Portsmouth Light Heavyweight Joel ‘El Toro’ McIntyre, the protégé of Former WBU Champion Tony ‘Oakey Kokey’ Oakey, is set to debut against Elvis Dube at the Mickey Helliet promoted ‘Oceana’s Eleven’ event at the Oceana Nightclub in Southampton on Sunday 21st November 2010.

McIntyre, who is co-trained by Johnny Eames and Derek Grainger at the Ultrachem TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, London, is clearly pleased that his maiden outing has been switched to a venue closer to his home fans as he recently said,”I was disappointed when the fight (at the York Hall in London) was called off as I was really ready. Now I look at it as just one of those things. I think it’s great that I’m now debuting closer to home, there will be far more of my supporters that can get here than would have to York Hall.

Training has been going really well and I’ve been getting plenty of really good sparring here with Ali (Heavyweight Ali Adams), Mitchell (Cruiserweight Mitchell Balker) and Kyran (Light Middleweight Kyran Singh) and I’m ready for the 21st.”

INDIANA TECH NAMES MIKE ESTER AS WRESTLING HEAD COACH

Fort Wayne, IN – Indiana Tech is proud to announce the arrival of Warrior Wrestling! Leading the program will be first year Head Coach, Mike Ester. Coach Ester brings a wealth of experience and success from the High School and College levels as a competitor and coach.

A Fort Wayne native, Ester coached his at his alma mater Snider High School from 1998-2006. He led the Snider Panthers to eight SAC Conference titles, eight IHSAA Sectional titles, one team Regional Championship, one team Semi-State Championship, and 2002-03 Team State Finalists. During his tenure at Snider, there were 26 individual state finalists, 18 of which were medalists, three IHSAA state champions, and one IHSAA Mental Attitude award winner. Coach Ester’s squad produced six IHSAA Academic All-State wrestlers and added five other Honorable Mentions.

From 2006-2010, Ester was the Head Assistant Coach at Trine University which was in its second year of competition when he arrived. Ester had the pleasure of helping the program grow to national prominence, eventually landing the program as high as a #16 ranking in the NWCA DIII polls with as many as seven nationally ranked wrestlers at one time, was a two-time Team NCAA Midwest Regional runner-up, and the school’s first ever NCAA Qualifier (Nick Kraus).

In High School, Coach Ester was a member of Snider’s wrestling team. He was a two-time state qualifier and a third place medalist during his senior campaign (1992). Ester was also a co-captain for the Panthers when they claimed the school’s (and city’s) first ever team Semi-State Championship.

After high school Ester attended Manchester College where he was a member of the wrestling team from 1992-1996. For the Spartans, Ester was a 4-year letter winner, two year captain, three-time conference champion, the first Spartan wrestler to be crowned champion at the prestigious “Midwest Classic” and was a NCAA qualifier his senior season.

“It is an honor and privilege to have this opportunity to start a wrestling program here”, Coach Ester says. “My family and I feel blessed! Indiana Tech has committed leadership from the very top down who are dedicated to the success of their student athletes. I’m excited to be a part of the Warrior athletic family and intend to represent the program with class and success as has been modeled by the other coaches and athletes here. Our mission will be to use this program as a mechanism to produce productive members of our society who are accomplished not only as athletes, but as scholars and citizens as well.”

Coach Ester currently resides in Fort Wayne, IN with his wife, Tami, and two children Brittani (12) and Brady (9).

World title challenger to appear in London sports store to launch boxing range

Undefeated middleweight prospect Michael Oliveira Goes Home for Brazilian Debut

MIAMI (Oct. 28, 2010) – Unbeaten, UNBC Middleweight Champion Michael “Chairman of the Board” Oliveira returns to his roots November 20, headlining “A Gala Night of Boxing” pro-am event, at Espaco das Americas in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

“A Gala Night of Boxing,” presented by Rumble Star Promotions, in association with Reunion Sports & Marketing, will air live on SporTV and TV Globo International.

The 20-year-old Oliveira (11-0, 9 KOs), named by the Brazilian International Press Award’s as its 2009 Athlete of the Year, was born in Sao Paulo but he moved two weeks after birth with his family to Miami.

“We’re very excited to go home and have the opportunity for Michael to showcase his skills to Brazilian boxing fans there and watching on TV Globo International and SporTV,” said Michael’s father and Rumble Star CEO, Carlos Oliveira. “Michael has many family members, friends and a growing fan-base in Brazil, as well as the United States. TV Globo, the third-largest network in the world, has started a partnership with us to broadcast Michael’s fights during the next two years through SporTV and Globo TV International. Oliveira, who won the UNBC title September 11, 2009, will make his defense in the 10-round main event against Dominican power-puncher Junior Ramos (10-5, 6 KOs).

Other fighters scheduled to fight on the “A Gala Night of Boxing” cards, against opponents to be determined, include South American and Brazilian Heavyweight Champion George Arias (46-11, 33 KOs), of Sao Paulo, and light middleweight Edvan Dos Santos Barros (10-10-1, 7 KOs), who lives in Florida but was born in Salvador, Brazil.

Brazil’s top amateur boxers and Sao Paulo favorites, female heavyweight Roseli Feitosa and welterweight David Lourenco, are also slated to box in separate matches. Feitisa is the 2010 World Boxing Championships gold medalist, while Lourenco reigns as the 2010 Youth Olympic Games gold-medal winner.

Veterans look to re-establish careers at Tachi Palace Fights in December

Lemoore, Calif. – It’s now or never for four fighters that will compete on the Tachi Palace Fight’s “Deck the Halls” mixed martial arts card on Thursday, December 2 at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, Calif.

Four veterans of the sport for one reason or another will be looking at their respective bouts as career defining moments.

“This is a career changer right here,” said Lodi, Calif.’s Tim McKenzie, who takes on Tachi’s own Poppies Martinez (18-7) in a welterweight bout. “We’re both coming off losses and we both were right there on the verge of a title. We both want to make that last push towards a title run, too.”

Much like McKenzie (12-8) and Martinez, Huntington Beach, Calif. middleweight Jay Silva (5-4) has stumbled recently. The hard-hitting Silva has lost three straight bouts, two in the Ultimate Fighting Championship to C.B. Dollaway and Chris Leben and is coming off of a 6-second knockout loss to Bellator’s Hector Lombard.

Silva draws one of California’s most respected veterans, North Highland’s Jaime Jara (28-7).

Tachi Palace Fights will stream live and free on MMAJunkie.com at 5:30 p.m. with MMAJunkie’s John Morgan, Tachi Palace Fight’s flyweight champ Ulysses Gomez and Fresno’s B95 Andre Covington cageside with the call.

The stream will be blacked out to fans within 100 mile radius of the Palace unless there is a sellout.

“I feel like skill wise I am at the peak in my career,” said the 41-year-old Jara. “I feel like I’m the best I’ve ever been right now and it’s time to make my run if I can keep my body in one piece.”

Jara has won seven consecutive fights since a controversial split-decision loss to Visalia, Calif. middleweight Doug Marshall (12-4) in May 2009.

“I don’t know a lot about (Silva). He’s lost his last three fights to Leben, CB and a knockout to Lombard,” Jara said. “I know he’s Brazilian and I assume he has good jiu-jitsu.”

Silva doesn’t know much about Jara either.

“I don’t know anything about him,” said Silva. “And I’m not trying to get to know him. My training has been very good. I’ve changed my whole camp and I’m going to come and make a statement in this fight.”

McKenzie and Martinez are both also looking to make statements following losses.

“This is going to be a good fight. McKenzie is a good all-around fighter and comes from all angles. I have to bring my ‘A’ game for this fight,” said Martinez, who made a long career at Tachi at lightweight before making the jump to 170 pounds.

“I’ve gone up in weight and fighting guys that are a lot bigger than me. I’ve been putting on muscle, though.”

McKenzie and Martinez share losses to former Tachi Palace Fights champ David Mitchell (11-1), who vacated the title to test his skills in the UFC.
“I honestly think that this is a great matchup between Poppies and I. We both like to stand and bang and we are going to try to knock each other out,” said McKenzie.

In the main event UFC veteran James Irvin of Sacramento, Calif. takes on battle-tested Jorge Oliveira of San Francisco, Calif. Irvin (15-7) snapped 3-fight skid recently with a knockout of Angel DeAnda. Meanwhile, Oliveira (4-2-1) will be fighting for the first time in over two years.

The co-main event features a Tachi Palace Fights championship showdown, as current featherweight champ Isaac DeJesus (9-2) of Stockton, Calif. defends his title against Coconut Creek, Fla.’s Micah Miller (15-4).

The 10-bout card also features Brazil flyweight Jussier da Silva (7-0) against San Diego, Calif.’s Danny Martinez (13-3). Da Silva is widely regarded as the world’s top 125 pounder and will put that to the test against Martinez, who makes his drop to 125 pounds after a successful run at bantamweight.

The Tachi Palace Fights vacant welterweight title will also be on the line, as Merced, Calif.’s Phil Collins (9-5) takes a huge step up in competition against Las Vegas, Nev.’s John Alessio (30-13).

-Bakersfield, Calif. bantamweight Tommy Vargas (6-1) vs. Yuma, Ariz.’s Chance Farrar (8-3).

-Lemoore, Calif. featherweight Sergio Quinones (5-6) vs. Santa Rosa, Calif.’s Any Miranda (4-1).

-Fresno, Calif. heavyweight Mike Guidry (2-2) vs. San Luis Obispo, Calif.’s Jesse Wallace (4-1).

-San Francisco, Calif. light heavyweight Chris Bostick (6-2) vs. Las Vegas, Nik Fekete (3-0).
