NEW YORK (Jan. 4, 2011) – World championship Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotions STRIKEFORCE and M-1 GLOBAL, in association with premium television network SHOWTIME have signed a new, multi-year agreement to co-promote events headlined by the MMA legend Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko (31-2, 1 NC).

In addition, STRIKEFORCE has assembled eight of the world’s top ranked heavyweights to compete in the STRIKEFORCE World Grand Prix – Heavyweight Tournament, a three-stage, single-elimination tournament that will take place over several events in 2011. The first two quarterfinal fights begin on Saturday, Feb. 12, live on SHOWTIME from the IZOD Center in E. Rutherford, N.J. In the main event, the 34-year-old Emelianenko will face the towering Antonio “Big Foot” Silva (15-2) in a STRIKEFORCE and M-1 GLOBAL co-promoted event. Co-featured on Feb. 12, former world champion Andrei Arlovski (15-8) will face Sergei Kharitonov (16-4), the last man to defeat current STRIKEFORCE Heavyweight World Champion Alistair “The Demolition Man” Overeem.

The other two quarterfinal matchups are as follows: Overeem (34-11, 1 NC) will face the only man to tap out Fedor, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist Fabricio Werdum (14-4-1), while the heavy-handed Brett “The Grim” Rogers (11-2) will meet a hungry Josh Barnett (29-5). The location and date for these quarterfinal tournament fights are to be announced.

Fedor’s unprecedented, record-setting run of 28 professional MMA bouts without a defeat has prompted many MMA enthusiasts to label Fedor as the greatest of all time. Since his career began 10 years ago, Fedor has faced and defeated many rival superstars and champions of this era including Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, Andrei Arlovski and Mark “The Hammer” Coleman.

In what ranks among the most watched MMA fights in the United States, Fedor made his live primetime network television debut on Nov. 7, 2009 on CBS, when he defeated unbeaten rising star Brett Rogers in a STRIKEFORCE and M-1 GLOBAL co-promoted event. Despite a difficult first round in which he sustained a deep cut above his eye, Fedor turned the tide early in the second round with one vicious right-hand punch and finished Rogers shortly after.

Then, on June 26, 2010, Fedor suffered a stunning upset at the hands of Werdum, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., in one of the most watched MMA bouts on SHOWTIME. Werdum, who has defeated a host of top rivals including Overeem, Silva and Brandon “The Truth” Vera, trapped Fedor’s arm in a triangle armbar that forced Fedor to tap out at the 1:09 mark of the opening round.

Fedor has only one other official loss on his record, the result of a doctor stoppage due to a cut he sustained seconds into a matchup with Japan’s Tsuyoshi Kosaka on Dec. 22, 2000. Fedor avenged the TKO loss with his own first-round TKO of Kosaka at a PRIDE Fighting Championships event in Japan on April 3, 2005.

WHAT: The fighters who will compete on a STRIKEFORCE Challengers Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event Friday, Jan. 7, live on SHOWTIME® (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast)) from Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn., will participate in an open workout in Nashville just two days before the eagerly awaited event.

The 28-year-old Woodley (7-0), a two-time All-American NCAA wrestler for the University of Missouri and St. Louis native, will take on fellow fast-rising star Tarec “The Sponge” Saffiedine (10-2), of Temecula, Calif., in the main event.

Cormier (6-0), a 31-year-old, two-time U.S. Olympic wrestling team member who placed fourth in the 2004 Games in Athens, Greece, will face Devin Cole (18-8-1) of Medford, Ore. The ambitious Cormier competed successfully five times in 2010.

Ferguson (2-0), the only athlete to compete in the Olympic Games, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) World Championships and the Abu Dhabi Submission Wrestling World Championships, was a three-sport star at Howard University in the mid-90s competing in football, wrestling and track & field. While training for the Olympics, he furthered his schooling and received a doctorate in education in ’09 from Capella University. The 35-year-old will face undefeated Ion Cherdivara (1-0), of Montreal, Canada, on Friday.

Saint Preux (9-4), who’ll take on “Abongo” Humphrey (7-2), of Atlanta, played for the Vols from 2001-2004. After graduating with a degree in Sociology in ’04, he went on to compete in Tennessee’s first sanctioned MMA event on Feb. 20, 2009. On Friday, the 27-year-old will become the first fighter in history to compete in three consecutive STRIKEFORCE events. He has won six in a row.

The promising, 27-year-old Budd (1-0), a chiseled athletic specimen from British Columbia, Canada, will face Amanda “Lioness Of The Ring’’ Nunes (5-1), of Patterson, N.J., by way of Salvador, Brazil, in a women’s middleweight (145 pounds) match. Budd, a seasoned kickboxer, recorded her first pro MMA victory, a second round TKO over Shana Olsen in STRIKEFORCE Challengers competition last Oct. 22.

HAMILTON, NEW JERSEY (January 3, 2011)—On Saturday night January 22nd, 2011 boxing returns to the beautiful Hamilton Manor in Hamilton, New Jersey as Nedal Abuhumoud and Nedal Boxing presents a great night of boxing featuring some top prospects and entertaining fights.

In the main event, Former U.S. Olympian Terrance “The Heat” Cauthen will take on Phillip McCants in a Welterweight bout scheduled for eight rounds.

Cauthen of nearby Trenton, New Jersey has record of 35-7 with nine knockouts.

Cauthen represented the United Sates in the 1996 Olympics which were held in Atlanta.

He turned pro in December of that year and went on to win the first fifteen bouts of his career. Cauthen suffered his first professional defeat when he stopped by Teddy Reid in an effort to win the NABA Super Lightweight title.

After that loss, Cauthen went on a nice run of eleven straight wins and picked up two titles in the process.

He won the Interim NABF Jr. Welterweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Franco Ogentho (15-2). Cauthen defended the three times with decision wins over Roberto Ortega (18-7-1); Ricky Quiles (33-5-3) and Jermaine Marks (9-1-2). In the fight against Quiles he captured the NABA Super Lightweight title.

Cauthen lost two in a row which included going the distance with former world champion Paul Williams (25-0) before winning the IBU Jr.

Middleweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Nurhan Suleyman (16-3). He followed that up by winning the USBA Jr. Middleweight title with a tenth round stoppage over former Olympian Dane Craig.

That fight set up a shot with Sechew Powell in an IBF Elimination bout.
Unfortunately for Cauthem he was stopped in four rounds in what turned up to be as shootout as both guys landed bombs in the fight.

Cauthen has gone 3-3 in his last fights with impressive wins over Alexis Camacho (16-0); Isam Khalil (15-1-2) and Cleotis Pandarvis (10-2-2). In his last bout, Cauthen dropped a twelve round unanimous decision to John O’Donnell (23-1) this past September 10th in England in a bout that was televised on SHO BOX.

McCants has a record of 8-1-1 with three knockouts and has won five straight fights that spans six years.

McCants is coming off a four round unanimous decision over Tyson Schwieger on September 11, 2009 in Philadelphia.

In a six round co-feature, Charles Hayward of Philadelphia will battle Billy Salser of Mansfield, Ohio in a Light Heavyweight bout.

Hayward, 5-2 with one knockout, has won four in a row which includes decision wins over undefeated Patrick Budd (2-0) and in his last bout; Hayward moved up to six rounds by scoring a unanimous decision over Mazur Ali (6-6) on July 2nd in Vineland, New Jersey.

Salser, 3-1 with two knockouts, won his first three bouts which included a third round knockout iver undefeated Adam Harrison (1-0). Salser then took two and a half years off and came back to drop a four round unanimous decision to Joe Njau last March 26th at the Hamilton Manor.

With everyone celebrating New Years Day around the world, some who have lost a loved one to the streets recently will be wondering if they could have made a difference. Could we all make a difference and help us get the word out.

Santiago got his story about his move from the streets to the cage covered by WMUR and Eagle Tribune. “Off the streets and into the ring”, Lawrence’s Santiago fighting for a better life.

“There are two ways you can go when you’re running on the streets. You wind up in prison or you wind up dead,” said Santiago, who competes as a 185-pound middleweight. “I feel like I got off lucky.”

It is away from the gym, though, and away from work, where Santiago, known as “The Brown Bomber,” accomplishes his most significant work. “All those mistakes I made, I just want to do all I can to correct them. I’m ready to give back to the community,” he said.

Most recently, he has been a featured speaker at the Lawrence Boys Club and will be speaking at Department of Youth Services (DYS) to 13-15 year old kids in Q1 2011.

“It’s far from a ‘scared straight’ kind of talk,” he said. “I speak about life experiences, and I just try to be honest with them about what’s out there and the mistakes I made.” (Jan 15th, 2010)

Cuban missile Rigondeaux to terminate ‘Big Bang’ Casey March 19 in Dublin

CORK, Ireland (January 2, 2011) – Interim WBA World Super Bantamweight Champion Guillermo “El Chacal” Rigondeaux, arguably the greatest amateur boxer of all-time, is preparing to school challenger Willie “Big Bang” Casey when they square-off March 19 in Dublin.

The Guillermo-Casey title fight features a pair of unbeaten boxers headlining a show promoted by Top Rank, Nowhere 2 Hyde Promotions and Dolphil Promotions.

Rigondeaux (7-0, 5 KOs), a southpaw now fighting out of Miami, was a 2-time Olympic Gold Medalist, as well as a 7-time national champion who captured a pair of World Championship titles during his incredible 243-4 amateur career.

“Rigo” defected from Cuba and made his pro debut May 22, 2009, won the NABA super bantamweight title in his third action as a pro and last November in only his seventh fight, he won a unanimous 12-round split decision against Ricardo Cordoba (37-2-2) to become the Interim WBA 122-pound divisional champion.

“Casey doesn’t belong in the same ring as me,” the 30-year-old Rigondeaux said, “but I admire his courage for wanting to fight me. I’m excited about fighting in Ireland again, where I won my first World Championship as an amateur in 2001. My last fight, against Cordoba, was on the Pacquiao-Margarito card. Millions of people watching on pay-per-view, along with 61,000 fans in Dallas, watched me do what I had to do to win the WBA title.

“I am world champion. Casey and all of the fans in attendance will see a true world champion in action March 19. If Casey thinks I’m going to Ireland to lose my world title belt, he’s making a big mistake because I’m going to win, and in sensational fashion. He is tailor-made for me. I watched a couple of rounds of Casey’s previous fights and concluded that he’s a bit of a one-trick pony. We are as far apart in class as in residence, make no mistake about that and when the bell rings March 19th, that will certainly be evident to all.”

Casey (11-0, 7 KOs) stopped Paul Hyland in the fourth-round of their Nov. 6 fight in Willie’s hometown, Limerick (Ireland), to capture the vacant European super bantamweight crown. The 29-year-old Casey, however, must relinquish that belt in order to fight Rigondeaux.

Irishman Gary Hyde has been Rigondeaux’ manager since signing “El Chatel” (The Jackal) to an exclusive management agreement, in Cuba, back in March, 2007. “Willie is a warrior and a manager’s dream,” Hyde noted, “but unfortunately for Team Casey, Rigondeaux is unlike any boxer Casey has ever faced. ‘Rigo’ is a freak of nature! His amateur pedigree is unmatched in boxing history and he has already stamped his unique talent on the professional scene by winning the WBA World Interim Title in just his seventh pro fight.”

Rigondeaux will be working with Ronnie Shields as his head trainer for his third straight bout. “Casey is very tough and he appears to have a big heart,” Shields added. “Once Rigondeaux catches Casey, though, ‘Rigo’s’ power will shake him down to his boots. ‘Rigo’ hits hard for his weight and Casey will be punching the air most of the night because ‘Rigo’ is also a defensive master. I’ve worked with him for his last two fights and we understand each other very well.”

Sherman Williams plans to give Evander Holyfield a beating

CHARLOTTE, NC (December 30, 2010) – Battle-tested Sherman “Tank” Williams plans to give living legend Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield a beating January 22 when they headline “Redemption In America: The Journey Begins Now” Pay-Per-View Event, live from America’s resort, The Greenbrier’s Colonial Hall, in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

Williams (34-11-2, 19 KOs), who is at training camp in Ft. Lauderdale (FL) with his head trainer, John David Jackson, feels disrespected by Holyfield (43-10-2, 218 KOs) heading into their 12-round main event for Holyfield’s World Boxing Federation title.

“I’m motivated to whip Holyfield and he has a well deserved proper beating coming,” Williams said. “January 22nd is going to be great with me beating Holyfield and taking the WBF title.”

“Redemption In American,” presented by ARK Promotions in association with The Greenbrier, will be distributed in North American by Integrated Sports Media for live viewing at 9 PM/ET 6 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay per view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, Avail-TVN and DISH Network in the United States, as well as Viewer’s Choice and Shaw PPV in Canada, for a suggested retail price of only $29.95.

“Redemption” will fuse world class boxing and entertainment; showcasing a production that includes high-energy music presented by Broadway performers, along with dancers and aerial artists. Competitive supporting fights, soon to be announced, will set the stage for the main event featuring Holyfield on his journey to become the first heavyweight champion to regain the coveted world title four different times.

Williams, a native of Freeport, Bahamas, has defeated former world champion Al “Ice” Cole, fought multiple world title challenger Jameel McCline to a draw, and extended former world heavyweight titlist Ruslan Chagaev the full distance in their 2005 fight.

“Tank” realizes that an opportunity be beat a future Hall of Famer like Holyfield can pump life back into his career. I’m excited about this fight, not just because I’m fighting Holyfield, but what beating him impressively, or knocking him out, can do for me. It can better position me for a fight against Vitaly Klitschko or David Haye. They’ve been fighting hand-picked looney tunes. Even though I’m a Bahamian, I’ve lived here (Vero Beach, FL) a long time and I represent the United States, Western Hemisphere and the Great Atlantic. I want to bring one of their title belts back to this side of the Atlantic.

“Just because he’s a few years older, Holyfield still is the same into the ring. Age is wisdom. His age means nothing to me. I plan on going to war with him. Styles make fights and I’ve been overlooked in the past because of my style. Some don’t like my pressure. I’m expecting to fight the greatest Holyfield, which will bring out the best in me.”
