headed figure on the tube.
It’s a show called Bas and Jeremy. It even uses his real name, “Bas Rutten”. The show is a type of “Man Show” where they show you different self-defense techniques, relationship advice, and other manly stuff. The character modeled on Bas looks great. Basically it looks like a younger, little bit beefier Bas Rutten. But let me tell you, this is some of the funniest stuff I have ever seen in my life. Bas is in rare form. It’s like Bas Rutten on cocaine and steroids times ten. I wish I could convey to you just how hilarious Bas is on here. He’s very animated, very aggressive, very over-the-top, and very violently descriptive in his self-defense techniques.
His co-host on this show is a timid sensitive type of guy and Bas will hardly let him get a word in. Bas uses him to show you how to stab people in the eye with pencil and other self-defense techniques. I was supposed to be playing this great new video game that I had been waiting all year for, but when I saw Bas Rutten on my in-game TV and how funny it was I had to sit there and watch the whole show just like it was real life. It’s a very surrealistic experience to be playing a character in a video game and sitting down with that character and watching an entire TV program within that game just like it was real life. It’s especially surrealistic when you’re watching a TV program starring one of your all-time favorite MMA fighters.
What makes it really cool is that anytime I want to watch the show I can go back into my safe house and watch Bas again. I’m not sure yet if they have different episodes. I can only hope. It’s little details like that which make this game truly incredible. I played the game for a couple of hours last night and so far it’s definitely the best GTA experience to date. The attention to detail and perfection in the game is astounding.
Liberty City is more realistic and better than ever as a real life metropolis. And also you get online play this time with Grand Theft Auto IV; now only if I can get Bas Rutten to be on my XBOX Live friends’ list and actually get to play with Bas in Grand Theft Auto, my life will be fulfilled! Get this game, kick back in your new pad, and watch some Bas Rutten self-defense techniques! You’ll be a better man(or woman) for it!
This video will give you a great idea of what Bas Rutten’s character in Grand Theft Auto IV is like. Imagine Bas’s personality in this video times ten and you’ll get a good idea of what he’s like in the game:

Spratt wins big over the weekend

Pete SECRET WEAPON Spratt headed to the nation’s capitol this past weekend to face TUF/UFC vet Jason Von Flue in the main event of the Ultimate Warrior Challenge: INVASION promotion.

Special to The Washington Post

Instead of gripping Pete Spratt’s left leg on his single-leg takedown attempt, Jason Von Flue stumbled face-first into Spratt’s step-back right-handed uppercut knockout blow, which folded Von Flue 1 minute 10 seconds into the main event of Ultimate Warrior Challenge-INVASION — last night’s nine-card Mixed Martial Arts cage-style event at George Mason University’s Patriot Center.
“On a couple of his shot attempts, he was ducking under my punches,” said Spratt, a 5-foot-9 169-pounder, who bounced back after a controversial loss to Ryan Ford. “I thought the next time he shoots, I’m going to throw low and that’s what I did. I caught him on the throat and stopped the blood-flow to the brain.”
Spratt (20-11) dominated the fight from the start, taking control on a few erratic right hooks during an early flurry. He followed a left roundhouse kick with several devastating body shots that sent Von Flue (12-9-1) back-pedaling and to the hexagon’s canvas three times within the first three minutes.
“I saw the fear and smelled blood and went for the finish,” Spratt said.
The event, promoted as the biggest ever MMA event here, drew 4,828 fans and featured a mix of top fighters from organizations such as UFC, Pride, IFL and Bodog as well as locals from the region’s top gyms.

Palace Fighting Championship
PFC 7.5 Results
Saturday, April 26
At Eagle Mountain Casino, Porterville CA
Aldaco moves into PFC title tilt
PORTERVILLE — It’ll take nearly a year and a half, but Morris Aldaco will finally get his chance at Palace Fighting Championship gold.
The Porterville mixed martial artist stamped his date on a July 17th showdown for the PFC World Welterweight title against Bakersfield’s Bryan Travers (10-1) by defeating Hanford’s Chris Botelho (3-3) by unanimous decision on Saturday, April 26th at PFC 7.5 “New Blood” at Eagle Mountain Casino in Porterville.
“Chris was a pretty tough dude,” said Aldaco. “He was a lot stronger than I thought that he was going to be. I give him a lot of respect.”
Although there was much trash talk entering the bout, the pair turned in a stellar fight worthy of respect from both sides.
Aldaco (6-0) was pushed to a decision for the first time in his career, but he utilized what got him the previous five victories — wrestling and heavy punches.
“We had a good three weeks of training camp at Samurai Dojo and at the Garage,” Aldaco said. “But with all excuses aside, it was just a tough fight. Like I said Chris was a very tough fighter.”
Both overcame a lot during the fight, as each withstood damage in the first round — Botelho a cut over his left eye and Aldaco a huge contusion under his left eye.
“I’m extremely proud of our staff and thankful to the fighters and managers who came together on less than two days notice to make PFC 7.5 the biggest night of mixed martial arts to ever hit Eagle Mountain Casino,” PFC President Christian Printup said. “I want to express my extreme gratitude to the Tule River tribe for their confidence in me and the PFC to deliver exciting high level MMA action to the great fans they have there. Not just as a promoter, but as a professional Native American it is very gratifying to be able to work with the Tule tribe and the staff at Eagle Mountain Casino.”
Also in a featured bout, former PFC World Lightweight champ Poppies Martinez (15-4) of Lemoore defeated Merced’s Jarod Saenz (0-5) by guillotine choke in just 31 seconds of the first round.
“This guy really wasn’t at my level, but I wanted to take this fight to show people I’m coming back,” Martinez said. “I train with some of the best fighters in the world. I think I’m one of the best fighters in the world. I wanted to come out and fight for the Tule River tribe and for my tribe.”
After a brief flurry of punches, Martinez sunk the choke and quickly ended the fight.
Atlanta’s Diego Saraiva (11-6-1) took Martinez’ belt in January. Saraiva is scheduled to defend his title for the first time on May 8th at PFC 8 at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore against Bakersfield’s Brian Cobb (11-4).
Meanwhile, Martinez takes on Huron’s Sergio Cortez (3-3).
“I have another fight at home in Lemoore in May and then hopefully I can get my rematch with Diego,” Martinez said. “Diego was the much better fighter that night, but I’m on the comeback. I will bring the belt back to my tribe.”
In one of the most entertaining fights of the night, heavyweight Manuel Quezada of Wasco improved his record to 2-0 by defeating Fresno’s Chayondray Johnson (0-2) in 1:17 of the first round.
Quezada was scheduled to fight in a boxing match before the card turned completely MMA. He is 22-4 as a pro boxer and is one of the favorites on the Palace boxing events.
“I thought that it went too quick,” Quezada said. “I was preparing for a 10-round boxing match, so I was in good shape. The good thing about it, though, was that I got to again work on my kicks and some of my other techniques.”
Quezada is quickly turning into one of the top heavyweight prospects in the PFC.
“I want to keep fighting for as long as the PFC and Christian Printup will allow me to,” Quezada said. “I love the sport and I love being able to use my kicks. I just love to fight.”
In other action;
— Lemoore welterweight Joey Cabezas (1-0) knocked out Oakdale’s Moses Lira (0-1) in 6 seconds of the first round.
Cabezas’ KO was one second off the PFC record, which is held by Arroyo Grande light heavyweight Glover Teixeira (6-2). Teixeira posted a faster knockout, flooring Brazil’s Jorge Oliveira (3-2-1) at PFC 6 in January in just five seconds. At PFC 3 in June of 2007, Visalia’s Mike Cook knocked out Rolando Torres in 12 seconds.
— Sacramento featherweight Tito Jones (4-1) turned in one of the highlight performances of the night, knocking out Bakersfield’s Fernando Arreola (3-5-1) in 31 seconds of the first round.
Jones landed a head kick, dropping the veteran Arreola to the canvas to end the fight.
—Lemoore lightweight Sergio Quinones (3-1) submitted Oakland’s Albert Tisdale in 2:07 of the first round.
— Porterville heavyweight George Albanez (1-2) submitted Porterville’s Tony Vera (4-5) in 2:21 of the first round.
— Stockton welterweight Rico Altamirano (3-1) beat Sacramento’s Anthony Bivins (2-2) by unanimous decision.
— Los Angeles super heavyweight Sal Farnetti (1-0) won by technical knockout over Palmdale’s Zane Johnson (0-1) in 23 seconds of the first round.
— Oakdale lightweight Bill Theofonopolos (2-0) submitted Bakersfield’s Juan Lopez (1-3) in 29 seconds of the first round.
— Exeter lightweight Joe Morales (2-0) defeated Merced’s Andy Salazar (0-4) by unanimous decision.
— Bakersfield lightweight Chuck Kim (6-6) submitted Stockton’s Brandon Jinnies (3-8) in 1:38 of the second round.
— Merced flyweight Anthony Perales (1-0) beat Oakdale’s Martin Sandoval (0-1) by technical knockout in 1:15 of the second round.
— Porterville heavyweight Dale Redday (1-0) submitted Lindsay’s Alex Delreal (0-1) in 38 seconds of the first round.
On Thursday May 8th the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino will host PFC 8 “A night of Champions”, as four PFC World Titles are up for grabs.
Tickets can be purchased at tickets.com or charge by phone at 1-800-225-2277. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and fights start at 6:30.

HOLLI HEARNE’S NO LIMIT FIGHTING “REDEMPTION” POST-FIGHT REPORT AND EDWIN DEWEES INTERVIEW

Dewees Takes HW Belt at No Limit’s Redemption in Houston
By: Holli Yargo Hearne
Photography: Joseph Martin
Saturday night was all right for fighting at the Arena Theater in Houston, TX. No Limit Fighting brought the action with their Redemption card featuring a main event with Heavyweight champion Richard Blake defending his belt against UFC veteran and Lion’s Den AZ fighter Edwin “Bam Bam” Dewees.
The battles began with Eric Jacob taking on C.J. Albrecht. Unfortunately, for Albrecht, it was not his night to shine. Jacob, who lost his last No Limit fight, took the W about 4 minutes into the first round by TKO referee stoppage due to strikes.
Houston’s own Jose Santibanez defeated Lion’s Den AZ fighter Joe Vigil by TKO but the Den rallied when Jeff Newbrough took down Joe Crawford, blasting elbows for a TKO just 1:23 into the first round. The victory earned Newbrough the win and a hearty hug from a very proud Edwin Dewees.
The house was less than entertained when two very amateur and ridiculous-looking local rappers entered the cage and were immediately boo’d. One of the performers demanded the music be stopped and began a tirade of f-bombs at the unwelcoming crowd. Shannon Ritch, the fight announcer, wrestled the mics out of both young men’s hands, sending them on their way. Being a pro-fighter himself, the two did not put up much of a fight. As they left the cage, the crowd finally gave them the applause they had hoped for.
The first of two title fights pitted reigning middleweight champion Marcus Gaines against Cedric Marks. This was without doubt the most brutal of all the night’s fights. Marks opened the first round catching Gaines off guard with an unexpected spray of kicks and punches. Gaines was able to tie his opponent up in a clinch, punishing him with Muay Thai kicks, one finally landing audibly in Marks’ athletic cup. The referee missed the illegal strike, as Marks was able to complete the round before showing obvious signs of pain.
Gaines attempted a superman punch to start round two but missed. Marks managed to take down the champ despite a punishment of knees to his thighs. Gaines returned to his feet only to be brought down again with Marks on top in half-guard. By the end of the round, Marks was still showing evidence of groin pain, welcoming the short break.
Early in the three spot, Marks drops to his knees, wincing and holding his groin. The referee called a time-out, acknowledging another groin strike. The doctor on hand checked out the fighter, also taking a look at his badly bleeding nose. After determining Marks was OK to continue, the match resumed with Gaines delivering a head kick but getting rocked by a punch. Seeing Gaines hit the ground, Marks pounced with rapid-fire ground and pound but was stymied when Gaines escaped, throwing another very audible kick to the groin. As Marks lay on the floor, groaning in pain, Ritch knelt beside him to let him know the fight had been stopped and he had won by disqualification. Marks did not appear to even acknowledge the announcer’s presence.
As the official announcement was made, the crowd boo’d disrespectfully as the new champion was awarded his belt. Marks took the mic to inform the crowd he wasn’t happy with such a bittersweet win either and would welcome a rematch.
Houstonian vs. Houstonian took to the mat in the co-main event with welterweights Josh “The Assassin” Lee and Alex “The Superman” Cisne. While the last fight was the most brutal, this was easily one of the most exciting. Both men came out swinging for the fences with Cisne achieving the first takedown. The Superman quickly passed guard, setting up for a triangle choke, transitioning to an armbar. Lee escaped but couldn’t return to his feet. Cisne caught The Assassin in a solid kimura and was rewarded with a tap out. Cisne took the win by submission just 2:34 into the first round.
Last, but certainly not least, the night’s main event: Richard Blake defending his heavyweight title from Edwin Dewees. While the bout was short, it certainly delivered. Dewees softened his opponent with myriad leg kicks before getting the takedown. Blake reversed but left an arm open, giving Dewees an armbar. Blake stood up, slamming Dewees to the mat several times in an attempt to shake the Den fighter loose but Dewees rolled to his belly, sinking the submission deeper. Blake tapped just 1:27 into the first.
Dewees said later he expected to win but joked that the round went about 40 seconds longer than he had planned.
In addition to great fights, the house was also treated to guest appearances by UFC veterans Yves Edwards, a resident of The Woodlands, TX and Sam Hoger, who is running the Miletich Fighting Systems gym in Houston, TX.
