DES MOINES, Iowa – Takedown Wrestling and Des Moines Sports Station KXNO will again play host to the annual NCAA Championships Preview Show on Wednesday, March 9 from 7 – 10 p.m. (CST). Wrestling fans are encouraged to listen in for the fun, opinions and more during the three-hour Bracket Buster special.

“Takedown Wrestling and KXNO are very excited to broadcast this show again for the fans of college wrestling. It’s a way for us to bring the family of wrestling media together for 1 night to offer opinions and insight”. said Scott Casber.

Undefeated Amanda Serrano Joins Boxing 360 stable

NEW YORK (Mar. 9, 2011) – Undefeated title challenger Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano has signed an exclusive promotional with Boxing 360 and joined the New York-based company’s growing stable of future champions.

The 23-year-old Serrano (8-0-1, 4 KOs), who was born in Puerto Rico, now fighting out of Brooklyn, is slick-boxing younger sister of former lightweight contender, Cindy Serrano. Amanda is presently rated No. 3 by independent source WBAN, as well as No. 7 by the WIBA.

“I wasn’t sure about getting involved in female boxing,” Boxing 360 CEO & Founder Mario Yagobi explained. “But I was at her last fight in upstate New York and I was unbelievably impressed by what I saw from her in the ring. I was equally impressed outside of the ring when we spoke. All she does is train to fight. She doesn’t have a cell phone, a boyfriend, or even go out with friends. She trains everyday to the point of exhaustion, goes home to sleep, and then it is right back to the gym the next day for the same routine. Amanda Serrano is a world champion in the making and we’re going to position here for that opportunity.”

In her last bout in January, Serrano thoroughly dominated rugged Ela Nunez for a win by unanimous 6-round decision, avenging the only blemish on Amanda’s record, a draw versus Nunez in 2009.

Boxing 360 Director of Boxing Bob Duffy believes Amanda is ready to challenge cross-town rival Maureen Shea, the reigning NABF featherweight champion from the Bronx. “I think it’s a natural for New York City and would draw a lot of interest,” Duffy said. “Maureen is the first female NABF champ from New York City. She’s the best and Amanda wants to fight the best. She needs to get past Maureen to get to where she eventually wants to reach.”

LAS VEGAS (March 9, 2011) — For a marquee pay-per-view affair entitled “Relentless,” Nicaraguan boxing superstar Ricardo Mayorga remains determined to live up to the event’s name with unyielding trash talk toward WBA Super Welterweight champion and the Pride of Puerto Rico, Miguel Cotto until the first bell of their championship matchup on Saturday, March 12 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT LIVE on SHOWTIME PPV.

At Wednesday’s final press conference from the Media Center at MGM Grand, the mouthy former two-division world champion delivered some final verbal blows in his last official appearance behind the microphone before Saturday’s scrap. Cotto, though more reserved than Mayorga, provided his share of quips as well. As Mayorga taunted Cotto to take the traditional face off shot from the dais, Cotto responded, “You can take the picture with your mother,” and left the press conference.

Below are some highlights from the loud, spirited news conference, including quotes from Hall of Fame promoters Bob Arum, Don King and Cotto’s trainer Emmanuel Steward.

Cotto:
“Mayorga can check with his promoter to see if I’m a favorite of eight to one or six to one. Just check to make sure who [Don King] bet on. We know he’s bet on the other guys many times and not his fighters.

“I can retire any time I want with all I’ve done in my career. I don’t have to do this. But I’m ready for the fight.

“Having Manny Steward on our team, he doesn’t just work with Miguel Cotto. He works with the whole team. We are pretty grateful for Manny and the way he works and the way he teaches us to be better.”

On coming out of fights clean win or lose:
“It’s better for you. You don’t have to pass this process to be cleared in the hospital. It’s better for you to be healthy. The number one thing in my life next to my family is my health.”

In response to King’s incessant shouting from the back of the dais:
“You finished?”

Mayorga:
“I’d like to thank Bob Arum for allowing me to eat his sheep on Saturday night.

“I’m either going to knock Cotto down or I’m going to bust him open with a cut on one of [his] two eyes. I guarantee you that’s going to happen in the first round. As soon as that bell sounds, I’m going after him. I’m going to kill this guy. I can sense that Cotto has a genuine fear of me. I can see it in his eyes. I can see it in his face.

“I can acknowledge that Miguel Cotto was a good, if not great fighter, at a lower [weight] class. At 154 pounds, he is in the wrong territory. It’s not his category. When he beat Yuri Foreman, he basically beat a guy with one arm and one leg. I’m going to shatter Cotto’s dreams.

“Whoever is on Cotto’s side, they’re going to have to wear black come Sunday. Tell the athletic commission to have 911 really close by the ring Saturday night because Cotto is going to be in bad shape.

“Ricardo Mayorga was born in Granada, Nicaragua in 1973, March 10. Today is March 9. Tomorrow I turn 38. Today I’m 37 but tomorrow I’ll be 38. I asked God personally for my birthday gift to give me this victory against Cotto. I’m not only going to win. It’s going to be a brutal knockout. I’m going to see if I can break a record. I’m going to try to score the fastest knockout in the year 2011.

“This time around, I took this fight very seriously. I sacrificed what I haven’t before. December, January and February, I sacrificed all those months not being with my family and putting my all into this training camp. I need to earn a Golden ticket. If I [end the fight] in the first four rounds, I think I’ve earned the respect and at the same time, the opportunity to fight Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao knocked out Cotto in, I think, the ninth or tenth round so I want to knock him out in four so people know that I’m better.”

After taking off his shirt, Mayorga remarked, “Look how ripped I am. Do I look overweight? Tell Cotto to lift his shirt up and you’ll see the beer gut he’s got.

“I guarantee you that after the fight, Cotto nor Manny [Steward} will be at the post fight press conference. Cotto will be at the hospital and Manny will be there with him

“What are you planning on doing when I beat you? Continue in boxing or look for a job? All Nicaraguans and Latins alike, including Puerto Ricans are going to bet on me and not on Cotto because they know what the smart bet is. After the fight, they are no longer going to call him Miguel Jose Cotto. They’ll call him Miguel Jose Mayorga. I’m going to finish the job and send you back over to Ricky Martin so you can finish your job.”

King:
“There’s no fighter that can promote a fight better than Mayorga can. He’s the most promotable fighter out here. The biggest opponent he has is himself. If he could neutralize himself, he would be undeniably unbeatable but he falls prey to himself. If he can do what he’s doing right now, dedicatedly and committedly, it’s going to be great for the sport of boxing.

“Eight to one odds? Being as gullible as I am, you think I could get a million dollars on Mayorga because I think I can see eight million coming back. Mayorga is going to surprise everyone in the world. It is something that will be categorically beautiful.

“If Cotto were to knock out Mayorga, that would be business as usual. There would be nothing to it. Nobody would have to worry about nothing that would be something. But if Mayorga knocks out Cotto, now you’ve got history in the making. Now you’ve got something that you’d never forget. “You’d say, ‘I was there, I saw this fight.’ Now, we’re looking for somebody else that Arum’s got: Pacquiao. I want everything Arum has. This is the stepping stone to the inner sanctum to all the rubies and gold and jewels and I’m after them.”

Arum:
“I’m a business man and as Don’s talking, all I can see is [the media] sending out the message and people, all over the country, buying the pay-per-view.

“Miguel has sold more pay-per-view homes than any other fighter in the history of Puerto Rico, in the history of the world. He’s a tremendous draw on the island of Puerto Rico which truly loves Miguel.

“When fighters get up and talk a lot, what happens? They expend energy. I told Emmanuel, let the guy keep talking. Let him talk for the next hour because Saturday night, he’ll be a lot weaker. My champion, Miguel Cotto fights in the ring and that’s where he shows his greatness because no talk means anything at the press conference.”

King interrupts, “Harvard! That’s Harvard Strategy. We’re expending energy. We will see if the intellectual strategy of Harvard prevails over the streets!”

Arum responds, “To paraphrase the Harvard fight song: With crimson flowing into the ring in defeat, they will raise the hand of the victor…Miguel Cotto.”

Steward:
“It’s a good thing that fights are not won at press conferences because we’d be knocked out of the box. Miguel Cotto is going to knock out Mayorga. It won’t go over four rounds. [Mayorga] has been training since January but he doesn’t have the skills or the power. Miguel is in great shape, punching sharp and accurate. It’s going to be exciting. Both are known for good fights but there is no way Mayorga can avoid being knocked out inside of four rounds.

“You can talk after the fight and Don can come up and waive one flag, a white flag.

After Mayorga pulled off his shirt while interrupting Steward’s statement:
“You’re out of your class. You can pull your shirt off, you can get butt naked up here but it still doesn’t mean you’re going to win the fight. You want be talking after Saturday night. You won’t be pulling up nothing. You’ll be laying flat on your back. We’re planning our celebration. We’ve got two parties already planned.

“As we all get older in life, we think a little bit before we do things. And I’ve noticed in watching Mayorga’s last fight, he’s slowing down on his impulsive style of fighting. Fundamental boxing will win – a solid, hard left jab [from Cotto] which will get there faster than Mayorga’s wide looping punches.

“The two most important things in fighting Mayorga are: you don’t let bully you and just let him run you down…. and you don’t block his punches; you let him miss completely.”

The media fight week schedule continues TOMORROW/Thursday, March 10 at 10:30 a.m. PT in the Media Center at MGM Grand with a trainers roundtable featuring the world-renowned trainers in town for Saturday’s fight, including Steward. THATCH AND HOLLAND RETURN AT ROF BACKLASH

RING OF FIRE MMA is one of the longest running Mixed Martial Arts promotions in the world. On Saturday April 16th they return with ROF 40: BACKLASH! Headlining the event will be a clash of two of the top Welterweight prospects on the professional circuit. ROF Young Gun Champion, Brandon RUKUS Thatch will be defending his belt against challenger Chris THE HAMMER Holland.

There is no more dynamic exciting fighter in the welterweight division then Brandon RUKUS Thatch. He is a lifelong martial artist whose father and grandfather were both professional fighters. After a short stint in Kickboxing Thatch set his sights on MMA, and has never looked back. Although being known mostly for his devastating striking ability, he has proved his worth on the ground as well, with exactly half of his victories coming by way of submission.

A neck injury de-railed the young star, and after a 20 month absence he returned at ROF 39, where he finished Las Vegas fighter Danny DEE-1 Davis in a non title bout. Thatch now looks forward to returning to the ROF cage and defending his YOUNG GUN Title belt against Chris Holland. Thatch won’t have to look very far for motivation as Holland has beaten two of Thatch’s training partners in the ROF cage. “I am looking for a little payback for sure, but also to keep my belt. It comes down to who wants it more, me or him. This is my house, and these are my fans. I won’t disappoint them. I’ll be ready.” said Thatch.

Chris The HAMMER Holland is known for his hard hitting aggressive fight style. He has amassed a 7- 4 record, with all 7 of his wins being a TKO or KO. He made his Ring Of Fire debut at ROF 33 where he finished Chris Williamson in the second round by TKO. He returned at ROF 38 to face his biggest challenge to date against knock out artist Vinnie Lopez. In what promised to be a stand up war, Holland shocked the crowd that night with a KO victory in the first round. After the bout MMA writer Luke Henderson wrote:

“At a certain point, people are going to have to stop referring to Holland as an underdog. Every undefeated, or monster opponent that is put in front of the man, is as quickly put back out. This win cements Holland as a real-deal main event draw, and more than a few people in the crowd were wondering when we might see him again.” The comment couldn’t be more prophetic, as Holland gets his shot at the title, in the main event, come April 16th.

Making his return to the RING OF FIRE will be grappling standout Chaun Sims. Sims debuted for ROF in 2010 after working his way up on smaller shows, bringing a dangerous reputation with him. Sims is a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu under professor Amal Easton and trains MMA at GRUDGE Training Center with multiple UFC veterans. Facing Sims will be Vitor Belfort protégé Cesar MUTANTE Ferreira (3-1) from Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Ferreira is one of the hottest prospects to come from the country known for producing some of the toughest fighters in the world. Ferreira is currently training in his home country, but will do final fight preparations in Las Vegas with his mentor Vitor Belfort.

One of the most intense fighters on the roster returns to ROF competition as well. ROF Women’s YOUNG GUN Champion, Michelle The BOBCAT Blalock will defend her belt for the first time on March 18th. Going undefeated as an amateur, Blalock is ready to step up into the professional ranks.

The newest addition to the RING OF FIRE roster is Jason THE DRAGON Lee. Lee was voted the ATO 2010 Amateur Fighter of the year. With a 4-1 amateur and 2-0 professional record, Lee looks to be one of the top prospects to come out of the region in quite a while. The DRAGON will face Oakland’s Christopher Clark. Clark trains at multiple gyms in the talent rich Nor Cal area, and is a fighter out of the RINO Sports Team.

Pat McAleese – There’ll Be No Spanish Conquest For Gonzalez On March 19th

‘Phat’ Pat McAleese returns to the ring next weekend, for the first time since his shock September defeat when he challenged for the British Masters Light Middleweight title, at the Steve Goodwin ‘Essex Eruption’ quadruple headlined extravaganza at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham, Essex on Saturday 19th March 2011.

McAleese, who will be co-headlining the event along with Southern Area Cruiserweight Champion Leon ‘Solid’ Williams, International Masters Light Middleweight Champion Yassine ‘The Showman’ El Maachi and top ten ranked Cruiserweight Tony ‘The Conqueror’ Conquest, is set for his first international competition when he faces Spain’s Francisco “Fran” Gonzalez.

Back in September McAleese suffered the first defeat of his career when he faced Barnsley’s Lee ‘Lightning’ Noble in a rematch, having met and drawn on the Ricky Hatton promoted show at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre back in March.

McAleese beautifully controlled the early rounds utilising his full arsenal of punches to such effect that Noble could only respond with urgent jabs to keep the Newmarket man at bay. By the end of round six McAleese had clearly secured five, with just the fourth being a close affair.

Early in round seven the tide began to change, following Noble letting rip with a beautiful right hook that shook McAleese to the core. Noble tried to capitalise but McAleese swiftly moved off the ropes even though his legs were less than stable. Noble’s confidence rose and he was able to pick off his opponent with wickedly quick jabs and combinations.

Round eight started see a tiring McAleese taking the fight back to Noble, who was happy just to whip out his hurting jab to keep McAleese at bay. Round nine was more of the same except McAleese had started to start getting a little more success.

Late in the round McAleese dipped to let rip with a body shot but was caught with a lightning fast uppercut that stopped him in his tracks. Noble then just pushed his gloves against the already comatose McAleese to send him crashing to the canvas just as the bell rang.

Following a training session, under the ever watchful eyes of co-trainers Johnny Eames and Brian O’Shaughnessy at the Ultrachem TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, McAleese spoke briefly about the upcoming Gonzalez showdown as well as his future title aspirations, “I’ve had a little look on the internet, Gonzalez seems to come forward which, with the new stuff I’ve been learning in the gym, since my defeat I’ve been working hard in the gym learning some new things, I think it’s going to suit me and hopefully come the 19th I’ll make him look silly.

I’ve been sparring with everyone really, every sort of style you can think of. This Spaniard looks quite orthodox, with me sparring all different styles from southpaw to orthodox, different heights and so on, it’s going to go in my favour. I can adapt to anything .

Before the end of the hopefully I’ll get to go for another title. That’s my goal, by the end of 2011 is to be a champion, hold a belt. This is just the first stepping stone to my comeback. I’m just going to take each stepping stone by stepping stone, each of these stepping stones can lead to a title.

I really want to thank everyone that comes and supports me. I’ve done a load of tickets again this time. Thanks for sticking by me, I really appreciate it and I wont let you down come the 19th.”

‘Phat’ Pat McAleese versus Fran Gonzalez will be co-headlining the Steve Goodwin promoted ‘Essex Eruption’ quadruple headlined super show at Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham, Essex on Saturday 19th March 2011.

Co-headlining the ‘Essex Eruption’ event with McAleese are fellow Ultrachem TKO Gym mate Leon ‘Solid’ Williams against David Vicena, Romford Cruiserweight Tony ‘The Conqueror’ Conquest and Yassine ‘The Showman’ El Maachi, who will both be against yet to be named opponents

The undercard of the quadruple headlined super show includes a whole host of local talent including three more of McAleese’s TKO team mates Daniel ‘Hurricane’ Herdman versus Kevin McCauley, ‘Pretty’ Ricky Boylan faces Kristian Laight and the highly rated unbeaten Featherweight prospect ‘Saint’ George Jupp against a yet to be named opponent.

Michael ‘The Zambezi Hitman’ Norgrove will be looking to extend his unbeaten record to five when he faces Czech Republic’s Jan Balog. Another fighter who will be looking to increase his uneaten record is Biggleswade’s Jamie Boness.

Middleweight Kris Agyei-Dua and Danny Brown will be making their second outing in a Month, after both securing wins on their debuts at York Hall on February 20th.

Further fights are expected to be announced shortly to bring the ‘Essex Eruption’ card to fourteen bouts.

HAVOC BOXING PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES AND VIDEO LINK

NEW YORK CITY (MARCH 8, 2011)—Tuesday at Portobellos in New York City, Havoc Boxing Promotions held the kick off press conference for a big boxing event that will take place on Saturday April 2nd at the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, New York.

In the main event, Light Heavyweight contender, Elvir “The Kosovo Kid” Muriqi (38-5, 23 KO’s) will take part in the ten round main event.

Also present was Light Heavyweight Joel Torres (7-0, 4 KO’s) who will be fighting in the eight round co-feature along with Jr. Middleweight Frank Galarza (2-0, 1 KO); Jr. Middleweight Charles Vanderveer (1-1, 1 KO) and Bantamweight Elton Dharry (6-5-1, 1 KO).

Also seeing action on April 2nd will be undefeated cruiserweight Santander Silgado (18-0, 16 KO’s); super featherweight Gary Stark Jr. (23-3, 8 KO’s); welterweight Tommy Rainone (13-4, 4 KO’s); light heavyweight Ronson Frank (16-0, 8 KO’s) & Jr. Welterweight Jose Peralta (5-1, 3 KO’s).
