McCreedy-Griffin Headlines Friday Night’s “Autumn Classic” at Twin River

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Nov. 18, 2009) – Twenty months since her last fight and eight after she became a mother for the first time, 4-time world champion Jaime “The Hurricane” Clampitt starts her comeback Friday night in “Autumn Classic,” presented by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc. (CES), at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, R.I.

New England and EBA super middleweight champion, “Irish” Joey McCreedy (11-3-1, 6 KOs) takes on “The Next Great Champ” winner, Otis “Triple OG” Griffin (20-6-2, 8 KOs), in the 8-round, non-title main event on the Irish-themed pro boxing card.

Clampitt (19-4-1, 7 KOs) won a 10-round decision March 14, 2008 at Twin River against Belinda Laracuente for the IWBF lightweight title. This past March 17 on St. Patrick’s Day – appropriately enough considering this show’s Irish theme – Jaime gave birth to her daughter, Neyla.

“I just felt so good after having my baby,” Clampitt explained when asked why she’s returning to the ring. “I missed the sport. So many people were saying I couldn’t or shouldn’t box again, but I’ve always liked challenges. Things are different today. So many women athletes have children.”

Clampitt, a Canadian native who lives in Warwick (RI), has run a boxing program for the past two years at a gym in East Greenwich (RI) called Battle Ground. She has about 40 clients and still trains a few amateur boxers. But she won’t be encouraging her daughter to become a boxer in the future. “It’s a tough sport,” Jaime said with a smile. “I don’t want her to fight. We’ll have plenty of things to do together, but, whatever she chooses, I will support her.”

Clampitt faces WBAN No. 3 rated Rachel Clark (4-2-1, 3 KOs) in the 6-round, junior welterweight co-feature.

Unbeaten junior welterweight prospect and 2008 U.S. Olympic Team alternate, Danny O’Connor (9-0, 3 KOs), of Framingham (MA), faces dangerous James Hope (4-2, 4 KOs) in the 6-round special attraction.

Also fighting on the undercard in 4-round bouts are Providence super middleweight Vladine Biosse (4-0, 3 KOs), a former University of Rhode Island football player, against 24-fight veteran Jeffrey Osbourne; Long Island (NY) light heavyweight Joe “The Irish Bomber” Smith Jr. (1-0, 1 KO), the 2008 New York Golden Gloves champion, meets pro-debuting Brandon McGowen; Worcester (MA) heavyweight Rashad Minor (2-1, 2 KOs) squares-off against Lance Gauch (1-1, 1 KO); Boston light heavyweight Maceo Crowder, whose brother is 2008 U.S. Olympian Demetrius Andrade, makes his pro debut versus Duane King in his pro debut.

PRIZEFIGHTERS’ DESTINY IN MAYWEATHER’S HANDS

BOXING legend Floyd Mayweather will perform the draw for Prizefighter Light-Welterweights.

Mayweather, widely regarded as the greatest fighter on the planet and the World pound for pound Champion, will be shown on Friday making the draw for the next Prizefighter event.

He will become another boxing legend to become involved in Prizefighter after Mike Tyson, Ricky Hatton and Chris Eubank, who have all performed draws in the past.

No boxers will be seeded for the draw so anyone could face anyone. It could lead to a number of mouth-watering fights as the competitors include some of the biggest British names in the division.

Prizefighter Light-Welterweights takes place at the National Hall, Olympia, London on Friday, December 4 and the winner will collect £32,000.

This line-up is the strongest ever as former World Champion Gavin Rees is among the eight, as are Ted Bami, Colin Lynes and Jason Cook, who have all held European titles.

Former British Champions Young Muttley and David Barnes are also included, while undefeated youngster Michael Grant and highly-rated Barrie Jones complete a strong line-up.

MIGUEL ESPINO GETS TITLE SHOT! CHALLENGES KELLY PAVLIK FOR WBC AND WBO WORLD MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLES

For nearly ten years, WBC CABOFE Middleweight Champion and former Contender alum Miguel Espino (20-2-1, 9 KO’s) has been fighting for a better life for he and his family in hopes of being a World Champion one day. Well now, he finally has that opportunity as Espino will be challenging Kelly Pavlik for his WBC and WBO World Middleweight Championship titles on December 19, 2009 in Pavlik’s hometown of Youngstown, Ohio.

This has been a dream in the making for Espino who fights out of North Hollywood and is ranked # 3 by the WBC. Under the tutelage of long-time trainer and mentor John Bray, Espino is now one fight away from being World Middleweight Champion; something that both Miguel and John knew could happen if he stayed focused and worked hard. Both have dealt with many obstacles in their lives; Espino caring for his legally blind mother and younger sister and Bray coming back from a near fatal stroke to becoming a world-class trainer and recent California Boxing Hall of Fame Inductee.

Since his last controversial loss in 2004 at the hands of Peter Manferedo Jr. on the Contender television series, Espino has been able to put together eleven wins in a row. His last win came in an impressive fashion over former World Light Middleweight Champion Alejandro “Terra” Garcia, who retired on his stool before the start of the sixth round. Although Espino hasn’t fought in eight months, he has been active in the gym training diligently with Bray. Asked about his pupil’s shot at the world title, Bray indicated that, “this is the opportunity that Miguel has been waiting for his whole life. Miguel knows that he has a tough fight ahead of him with Kelly Pavlik, but come December 19th he will put it all on the line in an attempt to become World Champ.”

When Espino was asked about how he felt at his opportunity for a title shot, he stated “I’ve been dreaming for this opportunity ever since I was kid and won my first trophy in the amateurs. Kerry Hope Steps in to Face Truax!

St. Paul, MN- What was to be a battle between a scorching prospect and a seasoned veteran is now an intriguing fight between two up and coming middleweights. Promoter Tony Grygelko of Seconds Out Promotions announced Kerry Hope has stepped in to face Caleb Truax Friday night at the St. Paul Armory, replacing former world champion Carl Daniels.

Hope, 12-2 (1 KO), hails from Newbridge, Wales and at 28, injects additional youth into an already exciting card. Hope has trained under world class trainer Enzo Calzaghe, piecing together eleven straight wins to kick off his career. Although suffering setbacks in two of his last three trips to the ring, Hope aims to put his career back on track with a win and pick up a title in the process.

While in pursuit of his first championship, Truax, 13-0 (9 KO’s), also aims to give back to the community that has embraced his dream. As part of his “Caleb’s Kids” movement Truax partnered with Cub Foods and various local churches to distribute Thanksgiving meals to a handful of needy families. “Caleb’s Kids” takes place on 5 pm Wednesday at Lyke’s Gym in Coon Rapids and is open to local media.

“I’m proud to be able to take part in an event that gives back to the community, and fight for my first title belt. Minnesota fans should be ready for a great night of fights”, said Truax in regards to the busy week ahead.

Truax and Hope will do battle over ten rounds in the main event of “The Golden Age” for the vacant WBF Intercontinental Middleweight title.

In the co-featured bout of the evening, hard hitting welterweight Muhammad “African Assassin” Kayongo of St. Paul returns following a one year absence to challenge James Todd of the United Kingdom. Kayongo, 14-2 (10 KO’s) and Todd, 2-1-1 (1 KO) are scheduled to do battle over 10 rounds for the WBF Intercontinental Welterweight title.

“This is going to be a barnburner” promoter Tony Grygelko said. “Todd was an elite amateur in the UK, a member of Team Calzaghe and now trains with Talon boxing. Regardless of what their records show, I expect this to be a highly competitive fight.”

Former amateur star Michael Faulk will take on Ryan Soft in a Jr. Middleweight bout, while Charles Meir matches up with Marvin Rodriguez.

In addition to championship boxing Derek Abrams takes on Gabe Walbridge in a three round bout, while Jedidiah Jones takes on Isaiah Matto in the MMA portion of the card. Former Augsburg wrestling star and current MMA prospect Marcus LeVesseur is also slated to appear vs TBA.

One of New York’s best athletes is undefeated boxer Dmitriy Salita from Brooklyn, NY. Dmitriy’s story is a great one; as he is an Orthodox Jewish athlete, who balances his strict religion with the rigorous demands of his sport.

Dmitriy is fighting Amir Khan for the Junior Welterweight Championship on Dec. 5th in Newcastle, England.

In addition to being a boxer, Dmitriy is also a community leader; as he gives back and works with teenagers in New York City and helps to teach them boxing and discipline in his free time.

Newark, NJ –Edmonds Promotions returns to the Garden State Friday December 4 to present an action packed 13 bout card at Essex County College.

Headlining the exciting night of boxing, which is also available worldwide via the internet on gofightlive.tv, is rising junior welterweight Jeremy “Hollywood” Bryan of nearby Paterson, NJ. Bryan, 12-0 (5 KO’s), had a decorated amateur career, winning the 2004 and 2005 National Golden Gloves, and 2004 U-19 tournament.

Bryan is opposed 34 fight veteran Richard Lee Hall of Rocky Mount, NC. Hall has faced a who’s who of opponents including former world champion Joachim Alcine, title contender Delvin Rodriguez, rising stars Mike Jones, Derek Ennis and Tim Coleman.

The Bryan-Hall bout is scheduled for 8 rounds.

The co-main event matches up unbeaten lightweight Antonio “The Tiger” Espinosa of West New York, NJ and Italian Import Floriano Pagliara. The slick Espinosa, 11-0 (1 KO), meets Floriano, 9-3 (6 KO’s), over six rounds.

WBC CABOFE champion Alex “Brick City Bullet” Perez, 10-0 (6 KO’s), returns to his hometown for the first time in two years to battle Philadelphia’s “Magnificent” Martinus Clay in a six round welterweight affair. Perez was a solid amateur and served as a sparring partner for Miguel Cotto. A renowned tough guy, Clay, 13-22-4 (5 KO’s), has battled top notch fighters James Kirkland, Mike Jones, and Andre Berto among many others.

In an intriguing six round junior middleweight bout, Joshua “Berlin Bomber” Snyder of Berlin, MD takes on Coconut Creek FL’s Jerome “Boomer Ellis”. Snyder, 8-3-1 (4 KO’s), and Ellis, 12-9-1 (10 KO’s), both have deceptive records, combining for seven victories over unbeaten fighters.

Notable locals slated to appear on the undercard include National Golden Gloves Champion Denis Douglin, Eddie Edmonds, Tyre Roberts, Angel Santos, Juan Rodriguez, Angel Corception, Joseliz Cepada and Delen Parsley.
