TROUBLE FOR CALIFORNIA STATE ATHLETIC COMMISSION OVER CANCELLED MMA EVENT

Posted on | October 1, 2007 | No Comments

New Era Fighting files $500-million claim against California State Athletic Commission

SANTA ANA, California (October 1, 2007) – New Era Fighting (NEF) has filed a state regulated claims form to the State of California, initiating a $500,000,000 lawsuit against the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC), individuals Armando Garcia (CSAC Executive Director) and Frank Munoz (CSAC Staff Services Analyst), as well as the State’s Department of Consumer Affairs, NEF president Ron Kort announced today.

The lawsuit is the result of the CSAC’s cease and desist order, issued only minutes prior to NEF’s much publicized scheduled tryouts July 19 in Montebello, which forced the cancellation of NEF’s tryouts. The CSAC claimed Kort wasn’t a licensed promoter despite having approved his application, awarding him a promoter’s license, and cashed his renewal check ($1000) for 2007 (copies available upon request).

NEF is in the process of launching possibly the largest suit in California history against the aforementioned parties for loss of revenues (past, present and future), film production, media exposure, credibility, television show, venue deposits, fighters and opportunity costs.

Kort believes the State is responsible, “due to a pattern and practice by the California State Athletic Commission of intentionally, willfully and viciously interfering with a licensed and approved event, which effected and injured New Era Fighting in the same or similar fashion as other mixed martial arts promoters, managers and fighters.”

“Many witnesses have come forth offering to testify about many purported illegal acts in mixed martial arts by the California State Athletic Commission,” Kort said. “The support I’ve received from so many others who have gotten screwed over by this commission has been overwhelming. I look forward to my day in court.”

NEF is a mixed martial arts fighting organization that combines the raw brutality of mixed martial arts with entertaining, sexy and dramatic themes. For more information about NEF call 714.973.3053/714.448.9999 or go on line to www.NewEraFighting.com.

RONNIE KERNER READY FOR NOVEMBER BATTLE

Ronnie “The Rottweiler” Kerner To Be Let Loose November 17th!

For Immediate Release

After a long wait and much speculation, Ronnie “The Rottweiler” Kerner is set to conquer the boxing world as the new “King of Four Rounders”. Kerner is set to be the co feature with his close friend Bobby Gunn Saturday, November 17th at the ABC Sports Complex in Springfield, Virginia. He will be fighting for the Inaugural WBE Four Round Special Heavyweight Championship Title. He may also be challenging for the NABC Four Round Special Title, with many more new four round special world titles to come.
The Rottweiler added “I might pick up some twelve round belts too, just for the hell of it. Put it in front of me and I am going to take it”!

Kerner compiled a very impressive record of 17-1-0 with 17 KO’s no draws, and one disqualification, on the pro unsanctioned smoker circuit. He was awarded the NYBSC {New York Boxing Smoker Circuit} Five Borough Championship Belt in a recent ceremony. Kerner is both relieved and excited after the long delays. “This is my time to shine”! “If you enjoyed Mike Tyson, you are going to love me” said the former underground champion.

Mike Tyson and Ronnie share the same brute strength and aggressive style of fighting. Both of these heavyweights are the same height and weight. Kerner then went on to say, “I’ve been approved to fight for a series of four round sanctioned belts, so all my fights will be for titles and defending them at the same time. I don’t intend to leave anything up to the judges! Every time I fight it’s for a strap. I don’t have time to start out where everyone else did. They’re giving me the opportunity based on what I’m capable of” said the supremely confident power puncher. “I’m gonna be like the new Butterbean. Boxing needs a new major personality in the sport”.

Kerner will be taking on veteran Billy Mitchem. Mitchem has fought the likes of Roy Jones Jr. and Mitch “Blood” Green. The Rottweiler said “It took Roy Jones Jr. a TKO in the second round with this guy and Mitch “Blood” Green a KO in the fourth”. Then the very secure Kerner went on saying, “I vow to the world, I’m going to drop him in the first! Way before Roy or Mitch did. This will prove that I can roll with the big names in the sport. Think about it, two of the biggest names took a few rounds to do it. But, Ronnie “The Rottweiler” Kerner did it quicker, in the first! Imagine that…..People will have to respect that”. Kerner is happy with his opponent’s experience and is hoping to impress. “This was the guy I want to fight. The reason I want to fight him is because it shows to people I am not your average fighter making his licensed debut. I’m already fighting a seasoned fighter and that’s why im facing a guy who has a lot of experience. I am a seasoned fighter as well and Mitchem is a legitimate opponent. I’m going to impress the world”!

ANDRE BERTO INTERVIEW

Interview With Andre Berto

By Matt Yanofsky

I had the pleasure of speaking with America’s number one prospect Andre Berto. Berto will be fighting tough veteran David Estrada this Saturday on HBO’s televised undercard of the Jermain Taylor Kelly Pavlik middleweight championship bout.

Yanofsky: Whats going on Andre? During your last fight against Cosme Rivera, were knocked down for the first time in your career. Will that effect the way you fight especially against a stronger puncher or do you think you just got caught off balance by Rivera?

Berto: I got caught off balance. It was just a flash knockdown he didn’t hurt me and I continued to dominate after that point. Rivera is a tough fighter though.

Yanofsky: You’re facing a very experienced opponent in David Estrada on Saturday. Estrada has fought two world champions {Kermit Cintron and Shane Mosley} and nearly beat Cintron. How do you feel about facing a tough veteran like Estrada?

Berto: It’s another good test. I am a young fighter this is only my third year as a pro and im already considered a top welterweight. Estrada is a step up but this is a fight I need to win because beating him moves me up toward the top.

Yanofsky: Once again, you will be featured on HBO. Your last HBO fight was very short where you dropped Norberto Bravo 3 Times for the first round TKO. Are you nervous or excited about another fight on Network TV?

Berto: I am really excited! HBO has been showing me love and I appreciate it. The fans and media have given me great feedback and that’s good.

Yanofsky: If you are victorious who are you thinking about fighting next? Ike Quartey has moved down to welterweight and he is also promoted by Lou Dibella is he on your radar?

Berto: Right now, only David Estrada is on my radar. I got to get past him first and if I am successful that is a fight I can definitely look at.

Yanofsky: Andre, best of luck and thanks for your time. What do you have to say to your fans and readers of UnlimitedFightNews.Com?

Berto: Keep supporting me I’ll keep on improving as a fighter and entertaining my fans.

———————————————————–

Did you know Submissions were illegal in Pennsylvania?
Unfortunately, we didn’t either, but with the pressure of the
pending approval of Mixed Martial Arts in the State of
Pennsylvania, the Athletic Commission, most likely, doesn’t want to
risk any injuries in any type of event involving submissions and
unfortunately, Submission Grappling (and our event) gets the bad
end of the stick.

Hopefully, once the official legislation of MMA comes through for
PA, Submission Grappling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu events will be
allowed in their State once again, because it would be a shame to
never be able to host a grappling event in PA. The Pennsylvania
State Athletic Commissioner, Greg Sirb is a good guy and he is
working hard to get our Combat Sports approved with his State, so
I’m sure one day, we’ll be back.

I’d like to personally thank members of the New Jersey State
Athletic Commission, Phil Migliarese and the entire Balance Studios
Family, and Olympic Judo Gold Medalist for placing calls on our
behalf to the PA State Athletic Director, Greg Sirb.

We scrambled to find some alternate venues in New Jersey, but in
the height of basketball season, venues are few and far between.
I’m very sad to announce the official cancellation of our November
10th-11th event scheduled in Philadelphia.

Again, I’m very sorry for the inconvenience, obviously, we are as
shocked and upset as anyone, but in the event promotion business,
sometimes things like this happen and must continue to move
forward. We promise to continue to work harder and ensure this
never occurs again and hope everyone will continue to support us
for many years to come.

credit towards any future event of your choice PLUS get a FREE

MESI DEDICATES NEST FIGHT TO INJURED BUFFALO BILL EVERETT

Posted on | September 27, 2007 | No Comments

Mesi dedicates Oct. 12th fight to injured Buffalo Bills lineman Kevin Everett, Miller vows to upset Mesi
“Clash of the Titans” at Twin River in Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE (September 27, 2007) – Unbeaten “Baby” Joe Mesi has dedicated his CES debut on October 12 to injured Buffalo Bills lineman Kevin Everett, while Shannon Miller has vowed to upset Mesi in their 10-round main event in “Clash Of The Titans,” promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc., continuing “The Budweiser Night at the Fights” series at Twin River Events Center in Lincoln, Rhode Island.

Former WBC No. 1 contender and NABF heavyweight champion Mesi (35-0, 28 KOs) fights Miller (15-3, 9 KOs) for the vacant WBC USNBC heavyweight title. “I’m known as the third franchise in Buffalo and I do love he Bills and Sabres,” Mesi said. “I’ve dedicated my next fight and possibly other fights to Kevin Everett and his family. I’m sending him a card to let him know and an autographed pair of gloves, through the Buffalo Bills, with the message, ‘Keep Fighting, Kevin.’

“All of the guys I fight want to be the one wearing the T-shirt, ‘I beat Joe Mesi.” I’ve watched Shannon Miller box for a long time. I know he’s experienced and that this is a great opportunity for him. We’ve always been respectful towards each other, but he’s not in the same class as me. I’m going to come in having trained very hard for him. I’ll be ready. I know he’s going to be in his best shape to try and score an upset. He is a step up from the tune-ups I’ve had the last year or so. But I’m too fast and too strong for him. He’s going to be a good test for me.”

Miller, of course, is looking at Mesi as a breakthrough fight. “I look forward to this shot at upsetting Joe Mesi and putting my name on the national scene,” Miller explained. “Joe’s ‘O’ has got to go!”

“Clash of the Titans” will be taped live in the Twin River Events Center and air Saturday night, October 13 starting at 9:30 PM/ET on by CN8, The Comcast Network as well as Cox Sports Television.

“Both fighters (Mesi and Miller) understand how important this fight is for the USNBC title,” Burchfield added. “It’s so important to Miller that he’s taken off a month from work to train at with his father‘s camp. He knows what a great opportunity he has to upset Mesi. This is Joe’s biggest fight because he has a lot to prove. It’s so important to both of their careers. Both camps have been very respectful — Jack Mesi (Joe’s dad/manager) as well as Shannon’s father, Bob, and his promoter, Lisa (Elovich). To show you the type of guy Joe Mesi is, he’s dedicating this fight to Kevin Everett.”

2004 U.S. Olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada (9-1, 1 KO), NABO No. 14 rated heavyweight, is slated to fight TBA in the co-feature.

Four-time world champion, reigning IWBF light welterweight and lightweight champion Jaime “The Hurricane” Clampitt (18-4-1) and Jackie Kallen-managed Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard (11-0, 7 KOs), who has been inactive for more than a year due to hand surgery, also are scheduled to fight on “Clash of the Titans” in six-round bouts.

Undefeated Pawtucket (RI) light welterweight Eddie “The Puerto Rican Sensation” Soto (8-0, 4 KOs) meets Connecticut veteran Shakha Moore (10-11-3, 2 KOs) in a four-rounder. Also on the undercard in separate four-round fights are Rhode Island super middleweight Angel Camacho, Jr. (7-0, 4 KOs), Brockton (MA) light heavyweight Manuel Antonio Lopes and New Hampshire cruiserweight Rich Gingras (3-0, 3 KOs), the 2006 Ringside World heavyweight champion as an amateur. All boxers and bouts are subject to change.

Tickets for “Clash of the Titans” are priced at $40.00, $45.00, (Bronze), $65.00 (Silver), $100.00 (Gold) and $150.00 (Jimmy’s Platinum Club) and may be purchased by calling CES (401.724.2253/2254), going on line at www.cesboxing.com or www.twinriver.com, at the Twin River Event Center (100 Twin River Road, Lincoln, RI), or any TicketMaster location. Contact CES (401.724.2253/2254/www.cesboxing.com) or Twin River Events Center (877.82.RIVER/ www.twinriver.com) for more information. Doors open at 6 PM/ET, first bout at 7 PM/ET.

(Twin River has waived its 18+ rule for “Class of the Titans.” Anybody under the age of 18 must be accompanied at all times by an adult and they must enter through the West entrance.)
