Ibbotson-Okoth Rematch Headlines Explosive Fight Night At Hull’s KC Stadium On 30th Oct

The fireworks come early to Hull this year as promoter, and former WBF Super Featherweight World Champion, Carl Greaves brings an explosive night of Boxing action, featuring many of Hull’s best pugilists, to the KC Stadium on Saturday 30th October.

Top of the bill will feature the long overdue rematch between John ‘The Steel City Assassin’ Ibbotson against Battersea’s Nick ‘The Ox’ Okoth. When the pair first met, back in February 2005, it was a full on six round war. When the dust settled Ibbotson was declared the winner by a 59-57 points margin.

Okoth though has longed for revenge and probably feels his recent experience of making it to the final of the highly successful Matchroom Sports promoted Prizefighter – The Cruiserweights II could make all the difference.

Back in April Okoth made the semifinal as a replacement for Herbie Hide, who had been cut by an accidental clash of heads in the first round, where he took on and beat Irish warlord Darren Corbett. He then faced, and lost to, the undefeated Jon Lewis Dickinson in a tough and brutal final.

The main support for the Ibbotson-Okoth rematch will see Hull’s very own big banger Dean O’Loughlin take on Polish hard man Michal Skierniewski in a six round Heavyweight contest.

O’Loughlin will be looking to get back to winning ways. In his last outing at The KC Stadium, back in December last year, O’Laughlin was stopped in the fifth by Shane McPhilbin with a cracking left to the head. Likewise Skierniewski also lost to Prizefighter – The Heavyweights IV Semi Finalist McPhilbin, by a fourth round stoppage in May ‘09.

Heading up the support card for the main attractions is Heworth, Yorkshire’s feisty Welterweight Matt Doyle, who will be looking to extend his 4 fight unbeaten run against veteran scrapper Jason Nesbitt.

Also looking to extend his unbeaten record is Hull’s very own Samir Mouneimne, who will be facing Southampton’s Peter Barney in a four round Featherweight contest.

In his last fight at the KC Stadium Mouneimne conclusively dispatched Anthony Hanna, after just 1 minute 50 seconds of the second round, sending him to the canvas with a sensational heavy right to the head.

Another local fighter, Light Middleweight Richard Troupe, will be looking to turn his 0-1-1 record around against Lincoln’s Rick Boulter.

Whilst Hull’s Bob Urry will be looking for his first win, following his debut draw against Nuneaton’s highly experienced slugger Kristian Laight, when he takes on the highly experienced East Ham, London, scrapper Johnny Greaves in a four round Light Welterweight bout.

The show also includes the professional debut of Aaron Taylor who is set to face a stern test against the experienced Nottingham fighter Mark Lewis in a four round Cruiserweight contest.

Perez to Face Herrera on Judah-Matthysse Undercard November 6!

Newark, NJ (October 18, 2010) – Undefeated lightweight prospect Michael Angelo “The Artist” Perez will step up in competition when he takes on battle tested veteran Hevinson Herrera November 6 at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.

At 14-6-1 (9 KO’s), Herrera is the most experienced foe of Perez’ young career. Each of Florida based Colombian’s losses came against world class fighters in Ricardo Cordoba, Edner Cherry, Cyril Thomas, Luis Cruz, Zolani Marali and Jose Arboleda. Herrera also fought to a draw with future two time world title challenger Feider Viloria.

Perez, a 2008 National Golden Gloves Champion, has dominated since entering the professional ranks as a high school senior in October 2008. The Newark native is 9-0 with 4 wins by KO and won virtually all 30 of the professional rounds he’s boxed thus far. In his most recent bout on July 17, Perez stopped Jorge Ruiz in 2 minutes and 29 seconds.

Although he will enter the squared circle with an opponent that has fought 79 more rounds than him and battled the superior opposition, Perez is ready to put on a show in front of his hometown fans.

“I’m excited for the fight,” said Perez, who compiled an outstanding 112-10 amateur record. “Herrera has a lot of experience and I am expecting a good fight. I’ve had a great training camp and I’m ready to step up, so the fans can expect fireworks on November 6!”

The six round showdown between Perez and Herrera will take place prior to an HBO “Boxing After Dark” doubleheader featuring former two division world champion Zab Judah against unbeaten power puncher Lucas Matthysse and Robert Guerrero versus Vicente Escobedo.

Tulsa product looking to improve on smashing performance at MFC 27

David Heath hit the daily double at his last MFC outing.

He hit the finish line against Solomon Hutcherson with a win in his pocket and the bonus of capturing the Knockout of the Night at MFC 26 with a highlight-reel stoppage from a picture-perfect left-handed Superman punch that brought a sold-out crowd to its feet in a heartbeat.

Yet Heath expects more from himself. Although he looked sensational at the end of the bout, Heath remains critical of the performance.

“I feel really poorly about how I performed against Solomon in a couple of areas and I can’t wait to wipe that egg off my face,” recalled Heath (16-6). “I’m a bit embarrassed about part of it and some poor bastard is going to have to pay.”

Lined up to be Heath’s intended target is Glover Teixeira (10-2) and the two will get down to business at MFC 27: Breaking Point on Friday, November 12 at the River Cree Resort and Casino, just outside Edmonton, Alberta. The bout will be one of the featured matchups on the main card airing live on HDNet Fights.

Already one of the MFC’s fan favorites, Heath further endeared himself to the already-partial crowd with offensive flare (including a spinning backfist) and the massive shot that ended Hutcherson’s night in bloody and bruised fashion. The Superman punch finish was a thing of beauty and a sure-fire contender for the MFC’s 2010 Knockout of the Year. Now Heath will have a chance to follow up that performance and put a wrap on a terrific campaign when he meets Teixeira at MFC 27.

The sold-out crowd will be anticipating another stylish show from Heath, and the Tulsa, Oklahoma, product is just as eager to give it to them.

“I just like to fight and I think I’m pretty good at it so I’m going to have fun and put on a show for the people who pay me to do it – the fans,” said Heath. “I’ll start looking for the knockout but I’ll take a submission or hope for a decision in an all-out war if that’s what it takes. I would like another trophy though.”

Heath can certainly expect a war from the Brazilian Teixeira, a reputed striker who boasts eight knockouts among his 10 career victories. But Heath’s enthusiasm for the sport and drive to succeed has reimmerged over the past year and the opportunity to get into a toe-to-toe battle is right up his alley.

“I do think it will be a mostly stand-up fight but I’ve learned that you have to be prepared for anything and everything,” noted Heath, who is riding a run of five wins in his last six fights into the showdown with Teixeira.

Case in point was Heath’s clash at MFC 20 against former light heavyweight champ Roger Hollett – another renowned heavy hitter yet Heath used his savvy skills to secure a quick first-round submission. Heath also expected a more diverse matchup against jiu-jitsu practitioner Mike Nickels at MFC 22 but it turned out to be a stand-and-strike war that ultimately earned both fighters a share of the MFC’s 2009 Fight of the Year.

Heath found his stride against Hutcherson and seemed ready to take on anyone willing to step up in the MFC’s middleweight ranks. Yet one fight later it’s back to the light heavyweight division.

“The reason I made the move to 185 was to gain more favorable matchups in regards to size and strength,” reflected Heath, who recently signed a new, three-fight exclusive contract with the Maximum Fighting Championship.

“Glover is listed as being under six feet and doesn’t look to be huge. Also I’ve watched video on him and I believe his style to be favorable for me so really it wasn’t a hard decision at all. I will weigh the same come fight time as I would if I were fighting at 185 anyway so I feel great about it. I love the matchup.”

With a win over Hutcherson in the bank at middleweight, and the possibility of victory on the horizon against Teixeira at light heavyweight, Heath could be on the verge on writing his own ticket towards one of two title shots.

“I think I could compete in both weight classes but I honestly I think I need to focus on the 185 belt,” noted Heath. “I think I’m pretty close to getting a title shot and I want to focus on defending it once I win it … which I will.”

Everyone is encouraged to dress up for Halloween. There will be prizes for the top three costumes.

The show will include amateur boxers that are part of our Monthly Boxing Series. The show will include JO, Novice, Senior and Master bouts. There will be male and female bouts.

ANTONIO TARVER WINS HEAVYWEIGHT DEBUT WITH UNANIMOUS DECISION OVER NAGY AGUILERA

MIAMI, Okla. (Oct. 16, 2010) – It may not have been an artistic success, but comebacking former light heavyweight world champion Antonio Tarver accomplished what he set out to do Friday in the main event on ShoBox: The New Generation on SHOWTIME®:

The “Magic Man’’ won his debut as a heavyweight. Making his first start in 17 months, Tarver (28-6, 19 KOs) of Tampa, Fla., clearly outclassed Dominican Nagy Aguilera (16-5, 11 KOs) of Newburgh, N.Y., winning a unanimous 10-round decision by the score of 98-92 three times. There were no knockdowns.

In the co-feature at Buffalo Run Casino, unbeaten Shawn Porter (17-0, 13 KOs) of Cleveland, Ohio, captured the vacant North American Boxing Federation (NABF) welterweight belt with an impressive, bloody ninth-round TKO over Hector Munoz (18-4-1, 11 KOs) of Albuquerque, N.M., in a match that some felt should have been stopped earlier.

Southpaw Tarver, who turns 42 on Nov. 21, was pleased with his performance even though he appeared to injure his left shoulder in the third or fourth round.

“I feel I looked great,’’ he said. “There was no ring rust. I didn’t get hit much. I didn’t get hurt. I’ll get the shoulder diagnosed, but it didn’t affect me. I wasn’t going to let it affect me. I did what I had to do and stuck to my game plan. I’m back and I’m here to stay. I’m a heavyweight now. The magic still lives.’’

Tarver’s goal, of course, is to become only the fourth 175-pound titleholder in history to become a heavyweight world champion. The others were Michael Spinks (1985), Michael Moorer (1992) and Roy Jones Jr. (2003).

“There is still work to do,’’ Tarver said. “Aguilera was a good trial horse for me. He surprised me because he stayed on his bicycle so much. But I’ll be back in the gym. I’ve got to power up. I thought I caught him with some good shots. No one (in the heavyweight division) is going to outbox me.’’

Tarver will return to SHOWTIME as an expert analyst for the next ShoBox telecast on Friday, Nov. 5.

A 2008 United States Olympic Games alternate, the promising Porter dominated the courageous, aggressive-minded Munoz from the outset. Making his fourth start on ShoBox in 10 months and first at 147 pounds, Porter, 22, won every round before Munoz’ cornermen finally halted the one-sided proceedings at 2:05.

“The fight went exactly as I expected,’’ said Porter, a poised, versatile boxer-puncher who throws power punches in bunches from all angles with both hands. “He came forward all the time and never stopped trying. I was surprised at how long they let the fight go on, but I knew I had to stay focused.’’

Munoz was bleeding profusely from cuts on the sides of his head (from unintentional headbutts) and his left eye.

“I wanted to draw him forward to get him close, but I never could,’’ Munoz said. “He is not a devastating puncher. He never hurt me or had me shook up. But the cuts were too much to overcome.’’

On Saturday, Nov. 27, Super Six World Boxing Classic fans will get a chance to see WBA champion and tournament-point leader Andre Ward headline live (9 p.m. ET/PT) when he defends against Sakio “The Scorpion” Bika (28-4-2, 19 KOs) in the second-half of a doubleheader. Prior to the Ward-Bika world title fight in Oakland, “King” Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KOs) will meet Carl “The Cobra” Froch 26-1, 20 KOs) in a pivotal Super Six Group Stage 3 bout for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) title. The Abraham-Froch scrap will air on same-day delay from the Hartwall Areena in Helsinki.

“BANTAMWEIGHT TOURNAMENT: WINNER TAKES ALL” begins Saturday, Dec. 11, live at 9 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast) at Irapuato, Mexico. In opening round matchups in the two-round, single-elimination tournament, undefeated International Boxing Federation (IBF) champion Yonnhy Perez (20-0-1, 14 KOs) defends against the boxer he dethroned, Joseph Agbeko (27-2, 22 KOs), and Vic Darchinyan (35-2-1, 27 KOs) faces rising star Abner Mares (20-0-1, 13 KOs).

On Saturday, Dec. 18, in Quebec, Canada City, legendary future Hall of Famer Bernard Hopkins (51-5-1, 32 KOs) will challenge defending champion and local favorite Jean Pascal (26-1, 16 KOs) for the WBC light heavyweight title live at 10 p.m. ET.
