‘La Revancha’ PPV Saturday night

HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 21, 2011) – The pay-per-view undercard for Saturday night’s “La Revancha,” featuring the highly-anticipated rematch between WBO and The Ring light flyweight champion Giovani “El Guerrero Azteca” Segura and former 108-pound king, Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon, has been officially announced.

“La Revancha: Segura-Calderon 2,” presented by Zanfer Promotions and PR Best Boxing, will be distributedlive in the United States from Auditorio del Estado in Mexicali, Mexico by Integrated Sports Media for live viewing at 9 PM/ET – 6 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, DISH Network and Avail-TVN, for a suggested retail price of only $39.95.

The 12 round co-feature matches a pair of former world title challengers from Mexico, Jorge “Baby Face”Lacierva (38-7-6, 26 KOs) and Fernando “Wary” Beltran, Jr. (35-4-1, 19 KOs), in an IBF featherweight eliminator.

Veteran Ricardo “Piolo” Castillo (39-9-2, 26 KOs), a three-time world title challenger, battles Joksan “El Torito”Hernandez (21-3, 14 KOs), the former WBC Continental Americas super featherweight titlist, in a 12-round bout for the IBF Latino Featherweight Championship. Castillo is the younger brother of two-time world lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo.

Also on the card, undefeated Mexican super bantamweight prospect Ramon “Cobra” Maas (24-0, 15 KOs) takes on dangerous Enrique “Duende” Bernache (15-2, 7 KOs) in a 10 rounder.

Time permitting, additional bouts will air, possibly one showcasing 18-year-old Mexican-American phenom Jose Benavides (10-0, 9 KOs), the hot super lightweight prospect from Los Angeles. Benavides, who is trained by Freddie Roach, had an outstanding 120-5 amateur record, including a gold-medal performance at the 2009 National Golden Gloves Tournament.

All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Segura-Calderon I was one of the 2010 Fights of the Year. Segura (26-1-1, 22 KOs), fighting out of Bell, California by way of Mexico, captured the WBO, The Ring and WBA Super light flyweight titles last October, when he knocked-out the previously unbeaten champion Calderon (34-1-1, 6 KOs) in the eighth round in Puerto Rico. Segura was leading (69-64, 68-65, 67-66) on all three judges’ scorecards at the time of the stoppage. Segura, who will turn 29 this Friday, also holds notable victories against Daniel Reyes KO1) and Carlos Tamara (DEC12).

Calderon, the pride of Puerto Rico, prior to fighting Segura had been the WBO light flyweight champion for more than three years (six successful title defences) and WBO minimum weight titlist (11 successful title defences) from 2003 until he moved up to light flyweight in 2007. Ivan, who is rated No. 1 by The Ring, as well as No. 3 by the WBO, has defeated great 108 and 105 pound world champions and challengers such as including victories against the likes of Rodel Mayol, Reyes, Higo Fidel Cazares (twice), Nelson Dieppa, Issac Bustos, Roberto Carlos Leyva, Ednar Cardenas, Alex Sanchez and Eduardo Ray Marquez.

“Kid Blast” Barthelemy to Return April 29

On the undercard of last Friday night’s ESPN2 Friday Night Fights broadcast from The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, super featherweight dynamo Rances “Kid  Blast” Barthelemy (11-0, 8 KOs), scored a dominating TKO victory over James Hope at 2:04 of the fourth round.   Not content to sit on his laurels, Barthelemy will be back on the next FNF broadcast from the Cosmopolitan, this time on the deck of the beautiful Boulevard Pool on April 29.   “Rances put on the type of power punching clinic that people love to watch last Friday, so by popular demand, we’re bringing him back in April,” said Barthelemy’s promoter, Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing.   Barthelemy’s appearance will be in support of the Victor Cayo vs. Tim Coleman IBF elimination fight that will serve as the night’s main event.   “Rances is a monster for this weight class,” said Margules about his 24-year-old Cuban slugger who stands an imposing 5′ 11″. “He’s got amazing power for his thin frame and even though Hope was game for a fight, he was hurt by nearly every shot Rances landed.”   Margules does admit to one problem with promoting Barthelemy. “It’s not easy finding a super featherweight willing to get in there with him. And now we’ve got to try and find one that didn’t see the tape of what happened to James Hope!”

 

Joe Hillerby: Fired Up And Ready For Graham Earl’s Big Belfast Show This Saturday

Sensational Middleweight prospect Joe ‘Belfast Banger’ Hillerby is set for his first home town fight this coming Saturday, on the Graham Earl promoted ‘Fists of Fury’ event, headlined by WBU Lightweight World Champion Willie Limond, at the King’s Hall in Belfast.

Hillerby, who debuted in October 2010, has made quite an impact on the scene. No surprise really, after all he is an all action heavy hitter with a knockout finish, as proved on his debut against Gavin Putney, which lasted just 43 seconds!

His second fight, against super tough Ryan Clark, lasted the full course and turned out to be one of the most action packed fights of the night at Graham Earl’s excellent ‘Capital Punishment’ event at York Hall in London back in January.

The normally fast starting Clarke seemed a little more cautious than normal, which allowed Hillerby to easily take the first couple of rounds by forcing the pace throughout.

Round three see the real Ryan Clarke emerge. Normal service is resumed as Clarke starts letting rip with heavy hands. Hillerby is made of sterner stuff though, standing his ground and trading with equal venom. Much closer round but Hillerby still gets the nod and is set for a good win.

More of the same in fourth with Clarke throwing everything but the kitchen sink in an effort to stop the advancing juggernaut known as the ‘Belfast Banger’. No surprise that Hillerby came out the winner in this one.

Following a sparring session, at the Ultrachem TKO Boxing Gym in London, Hillerby poke briefly on his upcoming home debut,  “I’m really looking forward to it, I can’t wait I’m buzzing for it.

My last fight was a cracker. It was good fight. I had family in supporting me so it was good to win.

This’ll be my first pro fight in Belfast, I fought in Northampton for my first fight and York Hall my last fight. Ticket sales are flying so it’ll be a cracking night.

I’ll be going all out for the win, put power in every shot. It’ll be a great night and I’ll get another good win, at home.”

Joe ‘Belfast Banger’ Hillerby, against a yet to be named opponent, will feature on the undercard of Graham Earl’s ‘Fists of Fury’ at King’s Hall, Belfast on Saturday 2nd April 2011.

Headlining the show will be WBU Lightweight World Champion Willie Limond, against a yet to be named opponent.

Graham has put together a superb undercard featuring the cream of local talent and includes the long awaited showdown between Tommy Tolan and Phil Townley. Another explosive local needle match sees Damian Taggert finally come face to face with Paddy McGarrity.

Sensational unbeaten Light Welterweight prospect  Terry Holmes is set to travel to Belfast for the first time to face a yet to be named opponent.

Douglin headed for UK to assist Macklin!

Morganville, NJ (March 28, 2011) – Highly touted junior middleweight Denis “Da Momma’s Boy” Douglin is currently en route to Manchester, United Kingdom where he’ll serve as a primary training partner for top flight middleweight Matthew Macklin in lieu of his April 16 bout with Khoren Gevor.

Douglin, like Gevor, is a skilled southpaw that makes his opponent’s work. The 2008 National Golden Gloves champion is 12-1 with 8 knockouts as a professional and has already provided quality sparring for fighters at the world class level. Last year, the Morganville, NJ native received rave reviews when he helped prepare DeAndre Latimore for his world title elimination bout against Sechew Powell.

Although his purpose over the next few weeks will be to prepare the rough and tough Macklin for Gevor, the 22 year old views the opportunity as one that will greatly benefit him.

“It’s going to be a great experience,” said Douglin, who was working hard in the gym to make adjustments following a shocking loss to iron fisted spoiler Doel Carrasquillo. “I overlooked my last opponent and working with a world class fighter like Macklin will show me what I have to do to become one of the best.”

Douglin’s return to the squared circle is expected to come in late April or early May.
