Tickets for the Golden Gloves

March 9, 2011. This Wednesday evening show is part of the quarterfinals of the Daily News Golden Gloves.

The first bout will begin at 7:30PM.

The location of the show is the Masonic Temple at 317 Clermont Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11225.

The ticket price is $25 per person.

She will be fighting on the undercard of Sergio Gabriel Martinez vs Serhiy Dzinzinuk, March 12, at Foxwoods MGM Grand Casino.

He will be fighting in the co-feature against Paul Wolak (28-1-0) along with the main event of Miguel Cotto (35-2-0) vs Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1.)

The fight will be at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

ROBERT “THE GHOST” GUERRERO ARRIVES IN LAS VEGAS FOR TRAINING CAMP

Las Vegas NV (February 28, 2011) – Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero has arrived in Las Vegas in preparation for his upcoming bout against Michael Katsidis “The Great”. The fight takes place on the Golden Boy Promotions “Action Heroes” card at the MGM Grand on April 9, 2011, televised live on HBO Pay Per View.

“This is my first time coming out to Las Vegas for training camp” said Guerrero. “My main goal is to get great sparring and work with the best fighters in the world. I know Katsidis will be applying a lot of pressure so I’m not leaving any stone unturned when it comes to my training. I’ll be physically and mentally ready for anything Katsidis brings to the table.”

Takedown Wrestling’s Scott Casber Set To Call Big Ten Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa – Following Penn State head coach Cael Sanderson and the University of Nebraska, Takedown Wrestling Media founder and host Scott Casber is the latest to depart from the Big 12 Conference as he’ll serve as the public address announcer for the 2011 Big Ten Championships, set for this weekend at Northwestern University. Casber called the action for the Big 12 Championships for the last 12 seasons and hasn’t called the Big Ten Championships since 1999.

Casber is a nationally recognized announcer, radio, TV commentator and promoter and his voice has been heard throughout the sports world for over 30 years. He has announced many of wrestling’s premier events including the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals, the NWCA All Star Classic, the Body Bar Invitational, the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, the NCAA Championship, the World and Olympic trials and more. In addition to his weekly hosting duties of the nationally syndicated TakeDown Wrestling Radio and TV programs, Casber is also a co-founder of the new USA Wrestling Weekly.

“I’m thrilled to have an opportunity to call the championship event for one of the best wrestling conferences in the nation,” said Casber. “Several All-Americans and national champions will compete in Evanston this weekend and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Casber serves as the public address announcer for several professional teams in Iowa, including the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League, the Iowa Energy of the National Basketball Developmental League, and minor league baseball’s Iowa Cubs. Former world champion Alejandro Berrio Back on right track fighting for Boxing 360

NEW YORK (Feb. 28, 2011) – Former IBF super middleweight champion Alejandro “Naco” Berrio, the Colombian power puncher now living in New Jersey and fighting for Boxing 360, fought last Saturday night for the first time in North American since losing his title in 2007.

Berrio (32-5, 29 KOs), who has won his last six fights, stopped 3-time world title challenger Antwun “Kid Dynamite” Echols (32-16-4, 28 KOs) in the third round of their fight in Grand Island, Nebraska.

“We believe Alejandro Berrio can become world champion once again,” Boxing 360 Founder and CEO Mario Yagobi said. “This was the next step for him on his way back to the top. We want to keep him busy and move him into a world title shot position.”

Berrio’s most notable victories came against previously unbeaten and present WBO titlist Robert Stieglitz four years ago by third-round TKO for Stieglitz’ IBF belt, and then 22-0-2 Yusaf Mack – fighting Otis Griffin March 4 in an IBF light heavyweight elimination bout — who Alejandro put to sleep in the sixth round nearly five years ago. Berrio also sent 2-time world title challenger Syd Vanderpool into retirement via a ninth-round stoppage in 2005.

Berrio’s first title defense against 20-0 Lucian Bute in the challenger’s backyard, Montreal, was unsuccessful. “I wasn’t properly prepared to fight Bute that night,” Berrio noted. “I’m coming back strong and want another shot at him or any of the other champions.”

Boxing 360 director of boxing Bob Duffy added, “Berrio is back on the right track. He’s living and training in New Jersey with a new lease on his boxing career. A few more fights and he’ll be ready to fight any super middleweight in the world.”

Graham Earl To Showcase Local Fighters In Belfast On April 2nd

Former WBU World Lightweight Champion, turned promoter, Graham Earl is set to promote his second boxing event of the year, ‘Fists of Fury’ at the Nugent Hall at Kings Hall in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on Saturday 2nd April 2011.

Graham, who over the past year or so has been scouring Northern Ireland for up and coming young boxing talent, will be showcasing many of his latest Irish signings as well as bringing a couple of his established British boxers to Belfast.

Heading up the list of local fighters is Joe ‘Belfast Banger’ Hillerby, who will be making his third outing as a pro.

On his pro-debut, at the Northampton Cricket Ground in October 2010, Hillerby caused a sensation when he stopped Luton’s Gavin Putney in just 43 seconds of the first round.

Hillerby followed this up with a shutout points win over the excellent Ryan Clarke at York Hall in January.

The normally fast starting Clarke seemed a little more cautious than normal, possibly due to Hillerby’s stunning first round stoppage of Putney a couple of months earlier, which allowed Hillerby to take the first couple of rounds by forcing the pace throughout.

Round three see the real Ryan Clarke emerge. Normal service is resumed as Clarke starts letting rip with heavy hands. Hillerby is made of sterner stuff though, standing his ground and trading with equal venom. Much closer round but Hillerby still gets the nod.

More of the same in fourth with Clarke throwing everything but the kitchen sink in an effort to stop the advancing juggernaut known as the ‘Belfast Banger’. No surprise to anyone that Hillerby came out the winners in this one.

Another Belfast boy, Ian Boyd, is also set for his first home town fight. Boyd will be looking to get the fist win on his record, having lost on his debut to Lincoln’s Rick Boulter by a very close 57-58 points margin back in October.

In addition to Hillerby and Boyd there will be no less than six Belfast boys, Mark Morris, David Rosbotham, Mark Ginley, Sean Montgomery, Padraig McCory and James Ferrin making their professional debuts on April 2nd.

Graham will also be showcasing one of his latest British signings, former WBF Intercontinental Welterweight title challenger James Todd from Swansea.

Todd, a former Team Calzaghe member, is used to fighting away from home having fought twice in America, including his unsuccessful WBF title challenge against Ugandan Mohammed Kayongo in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Having lost both his American fights Todd will be looking to get his career back on track with a good win in Belfast.

Graham will also be bringing over exciting unbeaten Light Welterweight Terry Holmes, who has impressed on his two previous outings, having out pointed both the experienced Johnny Greaves and Cassius Connor by shutout 40-36 point margins.

‘Fists of Fury’ will also feature Miami, Florida’s Emmanuel (Manny) Oshunrinde, a former professional Basketball player turned boxer. Oshunrinde will be looking to secure his first UK win, having lost on his debut and having the misfortune of having a clear first round TKO win on his record reduced to a Technical Draw under the new BBBofC rule introduced earlier this year.

At Graham’s ‘Capital Punishment’ event in January Oshunrinde faced the tough Jahmaine Smyle. Both protagonists started fast, however Oshunrinde quickly took control with his superior jab, often forcing Smyle backwards. Around half way through the round Oshunrinde again sent Smyle backwards, but this time followed up and let rip with a big left-right to the head.

Smyle covered up quickly, but not quick enough to stop another heavy straight right. Oshunrinde looked set to continue the onslaught but the eagle eyed referee had spotted the blood gushing from a cut above Smyle’s eye and called a halt to the proceedings.

Popular Lynchburg Super Middleweight to Make Patriot Center Debut

FAIRFAX, VA (February 28, 2011) — Popular super middleweight Scott “Cujo” Sigmon (14-2, 6 KOs) of Lynchburg, VA will make his highly-anticipated Patriot Center debut on the action-packed Jimmy Lange Boxing card set for March 12th in Fairfax, VA, Ice Promotions officials confirmed today. The event, presented by Valcourt Building Services, features eight bouts, highlighted by Main Event headliner and former Contender star Jimmy Lange (34-4-2, 24 KOs) taking on DeMotte, IN’s Jimmy Holmes (19-1, 10 KOs).

Known for granite chin, extreme conditioning and aggressive fighting style, Sigmon will face Robbie “Taz-Mexican Devil” Tovar (15-6-1, 5 KOs) of Lafayette, IN in an eight-round bout.

Never one to back down or remain shy about his intentions on whom he’d like to challenge, Sigmon has quickly made his mark on the Washington, D.C./Baltimore region. The 23-year-old boxer, who always attracts a strong, southern Virginia following wherever he fights, last fought on February 5, 2011 in Charlotte, NC, beating Frank Armstrong via 3rd Round TKO. Selected by fans as the Boxing Along the Beltway’s 2009 “Prospect of the Year”, he fought six times in 2010, including two memorable slugfests. One was an impressive, hard-fought victory over Julius Kennedy with the other an entertaining back-and-forth loss to Jessie Nicklow. His two losses have come at the hands of fighters who had a combined record of 37-2 when they fought.

Umar Sadiq Strikes Gold In Knockout Fashion.

Ilford Amateur boxer Umar Sadiq started the year in knockout fashion last week, by winning the 81kg class at the British University and Colleges 2011 Championships held at the Coventry University Students’ Union facility.

23 year old Umar secured his place in Sunday’s final in stunning fashion, after knocking out Northumbria’s Chavez Pattison in just 42 seconds of the first round. Umar then followed this feat up in the final, against Coventry’s Alex Mellor, with a second round stoppage finish.

The perfect start to his season came at just the right time as Umar will be taking part in the ABA North East London championship, which are held in Hainault, Essex, and start this coming Thursday.

Umar, who fights out of Repton Boxing Club, spoke about his Golden performance following a work out session at the Ultrachem TKO Gym in Canning Town, “It’s the second gold I’ve won, I’ve been quite inactive. The last competition I was in was the novices, but I got beat in that. I was a Middleweight, struggling to make the weight. Before that I was in the Haringey Boxing Club competition and I got Gold in that.

I got a bye to start with then two fights, the semifinal and the final. In the semi-finals I stopped the opponent in 42 seconds and in the final I countered the guy in the first round and stopped him in the second.

Obviously those opponents will not be the same level as I’ll be facing in the ABAs later this week. It’s confidence boosting stuff, but I’m not going to let it get to my head and think that I’ll stop people. I’ll go out there and try and box my way to victory.

Hopefully now I’ll be a bit more active since I’ve moved to Repton. I’m a lot stronger at Light Heavyweight. I’ve put a lot more work on in the gym. Good things to come hopefully.”
