Oshunrinde Vows To Knock Couzens Out On May 7th

Dollis Hill, London based American Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Oshunrinde feels that he has a point to prove when he returns to York Hall to face Sam Couzens, at the Graham Earl Promoted ‘Redemption Day’ double title headlined event, on Saturday 7th May 2011.

Back in January, at Graham Earl’s ‘Capital Punishment’ event, Oshunrinde plain outclassed and out punched Jahmaine Smyle until the referee called a halt to the proceedings, after just two minutes and eleven seconds of the first round, due to a bad cut over Smyle’s right eye.

Oshunrinde’s pure delight at getting his first win on British soil quickly turned to disbelief as the referee then declared the bout a technical draw, claiming the cut was caused by an accidental clash of heads.

The only problem is that at no time were their heads in close proximity for the alleged clash to occur. Video replays showed that the damage to Smyle’s right eye, and the heavily swollen left eye, were entirely due to Oshunrinde’s exceptionally long and hard straight jabs.

Following a sparring session with Leon Williams, at the TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, Oshunrinde spoke of the fight with Smyle briefly before moving on to his upcoming showdown with Sam Couzens on May 7th, “The last fight I was pretty confident before the fight. I trained really hard here at the TKO Gym with Johnny (Eames) and Barry (Smith) as you know.

I felt really good, you know Jahmaine Smyle was making out like he was some kind of bulldozer and was going to walk right through me.

Tell you what, he couldn’t get past my left hand, so that really proved my critics wrong I guess. It was a pretty controversial night, you know you were right there ringside and you saw the appalling refereeing decision.

Anyway I’m putting that in the past because right now I’m looking forward to May 7th when I get to fight Sam Couzens. Hopefully this time I’ll get that KO on my record, that is as long as there is no controversial technical decision, if you know what I mean.

I’ve been training really hard and been sparring a big Cruiserweight, Leon Williams, the Southern Area Cruiserweight Champion and sparring’s going great you know. He’s bullying me a little bit but you’ve got to do it and it’s good sparring for me.

I’ve also been sparring with another Cruiserweight here, Mitchell Balker, the Dutch guy. He’s real technical, real come forward fighter, real hard worker. They are really putting me through it, they’re two weight classes above me but I’m holding my own. I’m not just getting through it I’m also learning in the process of handling bigger, heavier guys. I’m benefitting a lot from it.

I want a KO finish on my record, one that stands, not just that but I want to get my first victory on British soil, so to speak. I’ve had eight fights overseas with eight knockouts, which apparently the British Boxing Board of Control don’t recognise. Apparently the boxing organisation is not recognised by them as a legitimate professional organisation which is wrong as they have been proven to be authentic, but that’s the way things are sometimes.

Anyway I am just going to look forward to my next fight. This is my year and I’m just going to rack up all the wins I can get and then hopefully by the end of this year we’re talking titles. I’m feeling good, I’m with the right trainers, I’m with the right sparring partners and I’m in the right family, the TKO family, which is a pretty good place to be.

I’m just looking onwards and upwards and am looking to make a name for myself.

Last time I beat him up with just my jab, this time I’m using my whole arsenal. I can guarantee that Sam hasn’t fought anybody like me before. I’m gonna box his head off”

Manny Oshunrinde, against Sam Couzens features on the Graham Earl promoted ‘Redemption Day’ event which is co-headlined by fellow TKO Boxing Gym mate Leon ‘Solid’ Williams who defends the BBBofC Southern Area Cruiserweight title against Danny Couzens at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 7th May 2011.

Co-headlining will be the eagerly anticipated Paul Morby-Daniel Cadman rematch for the Southern Area Super Middleweight title.

Heading up the support card for the two title fights sees the sensational former English Light Welterweight title challenger Michael Grant making his first appearance as a Lightweight.

In addition to Michael Grant, Graham Earl has lined up a seriously strong undercard featuring some of the Country’s most exciting young warlords.

Graham also has his exciting Light Welterweight Terry Holmes out for his third professional bout, against a yet to be named opponent. Holmes has proved to be nothing short of sensational on his two previous outings and Graham has big expectations for the heavy hitting nineteen year old from Stevenage.

Another big hitter, Belfast’s Joe Hillerby, will also be getting his third outing. Hillerby, who debuted in October 2010, has made quite an impact on the scene. No surprise really, after all he is an all action heavy hitter with a knockout finish, as proved on his debut against Gavin Putney, which lasted just 43 seconds!

His second fight, against super tough Ryan Clark, lasted the full course and turned out to be one of the most action packed fights of the night at Graham Earl’s excellent ‘Capital Punishment’ event back in January.

Lowestoft Featherweight Craig Poxton will be looking to get back to winning ways, following his loss to Youssef Al Hamidi a year ago.

Molina and Conyers Collide at The Boulevard Pool

LAS VEGAS (April 25, 2011) On Friday, April 29, 2011, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas will present Molina vs. Conyers for the second occurrence of the series, “Fight Night at The Cosmopolitan,”to be televised live on ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights.”

 

Leon Margules, promoter of the ESPN2 “Friday Night Fights” broadcast from the luxurious outdoor deck of The Boulevard Pool at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, says he is excited to bring fans a can’t-miss main event featuring Chicago’s “King” Carlos Molina and fellow spoiler Allen “The Dream Shatterer” Conyers.

 

Returning to the scene of his career-defining draw with Erislandy Lara in March, Molina (17-4-2, 5 KOs) will face Conyers (12-4, 9 KOs) in a 10-round junior middleweight bout that is sure to bring the action to the heart of the Las Vegas strip.

 

Molina vs. Conyers serves as the replacement for the originally scheduled Victor Cayo vs. Lamont Peterson fight, which had to be called off due to an injury to Cayo.

 

“Both of these fighters are coming off the biggest fights of their careers,” said event promoter Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing Promotion. “They both want to continue the momentum they’ve built by scoring another big win and both guys rarely take a step back in a fight. It will be a real treat for the fans. It’s a can’t-miss brawl and we’ve got it!”

 

The gritty pair are both known for their penchants for pulling off upsets against top-rated prospects. Molina was last seen in March fighting to a draw with Lara, that most observers felt he won. In January of this year, Conyers beat highly touted James De la Rosa by unanimous decision, dropping him three times.

 

Scheduled for the undercard are undefeated Cuban super featherweight Rances Barthelemy (11-0, 9 KO’s), and Texas lightweight Hylon Williams Jr., (13-0, 3 KOs) in separate bouts.

 

On fight night, doors will open at 4:30 pm. The first fight is at 5:00 pm and the main event will begin promptly at 6:00 pm.

MFC 30 set for June 10 in Edmonton

Headlining MFC 30: Up Close & Personal will be a tremendous matchup that has been in the works since both fighters made triumphant debuts in the organization – top contender Drew “Night Rider” Fickett (41-13) will meet Hermes “The Unreal” Franca (21-11) for the vacant and undisputed MFC world lightweight title. The five-round affair has all the potential to down as the most exciting championship fight in MFC history.

Fickett, who fights out of Tucson, Arizona, is in the midst of one of the most impressive career turnarounds in the sport’s history. Since a downtrodden 2009 campaign, Fickett has reeled off five straight wins and rejuvenated himself into one of the world’s elite competitors. A submission savant, Fickett made quick work of Matt Veach in his MFC debut, scoring a tapout via armbar just 36 seconds into their clash at MFC 28. Already boasting career wins over Josh Koscheck, Josh Neer, Kurt Pellegrino, Kenny Florian, and Dennis Hallman, Fickett will be looking to put the MFC lightweight championship at the top of his resume.

But standing in front of Fickett will be jiu-jitsu wizard Franca, who fights out of Miami, Florida. Franca, too, has a standout career track record with victories over rival Brazilian Marcus Aurelio, Spencer Fisher, Nate Diaz, Jamie Varner, and Caol Uno. Though well-regarded for his submission talents, Franca proved he has a solid stand-up game as well when he floored Robert Washington with a one-punch knockout at MFC 29.

The semi-main event of MFC 30 has instant classic written all over it as two heated rivals will square-off to settle their grudge. In what will undoubtedly be a contender for Fight of the Year, the furious fistacuffs will fly as “The Irish Hand Grenade” Marcus Davis (18-8) meets fellow striker Richie “Hell Boy” Whitson (11-1).

Both fighters have made it clear that they have a mutual dislike for each other, and they are prepared to let their respective ferocious attacks decide who will get the upper hand. Davis, who fights out of Bangor, Maine, entered the organization at MFC 29, while Whitson, who trains in Temecula, California, made his first foray at MFC 28. Both men had successful debuts with narrow split-decision wins over Curtis Demarce.

Davis’s career campaign is decorated by victories over Chris Lytle, Paul Kelly, Paul Taylor, Jonathan Goulet, Pete Spratt, and Shonie Carter. Whitson, who has four knockouts and three submissions to his credit, enters the bout with a five-fight winning streak at stake.

In another high-profile fight slated for MFC 30, the drama will unfold once more, and the rivalry taken to the next level as home-town fan favorite Sheldon Westcott (4-1-1) gets his much-anticipated rematch against stylish icon Thomas “Wildman” Denny (27-18-1).

These two met at MFC 28 and a terrific encounter ensued, but both men were left unsatisfied as the judges ruled the bout a draw. They now have the chance to break the deadlock and determine if it’s the young prospect or the cagey veteran who is king of the hill.
