A Portion of “Shark Fights 13: Jardine vs. Prangley” Pay-Per-View Sales to be Donated to Freedom Alliance

Amarillo, Texas, September 8, 2010 -Shark Fight Promotions, staying faithful to the company’s philanthropic values, is partnering with Freedom Alliance for their September 11 event, “Shark Fights 13: Jardine vs. Prangley.” Freedom Alliance is a 501(c)(3), educational and charitable organization, which sponsors numerous programs and activities aimed at supporting and honoring service members and their families.

In honor of the men and women who serve the United States in the armed forces, Shark Fight Promotions chose to donate a portion of the pay-per-view sales to Freedom Alliance’s Scholarship Fund. The fund is dedicated to the children of Americans who have lost their lives or have become permanently disabled while defending the country through their military service. Thousands of soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and guardsmen have been killed or disabled in the War on Terror; the fund aids the children of these brave men and women by providing them with scholarships to attend college.

Retired Marine Corps Lt. Col. Oliver North founded Freedom Alliance in 1990; the scholarship fund was created to remind the children that their parents’ sacrifices would never be forgotten. The organization has awarded more than $3 million in scholarships to the sons and daughters of the American heroes who have lost their lives or been permanently disabled in an operational mission or a training accident.

Audley vows to give David Haye “the fight of his life” in Manchester on November 13

Prizefighter Heavyweights III champion Audley Harrison will face David Haye for the WBA World Heavyweight title in Manchester in November 13, live on Sky Box Office.

Harrison has always claimed it was his destiny to win the World Heavyweight title and in a tense press conference in central London, he warned his former friend Haye that he is in for “the fight of his life” when he defends his title for the second time at the M.E.N Arena.

Haye called the contest the “biggest fight the UK has seen in years” and it marks a return to the venue where he defeated John Ruiz in his first defence in April, but Harrison believes that his epic journey in the sport is ready to peak with a World title victory.

“I’m ecstatic I’m getting a shot at the Heavyweight title and I’m doubly ecstatic that it’s against David Haye – a guy that I groomed when I was 29 and Olympic gold medallist and he was just 19,” said Harrison. “People are saying this is the David Haye show, it’s not – this is the Audley Harrison show, it is part of my journey and I’m knocking out a man who I laid down the red carpet to when he was coming through. This is my time – I’ve been down to the bottom of the pit but now I’m right back at the top and ready to take my chance.”

There is no love lost between the two fighters with Harrison reminding Haye throughout the press conference of the help he gave the Bermondsey boxer when his career was in its infancy, but his fellow London-born challenger told the press that while there will be plenty of trash-talk traded in the build-up to November’s showdown, he will back up his words with everything he has got in Manchester.

“I don’t talk just for the sake of talking – I will be there every second and every minute of every round and he is in for the fight of his life,” said the 38 year-old – now based in Las Vegas. “People were saying I was delusional when I said I would fight David Haye for the World title, and they said it again after I won Prizefighter – but look here today, I am fighting him for the World title and I will win.”

Harrison’s last fight saw him knockout Michael Sprott with a devastating left hook in the last round of their European title fight in April and he identified that shot as the one that he will use to wrestle the belt from Haye, just over one year after the World Champion took it away from Nikolai Valuev in Germany.

“When I land that left on him, it’s done – I’m don’t think he has a weak chin, I know he has a weak chin and so does everyone else. He hasn’t fought a real Heavyweight with a punch – when I started out the so-called experts were saying I was a “powder-puff puncher”, now all of a sudden they’re saying “Audley’s got a puncher’s chance.” I’ve always been able to punch, I’ve got 20 KO’s in 27 wins but this isn’t just about fighting though, it’s also about game plans and skills. I believe I’m a complete professional but I don’t think David is. He’s a good fighter and puncher but he’s got lots of mistakes.”

Takedown Radio Talks To “Big” John McCarthy

He has hundreds of fights as the premier in cage official for the UFC and other organizations around the world. He’s taught many of the top officials that have followed him through the steel doors in to the Octagon. He’s helped to write the rules that have allowed MMA to gain traction in many states around the country. If there was a list of MMA heroes Big John McCarthy’s name would be toward the top.

Keegan Mueller Joins Bulldog Wrestling Staff

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel Wrestling
program welcomes Keegan Mueller as a graduate assistant to the coaching staff for the 2010-2011 season.

“We are very pleased to welcome Keegan to our staff,” said Head Coach Rob Hjerling. “He is going to be working with our middle and heavy weight guys. He will also be a big boost for recruiting. At North Carolina, he had a very good career and brings a lot of great experience as he comes into pursue his master’s degree here at The Citadel.”

Mueller was a two-time all-conference selection at North Carolina, where graduated in 2009. He won the ACC title in 2009 and served as the team captain for the Tar Heels in both his junior and senior seasons. In addition, he received the 2007-2008 Athletic Director’s Scholar-Athlete Award at UNC.

The Dallas, Texas native has also spent time working at Fortune Magazine and working as a District Sales Manager for Automatic Data Processing Magazine.

Keegan is currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration in The Citadel Graduate College and resides in West Ashley.

Viking’s Head Coach Ben Stehura Talks of CSUB’s Incoming Freshman!

Cleveland State’s Head Coach Ben Stehura and his staff have had an incredible off season signing seven wrestlers to National Letters of Intent to join the program for the 2010-11 season, adding depth to a young, but experienced team for the upcoming year.

“We are very excited about the talent coming in with this recruiting class, both on the mat and off,” head coach Ben Stehura said. “All of them will fit in very well with our program and they will be able to contribute to their respective weight classes right from the start. We were hoping to fill in some gaps that we had on our roster for next season and we believe this group coming in will do just that.”

Joining the team will be Ben Willeford (Baton Rouge, La./St. Michael the Archangel) BJ Miller (Defiance, Ohio/Defiance), Nick Flannery (Framingham, Mass./Framingham), Alex Lopez (Hamler, Ohio/Patrick Henry), Tyler Green (Washington, W. Va./Parkersburg South), Brandon Sommers (Macedonia, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) and Matt Donohoe (Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsboro).

All seven student-athletes will enter CSU as freshmen and will have four years of eligibility.

125:
Willeford was a three-time state champion, winning consecutive titles as a sophomore, junior and senior at St. Michael the Archangel. He had a career record of 192-17, with 147 pins, which broke the Louisiana all-time pin record (126). As a junior he placed fifth at the Junior National Creco Roman Championships and finished sixth at the NHSCA Senior National Championships following his high school career.

Miller, who went undefeated as a senior, 54-0, captured his first Division II Ohio State Championship at 112 pounds during his final season at Defiance High. He made appearances at the state tournament all four years of his high school career and is Defiance’s first four-time WBL champion. He had a career record of 175-18.

133:
Flannery, a three-time all-state champion, joins the Vikings after a high school campaign that included a record of 153-23, with 88 wins coming by pin. As a senior he was named the MVP of the all-state tournament and won the New England Championships before placing fourth at the NHSCA Senior National Championships.

Lopez was a three-time Ohio State place winner, and compiled a record of 174-14, with 68 wins coming by pin. As a senior he went undefeated until his semifinal match at the state tournament and ended up with a sixth place finish. He also finished second as a junior and seventh as a freshman at the state tournament.

141:
Green, who was a two-time state champion was also part of two state championship teams as a junior and senior at Parkersburg South High. After posting a career record of 153-27 with 70 pins, Green was honored with the Dave Shultz Excellence Award for the state of West Virginia following his high school campaign, which is given out to only one wrestler from each state.

149:
Sommers, who placed fifth at the state tournament as a sophomore and senior and sixth as a junior, joins CSU after compiling a career record of 135-42.

157:
Donohoe capped off his high school campaign with an all-state championship title as a senior at 152 pounds and a runner-up finish at the New England Championships, while going 46-3 over the season. He has a career record of 160-27 and placed second at the all-state tournament as a junior and third as a freshman and sophomore.
