WBC Latino Light Middleweight Champion Jimmy Colas today spoke for the first time about his upcoming International Masters clash with Yassine El Maachi at the Steve Goodwin promoted ‘Judgement Day’ double title super show at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 4th December.

“I am coming to England as I want to show the British public who Jimmy Colas is and this will be nothing more than an exhibition match.” said the France based Haitian before continuing, “There is no British Light Middleweight who can beat me. El Maachi is not even in the top 10 of what I consider to be your poor quality boxers. In Britain you all protect your boxers.”

Although having fought most of his fights in France, Colas has shown that he is not just happy to travel, having traveled to Germany to secure the European Union Light Middleweight title in 2005 and Haiti when he won the WBC Latino title last year, but actively craves fighting on the world scene.

“I fight anybody and when the chance came to fight El Maachi I jumped at it. I have looked at El Maachi on the internet and he offers nothing.” before turning his focus beyond the El Maachi clash, “It will be an easy fight for me and then I want to box Lukas Konecny for the European title. I lost a majority points decision, hotly disputed which I really won, in 2009 to Konecny and look what he did to your Matthew Hall.”

The importance of this contest is not lost on Colas, or El Maachi to that matter, as the victor will rocket up the world rankings. However Colas is in bullish mood and makes it quite clear that he intends that it will be him in contention for a world title shot in 2011 with his parting shot, “El Maachi will be humiliated in front of his own fans. I will make it a painful night for him.”

Yassine El Maachi versus Jimmy Colas for the International Masters Light Middleweight title will take place at the Steve Goodwin promoted “JUDGEMENT DAY” double title super show at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Saturday the 4th December 2010.

Co-headlining ‘Judgement Day’ will be Ryan ‘Mr Attitude’ Barrett who will be defending his newly won International Masters Lightweight title, against the heavy hitting Hungarian knockout artist Istvan Nagy.

Duo claim belts with stoppage wins on home turf

Prizefighter winners Gavin Rees and Willie Casey showed the value of winning Barry Hearn’s eight-man one night tournaments by claiming major titles on Saturday night.

Prizefighter Light-Welterweights champion Rees won the vacant British Lightweight title in Newport against John Watson, while in Limerick, Prizefighter Super-Bantamweights winner Casey disposed of fellow Irishman Paul Hyland in style to win the European Super-Bantamweight belt in just his 11th professional outing.

Rees came out on top of a fabulous tussle live on Sky Sports, heading the Matchroom Sport bill at the Newport Centre in Wales and seemingly in command for the first six rounds. But just when it seemed he was cruising to victory, Watson dug deep and threatened to turn the bout on its head. However, Rees scored a crucial knock down in the 10th round and his Liverpudlian opponent never recovered his legs, with the referee stopping the fight in the next round to hand the title to the Welshman.

In Limerick, Casey was in commanding form and after growing into the fight in the first three rounds, Casey continued to land the more potent shots in the fourth and the referee was forced to stop the fight, handing the belt to the man called Big Bang, extending his unbeaten record to 11 fights and he is expected to face the man who vacated the belt – Kiko Martinez – in the new year.

Unbeaten British Super-Featherweight champion Gary Sykes tops the bill in the 15th edition of Prizefighter on November 20 at York Hall, Bethnal Green, joining The Mongolian Warrior Choi Tseveenpurev and Coronation Street actor and former England Commonwealth Games captain Steve Bell.

Jimmy Lange Scores Dramatic 10th Round KO to Capture NABA Title at Patriot Center

FORMER CONTENDER STAR SCORES DRAMATIC 10th ROUND KO OVER JOE WYATT TO CAPTURE NABA TITLE AT THE PATRIOT CENTER

FAIRFAX, VA — Displaying his trademark heart, guts and determination, Jimmy Lange scored a dramatic 10th round knockout of Joe Wyatt with 22 seconds remaining in the final round to capture the North American Boxing Association’s U.S. 154-pound title Saturday night at the Patriot Center.

There was plenty of action in the early rounds with each fighter gaining an upper hand at times, but with neither taking total control of the fight. Lange struck two minutes into the fifth round when he knocked Wyatt down after connecting with a flurry of combinations. However Wyatt, who showed little ring rust despite fighting for the first time in more than three years, would recover to inflict his own damage causing a cut above Lange’s left eye. Jimmy Glenn, Lange’s trainer and one of the top cutmen in the business, did an outstanding job controlling the gash during the fight.

By the seventh round both fighters had drawn blood and continued to go toe-to-toe to the delight of the large and enthusiastic crowd. Then, like he has done many times before, Lange reached down deep inside to pull out the last-second win when he connected with a powerful right hand in the closing moments of the final round that sent Wyatt down for the count .

“We aren’t in it for the money; we’re in it for a world title,” said manager/father Johnny Lange at the post-fight press conference. “If you think of boxers from the 1950’s and 1960’s Jimmy is a throwback. Show me any other fighter today that has as much heart as Jimmy Lange.”

“I thought the fight was even heading into the 10th round.” said Jimmy Lange. “The only person who had a hard time with my right hand was Joe.”

In the evening’s co-main event former world champion William Joppy and Cory “Black Ice” Cummings fought to a majority draw, ending with an action-packed 10th round with each fighter desperately seeking a knockout blow.

Todd Wilson remained unbeaten in impressive fashion, scoring a third-round TKO over Corey Goodwin after being led to the ring by his trademark bagpipe player.

Wilson’s teammate, Zain “Tiger” Shah kept his unblemished record intact by pulling off a close (and many would say controversial one based on the shower of ‘boos’ coming from fans after the announcement) unanimous decision over Omar Sims.

Perry Ballard dispatched Booker Mullins with a devastating knockout at the close of the first round, and then proceeded to publicly challenge Lange to a rematch. (Lange defeated Ballard by fourth-round TKO in the Patriot Center’s first boxing show held on September 17, 2005.)

Lange’s former Contender teammate Jonathan Reid got back on the winning track by beating Mike McFail, while Brandon Quarles defeated Lawrence Jones in an entertaining bout that kick the evening off.

Ring Notes: Three-time world champion Paul “The Punisher” Williams took time out from his Washington, DC-area training for his upcoming rematch against Sergio Martinez to attend the fight… junior middleweight contender Harry Joe Yorgey made the short drive south from Pennsylvania to catch Lange in person sparking talks about a future Lange-Yorgey showdown… former world champion Demarcus “Chop Chop” Corley, set to fight Serhiy Fedchenko next Saturday in the Ukraine, served as a commentator for the promotion’s video production team… other members of the local boxing community spotted were Pepe Corea, Ishmail Arvin, Jaime Palma, Tony Jeter, Purcell Miller, Carlos Quintana and Darrell Tyson… …. Perez Demolishes Herrera in Hometown Debut!

Newark, NJ (November 7, 2010) – Unbeaten lightweight phenom and Newark’s very own Michael Angelo “The Artist” Perez, 10-0 (5 KO’s), needed just 62 seconds to destroy veteran Hevinson Herrera yesterday evening at the Prudential Center.

The 2008 National Golden Gloves champion caught Herrera’s attention with the very first punch he landed and it was all downhill for the experienced Colombian from there. Perez hurt Herrera with a left hook before decking him shortly thereafter with a combination, sending his adoring fans into a frenzy. Herrera made it back to his feet but was in no condition to continue, which forced Referee Randy Neumann to save him from taking further punishment.

“Tonight was a blessing,” said Perez, who stopped the same fighter that went the distance with former world champion Ricardo Cordoba. “I had all of my fans here supporting me and scored the fastest knockout of my career. I loved fighting at home and hope return here soon.”

SHO Results: Lopez Retains Title in Thriller; Johnson Advances to Super Six Semifinals

LAS VEGAS (Nov. 6, 2010) – In the most important fight of his career, and what may be considered by many as a candidate for fight of the year, Juan Manuel Lopez retained his WBO featherweight title with a technical knockout over Rafael Marquez live on SHOWTIME® from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. In the evening’s co-feature veteran boxer Glen Johnson earned the final spot in the Super Six World Boxing Classic Semifinals with a knockout win over Allan Green.

On Saturday night Lopez made the eighth successful defense of his 126-pound title since 2008, with all but one of his wins coming by way of knockout.

Lopez (30-0, 27 KOs), who remained undefeated, stunned Marquez (39-6, 35 KOs) in the third round which only seemed to ignite a fire in Marquez who finished the round with a furious combination.

Lopez seemed to be pushing the head of Marquez down periodically. After multiple warnings referee Tony Weeks took one point from the champion in the fourth.

In the seventh after a heated exchange of speed and power, Lopez broke though and hurt Marquez.

In the eighth round it became apparent that Marquez’s right hand was not as effective as it once had been. Marquez refused to answer the bell for the ninth citing a right shoulder injury.

In his corner, Marquez was heard saying, “I can’t move it. I can’t move it… I just can’t go.”

Lopez fell to his knees in the center of ring overcome with elation and pride.

After the fight Marquez said “I was hurt before I came into this fight but I didn’t want to postpone it again. “ He continued, “In the third round I couldn’t even throw punches anymore.”

Lopez had nothing but praise for Marquez after the fight. “He’s a world champion. When you get him hurt he is going to come right back after you.”

Saturday night was monumental for Lopez as he established himself among boxing’s elite beating one of boxing’s best. “We showed we are both strong guys. He is a real champion. We enjoyed fighting each other so why not do it again?”

Johnson, the elder of the two by a decade, didn’t allow age to be a factor Saturday night, coming out of the gate looking the sharper of the two. The 31-year old Green battled through the first few rounds as Johnson went to the body often and used his experience to wear Green down.

In the last few seconds of the third round Johnson stunned Green with a powerful uppercut causing Green to stumble to his corner at the sound of the bell. The two fighters continued to exchange at the opening of the fourth with Green regaining his composure and scoring on the judges’ cards.

Green, who appeared to be leaning in all night, was knocked down to the canvas with a shot that looked dangerously close to the back of the head. He was counted out by referee Robert Byrd at 2:24 of the 8th round. At the time of the knockout Green was ahead on two of the three judges scorecards (67-66, 67-66, 65-68).

“He’d been leaning that way all night,” said Johnson. “I wanted to get close enough to land those punches. I was patient and eventually I did just that.”

The knockout earned Johnson three points on the Super Six World Boxing Classic scoreboard and the final spot in the Semifinals. Johnson is tied with Arthur Abraham in second place for the moment but the last points-based Group Stage bout pits Abraham against Carl Froch on Saturday, Nov. 27 on SHOWTIME. After that the Semifinal matchups will be set.

“It’s so gratifying to win,” Johnson continued. “I have dedicated a lot of time to this business and I have had my ups and downs in boxing. But I never quit and I worked for this opportunity. I intend to make the most of it.

“I feel great at this weight. It was a lot easier to get down than I thought. And age has nothing to do with anything. I may fight into my 60’s.”

“I want to say that I love Allan Green like a brother. He has a great heart. He is a great human being. My only regret tonight is that we can’t both continue in the Super Six tournament. We competed tonight and we left it in the ring.

1. Our Halloween show last weekend was a huge success. We had twelve exciting bouts consisting of Juniors, Seniors, Masters and both male and female. Many people including the entire Gleason’s staff were in costume. The icing on the cake was the appearance of three great World Champions: Iran Barkley, Mark Breland and Mike Tyson.

2. The Metropolitan Championships at Gleason’s Gym this Friday Night November 12, 2010, at 8:00 PM. Both quarterfinal and semifinal bouts will be contested. The Gym will close at 6:00 PM Friday night for working out. The weigh-in begins at 6:00 PM for the boxers.

The ticket price is $20 per person. Children 6 and under are not charged. All gym members and registered amateurs with their books in hand pay $15 per person.

3. Support Gleason’s newest Pros. Twins Dean and Scott Burrell will make their long awaited professional debuts on November 12th .

The show will be in North Bergen, NJ at Schuetzen Park starting at 7:30 PM.

Brothers in arms: Younger Lima steps up to face Fraser at MFC 27

On the same night his brother vies for the MFC welterweight crown, Dhiego Lima has stepped up to make his organizational debut at MFC 27: Breaking Point.

Lima (3-0) will take on Bill Fraser (4-1) at a catchweight of 175 pounds in a fight that takes over the spot vacated by the previously scheduled heavyweight bout between Ron Sparks and Ryan Fortin. Both Sparks (broken hand) and Fortin (shoulder) were injured in final preparation for their matchup. The door swung open for Lima and Fraser, and they were duly rewarded as their clash will launch the main-card live television broadcast on HDNet Fights emanating from the River Cree Resort and Casino, just outside Edmonton, Alberta.

Later on in the evening’s main event, the younger Lima, who is just 21, will have the opportunity to watch his year-older brother Douglas try to claim the MFC world welterweight championship when he squares off against Jesse Juarez.

Like his brother, Dhiego Lima has shown substantial submission talents as he has won all three of fights via tapout with two of those coming inside the opening round. Lima trains at Ascension MMA along side Junior Assuncao and Raphael Assuncao in Atlanta, Georgia.

Fraser, who hails from Comox, British Columbia, has mixed in training in his home province along with stints in Las Vegas. In both of his fights this year, Fraser has stopped his opposition in the second round – one via submission and one via TKO.

Aaron Prior Jr. Decisions Dyah Davis; Marcus Johnson Dominates Kevin Engel

FARGO, N.D. (Nov. 6, 2010) – On the eve of the win-or-go-home Group Stage 3 matchup between 168-pounders Allan Green and Glen Johnson in the Super Six World Boxing Classic on SHOWTIME®, offensive-minded Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez TKOed James McGirt Jr. in hopes to send a message and become the division’s top prospect. In the co-feature bouts at Scheels Arena in Fargo, N.D., Aaron Pryor Jr. won a unanimous decision over Dyah Davis and Marcus “Too Much” Johnson dominated Kevin Engel en route to a third-round TKO.

Despite taking a sizable step up in opposition, Rodriguez’ (17-0, 13 KOs) ascent to stardom wasn’t slowed and neither were his hands in his first ShoBox main event. The fan-friendly, give-and-take puncher from Worcester, Mass, by way of the Dominican Republic, delivered a trademark action-packed performance. McGirt (22-3-1, 1 NC, 11 KOs) from Vero Beach, Fla., defended well in the early rounds but was unable to establish a sustained offensive attack. By rounds seven and eight, Rodriguez began teeing off on his tired opponent. Referee Mark Nelson called the fight a TKO in ninth round after McGirt’s lack of punches transformed him into a 168-pound heavy bag. Rodriguez is winning, winning impressively and now winning impressively over name opponents – three things that prospects need to do to become contenders.

Some 34 years after Aaron Pryor lost his spot on the U.S. Olympic team to Howard Davis, his son Aaron Pryor Jr. (15-2, 11 KOs), of Cincinnati, avenged the loss by defeating Davis’ son, Dyah. The lanky, 6-foot-4 Pryor with an 80-inch reach established his long jab to keep away the shorter Davis (18-2, 9 KOs) of Boca Raton, Fla. Bloodying Davis with a straight right in the sixth, Pryor maintained control through most of the eight scheduled rounds. Pryor won a unanimous decision with scores of 78-74 and 79-73 two times.

Determined to dazzle the feisty Fargo fight fans and the national television audience at home, Johnson (20-0, 15 KOs), of Houston, Texas, brutalized Engel (18-4, 1 ND, 15 KOs) for three rounds before referee Mark Nelson stopped the bout and awarded Johnson a technical knockout. Though Engel showed tremendous heart by refusing to quit after a third-round knockdown, the St. Louis native was outmatched from the first bell. Johnson’s hand speed, accuracy and destructive left hook to the body proved “too much” for Engel.

After the telecast, SHOWTIME analyst Steve Farhood opined, “Edwin Rodriguez is the No. 1 American super middleweight prospect with Marcus Johnson at No. 2. Rodriguez beat Engel first (on April 30 on ShoBox) and his win over McGirt is a better name on his resume than anyone on Johnson’s resume.”

Tonight’s telecast will re-air on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 11 p.m. ET/PT on SHO2. In tomorrow’s telecast, Green takes on Johnson at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas to decide which man secures the last spot in the tournament’s Semi-finals on SHOWTIME Championship Boxing (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast). In the main event, budding superstar Juan Manuel Lopez defends his WBO Featherweight belt and unbeaten record against Mexican legend Rafael Marquez.

The event was promoted by DiBella Entertainment.
