TITO ORTIZ TAKES ON HIS SECOND USO TOUR TO THE PERSIAN GULF

?Huntington Beach Bad Boy? Tito Ortiz to Embark on Second USO Entertainment Tour to Persian Gulf

ARLINGTON, Va. ? Mixed martial arts favorite Tito Ortiz and fellow fighter Justin McCully are gearing up for their second trip to the Persian Gulf to visit troops as part of a USO/Multi National Corps – Iraq entertainment tour. In July 2007, Ortiz and McCully took time out of their schedules to visit wounded service members being treated in Washington, DC, and Bethesda, MD. In true patriotism, they also visited thousands of service men and women stationed at Camp Liberty in Baghdad and surrounding military installations, bringing smiles and a much needed break from day-to-day operations.

Touched by their USO experiences overseas, the duo vowed to continue supporting U.S. troops, reuniting to demonstrate insider fighting techniques, shake hands with U.S. troops and chat with those stationed abroad. The pair will also express their heartfelt gratitude, sign autographs and pose for pictures.

?I look forward to returning to the Persian Gulf with the USO to visit our nation?s troops,? says Ortiz. ?The truth is, they give me more than I could ever give them. They secure our borders, sacrifice their lives and fight for our freedom, and I?ll do what little I can to say thanks.?

A native of Huntington Beach, CA, Ortiz is a legendary mixed martial arts fighter. A former Light-Heavyweight champion, he spent most of his career fighting for the Ultimate Fighting Competition organization. Admired for his showmanship and athleticism, Ortiz has headlined numerous pay-per-view championship events, appeared on the covers of countless magazines and been profiled in such publications as ?The New York Times? and ?Sports Illustrated,? among many others. His acting ability and charisma have also earned him roles in several films and TV series, including CBS? ?NUMB3RS? and his much anticipated appearance on NBC?s ?Celebrity Apprentice,? airing January 3, 2008 at 9 p.m.

Ultimate Fighting Championship newcomer, McCully, nicknamed ?The Insane 1,? is an accomplished fighter and holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Far from an overnight success, McCully made his mixed martial arts debut in 1997 in Tokyo.

Since 1941, the USO has brought quality entertainment to millions of U.S. military service members and their families. In 2006, hundreds of celebrities donated their time and talents to help the USO boost troop morale and bring a touch of home to the men and women serving our country.

AT&T, Inc. is the official telecommunications sponsor of USO entertainment tours. For a list of recent and upcoming USO tours, visit http://www.uso.org/whatwedo/entertainment/. To find out how to support the troops, visit www.uso.org.

GUNN RESPONDS TO PROSPECT OF ADAMEK FIGHT

Gunn Responds To Adamek Contract Offer!

For Immediate Release

Former IBA Cruiserweight king Bobby Gunn 18-3 (15 KO?s) has responded to what he calls an ?unreasonable? offer to fight Tomasz Adamek. Team Gunn had initially contacted Sauerland Events matchmaker Hagen Doering a few weeks back with hope for an IBO title fight against Adamek.

?Things appeared in place; Mr. Doering was very interested in making the fight. I was told he had two fight dates, one being December 29th and the other February 16th. Doering said he would contact me with more information including which date the fight was going to be made on?, said Gunn.

?I surprisingly was contacted by (American promoter and matchmaker) Russell Peltz. His tone of voice was totally different then Doering?s. I felt disrespected by how Peltz? came at me with a take it or leave it offer, especially when it was a joke amount of money to face a two time world champion and boxing warrior overseas. I don?t like dealing with third party people and with all due respect to Mr. Peltz, he just made it more complicated. Doering has my phone number and knows how to contact me so call me direct and well make this fight happen just be reasonable?!

ROBBIE LAWLER INJURY DERAILS SATURDAY ELITEXC EVENT

INJURED ROBBIE LAWLER?S TITLE DEFENSE
WITH KALA HOLOHE HOSE CANCELLED

Saturday?s Event In Honolulu To Be Rescheduled;
Hawaiian Accepts Offer To Fight Jan. 25 On ShoXC

LOS ANGELES (Dec. 11, 2007) ? This Saturday?s fight between EliteXC and ICON Sport middleweight champion Robbie Lawler and Kala Kolohe Hose was officially cancelled Monday. The announcement was made during a late afternoon press conference in Honolulu.

?We were all really looking forward to this event and to this fight because, style-wise, Lawler-Hose was going to be a great one,?? said EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw. ?Robbie is a great world champion, but, unfortunately, injuries can happen to athletes in all sports.

?I feel badly for the fighters and the fans in Hawaii, who are some of the best in the word. Once Lawler is healthy, we are going to begin working to make the fight happen.??

The world title match had to be called off after Lawler (robbielawler.proelite.com) completely tore his right bicep while doing wrestling drills last week.

?I heard something pop when I was doing a Muay Thai clinch,?? said Lawler, who flew in from St. Louis to attend the press conference.

?I thought it was a minor thing so I took it easy for a few days. I felt good enough to go bowling, but when I tried to swing the ball, I felt a horrible pain, like my arm had collapsed. It was definitely much worse than I thought.??

A doctor confirmed the injury, which will keep Lawler sidelined approximately six weeks.

?I want to apologize to everybody,?? Lawler said. ?I am deeply sorry for the fans and the media, the promoters, Patrick and T. Jay, but, most importantly Kala Kolohe. I also want to apologize to all the undercard fighters that sacrificed and trained hard but now have to wait for another opportunity.??

So, too, will Hose, after a second consecutive fight with Lawler fell through. Hose and Lawler were scheduled to clash in June but the event was postponed after Lawler suffered a shoulder injury.

Hose (kalakolohehose.proelite.com), who is known as ?The Hawaiian Rocky Balboa?? and trains in a garage, was more than disappointed on Monday.

?I?m heartbroken,?? he said. ?I trained so hard and gave up so much of myself for this chance to fight Lawler. To have two fights not happen is very hard on not only me, but my family and team. This was going to be my big shot. But, once again, it went out the window. But my time will come.??

Promoters fought intensely to salvage the show, but Hose was adamant that his next fight be against Lawler. Ultimately, however, Hose was offered a prominent spot on the ShoXC: Elite Challenger Series card Jan. 25, 2008, on SHOWTIME, which he accepted. Win or lose, he will remain the ICON No. 1 contender.

?We all feel just terrible about this, but ICON Sport is committed to giving its fans the best possible events,?? Thompson said. ?We really wanted this show to happen and tried hard to save it.

?But to meet our fans? high expectations and after speaking with Kala and Lawler, we reached a decision to delay the ?Fearless? world title matchup and undercard.

?A new date will be announced very soon.??

DIVICTORIA STOPS SHMOUEL

Posted on | December 10, 2007 | No Comments

SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST:
DIVICTORIA STOPS SHMOUEL IN SIXTH ROUND IN THE ?PHILLY FIGHT OF THE YEAR?

Philadelphia (December 7th, 2007)?In the final bout in Philadelphia for the 2007 year, Lenny DiVictoria stopped Elad Shmouel at 2:22 of round six of their scheduled six round brawl in what was undoubtedly the Fight Of The Year in the city of Brotherly Love at The Legendary Blue Horizon

Ironically it was Shmouel who had the the advantage early as he used solid body work in round one and then coupled the body assault with a follow up right hand to drop DiVictoria in the second round. DiVictoria was hurt but came back to regain his senses to batter and bloody Shmouel over the next two rounds.

By no means did DiVictoria have his way in those rounds as he and Shmouel stood no more then a few inches apart and bombed away with thudding body shots and vicious head blows that kept the near capacity crowd at the Blue on the edge of their seats.

While Shmouel received a nice ovation at the outset, when the fight turned in rounds three and four, it was loud chants of ?LENNY, LENNY LENNY? that urged DiVictoria on.

Shmouel came back to have a solid round five as he landed blistering combinations that started at the body and landed on the head. In round six, DiVictoria landed a body shot that sent Shmouel down to the canvas. Shmouel, bloodied from his nostril valiantly showed heart and determination by fighting back only to take one more body punch that sent him to all fours to the canvas and referee Shawn Clark waved the bout off at 2:22 of round six.

December 7, Hamburg, Germany:

Susianna Kentikian retained the WBA flyweight title and added the vacant WIBF belt to her collection with
a hardfought unanimous decision over Nadia Hokmi from France. It was scored 97-95, 96-94 and 97-94. Hokmi
protested but was overrun in the first half of the fight by the agressive champion. She did better in the
later rounds and had Kentikian in trouble in the last but it wasn?t enough.

British veteran Lee Swaby survived a first round knockdown and became the first to take hard punching
German Sebastian Kober the distance in 12 fights. After six it was scored 59-54 twice and 59-55 for Kober.

Argentinian jr welter Marcos Maidana, another hard puncher, had a lot of trouble with slippery Mexican
Manuel Garnica but finally knocked him out with a body shot in the eighth of a scheduled ten-rounder.

Sebastian Zbik retained the WBO I/C middleweight title with a unanimous decision over Brazilian Samir Dos
Santos Barbosa. It was scored 120-108 twice and 119-109. Zbik dominated but couldn?t hurt Barbosa, who
in turn was too small to have an impact on Zbik.

Jr light Vitali Tajbert outclassed brave Frenchman Youssef Djibaba and stopped him in the tenth and last
round with only nine seconds to go. Djibaba was under pressure but looked allright enough to be allowed to
go the full ten.

News: Luan Krasniqi and Aleksander Dimitrenko may clash in an internal Universum heavyweight eliminator
February 23 somewhere in Germany, writes the always well informed Bild Zeitung. -It?s not a done deal yet
but we are talking, said Universum boss Klaus Peter Kohl. If it comes off it will be for the vacant EBU title.

Next up for WBA middle champ Felix Sturm is a voluntary defence. Both Randy Griffin and mandatory
challenger Javier Castillejo will have to wait a little longer.

Cuban heavyweight prospect Odlanier Solis square off against South African veteran Francois Both December
23 in Halle / Saale. In the nominal headliner German heavy Steffen Kretschmann face Turhan Altunkaya for
the national interim title. Meanwhile, Arena have announced that Solis? compatriot, world ranked jr light Yuriorkis Gamboa, will train in Los Angeles with fitness coach Moritz Klatten. Klatten came to Arena from the David Haye camp and have done an exellent job this far. Just check Juan Carlos Gomez?s exellent stamina against Oliver McCall …

There?s been around 6000 tickets sold for EBU cruiser champ Vincenzo Cantatore?s defence against Dane Johny
Jensen December 14 at the Palalottamatic in Rome.

Dutch jr light Innocent Anyanwu have been inactive since June with every planned fight falling through
for reason or another. Innocent, 10-0-1, could get a spot on the undercard to Osei Bonsu – Faradji January
12 in Antwerp, Belgium.

George just “ordinary” in decision victory over Reid.

Posted on | December 10, 2007 | No Comments

Talented NJ fighter dominates, yet fails to impress.
By Mike Indri
Retired Boxers Foundation
December 7, 2008

The letdown was obvious. Fighting short notice replacement Thomas Reid would not present the same challenge, nor bring the same acclaim, as facing and beating former title contender Eric Harding; Shaun George’s originally scheduled opponent for last night’s ten round main event at the Robert Treat Hotel, in nearby Newark, NJ.

Earlier this week Harding bailed out of what would have been his first fight in over 18 months (since his 12 round UD loss to current WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson 06/02/2006). Harding claimed to have injured his thumb in training. Many, including George, felt the nearly thirty-five year-old fighter simply was not battle ready.

Nevertheless a fighter as talented and skilled as George can not allow himself not to perform at his best, especially while on a quest to prove to the boxing public that he is “the best light heavyweight in the world!”
From round one’s opening bell George quickly established himself the quicker, stronger and much more proficient boxer, peppering the veteran Jackson, TN native with his stinging jab. The only problem was that George never was able, or willing, to commit to a solid three minutes of aggression.

Fighting in spurts, George flashed moments of brilliance.

Unable to stay focused though, George was getting tagged with Reid’s telegraphic, looping punches. Now a loser in seven of his last nine fights, the journeyman Reid (35-20-1, 4 KO’s) always comes ready
to fight and realized his only hope was to catch his distracted foe. Not a big puncher, Reid has only been stopped four times during his fifty-six fight professional career and takes pride in his sturdy chin.

George’s body shots were taking their toll on his forty year old opponent, and if George had been a good son-in-law and listened to trainer Tommy Brooks’ golden advice of continuing his below-the-chin assault midway through the bout, George would not have had to wait for the judge’s decision and the overly large crowd would have left much happier?and much earlier!

Unleashing lethal combinations in round eight George had the beaten Reid tiring and now hurt. As Reid staggered into the ropes George was content to hold back. Reid, whose victory would be in hearing the final bell on his feet, held on and weathered the storm. Round nine brought more of the same as Reid shook his head and smiled as the bell sounded. Tenth and final round George relegated his offense to a safe jab and some too late bodywork.

While all three judges saw it a 100-90 shutout for George, Reid got his “moral victory” and did not hurt his reputation as a solid veteran who always is competitive and willing to fight.

George, who improved to 16-2-2 (7 KO’s), got the win but really lost another opportunity to show how truly good he really is. At the level, which the likable Wayne, NJ resident aspires to reach, simply winning the fight is not all that is required. A true champion looks to prove his greatness and thrives to shine with each fight.
Shaun George has all the tools, the talent and his trainer Tommy Brooks is one of the best in the business. There is no reason for him not to succeed.

The fight of the night was the six round jr. middleweight battle between Alex Perez, a local prospect fighting out of Newark, NJ and Cory Peterson, from Flint, Michigan. While Perez was winning the early rounds by out boxing his tough, game opponent, Peterson showed why he is called the “Mad Bomber” and began nailing Perez midway through the bout. With both eyes closing and a cut above his nose the gritty Peterson rallied late and won over the crowd – even though the three judges all came back with 58-56 scores for Perez, who narrowly escaped with his still unbeaten record, now at 9-0. Peterson slipped to 7-2. A great fight, where neither young boxer should have been tagged with the loss.

Also on the Donna Duva-Brooks promoted fightcard?.

Irvington’s John Watson made his pro debut a successful one with a unanimous four round decision win over Fitzgerald Johnson, from Philadelphia. When Watson abandoned his tentative ways, he controlled the action and hurt Johnson more than once. With Tommy Brooks in his corner, to go along with his solid defense and quick, heavy hands, Watson could become a solid super middleweight. All three judges scored the one-sided bout 40-36. Johnson, who gave his best Philly effort, slipped to 1-2

New York’s Jorge Diaz remained undefeated with a first round knockout against Puerto Rican Antonio Vera. The only shots Vera landed were the three or four low blows, which apparently had no affect on Diaz. The stronger Diaz did hurt the still winless Vera (0-3) though, as a body shot forced Vera to take a knee and watch referee Earl Morton count him out at the 1:35 mark. The talented Diaz improved to 2-0.

In the night’s opening bout, Big Scott Fairlamb wasted no time in thrilling his huge crowd of fans as he pounded an overwhelmed Dino Weingarten, now 1-2, and sent the short but stout fighter back to Knoxville, Tennessee after only 55 seconds of their scheduled four round heavyweight bout.

Fairlamb, fighting out of Butler, NJ stunned his game foe with a thudding left hand, which drove Weingarten to the canvas. To his credit the hurt fighter beat the count but referee Earl Morton wisely stopped the contest. “Wildman” Fairlamb, who returned to the ring after more than a four and a half year layoff (04/03/2003, 4 round decision win over Orion Sistrunk), improved to 5-0 with his impressive technical knockout victory.

It was nice to see the large crowd packed into the Robert Treat Hotel, in support of the Donna Duva-Brooks promoted club show. The fans also were treated to a night of superlative ring announcing by none other than Henry Hascup, the President of the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame.

Former middleweight challenger William “Bo” James, who defeated John “The Beast” Mugabi and went eleven rounds with Bernard Hopkins, and retired NJ Devil hockey star Ken Daneko were honored during the intermission.
The only sad note to an otherwise nice night of boxing was seeing Lou Duva taken by ambulance from the arena. The boxing icon was said to be in stable condition, but kept overnight as a precaution – our hearts go out to the beloved Lou Duva and all his family.

George, Perez Victorious In Newark NJ!

Posted on | December 7, 2007 | No Comments

In front of a live crowd at the Robert Treat Hotel, Light Heavyweight rising star Shaun George 16-2-2 (7 KO’s) of Brooklyn, New York earned an impressive unanimous decision victory over late replacement Thomas Reid 35-20-1 (13 KO’s) of Jackson, Tennessee. George impressed the crowd with his world class hand speed while landing many impressive body shots. Reid did land a few haymakers but was never able to hurt George. Reid was stunned on many occasions and was severely winded during the last few rounds. To Reid’s credit, he was never knocked down and showed why he has gone the distance with many top fighters, only being stopped four times in his 20 losses.

“I was upset I wasn’t able to finish him off but overall my performance I think my performance was ok. I was very excited to fight Eric Harding since he is a world class fighter and after hearing he pulled out, I was let down. This is nothing against Reid, he was a very tough veteran and I can see how he went the distance with good fighters in the past. I was training for a different type of fighter {being that Harding is a southpaw boxer} and did not get tapes of Reid until the day before the fight,” George said after his victory.

Newark Welterweight prospect Alex Perez improved to 9-0 (6 KO’s) following a close unanimous decision victory over game challenger Cory “The Mad Bomber” Peterson 7-2 (4 KO’s) of Bay City, Michigan. During the first round, Perez showed good versatility as he effectively boxed and landed some big shots to Petersons head. The Mad Bomber stormed back in the second landing some good body shots on Perez while pressuring him for most of the stanza.

Perez had an excellent round three where he staggered Peterson and started closing his left eye from an accumulation of punches. After a competitive fourth, Peterson had his best round in the fifth where he was again able to land some heavy blows to the body and head of Perez. Perez however prevented any chance of an upset by having an effective round six (As a major brawl erupted in the crowd) by jabbing and moving his way to a 58-56 victory on all three cards.

Bantamweight Jorge Diaz improved to 2-0 (2 KO’s) by making quick work of Antonio Vera 0-2 who will return home to Puerto Rico following a left hand to the body which put him down for the count only 1:35 into the fight.

John Watson won his pro debut in front of many fans that came from local Irvington, NJ to support him in defeating Fitzgerald Johnson 1-2. Watson, who was supremely conditioned exhibited good hand speed and was able to land many good shots on Johnson, who represented his home city of Philadelphia well in the loss by not going out easily. Scores were 40-36 on all three cards.

Scott Fairlamb 5-0 (2 KO’s) of Butler, New Jersey, returned from a 3 and a half year layoff to quickly stop Dino Weingarten. The southpaw Fairlamb came out attempting to box and the first meaningful punch he landed was a straight left hand which dropped Weingarten. Weingarten attempted to get up but quickly fell back down forcing referee Earl Morton to stop the fight only 55 seconds in.
