LAS VEGAS (Nov. 4, 2010) – SHOWTIME Sports® will kick off a tremendous run of world championship boxing to close out 2010 this Saturday with two can’t miss fights, LIVE at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

In the SHOWTIME Championship Boxing main event, Puerto Rican superstar and WBO featherweight world champ Juan Manuel Lopez and Mexican legend and future Hall of Famer Rafael Marquez will meet in what has been called a rebirth of the spirited Puerto Rican vs. Mexican rivalry that spans generations.

In the co-feature, world-ranked contender Allan Green will face veteran contender and former world champ Glen Johnson in a must-win Super Six World Boxing Classic bout. The winner of the 12-rounder will earn a spot in the tournament Semi-Finals.

The fighters participated in a final press conference just two days before the important bouts and were joined by promoters Bob Arum and Gary Shaw, and their trainers and managers.

New York, NY (Nov. 4, 2010) – An already stacked STRIKEFORCE Challengers card just got that much stronger with the announcement that Dream World Champion Marius “The Whitemare” Zaromskis will take on battle-tested Waachiim Spiritwolf on Friday, Nov. 19, at Jackson Convention Complex in Jackson, Miss., LIVE on SHOWTIME® at 11 p.m. ET/PT, (delayed on the West Coast).

The featured welterweight (170 pounds) televised fight will replace the bout in which Ryan Couture could not fight due to a lingering staph infection. The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight card presented by Rockstar Energy Drink will mark STRIKEFORCE’s initial foray into the state of Mississippi.

Both fighters are coming off losses – Zaromskis (13-5) to Brazil’s Evangelista Cyborg on June 16 at STRIKEFORCE LIVE in Los Angeles and Spiritwolf (8-7-1) to Billy Evangelista at a Challengers event in Fresno, Calif. on Oct. 22 – and are eager to return to the win column.

The highly explosive, 30-year-old Zaromskis, who hails from Siauliai, Lithuania, has never shied away from taking on the sport’s best as he fell to Nick Diaz on Jan. 30, 2010, in Sunrise, Fla. Prior to that loss, Zaromskis had won three consecutive fights, all by way of head kick in the first round.

Zaromskis won the DREAM 2009 Welterweight Grand Prix and became the Japanese promotion’s inaugural Welterweight Champion by defeating Seichi Ikemoto at Dream.8. He conquered both Hayato “Mach” Sakurai and Jason High at Dream.10.

Zaromskis’ first love was karate as a child before switching to kickboxing. As an adult, Zaromskis moved to London to train with the London Shootfighters Fight Team. Since signing with STRIKEFORCE, Zaromskis has moved to San Jose and currently is training at American Kickboxing Academy (AKA).

Fans will no doubt recall Spiritwolf’s STRIKEFORCE debut on Oct. 22 in Fresno when he fell to the unbeaten, comebacking Billy Evangelista in a highly entertaining slugfest by unanimous decision (30-27 twice and 29-28). Spiritwolf, 34, is a Fresno native now fighting out of Poway in the San Diego area. He is the head instructor of his own gym, Spiritwolf MMA.

He said after the fight he should have won. “I come to fight and that’s what I did tonight,’’ he said. “It is bad enough I thought I deserved the decision, but to not get a round on those scorecards is ridiculous. Honestly, I feel I got ripped off.”

Spiritwolf has trained with some of MMA’s best, including MMA legends Randy “The Natural” Couture and Dan Henderson.
In the Nov. 19 main event on SHOWTIME, lightweight (155 pounds) star and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro (20-4) will face Justin “The Silverback” Wilcox (9-3) of Cincinnati. In another televised fight, former University of Tennessee linebacker Ovince St. Preux (7-4), of Knoxville, Tenn. will seek his fifth consecutive conquest inside the distance when he faces Antwain “The Juggernaut’’ Britt’’ (11-4) of Virginia Beach, Va., in a light heavyweight (205 pounds) scrap.

Marston & McKenzie ‘Tear Up’ In Carnaby Street – To Promote Women’s Boxing at 2012 Olympics

Women fighting in the heart of London would normally be cause for concern but today (thurs) two professional women boxers battled it out on Carnaby Street, Soho, to raise awareness of the new Olympic sport.

Women’s boxing will have a place in the Olympics for the first time when London hosts the games in 2012. Both Marianne ‘Golden Girl’ Marston and sparring partner Angel McKenzie believe it’s an exciting time for women’s boxing.

The two boxers were joined by dozens of citizen reporters from Winkball.com, there to video people’s opinions about a sport which still holds a certain taboo with the British Public.

As well as taking its place in the Olympics, woman’s amateur boxing will be aired for the first time in the UK next weekend live from the GB Amateur Championships in Liverpool.

Speaking to reporters from Winkball.com, the UK’s number one video messaging website, Marianne said: ‘It’s a great time for women’s boxing and about time women boxers got the recognition they deserve.

“For the whole of human evolution people have been saying that women shouldn’t fight or shouldn’t box. But we’re athletes and entertainers, and a lot of women have worked hard for this recognition.”

Marianne, 36, from Bermondsey, is one of the UK’s few female professional boxers. Her next bout is against Lana Cooper on Saturday December 4th at York Hall in Bethnal Green.

Asked if she worries about being hurt in the ring, she said, “In the ring I don’t really feel any pain. The pain comes in the training sessions. But maybe you should ask my sparring partner.”

Marianne’s sparring partner is Angel McKenzie, 31, from Herne Hill. Angel is perhaps best known as a former 2009 Big Brother contestant.

Speaking to WinkBall.com she echoed Marianne’s comments.

“I started to box for fun about 10 years ago and it helped me give up drugs. Women’s boxing is different from men’s. We can’t hit as hard and there are less knockouts. We box more like cats – we’re more graceful.”

Asked if she thought it was time for women’s boxing to take its place in the Olympics, she said: “Come on, it’s the 21st century. Women should be able to show what they can do because boxing is an art. We entertain.

Sure it can be scary getting in the ring. You feel it in your guts, but we’re there to entertain and the Olympics will greatly help the sport. People like something new.”

But Marianne also worries about her teeth. “Luckily my dentist is my best friend”, she said.

Privately educated far away from the world of boxing, Marianne only found the sport after becoming seriously ill a couple of years ago and using boxing training to get fit again. She was discovered by Smokin’ Joe Frazier who thought Marianne was so naturally talented he offered to train her. CageStars Mixed Martial Arts Promotion Now Rocktagon MMA – Amateur Elite Series to Debut November 20th

Elyria OH. November 4, 2010 – Father and son team, Lorenzo and Joe Gentile, founders of Ohio’s local MMA promotion CageStars’, recently signed a deal with James Jeda, founder of Las Vegas based JJM Enterprises, LLC. As a result, CageStars’ name and brand will now be defined as Rocktagon MMA.

According to Rocktagon MMA founder and CEO James Jeda, “Rocktagon MMA is a mixed martial arts and entrainment group that will bring great shows to the community and help boost the economy in Elyria as well. The 22-year-old Lauzon, fighting out or Reality Self Defense, is the younger brother of UFC lightweight contender Joe Lauzon (18-5-0), who fights George Sotorupoulos on UFC 123 (Nov. 20 at Auburn Hills, Mich.). Trites, representing Wai Kru in Boston, has won three of his last four fights.

In the co-main event, Bellingham (MA) lightweight Mike “The Beast” Campbell (8-3-0) attempts to get back on the winning track against Detroit invader Tony “Lion Heart” Hervey (12-8-0).

Rhode Island MMA pioneer Mat Santos (2-6-0), of East Greenwich, seeks revenge against BJJ specialist Everilton “Sonca” Silva (3-3-0), of Marlborough, MA). Silva won a two-round, split decision against Santos in 2006.

“This is our third MMA show and it promises to be the best by far,” CES MMA promoter Jimmy Burchfield said. “We’re improving each show in order to give fans what they want – action and compelling match-ups. Lauzon and Trites don’t like each other and that’s certainly going to show in the cage. Campbell’s ready to bounce right back from a disappointing loss on our first show, also at Twin River, but he’s going to have his hands full with a tough veteran like Hervey. Mat Santos kept MMA alive in this state and we’re excited to have him back fighting with the opportunity for him to avenge a controversial loss against Silva. Our matchmakers are rounding out the remainder of what promises to be a power-packed undercard for our last show of 2010.”

All bouts feature three, five-minute rounds. Undercard fights will soon be announced. All fights and fighters are subject to change.
